Friendly and very helpful staff. I'm sure these guys get asked lots of questions on fire arms, which I'm sure it annoying when you have so many people walking in just looking. Frank helped me find what I was looking for. They just do happened to not have the holster I was looking for. Frank passed on information about where I could find a holster for my gun. He then helped me carry my purchases out to my car. Stellar customer service. Only issues I have is they don't carry a wide variety of ammo and guns. They are willing to order pretty much anything you want. This store is awesome. Will be taking my business here vs any gun store in town. read more

I went there today with a couple friends. As a first timer you have to watch an 8-minute "orientation". The staff was friendly and happy to help--I'm a Saudi guy at gun range in Indiana!! There's a good range of pistols. As far as prices go, for half an hour $10 for the gun, $10 for the lane, $16.99 for 50 round, and a dollar for earmuffs. Take others' glowing impressions of Applied Ballistics with a grain of salt because it is certainly not the best gun range, and in fact, I think it's quite poor. Many of those who gave positive reviews here were first-time shooters, who haven't had any experiences in an indoor range other than Applied Ballistics. However, I personally have been to other indoor ranges in my life, and especially after having been to Top Guns in Terre Haute, I know what a top-quality indoor range is like, and this one certainly is not even close. Service Depending on who is manning the front counter, service is either excellent and friendly, or downright rude and frustrating. As another user has said, the older gentleman is quite rude and speaks with a terse tone, almost as if he is annoyed at having to deal with a customer. It's hard to walk into this place without feeling like I'm going to be judged simply for being a customer. The other employees, however, do a good job and are a pleasure to speak with. It's also worth noting that there aren't really any active range safety officers here, judging from the few times I've been. Employees can view the range from behind their desk through some glass windows, but if an incident were to occur, they would not be able to quickly respond, and it's even possible that they might miss it unfolding entirely. When you shoot here, make sure to keep an eye on the other shooters as well and make sure they're not in trouble or doing anything unsafe. You have to be your own range safety officer, in essence. Quality Employees will occasionally mutter under their breath while completing a transaction, since the computer they use is very slow, barely functional, and evidently is not being replaced (much like everything else in the range.) I imagine that is the owner's fault. Even worse, the equipment used to play the orientation video is in disrepair, and I had to sit for some time while the employees tried to correct the issues and start the video my first time there. Occasionally, some of the bays are out-of-service, either because they are poorly maintained or very old--or both. All of the equipment is visibly quite dated and hasn't been brought into the 21st century: The controls for the target tracks are simple electrical switches, unlike the digital touch screens installed into most modern ranges. Second, visibility is very poor and the range itself only has very dim lighting. These are forgivable transgressions, however, and I'm more upset at the inadequate ventilation. When multiple people are shooting, the air becomes quite thick with residue and it doesn't seem that the system can keep up very well. If there are only a few shooters, it's not a huge deal, but when the place is busy, it isn't pleasant, and in fact, may be dangerous due to an increased risk of lead exposure. I recommend against renting any firearms from Applied Ballistics--or if you do, ask them to clean it first. I overheard a customer complaining that his rental weapon kept malfunctioning, and when an employee field stripped it to check it out, it was absolutely caked in carbon and debris, as if it hadn't been cleaned in a year. Moreover, this range is one of those stingy places that doesn't allow you to collect your own or other shooters' brass. I have disdain for any location that prevents shooters from maximizing the value of the ammunition that the shooter paid for and owns. Many people are also not reloaders, and so it is to the advantage of those who do reload to collect non-reloaders' brass when the range isn't terribly busy. Of course, the owners seem to be such misers that they won't even allow you such a simple benefit. Conclusion This range is not a pleasant experience, and if you can find alternatives, go there instead. It survives commercially mainly because there is nowhere else to shoot, and if a competitor were to open a nicer indoor range with more competent, professional management, Applied Ballistics would be bankrupt within a year. TL;DR, if you have property you can shoot on, I recommend you shoot there instead of Applied Ballistics. Moreover, if you're willing to pay for a $100 annual membership (this is probably cheaper than paying for booth rentals at Applied Ballistics if you shoot regularly) you can apply to Linden Conservation Club near Romney, which is not very far away from Lafayette. It is an outdoor range, so most of the qualms listed above wouldn't even apply. There is, unfortunately, a dearth of places to shoot near Lafayette for us city dwellers. read more

Don't go here - horrible experience!!! The guy (in the video with white hair) was a jerk to my brother and fiance. No one in my family will ever visit this establishment if this is the way that they treat customers on a regular basis. Perhaps he was having a bad day but saying "if you just would have listened to what I said" is an example of poor customer service! The best shooting range I've ever been to. (Although, to be fair, it's also the only shooting range I've ever been to.) Took my wife here for her birthday. Neither of us is really 'into' guns, but we had some ammo left over from a firearm safety course we took a few weeks ago, and this seemed a fun way to use it up. The staff was friendly and very helpful, especially for a pair of novices like us. Also, the prices are reasonable. You can even rent a firearm if you don't have your own. My one complaint is that the range wasn't carpeted -- a somewhat more important concern than it may seem. First, carpeting would add just a little more sound dampening to the shooting rage, and every little bit helps. Second, the spent bullet casings were all over the floor; and on hard concrete, they roll, ping, and even slide around. Not a big concern, but something worth paying attention to. But let's face it, if you go to a gun range and your biggest concern is slipping on a stray shell, they're clearly doing something right! read more

We had a "blast" here on Valentine's Day. There were four of us and we had to rent everything from firearms to hearing protection, but it still was all very reasonably priced. The lady who worked the counter was very friendly and helpful. My only slight criticism would be the older guy who answers the phone was a bit abrupt to be interacting with the public. read more

By far one of the greatest times I ever had was at Applied Ballistics. I had never been to a shooting range but have shot hand guns before. Their orientation video required for first time visitors made me feel more comfortable with their rules and regulations. You can tell they demand safety first. Which is always a relief when being in a crowded room full of gun handlers. The prices were very fair and have everything you need right down to ear plugs and range targets. I will be back many times. The gentlemen behind the counter was extremely helpful and even joked with us for awhile. Made me feel important as a customer. read more

Tim and I were a little bored and need to do something so we started looking for a shooting range and the only place we found in the area was an indoor range. We found ABSI went inside and were greeted by a couple guys. The guy be hind the counter asked us if we had been there before and explained how they do things there, there is a short 10 minute video on there safety polices and procedures after we were finished with that we got two lanes for a half hour. This is a Indoor Range with 15 lanes, 5 rated for rifle calibers All guns must have ECI's (Empty Chamber Indicator) in them unless your firing them. They have fully automatic machine guns that you can rent and other guns and some guns for sell. As far as going downstairs to or lanes (rifle) it was pretty small not a lot of room to load your guns or set your guns. One of the lanes was closed because someone had shoot the motor that runs the targets out. We had all of out PPE on, I was shooting my AK-47 and Tim was shooting one of his hand guns. Every time we fired our guns the sound was way louder then it would have been if we were outside and the empty shells kept ricocheting off the wall and hitting me. We were just about done and then I let Tim shoot my AK and he hit the string that takes the target out hahaha, so we packed up went upstairs and told them what Tim had pulled off and they said no problem, and thanked us for telling them about it instead of just leaving like the guy that shot the motor did. We had offered to pay for the damage but they declined and were really nice about the whole ordeal. If your ever in this area and want to shot a gun this is the place to go! The Fully Automatic Machine Guns are about $50 to $100 an hour. Try it out it's fun! They are not open Mondays or Tuesdays. read more

So much brighter and cleaner than PopGuns in Indy, and with 15 lanes, there was no waiting for us on a Saturday afternoon! We rented their MP5 automatic and had a lot of fun with it. This will be the only honest review unlike the others. All these positive reviews are from people who A: never shot before or B: don't understand customer service and like to get ripped off. the employees are rude and not very friendly unless you've never shot before in that case they turn into willy wonka so they can get you for the most money. First the store was clean, nice selection on guns etc. you had to watch an orientation video if you were new there which was nice to keep people safe. Now here is where the screw you out of money. So its 10$ for a pistol for a half hour and 15$ for a rifle which doesn't make any sense. so you don't pay before you go in because then they wouldn't make money, they start a timer when you tell em what you want. so after the 5 min or so that it takes to go in and get set up to shoot and then you have to shoot, clean up, walk out of the range then go wait in line all before 30 min is up!! otherwise you get charged for an hour. and in the video they say they will set a timer and let you know when the 30 minutes is up which they don't they charged my friend 5$ to watch (because he was taking up space in the empty range) then they charge 2$ for hearing protection which they don't mention either. We told him in the beginning it was all going to be separate and the old man with white hair responded " you can figure it out at the end " when we finished shooting we looked around which adds to your time. The old guy didn't break our bill up instead he charged all 3 of us 20$ after the student discount which was supposed to be 25% but he only gave us 5$, my bill should have only been 13$ , 10$ for shooting my pistol then a 2$ fee for the target. when we tried to dispute the charges the old guy responded with all this over 5$? no its the principal that you're over charging people and its wrong, he said "you should know the rules not my fault" then walked away. How can we know the rules when the rules aren't posted anywhere? so please don't support this business they make all this money by taking advantage of people , its a tourist attraction it gives a bad names to other honest gun ranges. that place isn't for shooters, it for taking advantage of the college kids with a lot of money. read more

This place seemed to be nice when I first got there. Watched a 7min video on the rules, then went and shot. After we got done they have you pay. This is where the screw you. In the video they say they will set a timer, but they don't. They do that for themselves not the customer. So after you go over the time they can charge you more money. They charged us for someone who didn't shot because (they were taking up room). They were actually sitting on a stool out the way. When I asked about why I was charged so much the old man at the counter was extremely rude and didn't seem to want to deal with me and asked me "are you really doing this over $5". Which I found to be very rude, considering the fact they lied in video. So with that being said, I will never go back to this shooting range because they don't know what customer service is. They are not smart enough to implement some sort of a data base for members or people who have watched the safety video. I've seen the video 4 times now. The first time when I bought a membership and 3 more times with others I was shooting with. When I tried to go shoot I somehow managed to lose the business card they give you proving you have seen the video. So they were going to make me watch it for the 5th time. No thanks! I'll keep my money and I won't be back to the range or to purchase anything from the gun shop. They have also raided the rates and charge extra if there is more than 1 shooter per lane. read more

As for the guy that gave Applied Ballistics a bad rating, I disagree completely. I have been in every gun store from Gary to Indy and Applied Ballistics is no more expensive than any other store, and most of the time the prices are a lot more fair, or on scale with what the other stores are asking. They are the only indoor range that I am aware of, but again I disagree that they take advantage of this. I spent an hour and half on a range with my own ammo and my neighbor and they only charged us a total of $14.00. How much cheaper do you expect, I thought I was getting a great deal. As for other gun shops in town, there are pleanty, which leads me to believe that you havent done any research and aren't very knowledgable or credible to trash talk Applied Ballistics. I would recommend this place to any of my friends and am interested to see who else agrees with me. read more

I've been shooting here since they opened, and the range is significantly improved from the previous owners (Flat Creek I believe?). The range is well ventilated with a positive pressure system, and is kept very clean. The membership rates might seem a bit expensive at first, but if you shoot more than once a month it is way cheaper than any other range I have ever used. As well, with every membership you receive a set of discount coupons for classes, free gun rentals, and even a dealer discount firearm once per year. I saved about $100 last year using the dealer discount alone. So from my personal experience, the membership was a great deal and allowed me to shoot all year for about $50 if you factor in the discounts. read more

I stopped in to check the place out on a Friday afternoon. The guys at the counter greeted me with a friendly "hello" and showed me around the building. Clean restrooms and a classroom / breakroom in addition to the shooting lanes and retail area of the business. I ended up taking the 10 minute safety / orienterring class then rented a handgun with a red dot scope and sent 100 rounds down the lane. What a blast! I can see why people like coming here for service or assistance with their firearms or just to shoot but my guess is the majority of people coming here also like visiting with the other users. Exceptional facility! Friendly and knowledgable staff who make your safety and gun safety a first priority. If you have questions, they have answers. If you need gun smithing, they'll hook you up. If you're new, they'll help teach you. The only time I've seen any of the staff angry is when irresponsible people come in and act like complete jack***es on a gun range. My wife and I recently attended a "First Shooters" safety training class at AB. We were very happy with the information the instructor provided, and also with the range overall. The instructors were all very patient with us and with the other people in the class, and it was a very enjoyable experience. We had shot firearms in the past, but this really served us well as a safety 'refresher' course. We have vouchers for extra range time, which we will no doubt use in the next couple weeks for some more practice time. read more
