It's distressing to see this place hasn't been shut down after folks have been complaining about the same things over and over. My opinion remains the same after my horrible experience...no one should go to Apex. Ever. And is it true the Dr. Daniel Chun who was working at Apex recently had his dentist license suspended? I was treated by him there and I had complaints. An absolutely terrible experience for me. I won't go back to Apex. And told them I wouldn't. They didn't do anything. But strangely the Arlington office called me months later this past July to tell me Dr. Chun wasn't working in that office anymore and asked if I wanted to come back since he was gone. Wow. I asked if he was no longer working for Apex, and they told me he was, just in another office. I refuse to go to a dental office that employs him at all. Update as of March 2026: I learned today that the Virginia Dental Board recently revoked the license of Dr. Daniel Chun, the lead dentist at Apex Dental Care. According to the complaint, Chun performed unnecessary dental work (including crowns and implants) on patients, billed patients for procedures that were not performed, and threatened other doctors in his practice who spoke out. I have been a patient at APEX since May 2025. I was recommended by my friend who had cosmetic work done there and so did 3 of my other friends (and honestly they're so professional and friendly). ** Here's my story time ** I went in for a dental emergency for tooth pain although I had a general cleaning, that was initially scheduled for the next week but obviously I couldn't wait. I left that day NO EXAGGERATION- 9 hours later (9a-6:30/7pm) with a tooth extraction, $500 poorer, dental payment plan that exceeded $,1000 for the next6+ months, and numb from the rooter to the tooter. I was pretty much coerced to start plans of reconsidering and tooth extractions until March 2026 which will be deep cleanings every 4 months, cologne, bone marrow, 3 tooth extractions, a bridge etc so that's roughly $4,000 by March 2026. I explained it would put me in the hole, but I tried and now here I am months later in the hole and in pain once again. Not their fault they're just expensive as heck and the payment options in this economy isn't realistic or affordable! But overall they're great I love the hygienist and the assistants and the front desk girls even though the turn overrate is crazy. I love it here wish I could afford it haha. They definitely pressure you for preventative care and don't take NO for an answer that's for sure. Hopefully I can renegotiate my contract or just find an affordable dental place read more

I went there without checking reviews at all. I was attracted by the idea of same day crowns. They said I needed four extractions, and thus four dental implants. I should have gone to another dentist for a second opinion but I am trusting of dentists. He pulled four teeth and did four dental implants, TWO OF WHICH failed. I then left this practice - even though I had prepaid for the dental implants - and took the failed dental implants to Dr. Ziad Ali, who specializes in failed implants, to salvage them. I have no confidence in the ability of Apex Dental anymore. If any dentist tells you that you need four extractions, please go to another dentist for a second opinion. In addition, dentists will happily tell you over the phone the costs that they charge for dental implants and their overall success rate with dental implants. Many dentists have overall success rates of around 97 percent. Apex Dental Care charges significantly more for dental implants than other dentists in the area. Apex Dental has very high patient turnover and thus advertises quite a bit. As a result expect that you will typically wait a couple of hours while your dentist sees other patients - even when you are routinely on time or a few minutes early for every appointment. They do have TVs you can watch while you wait. read more

I really wish I'd read more reviews before trusting this place. In my experience, it felt like a last-minute bait-and-switch. They seemed to take advantage of the fact that I was in a tough financial situation and tried to guilt/pressure me into a payment plan that was terrible. They say they "optimize for insurance," but I ended up paying more out of pocket in fees than what they even billed insurance. I came in with a perfectly fine smile and left with a missing tooth and a lot of debt for a service I now believe I didn't actually need. I felt heavily pressured to sign up for their plan because I was told it was "what's best for my health," even though other providers later told me I only needed much simpler work. To be fair, the staff are friendly on the surface, but when it comes to money, it felt like sales tactics and fear-based pressure designed to benefit them, not me. I will never go back to Apex Dental. I was a patient there for three years and deeply regret it. Prior to becoming a patient, I'd never had any dental issues. Yet, nearly every appointment, they told me I needed a cavity filled or a crown--eventually convincing me to get three crowns. At my last visit, they pushed for three more crowns--despite me having no pain, no visible damage, and healthy-looking teeth. When I expressed hesitation, they insisted I get at least one done that day. I reluctantly agreed. Afterward, I sought a second opinion, and the new dentist was horrified. They told me my two remaining teeth that Apex dental suggested I get a crown were absolutely perfect and that placing a crown would have been completely unnecessary. To make matters worse, my insurance denied the claim for the crown I let them do, stating that based on my X-rays, the procedure wasn't justified. STAY AWAY. There is no evidence based medicine in their practices, they tell you things that are completely wrong to get you to pay more, the wait time is horrendous, they subject you to unnecessary tests, they just want your money money money. For more details: I came here to find a new dentist that was a decent price for a routine teeth clean. It was $100 and they stated fluoride and X-rays were included as well. Great. Well they didn't say you also had to get a mandatory CT scan of your jaw to look at the gums (mind you I was in my 20s and never had any issues with my teeth or gums--never had a cavity, never an infection, no chipped teeth, no crowns, no fillers, NOTHING). The CT was unnecessary at my age and given the request I only needed a cleaning and had no other issues-- they subjected me to unnecessary radiation. Additionally, i should mention that I waited 1.5 hours before being seen in the back. I asked after 45minutes, 1hr, then 1hr 15 and each time I was told that I was next--people kept leaving but no one was taking me or the other man there back. (The other patient said he waited over an hour last time, so it was not a one off). I finally got to the back, got the CT. Then I was placed in a cleaning chair and waited another 15minutes before I had X-rays done. Then I had my cleaning which was decent. During the cleaning the dental hygienist told me I had a cavity "see and feel this divot in your back tooth". I was shocked, I never felt pain back there and I have never had a cavity before. The dentist came in, checked me and said I was fine and maybe I had the start of a cavity (but he pointed to a tooth on the opposite side) and showed me something on my X-ray that was indicative of it. (For background, I know how to read an X-ray, he completely made that part up.) THEN, he said I had really bad TMJ and I should look into Botox. I start to entertain this and ask him how often I would need to keep up with this. He said "oh you only get the injection once and you're fine". I clarified "once in my lifetime?" And he responded yes. For anyone who doesn't know, Botox is a substance that wears off after about a year when your receptors start to come back. The toxin does not kill off all of the receptors indefinitely, they come back. Anyways so I said I've been here for almost 2.5hrs now, I don't wish to do anything else, I have a meeting in 10minutes if they could give me the fluoride so I could leave. The dentist leaves then his assistant comes in and walks me through this sheet that if I purchase Botox today I get a physicians special of 10% off which makes it only $1100 (or whatever the cost was) but this would only last today. And I said I was not interested today but she kept going on about it. I had to say no so may times that I would not be getting Botox can I please be checked out I have to go. It was clearly an awful experience. Your $100 cleaning will quickly turn into a $1000 3 hour appt where they tell you your perfectly healthy teeth need hours of work. read more

I had an implant done on a missing tooth. The implant was placed incorrectly and there is a gap between my gums and tooth which I have to constantly floss and clean. I've been a client of Apex since it opened with Dr Elizabeth. Since then I've been passed down through all the doctors that worked there. I didn't much like the turnover but I always liked my dentist and the support staff both at the front desk and in the cleaning rooms. I've referred my adult children and my friends. I have, however, been concerned about how strong and pushy (even to the point of scare-tactics) they are at upselling. Last year when I'd already spent over $6,000 on my teeth, they told me I needed 4 crowns on top. I actually cried in their office because I didn't have another $3500 and I was told I'd lose teeth if I didn't do the work. My big sister took pity on me and loaned me the money, so I went back. I was really excited that I would finally have completed everything, that I'd have good teeth and maybe be able to just get them cleaned for a bit! Anyway the day came when my crowns were ready and I went to get them on. As soon as Dr Chun finished putting them in, he informed me that my bottom teeth hit my new upper teeth in a bad way and that I needed to crown those too, ASAP. I left the office stunned. A couple weeks ago I called and asked to speak to the doctor. I told them I don't understand...that the doctor had taken molds of my mouth and spent time fashioning my teeth. Why didn't he know ahead of time this would happen. (and prevent it). My thought was that the doctor would call back with either (1) a simple explanation of why this happened, or (2) and apology for making a mistake and an offer to fix it. Well no one has called back. I've called the office several times, and even as a long term loyal client who's sent them referrals, they can't offer me the courtesy of a return phone call? Now I believe that there is a third option that I hadn't thought of before. (3). The doctor did it on purpose so they could sell me 4 more crowns. Apparently milking your loyal (and cash-paying) client for $10k a year isn't enough! Please save your mouth the trauma and your wallet the expense, and don't come here. read more

While the staff at the office is polite, what could be a straightforward, medical service is marred, in my opinion, by what I see as the office's aggressive attempts to sell patients like me as many services as possible. Unfortunately, I believe this emphasis on sales necessarily impacts the quality of the care provided as, in my view, it is not possible to care most about a patient's medical well-being while at the same time pressuring them to buy unnecessary services. I believe a medical practice should be premised on ethical, medical care above all, not sales. Otherwise, I think it's a slippery slope. As a patient in need of dental care, I believe you will always be in a vulnerable position when you seek medical treatment, especially because you don't have an in-depth knowledge of dentistry. Due to this vulnerability, the last thing you need, in my opinion, is to walk into a space like Apex Dental where you might be pressured to buy unnecessary services. I personally wish I had never set foot in this practice. I recommend you save yourself the trouble and find a place that won't pressure you to purchase services that are not necessary. As an added note, in my experience, their dental cleanings are not always very thorough, so I believe it truly is not worth it from any standpoint. In several of the rooms at this practice you might find, as I did, a little framed quote that reads something like: "Superior doctors prevent disease. Mediocre doctors treat the disease before it is evident. Inferior doctors treat the full-blown disease". These are basically the principles of preventive medicine, which I support. However, it's important to note that preventive medicine does not imply in any way that getting more and more procedures done is ALWAYS necessary or even beneficial. In other words, it's important to keep in mind that getting more procedures done is not ALWAYS best, even when it comes to preventive care. In fact, there are plenty of dentists in the area who are willing to practice preventive care without pressuring you to purchase unnecessary services unduly. read more

I have always liked going to the dentist until I went to this clinic. This is THE WORST dental clinical I have ever been to in my life and I continued to go there for about four years because I thought I was the problem. Though, I really did know that they were the problem. I thought my teeth were just getting older and it was my destiny to have to transition to more fillings, crowns and even root canals soon. I thought my teeth were just naturally staining and that it was all irreversibile. I still have a lot built-up trauma because of this clinic. One time, the person putting my crown on dropped it in my mouth and I choked on it before swallowing it. I wish I was kidding. But then I moved to Clarksville, TN, and the clinic I go to here is the polar opposite. My hygienist was so thorough and so gentle and actually cleaned my teeth today like they haven't been cleaned in SO long! I thought there was something genetically wrong with me for so long, but really, I just went to a terrible dental clinic. The hygienist in Clarksville, TN, made my smile sparkle again (see photo below)! Also, Apex Dental was ALWAYS trying to make me get work done so they can get more money, and it's SAD that money is more important than your one set of teeth. I'm not even sure if the two crowns I got were ever needed at this point. The last time I was there in June, they tried to tell me I needed a root canal. I don't. They also tried to get me to get Botox for TMJ. This new clinic told me my teeth looked great and that I didn't have any cavities...And I believe them! I don't think it's a good thing that they are "busy" i feel they didnt care for the patients as carefully as before. But mostly I am not too happy on my last 2 implants (they were 4 total. They r milking my money alright) after how much money I've spent. The difference were, the first 2 was done by the doctor who's not there anymore, the upsetting part is, he started them but not around to finish it. And even more upsetting is the new doctor seemed they know best (i guess cuz they have the degree) and not listening my concern. But I know enough the work they did is not as good as the ones i had before. And they did very differently from the first doctor. I'll include the pic. The first 2, you barely can tell, but the other 2, you could totally tell, those can be done better. But the way they did it, I'm not sure if they can "fix" it. If anyone is interested what the differences of the work of the implants, I'm more than happy to tell you. I dont have the degree but I have the experience which one is better based on the looks of it and feels. And I did the annual cleaning too, it's not the same. Once it is dentist office for consultation to see what I needed done for my teeth. They said I need a few implants and veneers. They gave me one price and told me I was getting the in-house discount. They wanted me to pay before I get to work done. I paid to get the work done and we set a date so I had a procedure done once I went to have the procedure done. I was done told instead of implants in a sinus lift that they suggest that I get a bridge And a few implants in veneers. they did a bridge which continue to have infections. They gave me a implant, but didn't complete the work. I didn't went back in trying to work with them. They told me that things gonna remove the bridge to see why I am having all these affections they then came back 10 minutes later and told me instead of removing the bridge because it might mess up my teeth underneath the bridge that they was gonna cut the side of my gum they went cut the side of my gum, removed the infection, and they hit something in my nose, which causes my nose to bleed I never had nosebleed today in my life before them and then I continue to go back come to find out the dentist that worked on me no longer worked there. The owner told me that he was gonna make sure that you get the work done properly that I should've got a sinus lift and I told him that was the initial procedure before the dentist decide to change it at the last minute, he then proceeded to tell me that he cannot complete any other work that was already paid until I get the sign as lift and charge me an additional $3000 to get the work done. To this day, none of the work has been completed. I could see you to have infections my nose continue to believe, and I'm petrified to go anywhere else. Pushier for crowns and botox than a car salesman. Always go in being told I need both of those things, and they push and negotiate even after declining. Also, never starts on time. I had the first appointment slot of the day hoping to start on time, and no one was there to unlock the door for several minutes after. Had an appointment midday and it took 45 mins of watching Netflix like a kid with an iPad before someone opened my mouth. Can't get out in less than 1.5-2 hours. Aggressive sales tactics, dishonesty, unresponsiveness, and poor quality of service. Do not go here unless you want a dental fiasco lasting over half a year. I came in over the summer to get a crown for a chipped front tooth. The dentist had pushed for additional services and had one of the young women on staff present a bill to me with discounts (and a free at home teeth whitening kit, which was never received) if I were to accept same day. Another review had described Apex as having "used car salesman" tactics and that is an apt description. Ultimately I accepted the bill after some back and forth, which included two crowns and two retainers. The dentist gave me a timeline where I could expect the crowns to be placed before a wedding I was speaking at, for that reason I expressed urgency in getting them on. It was not made clear to me temporary crowns would be required and a lengthy process for the real crowns would take place. I did my best to expedite this, personally driving to and from the lab Apex works with in Manassas to shave off a couple of days. Despite the dentist promising me they would fit me in on the calendar, the office refused to find time for me to put the crowns on. I was then left traveling to the wedding with just the temporary crowns. To make it worse, the crowns fell off the afternoon prior to my morning flight. It was impossible to get a hold of anyone at Apex to discuss this emergency with. Fortunately, I found a rural dentist to place the temporaries back on after my flight landed. This was on a Saturday. Do not expect that kind of service from Apex Dental. Eventually, I had the crowns placed at Apex, though by a different dentist than the one I initially worked with. I had pointed out there was a gap and the dentist claimed there was not one. That same crown was also crooked. The dentist acted as though there was no issue. I again was traveling for work and had another dentist take a look at the work Apex had done, which he described simply as "unacceptable," as the gap would lead to the inner tooth rotting and an inevitable root canal. He took pictures that I provided to Apex. After sharing those with Apex, I received the following: "I completely agree with Dr. X that expressed urgency on fixing the situation. The Dr that cemented this crowns for you is no longer a part of this practice. I do not accept poor quality work and refuse to accept anyone doing that in this office. I will take care of it myself to make sure it is done well and cemented perfectly. Leaving margins open lead to sensitivity and hyperactivity of the nerve. I can make sure the lab can complete the work within 1 week from day of removal so that it can be convenient for you. As for scheduling, please contact that office. Mention that you are in contact with Dr. Y and you need to be seen the second you have time. If you have any questions please call the office and request me to speak. Thank you." That doctor who provided the above response did carve off the improperly placed crowns, but once the time came for me to get the new permanents on, he was no longer with the practice and I was completely unable to reach him. Another doctor, who first tried to push for additional services I simply did not need, then placed the crowns on. Once again, there was a gap. At least this time it wasn't also crooked. I will note here that the other doctor who took the pictures expressed urgency in fixing the gap in the tooth said there would be nerve damage from constantly taking these crowns on and off. I once again came to Apex Dental some weeks ago to finally pick up my retainers. I was once again dealing with a new dentist and found that Apex had ordered the wrong retainer (one just for sleeping and for the top jaw). I did not receive the misordered retainer either. Going to Apex Dental triggered an incredibly exhaustive process that has sucked up immense time and required two other dental offices to step in. I've since asked for a refund, but it has been over a month with no response and no indication they will give my money back for services not even provided or for their botched work. I redacted the dentists names in the above email exchange, hoping Apex will recognize the egregiousness of all of this and fulfill a refund. I'll be needing to get these crowns redone for a third time, and am hoping to avoid a root canal. I've never written a Yelp review before, but this experience was so bad I felt compelled to ensure no one else goes through the same thing. The staff and dentists are so nice, but they are just trying to milk you for all your money. I have always been told I have great teeth & to keep up the good work, but when I moved to Arlington and came here for my bi-annual cleanings, they always come up with something that ends up costing me hundreds of dollars. It took me a couple visits to realize it was getting ridiculous. So I recently said no to a filling that they originally said didn't need to be done, but once I said no, they started talking about how they should do it right away to prevent a root canal in the near future, etc. absolutely ridiculous haha. If I have to wipe down my entire face up to my eyes after the dentist sees me.... Something isn't right. As a woman who wears face make up this is quite bizarre and annoying... and also gross. I also didn't anticipate being at the dentist for close to 2 hours for a routine cleaning and no work done - ridiculous. After my cleaning was done, the sales pitch began for additional work. And after I say no, I am still made to sit there and wait to be shown a quote. I also found the beside manor of the Dr odd. A punch on the arm as a greeting, like we are pals, isn't something I appreciate from a medical professional. I had never read any of these other reviews on Yelp until now. Wish I had before. My last note is this dentist will call and text you many times to get you to schedule an appointment. I can't help but attribute this to their clear focus on sales... Please do not go here. All the negative reviews line up with my experience exactly. The positive reviews even mention the same, but those people believe they needed the treatments and that apex made that experience easier. You do not need the treatments they recommend. I had two crowns done by them and one came off less than a year after. They constantly hurt and have changed my bite. Many patients have had teeth pulled, fillings, implants and way more crowns than I have when they didn't need them! They wanted to put a third on me the last time I went but I wised up and started going somewhere else. The new dentist said I absolutely don't need the third crown and that one of the two I got, the one I already had replaced once, has a huge space between the tooth and the crown so it will need replacing AGAIN and that there could be decay. There should not be a gap between your tooth and the crown. They also shaved them down too much and it's hard to even fit the crown on the existing tooth. Ironically they push the crowns claiming to prevent future decay and save your tooth. They're pushy half the time and the other half the time they seem nice and that they're helping you which is just their schtick. The office seems clean but if you look closely it's actually dirty and dusty and looks neglected, showing incompetence among the organization and departments. I'm big on preventive care and they use that as a tactic to get you to believe you need crowns on healthy teeth. They are trying to cover the cost of their newer in-house crown machine which they didn't start recommending crowns to me until after they acquired the machine. Everything people are saying about the long wait times, the multiple people coming in and out, lack of attention to detail, all true. They are insidiously good at seeming nice and being concerned about the long term health of your teeth. In reality now my dental health has suffered from receiving two crowns I don't need and now need to pay full price to have one replaced. I can't chew correctly and they hurt constantly. I was in a depressed place when I started going here and should have gotten a second opinion and wish I had. Do not go here and please protect yourself. Use critical thinking. This kind of deliberate manipulation and shoddy practice will only come back around to bite you in your own life, no pun intended. read more

Dr. Horng is simply amazing! I am sharing this on behalf of my boyfriend who has not seen a dentist in 5 year and gets anxiety even when thinking about seeing a dentist. Dr. Horng was very attentive and understanding, and gave us a thorough explanation of what will be done and what still needed to be done. I came in for a really bad toothache that my dentist couldn't pinpoint for months, so I came to Dr. Han for a second opinion. During my consultation, he immediately saw that I had a cracked tooth. Because of my busy schedule, I really appreciated that I didn't have to book a follow up appointment to get my crown placed. The consultation and treatment were taken care of on the same day, so that was extremely convenient for me. Also, my experience at this practice was one of the best dental experiences I've had in NoVa. Dr. Han has fantastic bed side manners--he's attentive to your needs and concerns, and he provides thorough explanation of the procedures. Not to forget his equally amazing staff. The doctor and staff can't be trusted. Do not come here. I really did like this place until I found out they are double charging for procedures. I talked to my insurance company and realized they didn't give me the right rates and charged me more for what it should cost. The insurance company told me to request my money back. When I asked Dr. Klein for my money she ignored me and told me to talk to the front who lied and said there was no money to return. I showed them my insurance information and they went quiet and haven't gotten back to me. read more

As many other reviews have pointed out, this place is now a scam. It was fine when Klein was cleaning teeth, but ever since she stopped, they've hired various Korean dentists who are dishonest and use aggressive car salesmen tactics. Case and point. On two occasions, I was recommended an invasive procedure (one for a root canal) and was told that I would receive a discount if I agreed on the spot. One of the dentists even said he'd throw in a six pack of beer. Lol, is this a dentistry or a college fraternity? What's worse is that I got a second opinion from a different dentistry, took multiple x-rays, and they said that no root canal was needed. It's extremely dishonest to lie about a diagnosis just to fatten your profit margins. This is a widespread practice- go read the other reviews that paint a very similar picture. read more

Too much pressure to get work done the same day and they have this tendency to sell you crowns that you don't really need! I did accept their crowns offering but after the procedure I was told by two other doctors that crowns were not needed and filling was more than enough. I won't be returning either. I liked this place when they first opened. But I find it really loud and chaotic. They are pushy too. Like too many appointment reminders and they always try to collect money in advance. That might work for some. And I understand it's a business but it's supposed to be health care too. It's not my cup of tea at any rate. I'll be looking for a calmer environment where I feel like I am being treated more like a patient than a customer. read more

I have noticed a marked decline of genuine care for patients at this office. I came here for years and had numerous procedures done by Dr. Klein, whom I felt was very professional and caring. She did great work and I felt at ease in her care. However, clearly her practice has grown over the years and unfortunately, that growth has led to a poorer experience. For the last two years, I have felt pressured to do work and when I ask whether Dr. Klein can perform it, since I am most comfortable with her, I've been told that she doesn't do basic dental work anymore and instead has hired numerous other dentists to fill in. Whereas Dr. Klein used to come in after cleanings to check in and/or perform fillings, caps, etc I haven't been seen by her for two years. Some of the other dentists lack any bedside manner and others are perfectly nice but clearly pressure you to get work done asap. I decided to stop coming here on my last visit about a month ago when: 1.) Again, Dr. Klein was nowhere to be seen. 2.) I was told to get a panoramic xray to look for "infection". 3.) I was told I needed a tooth pulled and replaced with an implant (over $2,000) because of minor pain that only occured when I ate very hard food. 4.) I was again told to have this major dental surgery that day and asked no less than 3 times if I would get it done the same day, 5.) When I said I wouldn't, I was given a print out of cost and then told if I call back and pay by the end of the day I would be given 10% off - what? Is this a furniture sales place? And last but certainly NOT least... As I checked out, I saw a huge white board with profit goals written all over it. This place cares about something, its just not their patients care. I found another dentist which of course confirmed I did not need a tooth pulled. Sorry to leave this place after five years but it isn't what it used to be. read more

I was so nervous going to a new dentist and everyone at Apex, from the lady answering the phone and getting me in the same day, to going over my insurance coverages, to actually extracting a tooth, was handled with such care, compassion and expertise. a very friendly and compassionate crew of professionals. After a routine cleaning with no symptoms, a friend was told she needed a crown and pressured with a discount if she had the procedure done "today". Ick. I went a short time later and had the same experience (no symptoms, same pressure/offer, complete with descriptions of the root canal I would need if I didn't get the crown). I declined and then sought a second opinion from two other dentists in the area. Both said the same thing: you don't need a crown. SUPER sketchy. read more
