Applebee's. Middle of nowhere. Not a lot of choices unless you count gas station jerky and regret. Honestly? This one delivered. Service was outstanding -- friendly, attentive, and actually seemed happy to be there, which deserves recognition these days. The place was clean (including the tables, floors, and everything I usually side-eye). Burger was on point -- hot, juicy, no nonsense. The salad was fresh, which already puts this location ahead of expectations. Beer came in large glasses and was super cold, exactly how beer is supposed to be when you've been driving too long. Is it fine dining? No. Is it pretending to be something it's not? Also no. It's Applebee's doing Applebee's very well. The food was amazing, their wings have a nice flavor and their mashed potatoes are perfectly seasoned. The service is amazing, despite being busy they managed to keep the wait short and I was given a refill when I didn't ask. The ambiance is very cozy despite the dead fly next to me on the window. Firstly I only go to this place for a beer once or twice a week so I stay at the bar and don't eat, mainly because the food quality and quantity is debatable and, to be honest, any so called resteraunt that can't even provide bread or rolls with a meal isn't worth going to for food. Anyway, I went up there last night (6:30pm 11th Aug 24) and sat at the bar, there were a few others at the bar but they had all been served their food and or drinks. The so called bar maid looked at me and walked past me 5 or 6 times, stopping at the till that was infront of me on 3 occassions yet not once did she ask if I wanted anything, she completely ignored me. As a result, I lodged a complaint with a "big guy" and left. On the occassions I have been there, there has always been a tall blonde barmaid (Sarah) who is great so, like the food and service, I suppose you just have to be choosy about when you go, if you must go at all and considering there are much better places/resteraunts in Hornell NY, this place is a definate last resort for me. read more

We've been here several times and it's hit or miss at this place. Sometimes the food and service are great, other times it's absolutely terrible. So for a couple times we just risked it since our son likes it there. But after our last visit we've decided to never go again. This was the worst food I have ordered in a long time! Picked up curbside, 1 minute late. Food was so dried out, tasted like it was cooked a week ago. Chicken was so tough you could not chew it. Cheese on top of chicken was burnt, no sauce at all, rice was sickening. Will never go to this Applebee's again, should of gone to Geneseo Applebee's ! What a waste of fifty dollars and gas. Ridiculous take out prices. $6 for a tiny bowl of soup, and they just tell you thats the only size they have when they offer two sizes in house? Didn't even bring out the soup before they fully charged my card- would not have paid that much if I knew how small it was! Not to mention, it was barely half full and barely contained 20 spoonfuls! Greasy food, the pastas are kind of thick and you can just tell how many calories you're inhaling. Would not return. read more

Absolutely terrible service. We went in to eat tonight and they told my family of 6 that it would be a 5 minute wait. And that we would have to wait outside due to covid restrictions. (Understandable). 25 minutes later after sitting in the hot sun I get up to see if they forgot about us. Hostess says no they haven't, table should b ready in a couple more minutes. Back outside we go. 10 minutes later another worker comes out and tells us it will be at least another 15 minutes before we would be seated. Meanwhile a minimum of 10 people went into the restaurant and were seated. Thanks for wasting 45 minutes of my day making me and my family sit outside. Terrible experience. I'm new to the area and have gone to this Applebee's about 3 times since moving here. Applebee's food is definitely not high quality, but there's something on the menu for everyone so my husband & I figured it would be a safe bet for a good meal. The first time, we were surprised at how much the menu has been cut down (I'm assuming at all Applebee's considering its been quite sometime since eating at one) but yet still able to find something to eat. The food has definitely gotten worse when it comes to quality. Tonight I ordered carside to go. It was a simple order. One of the new combos. I ordered a skewer of shrimp and the grilled chicken and pasta combo and chose the fettuccine Alfredo. Get home with the order and I was disappointed. The combo (with out any changes made to it) should've had chicken, broccoli, and mashed potatoes. Rather, they have me green beans (which I can't even handle the smell of). The fettuccine Alfredo has broccoli in it apparently... which I wasn't aware of and would've requested no broccoli in it, as I don't like broccoli swimming in sauces, but it's a whole 3 pieces of broccoli, not even a typical amount to be put into pasta. The food tastes horrible and I will never do this again. Save yourself and visit somewhere else. read more

Simply amazing Managers and staff!! I had gone here for my birthday dinner and in the chaos of leaving with my fiancé and daughter I had forgotten my meal that we had barely ate on the table when we left not realizing until we were home and settled, spending almost $100 on dinner and not being able to enjoy most of it was a disappointment but this Applebee's came to the rescue and remade both my fiancé and my self's dinner for us to pick up car side pick up!! I was visiting Hornell and with few restaurants open on Sunday we picked Applebees since we are familiar with it. Very nice service, clean and social distance seating, the 2 for $29 deal was a great find and the steak, broccoli and salad came just as ordered. We're frequent visitors of this Applebee's location. Always stop for eats to curb our appetites before going to Wegman's, so we don't end up buying half the store. We're always seated promptly and even given our choice of where we'd like to sit. The hostess takes our drink orders promptly and they are brought out anywhere from immediately to 10 min, depending on how busy the place is. They give you ample time to order and will give you more time to decide or make suggestions if you are having trouble deciding. Service is always fast and friendly, and the food is always hot. My personal recommendations are the spinach artichoke dip for an appetizer, and the 3 cheese macaroni with honey chicken, or the key lime fiesta chicken. read more

We went to meet a couple friends for dinner and drinks. My boyfriend and I got the combo platter to share, he got a burger, and I had a salad for dinner. In the time of having an appetizer and dinner, I had 2 drinks and he had 3. Our server came over to tell us that her manager may be talking to us because we have had too much to drink. Note, we weren't being noisy or disrupting anybody. We felt so uncomfortable and decided to close our check and then our server proceeds to tell us that we can try sitting at the bar. She says "The bartender was actually the one complaining about having to make the drinks." Maybe time for a career change for the bartender. A very disappointing $100 that I had to spend at Applebees. We felt so uncomfortable that we felt the need to leave. We could see behind us the manager and server talking and glancing at us. This franchise used to be one of my favorite places to eat, this particular location is probably one of the best examples of what has gone badly. Even the recent refresh of this location does not hide the bad. Slow service, fine dining level pricing, bad food. 12.49 for mediocre frys and chicken fingers!!! Wilted salads!!! Never fear if you buy 12.49 fingers meal and get a 2nd equally bad order for free. And still feel the value is not there!! Sad to see icons of good food completely fall apart. read more

Best time to go would be 1 to 3 or 7 and after.... anything before that or in between you get stuck with either left over food from the day before (which doesn't taste great) or it's super busy and extremely loud. read more

Brought my grandfather here for dinner while my grandma was in the hospital. The staff was alright but could have been more attentive. Only refilled our coffee once. The food was good but the price was high. By the time we got done for the two of us it was nearly $50. Portion size was alright but should have been more food for the price. read more

Decided to go out to dinner. Don't do it very often and thought we'd try Applebee's for a change. We were seated promptly however my husband uses a cane to walk and for some reason the hostess lead us down a couple stairs and clear to the back of the restaurant. It would have been nice if we were asked if it was more convenient not to walk as far. However, we were very pleased to see some changes to the menu from a year ago. Had the potstickers as an appetizer and the sauces that came with them, were delicious. My husband ordered a American Burger which was a basic cheeseburger and I ordered the Breakfast Brunch Burger which is similar to Red Robin's Royal Robin. Burger with an egg. Both burgers came cooked as ordered and were large in size so I couldn't even finish mine. Waitress was attentive and drinks were replenished regularly without asking. They do have trivia games on the tabletops but if you want to play it adds .99 onto your bill. Which seems ridiculous. All-in-all a good experience. Hostesses should be taught to notice people with disabilities though and ask them where the most convenient place for them to sit would be. I liked changes to the menu. I love the people working here, they are very nice. The food is good. The problem I am having is that I drink Jim beam Apple liquor, and they ran out 5 weeks ago and habe not gotten any since. I eat here at least once a week on Friday nights, sometimes 2 to 3 times a week and everyone there knows us. It is very irritating when you are told that the person doing the liquor order is going to get it and then next week, nothing. I started drinking water rather then ordering something else, they can lose the revenue from it. If this continues I will start looking for somewhere else to eat. read more

Service was awful. People that came in after us were served before we could order appetizers. My sister ordered a triple bacon burger and it looked more like a crippled bacon burger. They messed up the orders a lot. The only time we got any attention from the server was near the end when a tip was supposed to be given out. My wife asked to see the manager and he or she never came. Finally, on the way out the person who seats the customers asked how we liked it and my wife said not too good and he asked if she wanted to see the manager and my wife couldn't believe it, he was the same person she asked before to see the manager. This restaurant has nothing noteworthy. The only reason they are getting one star is because of the margarita. The hostess couldn't remember my servers name, didn't ask me how I was doing or anything professional. She just waddled around like she was being overworked. I ordered my drink and food without any problems except my waitress was way too serious ( military serious). During the same visit I was there by myself and had just ordered dessert. The waitstaff at the Hornell Applebee's is friendly and courteous. For the growing prices there.. I find the portions have drastically shrunk. My biggest issue is that the place is very dirty; especially the tables. I took my family there after a couple years of not eating out and when we sat down I was disgusted at the layers of filth on the table. I asked the waitress to wipe the table down. She did and it made no difference. I took a baby wipe out and scrubbed a spot in the table. The difference was stomach turning. Just gross. I would attach photo, but see no option to do this. That place needs a good scrub down and a return to normal portion sizes. Money is tight and folks deserve to get their money's worth. This is in no way the fault of the girls who work there.
