Oh my just paid $26 for a 12oz steak with rice and marsh potatoes. This is the worst steak and side; I have ever had. I was very skeptical about the purpose and I said let me give it a try. The rice was taste; no flavor ; I don't know who prepared that cilantro rice: tasteless. The mash was sweet and had absolutely no flavor. Oh my the steaks was a water logged steak. I had to throw about half of the bowl away that was filled with water. I could not even eat the steak because I thought it would damage my teeth. I try to avoid reviewing chain restaurants as I try to avoid patronizing them. However, in McPherson. KS options are limited. If I'm in the mood to be entertained by the locals, I come here and sit at the bar. Locals like this place and they typically don't disappoint with local behavior. The bar service is awesome and friendly. The food is hot and as expected. Have had a few items off the expansive menu. Nothing bad really but healthy options are limited. Portions are huge and you won't leave hungry. Drinks seem to be well served with alcohol. At 5pm the place is crowded. By 7:30pm it's a much lighter crowd. The seating and ambience are typical Applebees. Nothing out of the ordinary. Singles to groups are all welcomed and easily accommodated. read more

Food- Do not recommend the all you can eat chicken, shrimp and ribs The shrimp tasted like freezer burn. Breading on it was terrible. Also the chicken penne was worse than canned dog food from Old Roy dog food. The manager took off the bill one of the chicken penne. It seemed like the manager didn't want to be there. It was a long day at work and options were limited so the group consensus was Applebees. It had been a while since I dined at an Applebees it and sadly it did not meet expectations. 3 out 4 ordered the Rib-eye steak and I ordered the Top Sirloin. All of us had the same feeling - meat was tough & flavorless! I think the only thing I enjoyed was the broccoli. We also ordered the appetizers but that never arrived as our meal preceded that. Our waitress removed from our ticket. She apologized and took ownership, it was not a big deal but definitely appreciate her telling us it was her fault. My team figured it would be a while which is why we ordered the appetizers. Since we're just visitors to the area we won't get a chance to return but obviously wanted to make note of our feelings. Manager did nothing about a guy loudly cursing and making vulgar references while mothers with children were staring in disbelief. Bad service and bad atmosphere for family with kids. We came to applebees to get some food and drinks, and let me tell we did not get that. Ordered the French onion soup and it was not any kind of appetizing. Took one bite and instantly spot it out. It was also too dark in color and all mush. Wasn't even offered for it to be comp off the ticket. We ordered the chicken broccoli alfedo and their 4 cheese Mac and cheese. Both dishes were completely underwhelming. Service was average at best. We needed to ask for drinks everytime we ran out. We didn't even finish eating our meals... Unfortonately the Blonde has been change to an apple format and is no longer a reason to come to Applebees. It is not as good as the old blonde. The apples are hard and don't really go with the rest of the dish. There is no maple sauce which is what made it work. Wake up and fix this. I've been coming here once a week since August. Every week seems to get worse than the one before. The servers all sit in their phones as we are needing service. The drinks are overpriced and not worth what I am being charged. The pub fried continually get worse. Burnt bacon, no cheese, very fee fries. Management sits and watched everything happen and doesn't do anything but act like their best friend because she went to college with the servers. The bartender makes the wrong drinks it makes it so sour you can't drink it. They charge for the more expensive item and say you orders it so it's your fault. Disappointed in how we got treated at applebees today. Sat there long enough to order but then left before we got our appetizer to us. Our main server was rude asked us what we wanted for our appetizer and then just left when we were still deciding and I had to call him back. He also just slammed the menus on the table in a rude manner. I had asked for a lemonade and received a water when I asked another waitress she looked at me and just said "okay?" she lacked professionalism and when I asked her if I could get one all she said was I'll let your server know. This is most disgusting restaurant I have ever been to. There was literally cockroaches on the ground near the bar area, how are you going to have so many bugs and still be open. Some of the servers ran out from the back screaming about spiders and bugs, that's absolutely disgusting. What is wrong with people, why is this place still open? Usually I have a great experience at Applebee's but tonight we got car side to go and was very disappointed. Paid an extra 1.99 for onion rings and literally got 5 all together. fries, chicken strips and loaded mashed potatoes were all cold. Had to air fry everything when we got home we live 2 minutes away. Let me start by saying....I have had some crumby experiences at this Applebee's that have never made Yelp, but this was by far the worst, and worthy of a review. There was never a point in our meal that we did not feel like a complete and total inconvenience to our server. We were never was given name or a smile. If "Sage" hadn't been on her name tag, we never would have known. The food looked like someone had slammed it onto the plate, was not even close to hot, and one of our orders was incorrect. About 3/4 of the way through our meal, our server took an unannounced break, without any notice to us, and sat down in the dining room to eat within eyeshot of our table. We sat and waited for our check as we watched her eat her dinner. Seeing that another server was still on the floor, she could have easily given our check to the other server to give to us in her absence, had she been interested in making sure we are accommodated....which is a practice I've used 100 times in service. Her manager came out of the kitchen at one point, completely disinterested in what was happening in the dining room, ate her meal at one of the bar tables nearby, and then disappeared again despite my attempts at making eye contact. Some time after, our server got up from her congregational meal with her coworkers, disappeared into the kitchen for awhile, and came back out....only to disappear again. We were never spoken to. The manager reappeared to chat with other customers. I finally walked my bill to her and asked if she could please ring me up in the politest tone I could muster. She did not appear sober, but I'm not one to make assumptions. She said yes, then walked my check to the server, who eventually rang us up. We immediately placed our card on the check. In the time it took for the check to be retrieved, the manager took a seat at the bar 5' away from us, and began to complain loudly to a bar patron about how annoying the holidays were and how much she hated Christmas music. Again, she did not appear sober. At all. Our check was eventually picked up, cashed out, and we left. Even while sitting 5' away, the manager never checked back in with us, and instead continued to complain loudly to the patron tasked with listening to her continual gripes. As someone previously employed as a restaurant general manager at another point in my life, I cannot even comprehend passing off a check that had to be walked up to me by a table, passing it off to a server again, and then never checking back with them after the fact. I hardly EVER leave bad reviews as I worked in restaurants for some time and understand that bad days happen, but this was just ridiculous. Even for Applebee's. Even for this particular Applebee's. There was zero interest in customer service in any sense of the term. I think this was the final straw. It may be the neighborhood restaurant, but I will not be back. read more

The food is REALLY hit or miss--sometimes it's OK, but then again, sometimes it's over-cooked (like my most recent fiesta lime chicken) and over-dried (like the rice that accompanied said chicken) that is, enough for the average diner to notice. Just another Applebee's. The food & drinks are all just okay. The main perk is being able to walk (or stumble) home to the hotels nearby. The crowd gets pretty rough after 10 pm, so I definitely suggest coming in any time earlier. I've heard plenty of sketchy stuff goes down after that time. read more

Arrived at 4:30 with a group for half priced appetizers. Very few people in the restaurant, but it still took 20 minutes to move tables around to seat our group. My daughter and I were visiting colleges in the Midwest from Cali and decided to stop in Applebees since we are familiar with their menu. We were seated right away by a very sweet hostess who was all smiles. Our waitress was prompt and courteous; refilled our drinks before we asked and brought our check immediately. My sirloin steak was cooked perfectly. However, the rice was undercooked and bland.. My daughter didn't love her Cajun chicken dish but liked the shrimp it came with. Took about 10 min to get a drink. I asked for a water and Long Island. The Long Island arrived, water did not. Another friend showed up. His drink and my water didn't arrive for 45 min after asking 4 times for it. Drinks took to long to get. And she was clearly not servicing the other tables well because the manager was taking care of them. But the manager only went to the only two table that were full of adults. He skipped our table. This restaurant showed blatant disorganization, and the lack of skill required to pick themselves up. The waitresses did well to hold to our needs, yet the attentiveness was definitely below satisfactory. Our orders went unanswered, and for a long time we waited for them to show up, to no avail. This place has often overcooked food, or overseasoned, and things are almost never as expected, even to the lowest of expectations.
