So I called them today bc I figured out I had exhaust gas coming from around the top of the hot water heater. To my surprise they actually were able to send someone out within a few hours. That was great. The tech shows up and I show him my issue and before he even starts to explain what the options are he says that he can see what the issue is and he's going to have to Red Tag me by law and shut my water heater off. I'm technically inclined and I know this is not as big a deal as he's making it out to be so I'm like whatever man.... Do what you have to do. He explained that once it's shut off that since my heater is 11 years old that it may not come back on at all bc older gas heaters have a tendency to not want to re-light. Again, I'm like OK.... But thinking to myself that this guy's just full of crap. So he looks at it and proceeds to tell me EXACTLY what is wrong with it and what it would take to fix it but he's al the while strongly recommending that I replace the entire unit. So we go upstairs where he has signal on his tablet, he makes a phone call to his office out of earshot from me outside. When he comes back in he has 2 proposals for us. Replace the flue from the water heater to where it goes up through the basement ceiling with a double-wall flue and straighten out the kink in the line that's causing the actual backup of exhaust gasses, OR replace the whole water heater. Here's where it gets good. I called these guys and was thrilled they could look at it right away and I suspected the flue pipe was the issue to start with but wanted a professional's opinion since we're dealing with CO here. I was fully prepared to grab the checkbook and stroke a check for maybe $300 for the new pipe and labor.... Keep in mind that the pipe was fully accessible and there were only 2 screws holding the whole thing to the water heater as it is so it's NOT big labor job. Maybe 15 minutes AT MOST. He hands me the tablet and they're asking for $1031.00 for the pipe replacement option. To make matters more insulting, the other proposal was for almost $5000 for a new water heater. I very politely explained to him that I don't fault him for this but that the prices are ridiculous given what I know the materials would cost. I estimated in my head real fast that it would be about $40 in pipe... I was WAY off.... I had to go to Menard's later and it was actually $12.97 for the pipe and $3.50 for the metal strapping to secure it. Needless to say, we also declined the exorbitant price for a new water heater as well since our works just fine. I priced once of those out while he was standing there for $1250 at Home Depot. Granted there would be more labor, but almost $4k worth of labor for an hour or 2 job.... NO! At this point he explained that he still needed to red tag the system. He went back down to the basement, wrote up the red tag and attached it to the gas pipe and then turned the gas off. He MIGHT have made it out of the street before I was back in the basement, had removed the pipe from the water heater, twisted it such that the kink was no longer present in the metal pipe, reattached it to the water heater and performed a smoke test to ensure that gasses were in fact flowing up the flue. I think the whole process took me 15 minutes with no parts. I do still need to attach the steel strapping and will be doing that as soon as I complete this posting. That cost me $3.50 and should take about 5 minutes to install. Were they professional, yes. Prompt, yes. Knowledgeable, yes. But.... none of that makes up for the fact that they are also predatory in their practices. Given me the whole red-tag spiel was fine but it's a scare tactic, as well as telling me the water heater might not re-light. Of course it re-lit. I had the gas back on and the thing making water hot before his ass could sit in his van. BUYER BEWARE with this company. I hate to think of how many people that are not as knowledgeable about such topics as I am get taken down the river for thousands of dollars by these guys, and in my case, needlessly. I fixed my entire problem for $3.50 and about a total of 30 minutes of my time where the LEAST they wanted to charge me was $1031.00. When they called me later in the day asking how the service call was I did no hold back and told them that the company was NUTS for what they were charging for this repair. The guy asked me "Did you have a budget in mind?", meaning that they have A LOT of leeway to change the prices if they feel like it. He walked into my fully and freshly remodeled home and though he has an easy mark. I haven't remodeled my entire home by being foolish with my money. And Apollo has earned a place on my black list of vendors... They will not darken my doorstep ever again. read more

Just before Christmas (the 23rd, to be exact), I was having an issue with my main sewer line backing up. I called that morning and had a crew out that afternoon to auger. Unfortunately, the problem was just too big for the auger and they were out the next day (Christmas Eve) to run the Hydrojet through the line. Again, they reached a point to where the risk of going forward was just too great and we backed off while I still had at least a little running water to get us through the holiday weekend. Had the county out the next week to confirm that the line wasn't collapsed and Apollo was out at my earliest convenience to finish the job. Overall, they took the time to explain every step of the process and let me "oversee" the progress on the camera feed they had in the line so that I had a better idea of the problems in the sewer line. They gave quotes on the labor before performing any work, they didn't charge anything to come out and give the quote (rare, in their business), and they offered suggestions and pricing for future preventative measures. The guys were nice, kept the mess to a minimum considering the work that was being done and all the work came with a 12 month warranty. They even helped me get credit and special financing to cover the expense...which brings me to my only negative about the experience...the cost. I understand that what they do is specialized and they have a lot of cool equipment that I'm sure isn't cheap but I was a little surprised at how much the Hydrojet process cost. For me, the 100' of auger was just over $150. The Hydrojet was an additional $1100 and change and whatever the city is going to charge me for the roughly 1000 gallons of water used in the process. But don't get me wrong, the Hydrojet does a pretty amazing job and I'm sure their competitor's pricing is in the same ballpark for the same process...I guess I just didn't realize how expensive plumbing repairs cost nowadays. In any case, it's still cheaper than having raw sewage flow into my finished lower level so, I can't complain too much. Just be warned that, if you ever need this to be done in your home, it's going to cost a decent chunk of change. read more

Alex A. came to do a furnace tune-up at my house. Before I get started let me say this is NOT my first time working with Apollo. I have previously used their plumbing services of which I would give them 3.5-4.0 stars simply because they followed-up and made several attempts to fix the problem but were unsuccessful after three tries. I recently purchased my home and had no idea that a furnace tune-up had been prepaid by the previous owners but Apollo kept contacting me to let me know I had this service (definitely a big star for Apollo there). I had to cancel my first appointment last minute but Apollo was totally fine with that and worked with me to reschedule. I was given about a 20 minutes heads-up phone call and when I told them I might not be back to my house right at the start time they told me, "no worries...we will inform the technician to wait". Rarely do I hear that any more! As for the technician, Alex A. did a great job! I am a very technically curious person (read: engineer) so I looked over his shoulder the entire time. He was not at all annoyed and took the time to walk me through all the pieces of the furnace, explain how everything worked, common problems that people see and service calls he gets, how to work through them, how to properly shutdown the furnace in the event of an emergency, and even looked at some of my duct work and helped me find a few places where I could improve my flow. All in all, a great technician with great knowledge. Overall I was happy with this experience with Apollo. I will say that after the plumbing experience I was a bit weary but Apollo has moved back up in my book. Still not a five-star company yet but I would say they are definitely pushing four stars. read more

I have found the technicians courteous and friendly when they have come to our condo for repairs, but I have had serious problems with the quality of their work. This year I have paid almost $9000 for a new furnace and A/C system. When the furnace was replaced, the ductwork that was constructed was not sealed and was leaking badly. Had to call them back to seal it up. After the A/C system was replaced a few months later I had the same problem. Even worse, the back-side panel of the ductwork inside the closet was completely left off! The only reason this was discovered was because they had also neglected to install a drain pain and float switch below the unit. The entire unit had to be removed to install the drain pan per the city inspector's requirements, and that's when the missing ductwork was discovered. After the unit was replaced and the ductwork was constructed properly, the unit ran exactly two days and then quit cooling. A technician came out and found the freon level low. He recharged it, but I am still waiting to see if this is leaking and will happen again. I have a service contract with these folks but am seriously considering canceling. read more

I had a 23 year old hot water heater which suddenly sprang a leak in my condo. The first couple places I called could not come out for a week. I called Apollo and they had someone out to give an estimate within an hour, and then sent out someone to do the installation within two hours after that. It was not very simple since the gas lines had to be re-routed and because of code updates new shut off valves had to be done to the furnace as well. Apollo is definitely more expensive than a lot, but I have found them to be incredibly reliable. They come when they say they will come, and are careful. The installation was very clean (better than the previous one), and the young guy they sent to do the installation was extremely careful. The gas shut off in the basement probably had not been closed for 20 years, I bet. He was very careful not to over-torque the fitting and had to soak with WD40 for a while before it closed properly. He stayed until the job was done at 830 pm. I could not have asked for better or quicker service. If you are looking for something done cheaply, Apollo is not the place, but they do exactly what they say they will do. read more

The Apollo team was amazing. It is not too often you get great customer service these days. They're a team of absolute pros. A horrible situation with no heat on the coldest day of the year turned into my best customer experience in years. My family is very thankful that they came to our rescue. We lost heat on a snowy Sunday. We quickly learned a repair was going to be pointless, and we would need a new furnace. Mark, a comfort specialist, was nice enough to brave the snowy roads to set a plan for a new install. Mark was thorough, honest, and caring He showed real integrity and respect during the sales process. The next morning, Ernie and Joel were right on time for installation. Within hours, a new furnace and AC were installed. By the afternoon, we had heat. Ernie and Joel were very courteous professionals. I was a customer for over 20 years. I always had good service, other than having to fend off sales tactics to sell me a new furnace & a/c. I sold my home and cancelled my maintenance agreement Apr-3. On Apr-25, the monthly charge came out of my bank account. I called, was promised they'd correct it and refund the money. Nothing more from them, May-25, another payment charged. More phone calls and emails, they're oh so sorry, a refund check is in the mail. July 1, the USPS scan of mail shows a check was mailed to my old address, even after I gave the new one to the person on the phone and in my emails. July 11, the check hasn't been forwarded and no one is responding to my emails. It's not the money now, it's the principle. They're blaming people working from home during the quarantine, but I'm not impressed. Just refund the money, 4+ months is long enough to straighten out your working from home. I'm working from home as are a lot of other people, but we're all trying to do our best. read more

When he arrived, I handed him our house floorplans and he already had them. He was very prepared. Our team of Jon, Mike, and Dustin were very professional, courteous and efficient. Our 40 year old furnace was replaced and central air conditioning installed all in one day. They spent almost 12 hours to get the job finished including running additional ductwork to a room without a vent and updating electric to handle the additional HVAC. Micah explained all of the costs, so there were no surprises. He arrived with all of the permits the day of service, checked on the crew and returned later in the day to check their progress. I have been getting great service from Apollo for 10 years. I moved in January and this was their first visit to my new home to inspect my furnace. Wes did a great job helping me understand the new furnace and showing the best settings for the humidifier. He took the time to color in the letters for damper settings on the humidifier with a black pen so they would be easier to read. He explained that one of the capacitors for the fan motor was showing some age, but that I could probably get more time out of it. I asked about some options for filters like the ones I had enjoyed in my previous home. In a very low pressure manner, he walked me through the latest options and presented me with a written estimate of the costs for each option. Fan-Freaking-Tastic!!!. Apollo saved the day. We did not lose power from the ice storm of November 15, 2018, but we did have a large limb tear off the power utility service line to our house; not good. I called Apollo thinking I would need to be on a waiting list for service as to be expected with the ice storm; Nope, not with Apollo, we had a technician that afternoon! Technician Ash Ward was professional, honest, and to the point. The repairs were done in about two hours. We have used Apollo prior, our tankless water heater failed. In that situation, we had Ron Reis as our technician, and again, the issue was corrected and repaired same day. I'll be honest, Apollo is a bit pricier than the other service companies in town, but Apollo shows up, and gets it done same day, no shenanigans , very professional. Just when I thought things could not get stranger with them. A month after they missed an appointment they called me back and asked if my pipe was still leaking because they wanted to replace it. Now you don't have to be a genius to figure that one out, do you? A day late and a dollar short as the old saying goes to say the least. The day of the missed appointment I called a friend who got the job done. If I had waited a month I am guessing my house would have floated away or I would have drowned or something terrible like that, If only they had shown that much concern at the beginning. My sense is that they are a victim of their own success and the proverbial right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. Maybe I will try them again in the future. ****Buyer Beware**** I learned the hard way that this company quotes extremely high prices and expects you to negotiate the price down. Do not make the same mistake I did and waste your hard earned money. I paid $5800 for a new water heater from Apollo and later learned I paid waaay too much. If I would have taken the time to get another quote I could have saved a couple thousand dollars. Not only did I pay too much for the water heater, Apollo also wanted to charge me $2100 for a drain rebuild in my kitchen (separate job). Thank goodness I got another quote. I ended up paying around $500 for the same drain rebuild through Dupps Plumbing. Dupps Plumbing is an honest company that gave me a fair quote up front and did a fantastic job. He also did a really good job spending the time with us to go over all the features of our new unit and thermostat. Apollo has always been great! Michael arrived to determine our clog drain issue and efficiently and meticulously cleared the clog. He also explained what he was looking for and provided us a product that is stronger than what you can get at the local stores and shared where we can find it to use for prevention of the problem again. Very friendly, courteous and careful to make sure there was no mess and everything was tight and not leaking when put pipes back together. A very knowledgeable young man who did a fabulous job. And the cost was reasonable too. Expected to cost us a lot more but the final cost was a pleasant surprise. Service at a reasonable price is always a plus. Will use them again if the need arises. On 8/20, Josh Nunez came to clear a clogged drain line in the basement. A prior plumber thought he had cleared it, but it continued to back up and we called Apollo to have a go at it. Josh did an outstanding job of not only clearing the clog, but also taking additional steps to clear all the remaining sludge from the line. That line has probably not been that clean for years. Then with his tv camera, he went down the line from start to finish to be sure all was clear. That step also showed some possible future problem areas due to roots and root balls near the end of the line. He discussed the various options to solve the problem. Brandon could not have been more professional polite and helpful than he was. While the initial service call didn't fix the problem, Brandon sent out Danny a specialist to put a camera through the sewer line and we then discovered our problem. To my amazement he was able to push the object out of the sewer line and fix our problem. From my previous experience with other companies they would have tried to take advantage of me and charge me for things I didn't need. These two men, Brandon and Danny are top-notch service guys, extremely professional, polite and very helpful. I could not be a more satisfied customer.
