Applebee's (LaVale, MD), mid-January, 2026. My husband and I were traveling on I-68 near Cumberland, MD, and needed a lunch stop that would be restful (from driving) but also relatively fast as we still had a few hours of driving ahead of us. We were seated quickly at the Applebee's, and decided to order from their 2 for $25 menu; as usual, we would split the food. This is A LOT of food for $25 -- a full-sized appetizer to share, plus two full-sized entrees. We ordered the Spinach and Artichoke Dip as our appetizer (usually $12.99), which is topped with Parmesan cheese and served with white corn tortillas and chipotle lime salsa. I ordered the new O-M-Cheeseburger (normally $11.99), that featured a juicy, all-beef burger, topped with American cheese, Applewood-smoked bacon, and spicy honey mustard, served in a sizzling skillet of molten queso and a blend of cheddar cheese. I selected the garlic mashed potatoes as my side. My husband ordered a Grilled Oriental Chicken Salad (usually $16.99), which features grilled chicken on a bed of Asian greens, crunchy noodles, and almonds tossed in an Oriental vinaigrette. It's served with a breadstick that has been brushed with buttery garlic and parsley. Food. (Rating: 4/5). Our appetizer (5/5) arrived within five minutes of our order, and it was very tasty. The entrees were delivered before we had finished the appetizer. Since we would be splitting our entrees, we were pleased to see that the burger was already cut in half with both pieces served in the molten cheese. While the O-M-Cheeseburger (4/5) was tasty, we'll probably go back to a traditional cheeseburger for future orders as our entree was somewhat messy and had too much cheese for our tastes. The garlic mashed potatoes were AMAZING, and were also good dipped in the molten cheese. We were so full after eating the appetizer and the burger entree that we opted to take the second entree, the salad, as take-out. We ate the salad (3/5) the next day. While we both tend to like sweet things, the dressing was far too sweet for both of our tastes. Quantities and value were excellent, but most food at Applebee's is a nutritional bomb. Even the GRILLED oriental chicken salad has 1440 calories, while the O-M-Cheeseburger came in at 1680 calories. Our waitress was excellent, and we had finished our relaxing lunch within 45 minutes (within our goal). We would eat here again. read more

Our server was sweet and we waited a fair amount of time for how busy it was. However, the food was lukewarm and the chicken was chewy.

Ordered carry out grilled chicken with a side of broccoli. They literally gave me FOUR SMALL PIECES of broccoli, under a quarter cup. I paid $20 for this. I can't believe what they were thinking when they packed my order. They are incredibly stingy with takeout orders, I felt scammed. I guess they try to save money by skimping on takeout orders? Very weird business practice. Be wary of this if ordering takeout, they do not operate like a normal Applebees and are EXTREMELY stingy. read more

The food is delicious but the past couple times I've been here with my girlfriend she always gets the same thing which is the broccoli and shrimp Alfredo and every time she orders it it gets messed up and they bring us chicken and shrimp Alfredo not a big deal but it's been getting frustrating because I'd be halfway through my meal while she is just getting her food read more

My wife and I had dinner tonight at this Applebee's in Lavale. The service was the best we have experienced in over 5 years and we eat out about 5 nights a week. Emma L was our server and was fabulous. No waiting on drinks and did not have to ask for refills, she was on it! Food came out piping hot in about 5 minutes. Quite the enjoyable dining experience. We went to Applebees Grill last night, only because I had a Gift Card I needed to use. Not normally a fan, due to terrible service years ago, but thought "FREE MEAL"..Let's go!! We arrived and were immediately seated...right up front where we couldn't be missed....and THAT was the END of any and all customer service!!! We waited 15 mins for someone to take a DRINK ORDER....Ordered a sweet tea and it arrived with half melted ice and came from the bottom, the veryyy bottom, of the pot, and tasted AWFUL! After that someone flew by and dropped off clean silverware on several tables....We ordered a SALAD and Club Sandwich and STILL no food. I tried to summon the only waitress that went by our table and she looked right at me and turned her head and kept going. I look to the front of the store and there are FIVE EMPLOYEES sitting there playing on their phones!!! At this point I started to become ill and told my fiancé to get the food to go and I'd wait in car....5 mins, and a barf bag later still sitting in car, my fiancé texts and says they're boxing it up! I texted him from car five mins AFTER THAT and told him to leave without food as I was to ill to wait any longer...all for a Club Sandwich and salad that we left without and ice tea that made me nauseous! I'd give ZERO STARS if possible! This places needs new MGMT! And driving home I reminded myself to NEVER go there again and to sell the gift card on the yard sale sight! I guess they could have refused service at the door, but it took 15 minutes to get a seat on Saturday night with 1/4 of the seats open, then we got sat down and they couldn't get the food out in 45 minutes. Been here several times with no issue, but this afternoon was just bad (Monday 8/28) - while the food was ok, the service was horrendous. It started out with a musty smell when we walked in the door, and it went downhill from there. It took us 2 hours from when we walked in the door to when we left, the server was meh - nothing special, but the wait time for food & drink was just unacceptable. In fact, while we were there, the family of a kitchen staffer was there (right behind us) which pulled him off the line for at least 20 minutes. It just added insult to injury while we waited, and waited, and waited. Not cool. We like Applebee's, but it'll be hard to justify coming back anytime soon. I have eaten at this location several times over the years while being in the area for family functions, weddings, etc. The restaurant is very clean and even though with any chain there is going to be very rough at times, the experience is worth it. I have gotten a variety of items from appetizers to entrees and desserts. In the times I've gotten the appetizers, they have been an upscale version of your usual bar fare, their wings are good, the cheese sticks are meh, and to me their best appetizer are spinach artichoke dip with chips and their boneless wings. As far as entrees I usually stick to steaks and this one dish they had before that had chicken with shrimp and some sweet honey type sauce on it. They don't have it anymore (of course), but the times I ordered their pastas it hasn't ended well. She barely acknowledges you when you arrive and usually just points to your table when she seats you. She lacks a professional appearance. Terrible experience. Wife and I ordered both Sirloin, medium with green beans. My came overcooked hard as a piece of wood. The green beans were floating in a greasy liquid. Waitress apologized and after a long wait brought a medium cooked sirloin. I was told that one sirloin will be taken out of the check. They didn't and they charged for two. Saturday night my husband and I came in to have a dinner. Our food was delicious but our service sucked we had Alexis.Not only was she rude and very disrespectful she never checked on us once. We could see her ignoring us while she gossiped amongst the other servers. Then as we are leaving we see her yelling at the poor host in front of everyone. Honestly, you don't expect a whole lot out of an Applebee's but this place is legit, and seemingly always full. Cumberland is sort of a food desert and some of the best meals we've had here have occurred while eating good in this neighborhood. Worth it, especially when it's late ("late" in Cumberland is anytime after eight pm) And everything else is closed. read more

We experienced some of the worst service here tonight. Janice was one of the worst servers any of our group have ever had. She neglected to check on us throughout the hour and a half that she left us there. She brought us the wrong checks 3 times. After telling her that we received food that we did not order and did not want, we were still charged for it. The table beside us was still receiving food after ours and we came in about a half hour after them. She said she would be right with us, but proceeded to help 4 other guests before coming to us. read more

Honestly, I've given this place chance after chance and every single time, I'm more than disappointed. The only reason I've continued to come back is because I do like Applebee's food and unfortunately this is the only location within almost two hours of me or I would never step food near it again. Granted, almost every experience here within the past year has been no better than "okay" the past two times have really just been the final straw. We visited about a month ago and as we walked through the door the hostess wasn't there so we figured she was busy and waited for 2-3 minutes. Another couple comes in after us and they waited as well and finally the hostess comes up. She doesn't even acknowledge us, looks right at the couple that came in after us and seats them right away. Comes back, helps two other guests before she finally acknowledges us and says it's a 45 minute wait. At this point we're obviously annoyed because did she just give the couple that came in after us our table because she didn't bother asking who was here first or were they already on the wait list? Who knows because she didn't communicate any of that so we're just left to assume. We decide to wait and after almost an hour, we get sat at a little high top by the bar. The food came out okay I guess but everything was very dry and cold like it had been sitting in the window for awhile, which would make sense since the bartender couldn't leave the bar to go check on the food. The service was mediocre because the bartender aka our server was too overwhelmed with tables and the whole bar. We waited for everything a very long time. Drinks, food, check, boxes, all took forever to get and even when she gave us the check and we were sitting there waiting for her to take it, it took almost 45 minutes for her to just come back and run the card so we could leave. The same hostess from the beginning was also walking around cleaning tables as she's flinging old food and napkins all over the floor with her rag and not even cleaning it up after....disgusting. We never saw a manager walking around once. The second time my boyfriend and I came was last night and that will probably be the last time. I called about 20-30 minutes before coming in and talked to a man who assured me they were completely empty and I didn't need to make a call ahead seating or reservation. I asked if I could go ahead and do it anyways because I really didn't want to wait when we got there but again he said it's not necessary at all because they're empty and even if they fill up the most we'll have to wait is 5-10 minutes. So we get there 20 minutes later as stated and of course, they're packed and the wait is 35 minutes long. I was not happy honestly because why not put my name down just in case rather than being wrong and now I have to wait when you said I wouldn't? That's why i called ahead. So we waited and finally get sat. This time our food was great so no complaints there. Our server was very overwhelmed once again and didn't check in much but she was very nice. I saw a manager walk out twice while we were there but he didn't talk to any tables. I understand with covid some things are more difficult and it sucks because I really love Applebee's food and drinks but the service at this location just needs some serious help and I don't think we'll be back. read more

Worst service ever. Came in with my sister and stood by the door and nobody came to seat us so we sat ourselves . The place was practically empty. Waited a good 10 minutes and someone came by saying " someone will help y'all soon but because y'all sat yourselves it'll take longer. Still waiting and it's been 20 minutes... Update: they finally took our order and tried to buy a drink and because my license is from Virginia and not horizontal apparently it's invalid. I was very upset because I always buy drinks here at different locations as well . After speaking to the manager about the service and policy she was very nice and gave us a discount. I might say this experience has... changed me. The fam (9), after dropping the newest college student off at FSU, was ready to dine. It was about 8pm. The initial plan was to go to an area restaurant, which closed at 9, and could accommodate a party that big for 45 mins. Depressed (and hungry, which means more depressed and a little angry), the fam debated with each other about what to do, we decided to go to Applebee's. Mostly because it closed at 12am. It's kinda what us "big city" people are used to. No one was pleased; none of us wanted to go. There was a wait for a table, again to accommodate our party. The restaurant wasn't packed, but it seemed a challenge to find tables to consolidate for us. And this was 8:30pm up in the mountains - go you late-stayer-upers! Needless to say we ended up sitting near the bathrooms :( Lori was our server, and she was SUPER accommodating. The restaurant was out of ice, but every drink we had had ice. We had two diners whose plates were cold, and she asked the manager to come out and talk to us. My son gained a free sundae; he was happy! We never were in need of anything: sauces, napkins, silver; she was on it! The food was surprisingly good too! I avoid Applebee because of their menu; the food is fried, expensive, and boring. Not this time. I really enjoyed my Margarita chicken, which came highly recommended by Lori; it did not disappoint. My son's cold rib was cooked well, although I wasn't a big fan of the sticky sauce. I've found it's one of the only familiar restaurant chains serving the area. But for a while until recently, I never had time to go out much really.. Earlier this week, one of their manager's "Scottie" bounced me from the premises because I tried to give their super beautiful hostess a Christmas present (gold earrings - which she refused) but managed to squeeze her my business card instead. Apparently, she claimed I had harassed her because she noticed that I liked to get their $.99 kiwi flavored iced tea from their To-Go register after work, or whenever I felt like it. But "Scottie" contends that I must have spoken with her like all two times too many.. which is complete BS.. And he refused to mediate. Needless to say I've been upset because "Scottie" threatened me with the Police several times during our first and only conversation outside the restaurant while next to my vehicle. Never in my wildest dreams have I had such an unfortunate experience at ANY restaurant ANYWHERE (And I've worked in a handful of restaurants in my time too). Law which we understand accidents happen but the floor still hasn't been mopped up and no wet floor signs out as I write this and it's almost been an hour. We went to this Applebee's on Friday June 25th. The waiter was not the best and they had someone shadowing him. It created a huge traffic jam and long wait times. My husband ask the waiter a question and he answered him. When our bill came, my husband asked why he had been charged double. The waiter admitted he misunderstood the question and asked the manager, Tom, for a adjustment to our bill. Tom came over to the table and did not seem to understand what the waiter was saying. The waiter was apologetic and we said it was fine. Then Tom, who must be on an ego trip, came back over to our table. He belittled my husband in front of a large group of people. He explained what our waiter had already explained (the waiter did so very nicely) then said next time don't ask for the wrong thing. He was rude, loud and nasty to us. When I tried to say something he talked over me. We will never be returning to this Applebee's and I wish Tom would realize that we (the customer) pay his salary. The food is ok I guess. Nothing much to really elaborate there, but I would stick to the basics of a burger or something simple. Save your money for any of the higher priced items on their menu. This place specifically lost a star for their service. If you seen me scooping ice in my child's drink with a fork while you are standing there, you might wan to ask if we need some ice. Not just a one time issue. The service is consistently bad. I only go back at others requests. Stop at Ruby Tuesday's(similar menu) if you are between the two. They have everything Applebee's misses. Not that Ruby Tuesday's gets 100% approval rating, but it is night and day between the two on service and consistency of food quality. Both are chain restaurants which says enough. read more

Great for AppleBee's. I had the Chicken Tortilla soup and Double crunch Buffalo style Hot wings. Both delicious. Bar Keep, Michael, was great. Many locals in bar area, whichever kept the atmosphere jovial. The manager was visible throughout my stay. Employees appeared happy and joking about the place. Clean feel. Would come here again, not only for the food but the comfort. read more

I was not quickly greeted upon entering. The hostess was talking to other staff. My server was slow and inattentive. She made no offers or suggestions and did not mention the daily special. I ordered my steak medium well and it came nearly raw. The potatoes and tomatoes were way over-cooked and cold. The server never came back after bringing my food to check on the quality.
