Last Wed. my Mom and I were driving through Barrie on our way home after an afternoon at a beach and as we always do, we stopped in town for dinner. It had been 3 years since our last time doing this, and we didn't see the restaurant we previously had dinner at on the main street, so Mom suggested Applebee's, as she has been there before and enjoyed it. It wasn't very crowded when we arrived around 6 pm and it pretty much stayed that way while we were there. The venue is quite large and I noticed a TV, tuned to the 24 hr news station. Their A/C could definitely be felt and the service was quite prompt. I ordered their Shepherd's Pie w/Garden Salad (sans dressing), and I found both to be quite delicious and satisfying. I can reassuringly recommend Applebee's after my 1st visit, as I/we had no issues about anything while we were there. read more

Amazing service! We came for lunch on a Saturday while passing by Barrie and had a great time! We ordered two piece fish and chips and the batter was crispy and the fish was flaky! It wasn't overly battered or heavy which I liked! The all you can eat riblets, boneless chicken, and shrimp was also a great deal as it comes with fries and so many flavour options for your meats! The Cesar salad was also nicely dressed with the perfect amount of bacon. The coleslaw had a bit too much dressing but was still good. The dry riblets were also delicious! Although it was busy on Saturday, we did not feel rushed and the food came out on time. The lighting was very low , could barely read the menu. Service was excellent. But the food was nowhere near what the menu picture showed . Quesadilla hamburger and I ended up with what looked like two meat tacos . My appetizers of popcorn shrimp were cold. This was my first time visiting Applebee's and it was decent. We ordered the two can dine for $45 which includes an appetizer, 2 entrees and dessert. It is such a great deal! I am a vegetarian and I ordered the cheese ravioli for my entree because that was the only vegetarian option. It was okay but not the best. The best part was the spinach and artichoke dip. My recommendation would be to add more vegetarian options to the 2 can dine for $45. read more

Please do your self a favour and pass on this place. Food is subpar and extra salty( and I like salt) at its best.You won't be greeted by anyone for a while, more likely served by same person who is bartender as well. Severely understaffed unless waitresses who work there were on strike. read more

I had the Cajun Shrimp Pasta, not expecting general purpose flavourless shrimp, cooked to rigidity, served on a bed of limp, powdery pasta. Don't be hating, too much hating happening in these other reviews, and there needs to be a recent review, come on fellow Barrie Yelpers, where are you?? I once too did feel like all of you, but after trying the Niagara Falls, NY location I decided to give the 2 for $25 I try on this side of the border. It was a quiet night, and service was fast and prompt. Actually we had an amazing server who helped us decide what we wanted and also told us what not to order! I love when they can be upfront and straight with you. They know what's good they work there, they see what people like and what is popular and not so famous... We started with the spinach and artichoke dip, which only lasted a few seconds! It was delicious! We both ordered Honey Pepper Sirloin off the 2 for $30 menu but if someone wanted one entree from the $25 side and one from the $30 side they will meet you in the middle with the price. Now back to the steak which our server recommended and I'm glad she did, I wouldn't have ordered a steak at Applebee's because I just didn't think it would be the right place for good steak but I was WRONG! It was cooked perfect to liking, and really tasty! The honey really gives it a sweet taste. Also, if you use foursquare there is an offer for a free dessert shooter! I had wanted Cajun chicken penne pasta instead I received rigatoni with meat sauce. it was ok but not the experience I wanted. as well I would not classify Applebees as a sports bar because they only had sportsnet and tsn on. if you have read by previous reviews I am picky about sports bars . if you are a sports bars you must be able to show sporting events that you can not see on regular tv and have a special vibe to it . Just went for lunch. Not sure if I am going to end up with an upset stomach. The chicken was cold and reheated and was not fresh. It tasted burnt and bitter. The California chicken sandwich had bitter and rotten arugula on it. The only edible items were: glass of milk, children's chicken fingers, coffee and mozzerella cheese sticks. No one came to check if the food was ok. I think they knew the food was disgusting. Of course there were no offers for a credit or a refund on 60.00 lunch for three. We were there for supper and inside the restaurant we had a marvellous experience. A cordial greeting as soon as we entered, to finding a table that would accommodate a wheel chair, to some yummy eats The waitress was engaged and extremely helpful explaining the unique menu offers(2 Can Dine) and making some nice recommendations for the food. We started with the Spin Dip appetizer. A generous portion of chips. The hot dip was tasty as was the salsa, however the salsa portion was a bit skimpy The Double Cruch shrimp were definitely 'doubled'. Very very crunchy, maybe just a bit too much. They were nice but the crunch hid the shrimp taste a bit. The Napa Portabello chicken was a hit ax was the Sweet & Spicy Stir Fry. While the beef chunks were plentiful some were a little chewy; however the veggies were nicely done and along with the wise recommendation from our waitress to have extra sauce on the side made for a great dish. Very pleased with the meal overall But now for the "But". The Handicap parking spots are a serious safety risk. They are on a significant slope so anyone with a wheelchair is at great risk. Nothing like a nice family outing then rolling into the path of a car or falling out of the chair through loss of balance. Add to that the sizeable lip to get over trying to navigate up the sidewalk to the front doors. We had to park over in the regular parking area. We went there for lunch on a Saturday, not overly busy. The server was great. Food was OK. I had a burger and the meat patty was crumbling apart and the bun was greasy. The toppings were fabulous tho and the coffee was good and our cups were kept full. The sweet potato fries and regular fries were both delicious. Had lunch today at Applebee's with my wife. Way over priced plus the chicken breast I had was so small that McDonalds have it beat on a bun. My wife wanted to substitute a small salad instead of fries with her meal. Was told this would be an up charge. A glass of fountain Pepsi was $3.09. Gave it a try twice now. Disappointed both times. This was not my family's first trip to this particular Applebee's but it might be our last. We took "advantage" of the two for twenty-five deal. I don't know whether ordering from the main portion of the menu would have been a better idea or not. What I do know is that none of us were able to finish our meals (chicken fingers and fish and chips). The only highlight of the visit was the mozzarella sticks we had as an appetizer, and it was only a highlight in comparison to the relative mediocrity of the rest of the meal. Back a few times since and have had better experiences. The servers have been more genuine, less harried (though they can often be distracted by what seem non-essential tasks like filling ketchup bottles when we need something) and if you can hone in on something on the menu that you like then it's OK. Good delicious food but the last time we found a bread clip buried in our Spinach Artichoke Dip and I mean buried as in the dip was mostly polished off before finding it. The waitress alerted the manager and we got the calmest most lousy apology ever and a promise to get the free appetizer for free (included in the 2 for $25 meal plan). At the end, no money was deducted from the bill for their disgusting lack of cleanliness in the kitchen and we doubt we will come back again. We had been frequent customers. read more

Possibly the worst restaurant meal ever. Asked the server "is the fish fresh", he replied "umm, there's no fresh fish in Canada unless you live next to the ocean". If I could give this a 0 I would, I hate this place that much. The only good part about the whole applebee's experience was the hostess that seated us and the pomegranate iced tea. Our waitress berated us with questions about appetizers, after the 10th question of "do we want an appetizer" and us stating "Noooooo WE DON'T" I wanted to kill myself. We ordered, the food was BLAND. I got a side salad with my meal instead of fries, there was so much lettuce in my "chicken rollup" that I added it to my salad to make it a full sized portion. It was $38 dollars plus tax and I felt robbed after paying, also sadenned that I had suggested it for my mom's birthday (I had never been to one before). I did they're survey online, some places give customers who didn't have a plesant experience vouchers for another try, if I receive one I will chuck it out, that's how much I don't ever want to go here again. After calling this location to make reservations for 10 they said they weren't taking reservations but would speak to the manager to see what they could do because it was such a large group. Upon arriving the young ladies at the door to great us were fantastic, but couldn't help but notice how dead it was in there. In our section of about 8 tables there was our group and a group of 3 ladies. Once our apps came out the disappointment started. Next I received my meal steak cooked medium rare I received it covered in onion and not visible at all upon removing the onion I discover a jet black charcoal steak. I asked the server to have a new one brought out which she did but at the end when we received the bill we were compensated in anyway or even given an apology. I was left out of a party of 9 to be the last one sitting eating my meal after being the last to receive my meal the first time without having to wait for the replacement. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone nor will the party of 9 I was with be returning. Terrible food, terrible servers and terrible management great job applebees Bayfield ! My boyfriend and I went to applebees for dinner and we are seriously regretting it. I ordered a simple pasta dish with cream sauce and when I went to take a bite it was just plain pasta, no sauce. Thinking they were just stingy on the sauce I asked our waitress, Adriana, for some more sauce. What she brought me was the most watery "cream" sauce Ive ever seen, had the consistency of and tasted like water. How they can serve this to people I have no idea. I barely ate any of it and Adriana took the full plate away without even asking once how our meal was. Bad service, bad food. Not worth the money at all. read more
