Apple Barrel Cafe is a casual family restaurant. The staff are very friendly. I have gone there with my husband in a wheelchair and my father using a walker. They gave us a table close to the door. Our table wasn't crowded even with a large wheelchair. Everyone enjoyed the food. My husband even sent a comment to the cook. My husband had no difficulty getting in or out of the building. I don't know about the restroom. While it may no have current decorations it is relaxing and comfortable. I like it better than the competition. read more

Been there several times and forgot to write a review. We stoped in and I had the Western Hamburger Steak. It was delicious. In fact I couldn't eat it all, took the rest home for tomorrow. My friends both got the turkey and dressing special. They both said it was ok but would order something else next time. Thank you for being open on Christmas morning! It was not too busy at 9am and I really enjoyed my spinach and mushroom omelette. I added chicken. My husband likes the chili omelette. They always bring out different tea bags for me to choose from when I order their hot tea. I think it's one of my fav diners. I came to the Apple Barrel Cafe on Mingo some time ago and made it back in today for lunch. I have had breakfast there a few times and it was always great. I wasn't familiar though with the lunch or dinner. Well, I've been missing out. I tried the Apple Barrel Tower, which is a consortium of treats to activate the pallet! Onion rings, jalapeño poppers, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks and fried mushrooms!! What a way to start!! It's served with marinara sauce which is fine but I prefer ranch with this sort of thing. It was a LOT and I couldn't eat it all, even with help from my kiddo! I still had an entree coming!! I'm a CFS snob and refuse to order one if I even think it comes from a box. This is Oklahoma after all and a staple of ours!! The chicken fried steak here is hand breaded and NOT overflowing with 4" of extra crispy stuff to make it look bigger than what it is. We had JNCOs for that in the 90s, I don't need a culinary version of that on my CFS!!! The meat was tender, breading crispy and the gravy really brought it all home! I opted for Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes which were also yummy, smooth and even better with the gravy. I tried one bite of all three on my fork at the same time and it was good, but I preferred them enjoyed separately. No complaints from me here! Oh! I forgot to mention this also came with a side salad, and yes, like the thick blooded Okie I've become, I also had it with ranch. The salad was good and tasty, but didn't wow me. That's okay to, it's a side salad, not really meant to be the star of the show. The kiddo, at lunch time opted for a single chocolate chip pancake. Normally I'd protest that but it's summer break and she only asked for one, no sides, because she knew we'd share the appetizer tower. I can live with that I suppose!! Also to note, I got great service. I caught the name of my server, but me being miserable at remembering names, I forgot. Apple Barrel Restaurant Review We've now visited Apple Barrel twice, and both experiences have been excellent--this spot has officially made it onto our list of favorite places to eat! On this visit, we ordered: Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich - $12.99 Philly Cheese Chicken Sandwich - $12.99 Sunshine Cheeseburger - $13.99 Spinach & Mushroom Omelette - $11.99 And for dessert, the Strawberry Crepes - $9.99 (highly recommended!) Every dish was flavorful, well-prepared, and served with a smile. The presentation was clean and inviting, and the portions were just right. The brewed iced tea was also perfectly made--refreshing and not overly sweet. What truly set this experience apart was the service. Our server, Shanon, was honest, kind, and incredibly attentive. We also noticed what we believe was the owner or the owner's son walking around, checking on tables and helping serve--making sure everyone was having a good experience. That personal touch goes a long way! The only small downside we noticed is that they only offer Pepsi soda products. We don't drink Pepsi and usually prefer Coke products when we do have soda. However, this doesn't change our opinion or experience one bit--this place is still absolutely wonderful. You can feel the positive energy in the restaurant; all the staff work together and genuinely seem to enjoy what they do. After a long day of work, nothing beats some comfort food. As a general rule of thumb, comfort food is my type of food. Apple Barrel Cafe is right next to KseroGrill which is where I wanted to go initially but decided to give Apple Barrel Cafe a chance. The entree at Apple Barrel Cafe comes with a salad, soup, or Mac &cheese, a choice of 2 dinner sides, and a dinner roll. I got the chicken noodle soup which was good, taste similar to Campbell's. When the waitress brought out the chicken fried chicken with broccoli and cheese and mashed potato and gravy, she asked if I want a dinner roll. Strange...I thought it comes with the entree. Either way, I did not get it. Here's the thing with the chicken fried chicken, it's really decent. When you cut into it, the batter falls off the chicken breast. So you eat either the batter or the chicken breast. All the seasoning is in the batter making it salty and chicken breast by itself tastes like steamed or boiled chicken. Service is great apart from the not bringing the dinner roll with the entree. That's okay because I am too full for a dinner roll anyway. Warning: Menu prices not accurate! The food was fine, classic diner fare (chicken & biscuits with gravy, french toast deluxe, and kid's pancakes) -- but we were charged over $6 more than the menu prices which made the check more than $40 for two adults and a kid when it should have been closer to $30-35 as advertised on the menus. When I asked about the price difference, someone (not our waitress) came up and brought a tiny sign that is on the tables explaining anything with eggs has an increase because of rising egg prices. They mentioned it was "temporary" which was why the menus weren't changed. Okay, but... this was not mentioned to us as we ordered, and one of our items that was upcharged $2 didn't have eggs. There was no changing it. They apologized and said it was the way it was. Times are hard for everyone, but please be clear and honest. It was the bait-and-switch telling us about the upcharge only AFTER we paid and had to complain. We chose this place because it looked like it was a good deal; the food was not worth the elevated prices. Save your money for a fancy brunch place... or at least, an honest brunch place. read more

We have passed by this restaurant several times and talked about eating breakfast here and we finally did today. With the name (sounds like Cracker Barrel and I hate their food) and exterior (and interior) looks, I wasn't expecting much. I was wrong! I ordered a salmon dinner with a baked potato. Usually baked potatoes are not available till 4pm but they said they had them. So I was expecting baked potato to be old from last night leftover. Wrong again! Baked potato was hot and fresh at noon! Salmon was good and also fresh. My husband ordered his favorite chicken fried steak, eggs, hash brown, biscuits and gravy. Chicken fried steak was as big as the plate and tasted good. We truly enjoyed our meals. Service was great, too. Btw, I tried to order peach tea but it was not available, so I ordered a small glass of OJ. The glass was not small and the OJ was good. HIDDEN FEEs they change your a CONV FEE which if you question they say it's a credit card fee but will not remove it if you pay cash. Besides that the CONV FEE is double what a credit card fee would be. There are no signs posted about the fee - you are only aware if you read your reciept and then you have to pay regardless. Raise your prices and don't rip us off with uneccessary and untruthful fees! The food and service was good, I just don't like being shafted at the end. They willl not get any more of my business, which is the only way to stop them from taking advantge of unsuspecting customers! read more

The food was fabulous! It will be hard to come to come to Tulsa and NOT eat here! An extensive menu, great and friendly service. Our server, Yuri, was friendly and attentive. The steak skillet was lovely, pancakes are delicious (light & fluffy!), the bacon/avocado omelet was killer (says my daughter-in-law), and the melt down (according to my son), is delectable! The portion sizes make it hard to clean your plate, but on the other hand, it's hard to stop eating because it tastes SO GOOD! You leave here hungry, it is your own fault! Sometimes you just gotta have comfort food. The Apple Barrel has it. My comfort food of choice is chicken fried chicken. That's what I got and it satisfied the craving. My plate contained a huge but thin slice of chicken with a thick crispy batter covered with white gravy. It barely left room on the plate for the mashed potatoes. Dan wasn't as hungry. He opted for a burger from the small meal menu. I love that they have section . We often split meals because we can't eat all of a regular meal and most places don't allow seniors to order from the children's menu. I hate left overs. Doesn't everyone? It never tastes as good reheated. The Apple Barrel has a solution for that. I was impressed by their diverse menu. You can get breakfast all day. There's some tempting things on the breakfast menu, including crepes. Monday through Friday, there's a short list of meals you can get for $16.99. Fiona was our server and gave us friendly service. You can even buy a whole pie to take home. It's been a long time since I've seen that. I had a very good Spicy Chorizo Omelette, hash-browns with grilled onions and biscuits & gravy. Waters and coffees were refilled often with frequent check-backs. Do you ever think, "I want a really good home-cooked meal but don't want to cook it"? Apple Barrel at 61st & Mingo is the place I go. We ordered breakfast & was happy to learn they serve it "ALL" day. I ordered the French Toast breakfast with egg whites & turkey bacon... every thing was great & low calorie. I don't know how you make egg whites good, but they were. My fruit bowl was fresh! My son ordered the Apple Farmers Combo & loved it all, especially the pancakes. He said they're the best he's ever had. It's clean, very friendly servers & a large TV on the wall. We will definitely be going back. NOTE* Rhonda & Samantha were our servers & we wanted for nothing. We love cafes and diners. At Apple Barrel we felt really welcome; our , waitress Rachel was really sweet and friendly. My wife had the Pecan banana pancakes and did they were really good no had a couple of bites and she was right, they were delicious. I had the Eggs Benedict and home fries. Good but not spectacular. I am more in to Mexican type food such as huevos rancheros, which they do not have. They do have a breakfast burrito and southwest omelette. They hdo have a pretty good menu to choose from. YUM! I love this classic breakfast diner with a fun breakfast bar. We went at 1pm on a Saturday, the next day at 11am, and the following Saturday at 11am; we had no wait at any time. What I Love: - Staff is always friendly and attentive. - Strong coffee and only $1.99 (unlimited). - Chicken salad is highly flavorful and sweet (had it twice). They used a hint of honey in it, which I've never had in a chicken salad and loved it. It was not overly sweet either, just right. They will serve it on lettuce if you do not want bread. It came with a few round pickle slices that were better than most pickles I've ever tasted (as a pickle fan)!! - BEST PANCAKES EVER. Pancakes are highly flavorful, and they provide ample butter on top. Soft to cut and melt in your mouth. - The skillets use home fries versus hash-browns, and the home fries are HOMEMADE potatoes versus from a frozen bag. This surprised me as I rarely see homemade home fries anywhere, and we like to visit different cafes across Tulsa. Huge bonus!!! - They offer vanilla, hazelnut, and Irish cream flavored coffee creamers. - The atmosphere is cool...it still felt old school and casual, but had a fun breakfast bar (no alcohol) to sit at besides tables and a couple of huge flat screen TVs with major games playing (NFL playoffs went I visited). - French fries were crispy and tasty. - The menus are designed like newspapers...cute! I would not recommend this place to anyone! I stopped in today for dinner, clean place nice staff, but as I sat waiting for my food I was bitten several times by flies and I mean they drew blood! I kept fighting with them as I was trying to eat! Finally I had enough and walked to the counter to pay and leave. The manager asked me how my dinner was and I flat out told him about his fly problem and is was done with trying to eat! He kept apologizing for the problem and compted my dinner. Which was good because the meat tasted very old, it wasn't fresh burger. Anyway I won't be returning to this restaurant. Just my 2 cents! read more

At the corner of 61st and Mingo in Tulsa is a small restaurant Apple Barrel. Inside you'll find good American food. A laundry list of America's standard dishes. I have yet to find any food here that I consider terrible. While I have had better individual examples of their dishes I have rarely seen a restaurant that has been as consistent across the menu with both the quality of the food and the ability make all the dishes well. The service is very friendly and professional. It is a small place with a homey feel. I recommend the Apple Barrel and we plan on returning. read more

I'm pretty sure they know me here at this point because I always order the same thing, the chicken crepes with a side of fried okra. It's a weird combination but I LOVE their chicken crepes, it used to be a dish at IHOP but then they permanently took it off their menu, pretty sure this is the only place in Tulsa you can get that dish. Is it the fastest diner I've ever been to? No. Is it understaffed? Yes. But that's not their fault. They are always incredibly kind to me and some of the waitresses already remember my order when I come in. If you want a nice, relaxed diner atmosphere with good food, this is the place to go. Unfortunately at some locations in Tulsa they close at 3PM now due to staff shortage, but the one in Broken Arrow closes at 9 I believe. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that this is for the NEW Apple Barrel Cafe location on 61st and Mingo, where the Cookhouse used to be, and before that, The Bros Houligan. Now, that said.... this place is stellar. We went in for a late lunch this last Saturday, while in the neighborhood, having wanted to try them out since they opened. Due to the time, a pretty light crowd was in the dining area, so seating was plentiful. We were cheerfully seated and given menus, with our drink order taken. Being first timers, we took a while to peruse the menu, which, while not overly large, is still able to accommodate almost any taste. The Kid went with..... wait for it...... spaghetti and meatballs. The Son went with a Chicken Fried Steak and Fries, having already had their Chicken Fried Chicken on his own (which he said was pretty much the bomb). The wife threw me a curve and chose the Philly Steak Sandwich, and I decided to live on the wild side and chose the fried cod and fries. Three of us had a side salad ahead of the entrees, which were all fresh, flavorful and well put together. As with another review, the dressing is indeed in a little cup w a lid, and it was a really good ranch. I can't say that the dressing cup was a distraction in the least. In a really short time (as in we were just finishing up the salads), our entrees arrived. The Kid's spaghetti was generous and covered with shaved parmesan... not the cardboard cheese. She pretty much loved it and said is was as good as any other place she gets spaghetti. The Son's CFS was really, really good. He offered me a bite for the sake of my review. Breading was flavorful and light, without overpowering the meat, which was a generously thick slice of really tender beef. This fries, like mine, and those in the pictures were a really unique type of fry. They were big enough to have a slightly crispy exterior, and still have plenty of fluffy, hot interior. In other words, they were pretty darn good, even if they did look different. The Wife really enjoyed her Philly, offering me a bite as well. The meat was flavorful and well seasoned, the veggies cooked perfectly. It also had a good balance of meat to bread, which is always nice. The fried cod, usually a risky proposition in Tulsa, turned out to be a well placed gamble. Thin an slightly flaky, they weren't the usual cod loins one thinks of, but rather planks of cod in a nice, well flavored batter, perfectly fried. The cole slaw side was your basic run of the mill cole slaw with nothing to really distinguish it, but seriously... it's cole slaw. Service was spot on, with our server being there when we needed her and not when we didn't. I sampled a little of everything on the table, and loved every bite. The Apple Barrel is for sure on our list of new favorites. read more

Everyone's food was excellent. Fried green tomatoes, catfish, avocado salad with a large variety of items including two different kinds of olives, apple pie (which smells heavenly). Great and friendly service, with special attention for our gluten-free son. Five star food at three star prices. Excellent all the way around. The food here at this location specifically is off the charts amazing. I'd say the Bixby one was not as good (at least pre-fire, I haven't gone back because I didn't want to get inferior food to the 61st one ). Yes, I'm a total food snob. My husband and I bring out of town friends here every time and they fall in love too! Tried probably half the things on the menu but the melt dawn, chicken or steak fried steak and our ultimate favorite the absolute perfection that is the biscuits and gravy! final thoughts-- venue is great and comfy (always packed!) and the staff is suuper friendly. The food is very good, and serving sizes are plentiful. Every Wednesday afternoon, they have a meatloaf special which is very good, served with two sides and bread. If they had a selection of 4.99 to 6.99 lunch specials, the meatloaf special is now 10.99 plus beverage ,tax and tip is almost $20 for lunch.I would definitely return a lot more often if they would lower the prices. Right now, I am returning about three times a month and enjoy my meal each time. read more

Servers were pleasant and quick speedy service, order took little longer to prepare then expected. Food was hot and perfect! Wanted to try this restaurant after seeing the new location in West Tulsa on 21st street. Was pleasantly impressed by everything. Now we've been there twice. It is very clean, waitstaff are attentive, especially Carol, and the food is great. Music is at a goo listening level, you can hear it but still hear and talk to people in your group. Noise level is very good. Understand we've only eaten breakfast there, but if that's any indication, then the rest must be cooked just as well. Eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, waffles, everything was cooked to our preference. So, shout out to the cook(s)!!! Also, to Carol who is a fantastic waitress. Ordered a burger and an Alfredo pasta a couple of days ago through DoorDash. The burger arrived but the pasta did not. Tried to reach out to the dasher but no answer, so I called the restaurant and I spoke to the manager Rhonda. I told her what happened and she let me know the dasher left in a rush before she could hand him my pasta. Even though it wasn't her fault, she sincerely apologized and offered to fix my problem. I was a tad upset but she really listened to my concern and handled it in such a professional way. I came in today to dine in and I got my pasta on the house, fresh and hot. She came by my table to apologize for the mistake again. Super sweet manager and staff! They really do care about you. read more
