I found Appease through Wedding Wire (a Yelp-like site specifically for wedding vendors), and booked them based on their reasonable prices and good reviews. I'm satisfied with my experience, although I wish a few things had been different.
Carrie (the owner) scheduled two stylists to do hair for nine people and hair and makeup for me. She was very responsive to email and answered all my questions thoroughly. The stylist that did my hair and makeup, Peggy, was wonderful as well. I had an allergic reaction to the foundation she used during my trial, but she was able to use another brand for the big day. Without sounding egotistical, I looked amazing. I would give Peggy five stars if I could.
This other hair stylist, Laura, was another story. She called me the day before the wedding and asked if she could start working at 8 a.m. instead of 8:30 as she had to "be somewhere" later in the day. I said 8:30 really worked better for us, and she testily agreed to be there at our pre-scheduled time. When she arrived, she brought a really bad attitude with her. First, she asked that we play music in our hotel room while she did the bridesmaids' hair. We had wanted to play music, which was no problem, so we turned on some upbeat Motown stuff to get us in a happy mood. She then said she didn't like the music and wanted something else. First of all, she asked for the music to be turned on. Also, as it was my wedding and a day I wanted my friends and family to enjoy, I thought it was rude to ask us to change the music. She also made snide comments to every bridesmaid she worked on, "you're hair is too thin" or "you'll never be able to wear that style." I understand that not every person has the right hair texture/length for certain styles, but she just shot everyone down instead of suggesting alternatives. She also kept mentioning that she was scheduled to do seven people while Peggy was only doing three. Sorry Laura, but that's not my problem. Peggy also volunteered to do any hair that Laura didn't have time for, so I had little sympathy for her. Finally, toward the end of her scheduled time, Laura took one of the bagels that my friend had brought for the wedding party without asking first. Only after she had eaten half the bagel did she ask if she could have it. I would have had no problem giving her a bagel, but she didn't ask first. For someone who was hired as a hair stylist, she walked around our room as if she were the bride who needed to be pampered.
In her defense, Laura did a good job on all the bridesmaids' hair. However, her bad attitude put everyone on edge. I would recommend Appease to other brides, but ask who your stylists will be before booking them. read more
