I new to the Bangladeshi food scene in Montreal. When I discovered Appayon I was truly excited to try it out-as it one of the first trending restaurants of its type. More fast food styled, the walls are painted green with the color scheme of the Bangladeshi flag. I was surprised with how affordable everything was! I ordered their weekly house special (changes every week) that cake with a chicken liver curry, egg plant curry, salad, a fish potato kebab and rice for under 13$. The food was plenty for 2 of us! I loved how the dishes weren't too spicy for my taste that I ate all my food. Service is spot on, staff is so friendly and amiable. I really love this spot. If you want some authentic cuisine / you have to try out this Bangladeshi staple !

Decent value but every dish was too oily for my tastes. Don't tell the US about this place or they'd invade it.

I haven't had proper Bangladeshi food about 10 years till tonight. I felt I was in my Nani's…read more(grandma) home. The restaurant itself is gorgeous with basic colors of white, red and black, with two stunning chandeliers. There are 3 big TVs with Bangladeshi programs, which are negative distractions to the beautiful decor. The washrooms are also very modern looking. We were welcomed enthusiastically by Raiyan. He was friendly, helpful, polite and efficient host and waiter. He explained the menu in details. Starters: Dal puri (flatbread stuffed wth cooked lentils), shahi jhal muri (puffed rice, chickpeas, tomatoes, coriander, onions, mustard oil and spices) and fuchka (pani puri). Main dishes: chicken roast with rice and eggs, ilish fish with onions curry and rice, beef boti kebab, meznabi beef curry, parathas, grilled tilapia and 4 types of bhortas (tomatoes, eggplants and two kinds of dry fish). Desert: everything milk based: kalajam, chomchom, sweet yogurt, malai curry and malai cha (boiled milk black tea). Each dish were presented beautifully. Each dishes were delicious to perfection. The winners of this menu are dal puri and grilled tilapia. This restaurant is opened for 3 months, and it has great potential to make it big. I highly recommended this place for its beauty, service, delicious food.

This was the worst meal of our trip and I LOVE bengali food. My husband picked this place hoping to…read moretry something different than the standard Punjabi and South Indian food. There was no fish except for baked tilapia. No fuchka. The mutton kachi Biryani smelled great, but did not have much of a flavor. The beef kabab was good, but the beef curry was extremely oily. The luchi and dal Puri weren't good either. The luchi was like heavy fried dough and the daal Puri barely had any filling. The server, a lady was very nice. Not sure it was worth going out of our way to try.

Previously called Dhera, this place was bought out and renamed "Chez Maharani". I love the location conveniently situated on the Hipster St. Denis strip, as there aren't a lot of good Indian food stops on this area. Menu: you can dine in or have food to go. There are combos starting at 10$. We got to try an open buffet style - with a few of their selections, note house chef was away so review may not be accurate : Starters: mango lassi (4/5) really enjoyed this drink - wasn't too heavy on the yogurt either; fish pakoras (3/5) - very tender, lightly spiced batter served with a side of spice mayo; Main course :biryani (3/5) I liked how it wasn't too heavy on the ghee; potato puri (5/5)- delish! ; daal (4/5)- had a sweet spicy kick to it ; mixed vegetable "Sabji" (3/5)-cauliflower, cabbage, onions, potato (I usually don't like cauliflower but I actually cleaned my plate off); beef curry (5/5)- it was sauteed with peppers, very tender - not too spicy - meat melted off the bone; chicken curry (4/5) similar the the beef curry with peppers but I enjoyed the beef more. Dessert: gulab jamun honey balls (6/5) I overdosed on the sweetness, had to limit myself to one to be healthy ; rice tapioca (4/5) worked really nicely with the gulab jamun to balance out the sweetness. Service: great, minus the fact students work here - that always appear confused when serving food. We got a tour of the venue, highlight being the backyard 2 floored terasse - gorgeous for the summer if they upgrade their bar. The owner mentioned there is a lot of work to be done to the venue, looking forward to what's to come!

The food and tea took forever to come out.. as there were many guests and only one server for everyone. Food in terms of taste was mediocre. Would not come back to this restaurant again.
