The shop is very clean and, unlike many stores of this nature, you can walk around without fear of creating a domino-effect of falling knick-knacks. I saw a really interesting German bicycle here recently - it was from the early 1970s and was made in West German, which I thought was neat. The shop owner was very knowledgeable about the bike and was able to tell me a little history on it. If you're strolling down Main Street and are doing some shopping or have some time on your hands, Main Street Mercantile is a great place to have a look-see.

I'm afraid to say that being a retail business is hard, and sometimes people get worn out from it. That said this is a solid shop, and there is a lot of inventory that changes ALL THE TIME ! I know I've been there and bought stuff for 25 years!). The owner operators have hearts of gold, but it's hard to show it every day for 30+ years! People love the quirks of the "TV show" people, but when they encounter real people... run to the internet and "trash them". Be kind... it's a store that is unlike any other for 200 miles or more. They support the kids of this community in many ways for many years, sure they may have pissed a few people off, but like I said, they have hearts of gold and more often than not are kind and helpful. Running retail for 30 years isn't easy.

They are located toward the end of Main Street, where the downtown Lafayette area starts to taper off. The South House has so many cute and unique items! Everything from statues and candles to artwork and textiles and flatware. It kind of reminded me of a grown-up Anthropologie, but without the clothing. Just nice, delicate things that look like they came from overseas. Things you want to hold in your hand and display in your home. Because it was early days for the store, they were still setting a few things up. But the store is beautiful, and it was nice to just wander around and be surrounded by beautiful objects. This is a great place to find a gift for someone who likes nice, thoughtful gifts.

Displays are well spaced apart so you're not bumping into other shoppers. Or as in our case, room for my friend to walk easily between displays with her walker. The owner was kind enough to allow her to sit on several chairs as she needed to rest a few times while browsing the shop. (Side effects of Covid-19). Currently the Easter decor is the holiday being displayed throughout and it is adorable. The varies types of bunnies with different hair and faces are so fun. If you're decorating for Easter she has adorable pieces to set the holiday mood in your home and centerpieces for your dining table. The furniture is gorgeous, priced well, versatile and perfect for many home decor styles. You'll also find colorful rugs, amazing lamps, bowls, blanket chests, wardrobes, ceramic pieces, glassware, wreaths, phenomenal artifical floral arrangements in all colors and would work in so many places in a home. So many things that it's impossible to mention it all. The owner was very friendly, answered questions, allowed us to browse freely and at our pace. As I mentioned before she allowed my friend to sit on the furniture when she couldn't walk any further which was so kind of her. She has an Open House this week so try to attend if you're free. I posted the Open House Flyer under the Tips button or checkout her Facebook site. Wonderful shop and well worth the 45 minute drive from the Westside of Indy. The prices have really gone insane as well and will be trying to print myself next year given the two other local print shop costs we ended up with these past years. I'm still glad and can recommend Instant Copy, however for the basic budget and simple needs at these prices, am now motivated to attempt our printing ourselves since my Canon color LaserJet printer was not even double the cost of what we spent here!
