Cameron and Tristan did a thorough maintenance check on my 2 A/C units. I was having no problems, it was an annual contract appt. They were punctual and stayed a couple of hours. I know my units are old and they were honest about the condition and what needed to be replaced, but didn't try to pressure me, or use scare tactics to sell new ones. I appreciated their professionalism and knowledge. Cameron explained it in a way that I could understand. Emergency call cost $240. Air handler base was full of water and ductwork next to air handler was full of water. Technician said there was a leak in the wall above the air handler (there was not!). He never offered to remove the water from the air handler or the ductwork. Bad business practices. read more

Apex Heating and Air Conditioning was prompt, courteous and professional. Here is what happened. I was out of town and my wife called me . She said the furnace is not working and she called a local HVAC company here in Pittsboro to come out. As I was out of town I told her I wanted to speak with them when they came by. I got a call and spoke with the technician, I was told that nothing was wrong with my furnace, it was working fine. Lucky we had a week of warm days ahead of us in the 70's and 80's. Crazy weather here in North Carolina. I returned home the next day and checked out the furnace, it did not work. I made an apparatus to drain the condensation tray and clean out the drain tube . I told the technician this when I spoke with him, the tube gets clogged up with moss and prevents the water from being pumped out, the safety float shuts off the system when the water reaches a certain level in the tray. He said he would check that. When I cleaned it out the system turned on, alas heat was coming out. But after a few minutes I smelled gas, turned off the system and called the company that came out. To make clear this company is not Apex Heating and AC. I was told by the owner that they would be out today, it was Thursday. No show, called Friday and left numerous messages. Did the same for Saturday and Sunday. No return call. Monday came and got a call, that came out and thought it may be a burner, or something, it could be or might be. That is the conversation I got. It sounded like they were not sure what was wrong. They did say that it looked like I need a new furnace, they would call me with an estimate tomorrow. Yep....you guessed it. No phone call. So here is where Apex Heating and Air Conditioning come in. I called them because they were a authorized dealer of my HVAC system. Made an appointment for the next day, great !!!! Got a call a little later from them saying they can come out today in about 1/2 hour . I said come on. The technician Brad came , checked out the system and told me what was wrong. He said he has seen this a number of times in the past. He has been a technician for 35 years in the HVAC business. To actually repair this system would almost cost as much as a new one. I told him to replace it and go with the new one. Brad was professional, courteous and knew what he was doing. A few days after ( not a week or more ) they came out and installed the new system. This all happened in a few days from when I originally called them. Apex Heating and Air Conditioning was very professional and courteous. The install team explained the new system to me , cleaned up , took the old tear out system with them. Friendly and informative guys. My experience with Apex Heating and Air Conditioning was absolutely great. Everything went smoothly with no glitches or hitches. If you want someone to come out for an estimate then complete expensive work without getting permission, this place is for you. While called out for an diagnostic estimate...they went on to charge 418 dollars to clean and charge the coils....and then reccomend the coils be replaced....at an additional cost of over $1000 labor (coils are under warranty). If the coils needed replaced, why clean them?? Most disturbing was the condensending and arrogant attitude of the technician. When asked to explain what he found on diagnostic,....he said "I could tell you, but then you wouldnt understand. It's over your head" I figure this was because I was female because unbeknownst to him, I do physics for a living (epic eyeroll). I called to complain after he left but was informed the mysygonist was the OWNER. use this place at your own risk!! This company overcharged me $700 to replace a thermostat that should cost $50 plus a service charge.

Needed 2 new water heaters. The guy Charles came out and gave me a quote that seemed high even after he tried to sell me their warranties of up to 10 years (ALOT more $) I declined warranty, but they could put it in that day so I went against my better judgement and agreed to the install. It was almost $5k (with a discount lol). He told me that an HVAC guy would come out as part of the price to look at the roof cap to see if there was any damage. Well the HVAC team came out but was told to go on roof it was $250!!! When I reached out to Charles he told me it was free for them to come out but to do anything else there was a charge....really!! I wish I would of just bought the water heaters on my own and had them delivered and hired a plumber to install..it would of been half the price and I would of had a 10 year warranty on unit instead of the regular 2 year one I got. We paid apex heating and air to come out and clean the unit along with sealing up areas that were pulling in air to the system from the crawl space. The evaporator coils look like they haven't been cleaned in 10 years., meaning the fan had to work overtime (possibly burn itself out) trying to get air through a VERY clogged coil. In fact they said we needed to replace the unit all together **Can't help but think this was left dirty to try to make us think it was bad so we would replace this unit. Not only did they fail to clean the coils, they left the return air duct hanging down with a (roughly) 1" gap across an entire side. Meaning that my system was working even more overtime trying to heat/cool outside air instead of the air already inside the house. There were also numerous places on the unit itself were air was being sucked in from the crawl space and then blown out after being cooled. To summarize, not only did apex heating and air fail to do EXACTLY what we paid them to do (clean the unit out), they failed to fix or even say anything about the multiple other problems of outside air getting into and conditioned air escaping from the system being fixable. Although the technician was very nice, the prices quoted and the lack of guarantee of workmanship and parts prompted me to seek out more quotes. The quote to replace the coil and related parts and labor came to approximately 3800. It was recommended because of this to go with a new $6100 system. The second for my called informed me that now there was a Lennix part for the coil that was aluminum instead of copper which was guaranteed by Lenix for a year and service would be guaranteed as well for a year. The reviews on the part revealed it would probably go for two years. The total price for labor and parts and coolant was $1500. When the other firm came out, offering me a window unit, they reported that outside the PVC line had been cut, as well as the drainage lines in the inside unit so that the water would spill on the floor rather than go through the drain. He could not say why this was done, but it did render the system unworkable and resulted in more cost for me. read more

I'm a Realtor and have a lot of experience with HVAC service companies. My 'go to' guy does not work on Apollo Heat Systems and recommended I call Apex Heating & Air to investigate the system I have at one a rental condo I own. The lady I spoke with on the phone was pleasant, and she was able to get an appointment set for the next day, which was great. And the technician did show up on time. But that's where the good ends and the bad begins. He called me a short time later to say that he checked out the unit and the unit was fine; it was the water heater check valve that needed to be replaced. I thought that was a bit weird since we had literally just replaced the water heater less than a month ago. All new check valves were installed and everything was working great. But I took him at his word and got a plumber over there. The plumber replaced both check valves and still, no hot air blowing out. The plumber seemed to think the water circulator pump in the air handler (or a relay switch or a fuse relating to the circ pump) was the culprit. I'm irritated that the HVAC tech did not check this while he was there. I paid a trip fee for him to do nothing, and then had to pay the plumber for his time as well. Now I've got another HVAC company coming to (hopefully) correctly diagnose and fix the problem. I would avoid this company if you have an Apollo system. read more

I had an issue will water drip pan on inside AC unit in my condo. Call Apex and they went on sight for 20 mins and decided I needed a whole new unit. So I went and got a second opinion on the unit. A true professional went on sight and assessed that all was needed was a new pan. He had one made and install it. It cost me $110.00. Your company changed me $465.00 to just look at the unit and tell me I need to spend over $6000.00. Even better you charged my card before even sending me the invoice.... I don't know what this company is doing but they seem woefully incompetent. The A/C in our office has been out of service for almost a month now and this company keeps sending workers there and the problem is yet to be fixed. In this current climate with the temperatures going into the 90s this is completely unacceptable. These guys came out and fixed a blower problem on my HVAC unit and 1.5 years later the blower is again making a sound and I am concerned about a failure. I called them to ask them to come out and take a look at it before it becomes an emergency since they did the work on it the first time. I thought as an existing customer they would at least waive the $97 trip fee (I am only 10 minutes from their office) but the answer was an unequivocal "NO". I heard a lot of fast talk about what a great service they are (even though their last repair may have only lasted 18 months) but at the end of the day, loyalty apparently means nothing. Last week my air went on blink. I called apex heating and air. They sent a young man named Sean to work on it. He told me I had burnt wires and the unit needed to be replaced. To replace the unit it would be $5,000.00. My husband called another company and they told me I had a shortage in the electrical line running to the unit. This line was replaced and the ac started up immediately. It did not have any burnt wires. I spent approximately $400.00 to get it taken care of and now I'm sitting in cool air without replacing the unit. I was on their service contract for years as was the original owner of my house. After having my summer inspection my AC failed On a hot weekend when I returned from vacation exhausted on a Sunday. I had to find another company as Apex will not serve you on a weekend in hot months you're lucky to get next day service on a week day with them. And Forget the Apex emergency line no one did answer. I Come to find out the technician basically did nothing on my service check up he was around maybe for 15 minutes doing I don't know what. The new technician from another company discovered the coils were not cleaned. They had the wrong fuse installed on the unit it could have possibly been sabotaged exposed wire to cause harm to my system to force me into buying a new one. When Apex installed the new AC a few years back they never advised me that mixing the brands of AC and heater would void my warranty on the new AC. I had the Duke/Dominion energy saving box wired directly to my AC outside in a separate box. The wires were shot, melted, corroded, exposed, rusted, charred, dangerous and the circuit board in the box water damaged. It was Kaput and a hazard not only to a person but to my AC system. None the less it was still live with power. Never once did they suggest maybe calling the energy company or an electrician to come remove it. Contacted Apex Heating & Air at about 7:40AM after the hottest day we've had in a while this summer. The air conditioner was blowing air, but it wasn't cold. They had an opening and were at my house by 8:30AM that same morning, great! Took the fellow about 20 minutes to diagnose the problem and fix it, simple capacitor replacement. Everything was great until I got the bill - $240!! I can accept being charged a standard hour's worth of labor at $94(they call it a diagnostic charge). The guy knew what to look for and how to fix it. But he charged me $145 for a part that costs around $40 locally. I guarantee his shop can buy it for less. That's well over a 300% markup on a part at retail cost. Apex Heating & Air gets great marks for timeliness and quick repair time, but a big negative for overcharging this customer. I understand times are tough and these places have to make a profit, but because of their markup policies I'm going to look elsewhere next time I have an issue - they're just too expensive. I dread to think what they would charge if I had more serious repair to be made. In the end, is $240 worth a happy house? Yes, in that everyone's comfortable and not sweating, but no in that I feel like I just got taken for a ride... read more

It is very disappointing to have a maintenance agreement with a company, spend over $12K on 2 new HVAC units within the last 2 years, and be a loyal 20-year customer, but when a thermostat that is under warranty starts to malfunction, the technician tells me we need to have proof the thermostat is defective. Hourly photos of the thermostat made my point, but after finally being able to get in touch with the owner, he wanted to charge $245 to replace it. It literally takes a couple of minutes to replace it (unplug and plug the new one) and some charges for time are reasonable, but $245 is not. I was told that they had made some paperwork error and couldn't afford to get the thermostat without charging me...in other words, I have to pay for their mistake ? I called other companies who would charge me a small fraction of what Apex wanted, and without the hassle, smug/unfriendly attitude and poor customer service. Apex H&AC has lost a long term customer and I have a new thermostat and new maintenance agreement with another company. read more

The only good thing I can say about this company is when we called to have someone come out they were available the same day. That is probably because they have no business. They tinkered around for long enough to charge us for an hour's work of "service" plus the service call fee $300!!! It was far from service!!! They wrote up the invoice for cleaning sensors/burners/igniters. Problem is the following week when the temp dropped it was not able to maintain the temp. I called them back and asked if he could come back out and if I would not be charged the service call fee. I was yelled at as if I someone who wanted to get something free! Not actually the case just wanted "good service" and someone to stand by their work! Instead I decided to go with someone else. The second company came out spent 20 minutes cleaned the igniters and got the system up and running. They indicated there was no way Apex cleaned anything in that system. Apex Heating & Air cost me time and money. They were supposed to install duct work in my commercial retail space. The day before the scheduled installation, I had employees working to remove all displays and products from the installation area, so the duct work could be installed. Rather than pay my employees to open the space for the installers the next day, I took a vacation day from my full-time job. I got to my store early, then went to Dunkin Donuts to get donuts for the installers. I got back and waited. After waiting an hour after the install time, 7:30am, I called the office. I was first told by their office manager, Cindy, that I wasn't scheduled. Then I was told that no one was available to install my duct work because the installers mother was sick with cancer and he was the only one available and they needed to reschedule in two weeks or so. I expressed my frustration with the fact that I had multiple employees working to prep the night before, then took a vacation day for the install and was passed around by various employees and finally told sorry- the installers mother was sick and was eventually hung up on. I had to pay multiple employees to put my store back together. Flash forward to about two weeks later, I receive a voicemail from Cindy that THE NEXT DAY they will be there to install my duct work (never confirmed when I spoke with her before, but I probably could have if she hadn't hung up on me). I then have to scramble to schedule employees to help move everything again away from the area of install and also have to pay two employees to cover the duration of the install. Here is the best part, when the installers arrive at my store- they apologize for being double booked by their office manager, Cindy on the initial install day. And while the installers mother does actually have cancer, the installer was at work that day- but just on another job site. (And his mother is actually improving, in case you were wondering.) The installers also told my employee that everyone in the Apex Heating and Air office was laughing at how upset I was, when they told me they couldn't install and were joking about who they should pass me to next on the phone. Who does business this way?! Who uses an employee's sick mother as a lie to a customer? It's just wrong on so many levels. I would ensure that any employee lying to my customers would be handled accordingly. Your office manager is the front line of your business, just like my associates are the front line of my retail store. If I have an associate that isn't treating customers in my store correctly, it reflects poorly on me and my business. As a small business owner, I would never have dreamed that someone would treat another business owner this way. Usually small businesses understand that every dollar counts and they understand that time matters. If this happened to one of my customers, I, as the owner of a small business, would reach out directly, yet I haven't heard a peep from Kenny at Apex Heating and Air. Given that I was being laughed at in their office, surely he knows about the situation. read more
