This is a new (as of 2015) hotel, just across the road from the railway station, so great for travellers. The rooms are pretty standard modern rooms, with a dark brown and forest green colour scheme, and big windows. My en-suite had a walk-in shower rather than a bath but was very clean. It was all decently equipped, with a very comfortable bed. One thing that slightly threw me is the reception is on the first floor, so the entrance is pretty innocuous. As it was a Friday night, there was a bouncer on duty on the door, which is slightly off-putting, but I guess necessary to prevent people misusing the lobby. Once inside, staff were friendly and check-in swift and easy. I got a very good rate (just over £50 including breakfast). The breakfast itself was fairly standard fare - the only oddity being that it is self-service but from a separate room, and it took a few seconds of hunting to find it (other guests looked even more puzzled). It's a pretty standard affair - plenty of choice, but all pre-cooked.

This hotel is operated by Hilton under the Hampton branding, it is accredited as a "three-star hotel", however, I found the hotel to be much worse than that mainly down to two reasons: breakfast and overall sleep quality, issues also arisen with the service mainly at breakfast and the lifts. The hotel is in a good location and is opposite the Railway Station, and it is within 5-10 minutes walk of the city centre if you just go down Grainger Street and pass the hotel towards Savers, in the same direction of passing Starbucks to your left and the hotel to your right. It also has decent access and black cabs and buses due to the railway station being located across the way, The best thing about this hotel was the location but for me this was also one of the worst factors as the amount of noise in my hotel room was incredible, this got to a stage where I spent the night sleepless, I didn't sleep at all, this was down to corridor noises, and noises coming from outside which included sirens, I did ring the hotel sleepily at 2-3am, they took a while to answer but told me there was nothing they could do, they also failed to apologize for this and me getting no sleep for it, when I mentioned it at the front-desk upon checking out which also shown really bad customer service, something which is normally uncommon for the Hilton brand in past experience. My lack of sleep was so bad, it also influenced my decision to return home early, hence having to buy new train tickets costing £40. I paid for the hotel in Hilton honors points, this hotel overall was quite cheap and came to 10,000 points and on average can go for £50-£70 per night, overall it is much cheaper and even in a better location compared to the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, where I actually stayed during my trip to Newcastle in the summer, as I recall my stay which cost 10,000 HH points here would have cost either 17,000 or 22,000 having stayed there. The breakfast was complimentary but also another bad thing about the experience for me, I came down at 6 am having had no sleep the night before and the area was silent, there was no staff or anyone to help me, such as get advice for gluten-free or order extras, I ended up having to go to reception and wait for a member of staff to come down, I understand breakfast is "complimentary to all guests" but still the quality should be so much better, and there should always be at least one member of staff on to greet customers. My main issue with the breakfast here was the choice, for example, it was limited and didn't include extras such as omelettes or either poached or fried eggs. The food I did have was quite poor quality, it was like second-class food due to the Hampton branding, which is a shame considering Hilton breakfasts, in general, are normally very good. To talk about some positives, the room was satisfactory, it was a little basic but did have all the facilities needed such as a bathroom, a wardrobe (which was hidden in the back of the bedroom), a desk and chair and of course a bed and television, one thing I liked is that they printed something to tell you what channel was what number on the TV, and also the inclusion of green in the decor and the painting of a Newcastle landmark, the Tyne bridge in the room. My third issue with the hotel was the size of the lifts, they were far too small and narrow to the point you'd struggle to fit even more than three people in, even wheelchairs are a struggle to get in the lift or prams which is annoying and poor, and of course it can be hard and inconvenient to use the key swipe to activate the lift, of course, this is understandable for security reasons and sadly unlike many other Hilton hotels, such as the Newcastle Gateshead which is the nearest other Hilton (just under 2 miles from here.) If it wasn't for Raheem Sterling bagging a winner for Manchester City to defeat Newcastle United 1-0, my whole trip here would have been a disaster, with this, of course, being the main reason of my short trip to Newcastle, which was my second visit to the city in 2017. I did end up ordering food at the hotel, they do not do room-service I was told, instead I had to go down to the bar on the second floor which is also where reception is and where Breakfast is served, I ended up ordering a Gluten-Free Ham and Cheese toastie, the overall quality of this wasn't great because it was slightly overloaded with cheese and the ham tasted rubbery, it came with mediocre hash brown bites. When I first entered this hotel, despite some minor things I disliked such as the reception being on the second floor, and the size of the lifts, I was overall quite pleased, the hotel also has free wi-fi to anyone who stays here but as my stay got longer, especially from the evening onwards the horrors in my nights sleep, breakfast and service really shown which aren't the Hilton standard, so with regret I feel this hotel deserves a single one-star in another 5000 character review by myself

Modern bedroom, spotless, free wifi and great service. All steps away from Central Station!

The bathroom was sweet with a lovely shower; but, I did miss having body lotion. Frankly, with an amazing Spa in the hotel, I think more luxury products would be given to entice guests to the Spa. This hotel would get FIVE STARS if not for a few mistakes, that can only be chalked up to mediocre hotel management, excluding their elevator that makes a horrible noise as if it's going to detach and plunge me to my death (please fix that). First of all, there is no access to ice machines, or ice bucket in your room. You must visit the bar for both. You could probably call it up, but that is always a hassle. People at the bar seem like they're forced to be nice to you, but if could have been a bad day. I'd stay at this hotel again and again. I highly recommend it, if not for the tiny fixes to make it a FIVE STAR. The towel warming rack in the bathroom is a nice touch. Please fix the elevator. Lastly, the worst trait of this hotel is the waiter staff during breakfast in the restaurant. My girlfriend and I waited so long for our coffee, tea, and toast that it had to be reordered. Suddenly the reorder comes to our table with black tea instead of green tea. Within seconds later, after a half hour of waiting our original order comes. The waitress is completely confused. In this time, we already ate the self-serve part of our breakfast. Completely and utterly ruined. Still, I would return.

There are loads of bars and restaurants nearby, and it's a 15 minute walk to the city centre (there is also a Quayside electric bus which takes you to the centre, or you can take a taxi from outside the hotel). Now on to the interior...I just love it! It's dark and sensual with a lot of purples. The rooms are spacious, and the suites are fantastic: luxurious comfort is how I would describe it. And those beds?! Amazing night's sleep. My husband is American and it's traditional to host a Rehearsal Dinner before your wedding. We held this is a private dining area in the brasserie and from all the planning to the actual event, I could not have had better service. The food is all made on site by the chef and his/her team, and it was delicious. The spa is really adorable, and a lovely place to come and relax. We had a couple's massage. The staff were extremely professional and I loved chilling out in the relaxation room. 5/5 for everything about this place. We had such a great experience from start to finish.

If you're interested in a Newcastle stay, this hotel will place you in the middle of the action. Situated at the end (beginning?) of Grey Street, you will be only a quick walk from the coach station and near wonderful shops, restaurants, and general action. I actually never made it to the hotel's restaurant, as I was too tempted by what I could see from my window. The rooms' decor is also quite charming, and in keeping with the Georgian sensibilities of the building itself. High ceilings, ensuites, deliciously-comfortable linens and impeccable standards for cleanliness round out the equation. As an added bonus, the in-room radio was delightful. I think it was BBC4 that aired an hour or so of very sweet alternative folk rock with some nice liner notes. Yet another reason to curse Clear Channel for buying up all of our US airways.

The WiFi here is complimentary, but it's also very spotty, and it goes on and off on a whim. I actually had to go into the hallway to get the internet connection. Nonetheless, the experience was one of the better experiences, as the room was super clean, the service from the concierge was extremely friendly, and the free cookies and tea on the daily made the experience even more at home. What I did like the most was the mini-fridge and the microwave that's in the closet unit, that made life a lot easier when one were to take leftovers from meals down the street from the Sainsbury back to the room. Make sure that you choose a room closer to the elevator if you want good WiFi connection, but if you're like me who like to have peace and quiet, the corner room is also truly amazing for a peaceful night's sleep. The hotel is within walking distance to all the main attractions, and the Durham Castle was just a few 15minutes away on a train ride from the Central Station. I would highly suggest taking a trip while you're in Newcastle. I also spent a full day walking around and going to the Baltic Museum, the Millennium Bridge, among other attractions, and all were within walking distance. Overall experience: A-

**June 2022: Weekend Visit**…read more The Hotel Indigo is a spectacular hotel. The room itself is extremely stylish and modern and I had a comfortable stay. Pros *The bed was the perfect firmness, and the blanket was a down one - so super comfortable! *I loved the shower! The water pressure is robust and the hot water is pippin hot. Additionally they have two shower heads - a traditional side one that detaches and you can direct the water, and a waterfall head, which was heavenly! They also provide both shampoo, conditioner, and bodywash, and there's a speaker in the bathroom so if you're listening to the tv you can hear everything loud and clear. *Breakfast was devine. Guest's need to make reservations in advance and it's booked in 30 minute increments. During my stay the 8:30 time slot was full, but I was able to get a 8am one. There's a cold bar with meats, cheese, bread, fruit, and a yogurt/granola station. For beverages they had juice and smoothies! I was already impressed with the buffet and didn't know that guests could also order hot items a la cart. I decided on eggs benedict and it was just what I need to fuel me up for the day! *Pretty good range of channels for the tv, but and I'm not sure if this is region specific not I didn't see a travel channel, but they did have the food channel! Cons *You need to bring your key everywhere because there are sections of the building and elevator where you need to scan it to access other areas. This was very foreign to me so I looked really dumb not understanding what so many sections of the building looked locked. Additionally, I got lost several times. It's not a traditional long hallway, but instead many different sections - so if you're directionally challenged this might be difficult *At least in my room there were a couple of lights that couldn't turn on or I couldn't figure out how to turn it on, and there's no light to shine on the whole room, only small lights for certain sections, but not the main sleeping area. Summary Overall, I really enjoyed my stay but a couple of things were annoyances so unfortunately, I couldn't give it a perfect score. Nevertheless, I had the most glorious showers here.

Also took a jog along the Tyne...there is a boardwalk/ pathway for bikes/ walking/ jogging. Also, there is a spa and fitness center within the hotel...I didn't visit it, but the hotel has one. The fitness center closes relatively early (9PM)... wish it would have stayed open later or 24 hr. The restaurant is decent, full bar, wide variety of breakfast items. 24 hour room service. My room overlooked the river, great view (I booked a room under 'River view', they had other types of rooms to choose from). The room was clean, spacious. On the last day, I checked out early and they were able to store my luggage all day while I trekked around Newcastle. Ride to the airport cost approx £10. I had one dinner here in their Hawthorne restaurant, and it was one of the best meals I think I've had in a hotel! To start with I had rabbit popcorn which was well seasoned, moist and extremely tasty and for my first try of rabbit, I was impressed! For mains I had a venison burger with chips. The venison burger was literally one of the best I have ever had! I asked for it to be cooked medium and it was cooked too perfection! Not too red but juicy and crumbly - utterly delicious!
