Great food at reasonable prices. I'd say it's the best Greek food in town. It's the only place where I've seen Pastitsio (Greek Lasagna), and it's excellent. So was the rice I had with it. The rice flavored with tomato sauce and cinnamon was fantastic. My husband enjoyed his Spanakopita and potatoes with their hint of lemon. The attention to detail and the flavors the cooks bring out in all their dishes comes shining through. The service is great. The quality and taste of the food was as good or better than anything we tasted when we visited Athens last year. We drove from the near Northwest side and felt it was well worth the 20 minute trip, a trip we plan to make again in the near future. read more

Im like addicted to this place. I might be pregnant, I might not, but the intense cravings I have for this chicken souvlaki place is just crazy. I spend money that I don't have here because it's just so good. My friend is from Greece and even she thought it looked good from just the pictures I sent her. The yogurt like sauce (I don't know what it is) is special. I love to French the chicken in it with a bunch of lemon. The pita bread is the perfect consistency. Also I love the little side of pepperoncini. I take a bite out of the pepper and make sure the acidic vinaigrette juice spills over the chicken so it complements the sauce that I drown it in. Apollo Cafe is a sudden change of pace from the fast and loud bars on Brady. The high high blue and wispy ceiling may make you think you're on an adventure, at least for a moment. The menu is has many appetizers and sides. In addition to the Greek food they have more American options. On Fridays they have a baked and fried fish fry. The "sandwiches/plates" and just different entrees. The plates come with rice pilaf and cost $4 more. You can upgrade the rice to a salad for $2. We got a chicken souvlaki one sandwich and one plate. It didn't really seem worth getting the plate. The service was good, quick. They gave a squeeze tube of tzatziki sauce. Was good for price but hard to distinguish from other gyro places. read more

I've been here before and rated it a bit below Oakland gyros which is the best in town. Unfortunately, I would STILL RATE IT BELOW OAKLAND GRYOS. I got the gyro platter and i will say the gravy is more tasty than OG's but their gyro is a bit thicker and heavier to eat. It isn't as moist as OG's and makes you need a few cups of water to eat it all. Since it was so heavy, it was hard to eat all of it without feeling full and heavy the rest of the night. The price is a bit cheaper for the gyro platter at 8.50$ where OG's platter is 9.80$ but I would pay the little extra for the better quality food. A side note, the onion rings were nothing special and wouldn't give it a high rating and were 3.59$ which was probably not worth it. Overall, it's late night food but nothing more and if you get a chance, check out Oakland gryos first. read more

When staying out all night on Brady Street starts to be a thing again, you can't go wrong by closing it out at Apollo. Everything is good. The gyro is awesome. The Athenian chicken is great. They have moussaka and pastitsio which you can't find at every Greek restaurant (and they're good.) Really for Greek food in Milwaukee (on the east side at least) it's between this place and Oakland Gyros for the best. Of course, pre-dining festivities on Brady St are not required to enjoy the food. In COVID times I've enjoyed a meal or two on the patio. But the generous portions are appealing after a few drinks, or several. It can almost end up being too much food. The combination plate is definitely worth the money, but I find it hard to finish unless I'm really famished. I'm a fan of the veggie plate because sometimes it's just the RIGHT amount of food. That's a piece of spanakopita, two stuffed grape leaves (without meat) and a Greek salad. It's filling and all the flavors go together really well. But sometimes you have to get one of the entrees that come with either the roasted potatoes or the spinach rice. Should you get the potatoes or the rice? They both have their merits. In the wee hours I often get the rice with the notion that eating something green is probably a good idea right about now. But sometimes the potatoes hit the spot. If I get a sandwich I almost always get it with a Greek salad. Service is basic but always friendly. You order and get your food at the counter and there are napkins and utensils at the stand by the window. The restaurant is small--now with tables marked off to facilitate social distancing--but the atmosphere is always welcoming. I'm glad to see this place sticking around and doing business. I've been back many times and will be back again. read more

My friend and I were doing a nostalgia walk of Brady Street and we were starving. We decided Greek sounded like just the ticket for a late afternoon lunch visit. We had the saganaki, because hot cheese. It was very good, but understated without the theatrical flaming brandy table side. We split a falafel and that was just so so. It was very uniform, very bland and seemed liked a boxed mix. The accompanying fries and Zeus sauce were tasty. We also split a tuna souvlaki and Greek salad. Both these items were flavorful and satisfying. Overall, this was a reasonable, flavor forward lunch. I'll go again. Staff wore masks and tables were separated for pandemic safety. read more

Great experience here in this simple order at the counter eatery! I've never been a gyros fan but love things like moussaka, pastitsio and dolmades. I've had the Gyro from here twice and both times I remember specifically thinking: it's pretty good but not as delicious as Oakland Gyros. The new location of Oakland Gyros doesn't really have anything on the original and I'd probably come to Apollo before I would go back to the new Oakland Gyros. Excellent! This is very good food in s very clean place! The Mediterranean said with chicken had lots of tender grilled chicken and a very tasty dressing. The gyros are savory and in generous portions. The bathrooms are literally smelling super clean of Spic-n-Soan and there is a clean outdoor seating area plus a little garden with pergola. Very good casual Greek restaurant. You order at the counter and they call you when the food is ready. We went for lunch and between the two of us, had the beef souvlaki, Greek fries, Greek salad, and a bowl of the egg lemon soup. Everything was fresh and delicious. A few criticisms: The portion size on the beef souvlaki was on the small side and the pita bread fell apart immediately after trying to make a sandwich out of it. It's more of a knife and fork sandwich. Bring your own anchovies if you want some on your salad, they don't offer them. But don't get me wrong, this place is very good. read more

Stopped in over the weekend to help some friends offset some of their beverage intake that night. I tried their gyro and was pleased. It's been several years since my last visit here, so I couldn't remember if I liked it or not. I did. The gyro meat was well-seasoned for great flavor and the meat didn't have the "it's been reheated for 4 days in a row" look to it with the uneven coloring and sometimes crispy edges. The pita bread was also warm and soft. I grabbed a couple of fries from one of my friends and while they weren't among the best I've had, they didn't suck. They were golden in color and fairly crisp. Have been coming here for 15 years, but this was my first time in awhile. It was as good as ever, great food and service. My go-to dish is the beef souvlaki, great flavor and love the grilled onions, peppers and tomato. The feta and tzatziki sauce are also the best. Tried the hummus platter for first time and it was excellent and the fries tasted better than I remembered them to be. My son always gets the Athenian chicken with potatoes and throws them in a pita with feta and sauce. I'd recommend doing it that way instead of ordering the chicken souvlaki as the Athenian chicken is more moist and tasty than what you get with the souvlaki. Finally tried the falafel as well and I'm not an expert on it, haven't had it everywhere else, but so far it's my fav falafel. Overall, excellent flavors, hits the happy spot you feel after a good meal and makes you want to get it again...soon. read more

My favorites are the lemon soup, a side of Greek chicken, Greek salad which I have to note is really dark green fresh crispy lettuce and perfectly dressed. The gyros are tasty and classic. In an effort to continue to support local businesses during COVID while also trying to keep an eye on my expenses, I figure I would give Apollo Cafe a try for dinner tonight! I have always walked by this place and always wanted to try it so why not now? I ordered the chicken souvlaki plate and subbed a side salad for the side ($1.29 extra to sub salad instead of fries or rice). I also got an extra side of Greek fries and an order of Avgolemono soup. I would have to say that everything was just fine! I was not blown away and I have had better Greek food elsewhere, but what I got was a pretty good take out meal. The chicken for starters was seasoned very well but the texture was a little off to me. It says on the menu that it's grilled, however it tasted more like it was cooked on a stove top. The side salad was a good Greek salad! Big chunks of feta and the dressing is really good and zippy. The fries were a bit soggy but I liked the Greek infused flavor which added a nice tangy kick with the feta cheese on top. I think my favorite parts of my order were the tzatziki sauce and the avgolemono soup. The sauce is homemade and it really tasted that way! Avgolemono soup is one of my favorite soups ever and this one was really good! It was very tangy and creamy and really hit the spot. If I were to come back, I think I would try something else from their authentic greek plates menu to get a more accurate representation of what they have to offer. Overall, I would maybe come back but I don't think I would re-order what I ordered besides the soup. read more
