Avoid this company if you're south asian - they are frankly kind of racist. I'm Indian - went through a trial which the service was fine, although their employee was over an hour late (). However, when booking the services for our actual wedding, the experience with Carrie was awful. They wanted to charge me for the "south asian" package which included services I did not need (e.g. dupatta draping when I was going to be wearing a veil), airbrush makeup (which was not part of the trial at all, nor did I want). Despite multiple attempts to clarify that all I wanted was the simple makeup and hair package, Carrie would not budge - so I went with another company instead and 100% no regrets. They basically made it quite clear that because of my race - NOT the services I was requesting - they would be charging me more. Very disappointing. UPDATE: All I wanted was the platinum package, not the celebrity or the South Asian package. The platinum package covered the services I needed and the level of stylist I had my trial with. While a bargain is great, I'd never ever cheat someone to get it (especially if its someone's way of making a living - paying ppl for their work matters!) nor do I appreciate the implication that I would. Trying to bully a client into paying their hard earned money for services they don't want is a big red flag. We hired Appease to do hair and makeup for me (the bride), 4 bridesmaids, 2 moms, and 2 grandmas. Carrie did our hair and Male did our makeup, and they were AMAZING! Carrie and Male did a trial for me, and were totally flexible with changing a few things the day of the wedding. The wedding group included ages 16-78, waist-length hair to pixies, natural makeup looks to full glam, and they made everyone look outstanding! Carrie was also kind enough to fix my brother with up some hair gel, and Male was able to add lashes last minute for a couple of gals who didn't request them at booking. They were so upbeat throughout the whole process, starting at 6:30 AM! Not only that, my hair and makeup DID NOT BUDGE throughout the entire 18 hour day. Carrie and Male did hair and make up for me, my bridesmaids, and my family for my recent wedding and did such a wonderful job! Everyone looked beautiful and they did a great job making people feel comfortable day of (even though some family members didn't follow directions and came with wet hair, no idea what they wanted, etc). More importantly, both Carrie and Male were so sweet and supportive. We got married at the absolute peak of Omicron (not by choice, the venue wouldn't let us change the date), and between worrying about the potential for guests getting sick and receiving tons of last minute cancellations, I was an absolute wreck. Carrie and Male helped me calm down and get excited for the big day all at once and I'm so grateful to them! My only "critique" if you can call it that was that we actually ran ahead of schedule so my photographer didn't get a ton of getting ready pictures. I am very disappointed with my experience using this company. I flew in from Texas to be the Maid of Honor in my best friends wedding in November. We had a complete itinerary for the day laid out (as one does on their wedding day) including when each bridesmaid would be getting their makeup done. The morning of the wedding unfortunately took a turn for the worst when the makeup artist ran out of time to complete her services. Coming close to the time indicated that we needed to head to the church, the makeup artist still had not gotten to me, another bridesmaid, the mother of the bride, and the bride herself. The MOTB and the bride's makeup were pushed before myself and the other bridesmaid to ensure that they could be completed. Fast forward to only 30 mins remaining, the makeup artist was just getting started on the bride, so I approached her to ask if I need to start my own makeup because she was behind by 2 girls and the trolley would be here to get us soon. Upon asking that, I asked about receiving a refund if opted to do my own makeup, and she very rudely told me I was putting her behind more and that I needed to call the company to get the refund.. I then, in a panic, had to rush to do my own makeup to stand up as my best friends Maid of Honor in her wedding. The other bridesmaid was thankfully able to get her makeup done while the rest of us did our first look pictures with the bride, of which she was left out of most, and had to run into a few shots with half-done makeup :( We let a couple days pass by before reaching out to avoid stressing out the bride on her honeymoon. The bride emailed Appease explaining what had happened. The owner, Carrie, responded with no apology, and said that there were "circumstances" outside of the makeup artists control that detoured the timeline, and that there was a contract in place where it states that there are no refunds. She then offered a service credit of $100 with their company (which is less than what was paid for the service). I then reached out to advise her that I paid out of pocket to get my own hair and makeup done for this wedding, and that a service credit wouldn't be useful or practical as I live in Texas- No response since, even after many follow up emails. Obviously it's upsetting that this occurred, but it did occur to no fault of my own, and this company is not being responsive or accommodating. This really set the morning off to a stressful and disappointing start for all of us, and I would strongly advise Bride's to find another service to use for your special day. Things happen! The ONLY reason they get three stars is because of Iris. The entire process was horrid. The girls all had to pay up front, including a thirty dollar tip. The hair person sucked. I don't know her name but every single girl who had their hair done by her redid it themselves after she left. I have shoulder length hair. She literally did the back and the top was flat and loose. It was pretty ridiculous looking. A few girls even asked her to fix it and it looked worse the second time. I feel even worse as I am the one who suggested them and no one was happy except the bride and her sisters, who had Iris. Iris on her own is 5 stars. So I read a review from July 2021 about this woman Carrie that got me nervous. I booked and paid a deposit in May 2021. My wedding is October 2nd, 2021. I have not heard anything from them since May. When trying to contact them, there were no returned calls or emails. I then started messaging them on Facebook and Instagram. Carrie then stated because I didn't fill out a questionnaire, that is why there has been no communication and it was my fault . This was Thursday before Labor Day, less than 30 days away. All in all, we decided to cancel due to her attitude and lack of communication. She then responded with quite the response and called me a frantic bride! Words cannot express how grateful I am to Appease! Carrie is AMAZING! We were recommended to Appease through our wedding planner; I picked Appease because her website was clear and she was able to provide enough hair and makeup artists needed for our group of girls. I didn't have to find multiple hair and makeup artists, I was able to go through one company. The communication through Appease was top notch and fit my OCD personality :). It may be a little more costwise than other makeup artists, but remember, they come to you/your hotel and are organized and personable ... and of course, certainly know what they are doing! If you are having a South Indian wedding, I highly recommend her. Initially, I was hesitant not to use an Indian hair and makeup artist, but now I couldn't imagine not using Carrie. She knew exactly how to do a traditional South Indian braid (to fulfill my mom's detailed wishes!), complete with jasmine and artificial hair. She was able to give me a soft, yet glamorous make up look for my ceremony and a dramatic change for the reception. I wasn't sure about my reception hair trial, but Carrie made a recommendation to wear my hair down last minute change and I ended up LOVING my looks. It's weird to see bad reviews on here and then for me to follow up with a good review, but here goes: I hired Appease to do my wedding reception makeup for July 22, 2017. My husband and I were already married in Florida in April in a small ceremony, but we were throwing a larger celebration party for our friends and family back home and I wanted to look nice while wearing my wedding dress again. Despite my slightly short notice (2 months), they were able to accommodate me and the services I required (a half up half down hair style with help placing in clip in extensions). I had no other family or friends getting hair or makeup done with me. Communication with Appease was pretty good and they were able to answer all of my questions up until the event date, and to keep me up to date on who my stylist was and what time they would be arriving. I had no issues there. Laura was my stylist and she arrived promptly at my house and despite an awkward start (walking up three floors in Chicago summer heat is exhausting while carrying two large bags full of equipment), she got right to work on my makeup and did it FLAWLESSLY. I never looked so good in my life, aside from my actual wedding. She styled my hair just the way I wanted, and she had no issues putting in hair extensions. We chatted nicely about our cats, and crazy wedding stories we had both witnessed. I looked amazing during my reception. My skin was positively glowing and I couldn't be happier. I am indifferent about the rating because my frustration with these services is not directed at my hair and makeup artist. Amanda and Molly did an amazing job with the girls they worked on. My frustration is with management and the third filler artist hired to help get everyone ready on time. Back in February I reached out to Appease looking into their service. Within email communication the owner Carrie stated multiple times that the Flower Girl would get her hair done for free since she was two and did not have a lot of hair. Up until April there were emails stating the services and people who would need each. When this information was translated to a schedule the Flower Girl was left off. During my trial I was told not to worry because she would fill in since her hair would be quick. The day of the wedding the third stylist insisted on charging $40 for the Flower Girl. After two hours of conversation I stated that it was fine I would talk to the owner on Monday for a refund. While I was getting my hair done the stylist was talking to the flower girls mother about the charge and not to worry. When the stylist went to leave she came in to say good bye. Since the conversation for 2 hours resulted in me saying I would pay I told her my bridesmaid had her cash for the flower girl. The hair stylist said thank you no worries and left seeking out my bridesmaid and taking the $40. When I called Carrie for a refund she stated that it would not be given because she was not on the schedule so I had to pay. When I further pressed the matter she stated the following "the hair stylist said it was. Fine and you gave her the money anyway. That's on you and your choice if anything it could be a tip". This is terrible customer service. I told Carrie that the hair stylist should be communicating with the person who signed and paid the contract. Talking with a third party person about cost when the bride is paying is inappropriate. It got to the point where the only reason she was handed cash the day of was so that the situation could resolve so I could focus on all the other things a bride focuses on the day of their wedding. If you tell a client a service will be free you should not go back on your word let alone turn blame. I also told Carrie that members of the bridal party have been trying to contact for a trial since the end of March. It took multiple tries and voicemails before the bridesmaids were given a date a week before the wedding. Carrie became very unprofessional on the phone with me in regards to these complaints. $40 isn't a big deal in the scheme of the bill but it's about principle. I wish we had a better experience with Appease during our wedding weekend. They were impossible to get a hold of (via phone and email) leading up to the wedding. We had specifically given them our timeline as to when we would have our morning pictures and had asked for extra help. They declined to give us extra help (we even told them we'd pay for it) and as a result, our pictures could not be taken as everything was delayed by an hour! I thought that the prices for bridesmaids were reasonable compared to other vendors. They also have promotional discounts for booking early or off-peak weddings. Carrie was very professional in terms of setting everything up. She came up with a schedule for hair and makeup and was accommodating when I wanted to tweak it. I felt that they were both able to listen to recommendations as provided or figure out a good look for my bridesmaids who had no idea what direction to go in for hair or makeup. My wedding was in Indiana and they accommodated this with no problem whatsoever. They even arrived earlier than us!!! I also did a hair and makeup change and Iris was able to accomplish it in such a small amount of time!! They were also very prompt with my lengthy schedule of girls that had to be ready. They got approx 9 girls ready in record timing. I even had one of my girls tell me that she's never felt so beautiful until she met Myriam. Myriam did an amazing job with all the girls as did Iris. Honestly, I am so sad to be leaving this review. Carrie and her team did my sister's wedding in November of 2016. Things went so well that we knew we wanted them for my wedding in April of this year. I wish we didn't make that mistake as no bride wants the experience that I had. I couldn't help but cry on both days as my hair and makeup had been so bad. On day 1, the original hair stylist just never showed. Carrie sent a sub and didn't tell anyone. I don't even think the makeup artist knew. We had 4 stylists, 2 at each location, and she sent the sub to the location with the bride. The sub had no idea what the schedule was and ran extremely behind. She took her sweet time because no one told her. Also, she had 0 skill when it came to updos or even curling. Just an overall shitshow. I had to call Carrie multiple times to find out what was going on before she finally answered and told me the original hair stylist had a medical emergency. I completely understood, but why wouldn't you send the bride the more experienced hairstylist and why wouldn't you ensure the sub knew the schedule? Just horrible horrible horrible. On the second day, the lady who was doing makeup barely covered up any of my scars. Mind you, this was a different lady from the first day. It was like we had no make up on. At least the hair stylist on the second day knew what she was doing. Now, before you say, "Oh you should have gotten a trial." How would that have mattered when I was sent a substitute. My mother-in-law and bridesmaids and myself all remade our hair. It was horrendous and a complete waste of money. It took more than a week to get in touch with Carrie to talk to her about my experience. Honestly, I wanted some money back. She obviously wouldn't give that to me. So she offered me free hair and makeup for a photo shoot. I texted her in August that I'm expecting and I'd love to have her do my hair and makeup for a maternity shoot. She said she was booked up until 1/8/22. I said no problem, we'll do it when you're available. 2 stars for 2 of the 3 stylists/artists that were sent out (they were amazing). Negative stars for customer service after the event and the 1 stylist all the bridesmaids were hoping they weren't scheduled with. Appease was booked for 6 bridesmaids and bride at a Chicagoland wedding. One of the stylists/artist had all her guests removing their make up and redo-ing their hair; while one of the bridesmaids opted to not get her make up done by said stylist based on what she had seen the other bridesmaids go through and do her make up herself. Customer service won't refund the money for the bridesmaid that opted to not get her make up done by the stylist. Appease was paid for all other services completed even though some of it wasn't done to satisfaction. All that was asked for was a refund for the ONE make up service that was refused by the bridesmaid based on the experiences of the others. Is that really an ethical way to conduct a business? Such a shame Appease can't and won't go the extra mile to please all their customers. read more

I feel bad for the other brides who had negative experiences with Appease because mine was positive. I would definitely use them again (although let's hope this was my one and only wedding!). I found Appease on Wedding Wire and chose them because they had an image portfolio available and a ton of positive reviews - on Wedding Wire. Clearly not on Yelp. I also liked that they come to you for the trial and the wedding because it eliminated a variable from an otherwise hectic day. I didn't like that I had to pay $50 for a trial run, which I consider necessary. And a 20% tip is included in the bill. That seems a bit presumptuous to me. I had to put down a $75 deposit beforehand, so I had invested $75 (out of a $564 total bill) without the benefit of a trial run. But I guess that's not too out of the ordinary because otherwise brides could waste the stylists' time without any compensation. I selected the "platinum" package and Carla was my assigned stylist. I had airbrush makeup and my hair done, and my 5 bridesmaids had their hair done. Carla has 10 years' experience doing hair and makeup and was wonderful. She responded to all my emails promptly and professionally. Appease has you send in pictures of yourself and pictures of hairstyles you like before your trial, which was nice. Carla bent over backwards trying to create a hairstyle I requested at my trial even though my hair ended up being too short for it to really work. She stayed until we got my hair how I liked it, even though it was late at night on a week day. On the day of my wedding, Carla showed up on time, along with her sister. Both did a wonderful job. I asked that she do a few things differently from the trial run for both my hair and makeup and she seamlessly made the changes. We hadn't originally planned to have one bridesmaid's hair done but added her in at the last minute without problems. They brought books of pictures and were able to recreate the hair styles in the images my bridesmaids selected. While getting my hair done, I asked about the negative reviews about "Laura." I was told that she was asked to leave the company because customer satisfaction is everything to them. I was happy with how I looked. I was happy with Carla and her sister (whose name I can't remember for the life of me). My bridesmaids were happy. This review is LONG overdue! My sister found Appease for her wedding in 2011 from her friend who also booked Laura and got married a couple months before my sister. Laura did an EXCELLENT job with hair and airbrush makeup for my sister, my mom (just makeup), and for me (both). At the time of my sister's wedding, she was able to have a trial session for both her wedding hair and makeup, which was great; however, the policy changed when I booked. I was so impressed with my sister's wedding hair and makeup that I wanted to book Laura again for a wedding, which was last year in June. I was only able to get one hair and makeup trial so I picked the one for the reception; the hairstyle didn't look that great so she came back and redid it which was nice and I ended up liking it a lot. For the wedding, my sister got hair and airbrush makeup, my mom got airbrush make up, and I got hair and airbrush make up, of course. However, for my mom and sister, the makeup was very heavy and they ended up wiping some of it off because it was too intense. I thought mine was overpowering for the wedding but Laura toned it down and lightened my lips with gold, instead of a reddish/pink-I was wearing Indian clothes and did not want to look too crazy with bright makeup. I thought my makeup was fine for the wedding and LOVED the makeup for the reception because it was more sexy (haha), but of course that would not be good for the wedding. Overall, though, the pictures turned out really well and I liked how I looked for those :) However, for hair, Laura is EXCELLENT! I liked my reception hair more than my wedding hair, but that is because I am not a huge fan of buns and we tried out the reception hair for my trial so I made sure that style looked good. Both styles looked great, though, and really complimented both of my outfits. My sister's hair was modeled off of an Indian actress' hairdo and it looked amazing! (wish I picked that hehe). Overall, Laura rocks and is really sweet and down-to-earth. She has done all types of weddings (including Indian weddings), which is helpful and she knows what she is doing. I prefer less intense (typical) dark/bright makeup with Indian outfits, so I made sure to let her know since most Indian brides tend to like this. I was pleased, especially after seeing the pictures. As an artist, I've had my hair and makeup done more than a few times. This is to give you some background. The two stars are for Iris (I would technically give her 5 if she had her own page because she is a rockstar), otherwise I wouldn't give Appease any stars. All in all, I felt Appease had no sense of organization, professionalism, communication, or integrity for a stressful season in a girl's life. 1. Just an FYI, prior to booking with Appease, I spent about fifteen minutes trying to gather Pinterest photos or past photos of myself because they asked for them. I emailed them in to Carrie/Monica. Throughout the process of working with Appease, no one referred to my emailed photos, and I was continuously asked to show photos of my hair and makeup that I wanted for the wedding day. Make a Pinterest board of what you want, and be prepared to whip it out several times. 2. They were not very responsive as it grew closer to the wedding. I started looking for other salons at that point. I was so nervous they wouldn't show on my wedding day. The date Appease gave me to pay them by was Sept 4. You'd assume the payment information would be sent at least a week in advance, particularly because it was written in their own contract... However, it was sent to me Sept. 6 ONLY because I made several calls - leaving voicemails, emails, and finally had to reach out to Iris through Instagram and ask her to contact her management. She was kind enough to do so. On Sept. 6 at 11pm, which is basically three days after the payment was due, Monica emailed she would charge the card on file (NOW) without me having real time to review the schedule and what I'm being charged for... A few days before my wedding, I was told Iris had broken her wrist so I would possibly be sent a different makeup artist. I sympathized as she's a really talented makeup artist. It's okay, I'll deal... On the day of the wedding, anyone could tell the replacement artist's caliber was not the same of that of Iris'. She was really nice and did her best to accommodate, but her style was not the same as what I had experienced at my trial - which was unfortunate because I had paid for a wedding trial. My bridesmaids were not very happy with how their makeup turned out either. She used the same tone of airbrush foundation on all of us. Doesn't really make sense for four different girls... 4. Lastly, my flower girls were supposed to have an appointment at the Drytini location in Lombard at noon. We had conversed about it in email at least three different times. The day of, my brother in law and cousin went to the salon with the girls and were told there had been NO NEWS about two flower girls coming in to get their hair and makeup done. There was apparently NO COMMUNICATION between Carrie and the front desk. My family was treated rudely and was told that they would be charged if we hadn't paid in advance. This made me livid. Not only was it a disruption in my day, it upset my matron of honor as they're her little girls!! They ended up only getting their hair done when the schedule clearly stated BOTH hair and makeup for $35. Management, please learn to be clearer in your communication. If I could change one thing about my wedding day, I would've booked my hair and makeup with a salon that cares about their clientele. Brides beware; please be forewarned prior to booking. read more

Carrie was amazing! When I went to the salon for my trial, I explained that I wanted my makeup to be somewhat natural. I don't wear makeup on a day-to-day basis so I didn't want the difference to be too drastic. I also explained that my hair does NOT stay up so I wanted my hairstyle to be low, at the base of my neck, and to be loose and look alright when it started to fall out. Carrie exceeded my expectations! My makeup was breathable and beautiful and my hair was perfect! It did start to fall out (as I expected) but the style Carrie chose hid the fact that it was falling very well. You can't tell in any photos that it had started to fall. Additionally, all of my bridesmaids are very different and had different ideas for how they wanted their hair done. Carrie was very accommodating and exceeded all of our expectations. Had a pretty good experience with Appease. 4 1/2 stars from me! I didn't want to stress too much for my wedding and finding hair and makeup people separately was starting to become a pain in the butt. I randomly found Appease on Wedding Wire (a cross between Knot.com and Yelp for everything bridal). Most of the reviews were good, but for me the biggest plus was that this was a one stop shop. They did hair, nails, everything. Yes, it was a little pricey but not any more than finding these two services separately. I even decided to splurge on myself and got the Blushing Bride package which included a massage and mani/pedi. How awesome was it for me that day to totally get pampered before jumping on the trolley for wedding activities?! Carla helped set me up with everything and was on the whole quite responsive to my inquiries which made me feel better about choosing them. I liked that they come to you for the trial. Had my trials with Carrie (hair) and Jenessa (makeup) all in the comfort of my mom's house. I am not all too particular so I liked that my makeup looked natural enough and they were able to work with my usually stick straight hair. I was able to ask the bridesmaids ahead of time what services they wanted and we ended up taking care of everything up front. For the most part everyone's hair and those that did makeup looked great. Sandy is awesome. She was attentive and listened to all my maid's feedback. I loved my hair and make-up. I looked exactly as I wanted: a fancy version of myself. Not only does she awesome beauty skills, she was incredibly calming during quite a few hectic moments on my big day. I used Appease for my wedding at the beginning of October. We were scheduled to have 5 bridesmaids, 3 flower girls, mother of bride, mother of groom, one additional friend, and me. I went for my trial hair and makeup in July with Carrie, and she did an excellent job. I sent her pictures of what I liked, and she did a great job matching the pictures. However, my hair is super thick and long, so my hair was falling down a couple hours after the trial. I emailed them about it and they said they would use more pins and hair spray on the Big Day. Before the Big Day arrived, I found a different hair style that would work better with my heavy, thick hair. Carrie did an awesome job doing it that day, and my hair stayed in place the entire night, despite it being a crazy windy day. Carrie and Amanda were both skilled and friendly. All of the girls looked amazing, hair and makeup. They started 30 minutes late (I think there was miscommunication since our schedule changed a couple times) but we were all still ready to go, looking beautiful, on time. I had Carrie do my hair and makeup for my baby shower. I am Indian, so she had to work in my jewelry (headpiece-one side Tikka) into my hairstyle. She did a great job with my hair and I received many compliments. I was a bit nervous about getting my make up done as I am a bit picky with it and have hard time trusting others to do it. Carrie was a great listener and did my make up per my style. I was very happy with her services and would highly recommend her. I have gotten my hair done with her 3 times as a bridesmaid as well. I'm a little surprised that there are some bad experiences here...it's too bad because my experience was wonderful! I'd definitely work with Appease again. My wedding was this past October and everything ran so smoothly. My stylist, Laura, came to my house for the trial run. She listened to what I had to say, looked at some pictures and then gave me her opinion on what would work best. It was a bit of a bummer that there was a charge for this, but I understand why with an in-home service. Laura also subbed out my make-up trial for a hair trial for my mother, which was nice of her. We were all getting ready at a hotel downtown (Hotel 71...also great, see my other review!) and Laura and her assistant showed up right on time and ready to get down to business. I had 4 bridesmaids, 2 mothers, 1 sister-in-law and 2 rambunctious flower girls. They did great work all around and were very open to making changes. One of my bridesmaid's wasn't to sure about the end result, and Laura re-did it until she was happy. My make-up was a little dark to start, so we wiped it and started again and it came out perfect. I had a great experience, and the fees were reasonable when you consider the convenience factor. We were able to relax and enjoy the morning in the hotel suite rather than trooping off to the salon. OK! this is way over due September 18, 2010 was the wedding day. i honestly loved my hair and make up. I don't think anyone could have done it better. But my mom's and brides maids, probably there goes only about 1 or 2 stars. My mom ended up doing her own her after the ceremony. Carla did a great job, but it seemed that the girls who came with her to help did not know much about hair or/and make up. I would recommend this again, but just for the bride, not for the wedding party. read more
