    Chicken souvlaki plate
    Cecily W.

Im like addicted to this place. I might be pregnant, I might not, but the intense cravings I have for this chicken souvlaki place is just crazy. I spend money that I don't have here because it's just so good. My friend is from Greece and even she thought it looked good from just the pictures I sent her. The yogurt like sauce (I don't know what it is) is special. I love to French the chicken in it with a bunch of lemon. The pita bread is the perfect consistency. Also I love the little side of pepperoncini. I take a bite out of the pepper and make sure the acidic vinaigrette juice spills over the chicken so it complements the sauce that I drown it in. If I were food s*xual, it would be for this especially during the summer. Anyway, I wish I were Greek so I could make this but for now I have Apollo.

Apollo Cafe is a sudden change of pace from the fast and loud bars on Brady. The high high blue and wispy ceiling may make you think you're on an adventure, at least for a moment. The menu is has many appetizers and sides. In addition to the Greek food they have more American options. On Fridays they have a baked and fried fish fry. The "sandwiches/plates" and just different entrees. The plates come with rice pilaf and cost $4 more. You can upgrade the rice to a salad for $2. We got a chicken souvlaki one sandwich and one plate. It didn't really seem worth getting the plate. The service was good, quick. They gave a squeeze tube of tzatziki sauce. Was good for price but hard to distinguish from other gyro places.

This restaurant refused service to me because of my service dog. The owner literally said 'because of other people using the excuse of a service dog she wouldn't serve us. Treating a customer so badly due to something or an incident that happened with someone else is beyond disgusting.

A hidden gem that quietly holds its own in the heart of the Brady street restaurant district . Three generations of the same family behind the counter serve up the best gyros in the state. No contest. Served with authentic salads, perfect French fries, Greek olives, salty cheese, and peppers. If you can finish one of the massive servings there are also homemade desserts straight from Grandma's kitchen. Pleasant outdoor seating in the summer that doesn't put you on a crowded sidewalk or in a parking lane. Lots of parking in the back. Fast friendly service. An obviously regular clientele that apparently considers this place home. What are you waiting for? This is a milwaukee tradition that should be on everyone's bucket list!

I take everyone I know to Apollo Cafe if they come to visit me in Milwaukee! Food is amazing and service is awesome too! I always get the Chicken Souvlaki and take my food to eat outside on the cafes patio. Overall, highly recommend!!!

    Onion Rings- nothing special

I've been here before and rated it a bit below Oakland gyros which is the best in town. Unfortunately, I would STILL RATE IT BELOW OAKLAND GRYOS. I got the gyro platter and i will say the gravy is more tasty than OG's but their gyro is a bit thicker and heavier to eat. It isn't as moist as OG's and makes you need a few cups of water to eat it all. Since it was so heavy, it was hard to eat all of it without feeling full and heavy the rest of the night. The price is a bit cheaper for the gyro platter at 8.50$ where OG's platter is 9.80$ but I would pay the little extra for the better quality food. A side note, the onion rings were nothing special and wouldn't give it a high rating and were 3.59$ which was probably not worth it. Overall, it's late night food but nothing more and if you get a chance, check out Oakland gryos first.

Last night's combo plate: spanakopita, pastitsio, dolmades, gyro meat.

When staying out all night on Brady Street starts to be a thing again, you can't go wrong by closing it out at Apollo. Everything is good. The gyro is awesome. The Athenian chicken is great. They have moussaka and pastitsio which you can't find at every Greek restaurant (and they're good.) Really for Greek food in Milwaukee (on the east side at least) it's between this place and Oakland Gyros for the best. Of course, pre-dining festivities on Brady St are not required to enjoy the food. In COVID times I've enjoyed a meal or two on the patio. But the generous portions are appealing after a few drinks, or several. It can almost end up being too much food. The combination plate is definitely worth the money, but I find it hard to finish unless I'm really famished. I'm a fan of the veggie plate because sometimes it's just the RIGHT amount of food. That's a piece of spanakopita, two stuffed grape leaves (without meat) and a Greek salad. It's filling and all the flavors go together really well. But sometimes you have to get one of the entrees that come with either the roasted potatoes or the spinach rice. Should you get the potatoes or the rice? They both have their merits. In the wee hours I often get the rice with the notion that eating something green is probably a good idea right about now. But sometimes the potatoes hit the spot. If I get a sandwich I almost always get it with a Greek salad. Service is basic but always friendly. You order and get your food at the counter and there are napkins and utensils at the stand by the window. The restaurant is small--now with tables marked off to facilitate social distancing--but the atmosphere is always welcoming. I'm glad to see this place sticking around and doing business. I've been back many times and will be back again.

When this place closes at night I tell my friends from One Republic, It's Too Late for Apollo guys! It's too late.
    Fox E.

My friends from the band OneRepublic wanted to come here about 10 mins after they closed. I was like It's too late for Apollo, guys It's too late! I've had the Gyro from here twice and both times I remember specifically thinking: it's pretty good but not as delicious as Oakland Gyros. The new location of Oakland Gyros doesn't really have anything on the original and I'd probably come to Apollo before I would go back to the new Oakland Gyros. I'll try Apollo a third time, for some non-Gyro fare (is that fair?) and will update this then.

Beef Souvlki Sandwich with Greek fries
    Mark S.

Very good casual Greek restaurant. You order at the counter and they call you when the food is ready. We went for lunch and between the two of us, had the beef souvlaki, Greek fries, Greek salad, and a bowl of the egg lemon soup. Everything was fresh and delicious. A few criticisms: The portion size on the beef souvlaki was on the small side and the pita bread fell apart immediately after trying to make a sandwich out of it. It's more of a knife and fork sandwich. Bring your own anchovies if you want some on your salad, they don't offer them. But don't get me wrong, this place is very good.

    Jaycee B.

The food was really good and the service was great!! Would definitely recommend! We got the gyros with a side of fries, and the fries!

He got the fig old fashioned-of course I tried it- and it was delightful. I'm a big martini fan so I went with their signature, made with gin, and garnished with feta-stuffed olives. I mean yesss x10. As if those olives weren't enough, we ordered the olive dish from the shareables menu, along with the whipped feta. That came with roasted grapes, pistachio, pomegranate, and mint. Talk about flavorful! They get ya on having to order an extra serving of pita bread though. From the mains we had the seared scallops with ricotta dumplings, along with the woodfire grilled hanger steak, all to share. More bold flavors, more happiness with our choices! Ended the meal with a well-made espresso martini. I've not met a dish I don't like here, and the overall dining experience is worth the price.

It is a small family owned business, and mother cooks all the food. It's only been a month since they moved here from Layton, so they don't have a sign yet, but just go in to the Rayan super market, and navigate yourself to the back of the building. They do have a table off to the side inside the market if you're in a pinch and need to eat there, but I'd recommend taking the food to go. The family is friendly, and if you aren't too familiar with Mediterranean food, they will help you navigate their menu items. They have 2 types of rice. One is a smoked rice (first time I tried it, and it was good!), and the other one is cinnamon. I didn't care for the latter, but the smoked rice was delicious. I was only going to try a bite or two, but I ended up kicking myself off of keto and ate a whole bowl. Chicken special - with rice and salad Salad was a small portion of very fresh lettuce, tomato and cucumber in light oil dressing. Chicken was a bit dry for my taste. They did have the chicken in a warmer plate (like the buffet style) and it must have been sitting there a while. The flavors were good, but the dryness was disappointing. The menu says "half chicken", but we got 2 pieces of thigh+drum. In a way that's good, cuz any breast meat would have been so much more dry. Lamb special - with rice and salad We ordered the cinnamon rice for this dish and the smoked one for the chicken dish. Like I said, the smoked rice was better for my palate. The lamb was delicious. It was falling off the bones, but it wasn't dry. We got 3 large chunks of lamb with bone and one little piece boneless. In both plates, our server piled the rice so high! I hope they don't go out of business giving so much rice! But I'm not complaining. Overall, the meal was delicious and I would definitely go again. We've enjoyed "sip and paints" here, New Year's Eve, when they offered brunch with crepes, and frequented when they had their vegetarian lunch buffet. Unfortunately, things have changed. 1. Atmosphere The décor hasn't changed. Still sleek, dimly lit, and romantic. The bathroom water wasn't working, and staff seemed aware of it when we mentioned it. How is that sanitary or up to code? Several of the chairs brought to our table were also broken, with bent legs a clear safety issue. It's typically packed on a Saturday like a dance club but it was nearly empty on a Saturday night which may be a reflection of our experience. 2. Service Our waitress was kind and attentive despite handling a large group, but the busboy was unprofessional. He started clearing plates while people were still eating and even asked my husband to reach across the table to hand over other guests' dishes. It made us feel rushed, even though the place wasn't busy. 3. Food My chicken shawarma was greasy, hard, sour, and unseasoned, almost as if the meat had gone bad. The potato balls were cut open which I've never seen and underwhelming. Fucking love this place…read more If there is a highly rated small plates place in a location we are visiting, you can count on us to find it. We walked literally thirty minutes to this place from our hotel. It was a lovely walk in early August. We had a 5:45pm reservation on a Thursday (we are old now) and we were seated immediately. Service was excellent. Ok so they have a fantastic cocktail menu. I appreciate any cocktail menu that is more complex than vodka and cranberry juice but this takes it to another level of creativity. I also like how they name them with numbers. It's so much easier to say "I'll have a 42" rather than "I will have a duperbeamerscicle". I started with an "88" with pisco, rose-poached strawberry, amontillado sherry, verjus, rose port, and pink peppercorn. Served in a highball glass and garnished with berries. Very refreshing. GF started with the "91" mezcal, passion fruit, poblano, pineapple, amaro, lime. Gorgeous and chic. Very strong, smoky flavor. When in Rome, so the cheese plate did not feel like an option. Four fantastic cheeses were served with very tasty candied nuts, some jam business, grapes, and some of the best bread I have had on a cheese plate. Thick, soft, and fluffy. Paired absolutely perfectly with cheese. Only complaint is that I wish there was more of it. I haven't had deviled eggs in a minute so I went wild and also had the chili crisp deviled eggs which were SPECTACULAR. I also got the Egyptian fried cauliflower which is served on a smear of harissa and lemon tahini. Very flavorful. Star of the show tbh was the tagliatelle with squash, tomato, these fried cheese crisps. The noodles were al dente and SO GOOD in such a wonderful sauce. GF also got the steak, she says "very good seasoning". I helped her out with the kimchi pancake. Wonderful. Such a great sauce. For our second round of dranks we both went with the "77" makrut lime vodka, tamarind, bird's eye chili, cilantro, lime, lemongrass. Very tamarind forward. Very unique. I can see why it's our server's favorite drink on the menu. The desserts looked really good (something with sticky rice I think it was a cocktail and a bread budding that looked fantastic) but we just weren't feeling it.

The deviled eggs were easily our favorite and are an absolute must-order. We also loved the flatbread with fiddleheads, which featured a delicious curry-inspired flavor that reminded us of an Indian dish. My husband couldn't stop talking about the bread pudding and said it was one of the best desserts he's had. Everything we tried was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. If we lived in Milwaukee, Odd Duck would absolutely become one of our regular spots. We can't wait to come back the next time we're in town.
