I first went to Mary Gregory approximately 20 years ago when the dentist I routinely saw would not (could not?) do a needed root canal.

I left the office crying because it was so overwhelming AND PAINFUL (my back is arching in the chair as I'm gripping the arm and the hygienist just keeps stabbing deep for her "exam"...), the doctor had no sympathy. He was a cold, deadpan jerk. I go to a second dentist, they tell me I'm perfectly fine and Westover must've been in it just to make money off me. They walked me through my XRays to point out how everything was the way it should be. Disgusting that Westover Dentistry is so corrupt to try to scam a healthy 23 year old girl because they're so money hungry.

The dentist didn't come In until the last 20 minutes, he started his exam, told me I had some sort of TMJ (didn't explain what that meant), requested another x ray, and then left the room. He never came back to finish my exam or explain any of my results. A different hygienist basically just told me I could leave after I waited another 10 minutes for him to come back. In addition to all this, they discussed my medical history and medications within earshot of other patients which made me incredibly uncomfortable. Overall a terrible experience and I will not be returning.

But since I pay for a dental plan through my job, I figured I might as well not waste that money. I called to schedule an appointment and the receptionist told me there was an appointment available at 7:50am the next day. I had whiplash from how fast that was. My hygienist, Ingrid, is probably the nicest human being I have ever met. I had to do a procedure which required numbing via needle - consequence of putting this appointment off so long :( - but she was so thoughtful as to apply anesthetic gel so I wouldn't feel the needle going in. She also said, "Close your eyes" before she started so I wouldn't see this giant ass needle flying towards my face. In retrospect, she kind of treated me like a child, but in this situation it is EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED. From a financial standpoint, she was very clear about what procedures she was going to perform and what my insurance would cover. She even suggested how I can space out my appointments to maximize insurance coverage. Yay. At the end she kept thanking me profusely for how great I was and how tiring it must have been to have my mouth open for so long (insert joke here). She also said, "Thank you for being so brave!" which I appreciated, because I was.

I recently had my 6 month regular check up with FC Family Dentistry and was VERY pleased with their level of customer service, care, and friendliness! Dr. Gul was excellent, providing thorough explanations of their approach to cleaning and care and asked me at least twice if I was experiencing any pain during my cleaning (I felt nothing!). Before and after the cleaning she explained why she was recommending X-rays and the three issues she'd identified, stating that she would confirm the level of urgency via the X-rays. The equipment used was modern and Dr. Gul provided a thorough assessment of my teeth and gums based on the X-rays. In the end, she explained that she would continue to monitor the situations vs. take immediate action and counseled me on how to avoid making things worse. This was so refreshing, as many dentists are often looking for ways to charge you for things you may or may not need. Dr. Gul's beside manner and that of her technician's was kind, warm, caring, and gentle. I am so pleased to have found a dental practice that focuses on the needs of their patients and treats them with such warm care vs. rushing them in and out! Thank you FC Family Dentistry for taking great care of me and my daughter on our first visit! Looking forward to a long relationship with your practice!

After 10 years, I am taking the time and effort to move on to a different dental office, which takes a bit of effort. And the reasons why are very serious and if you have a family, you especially need to take these warning into account. I see there are few good reviews (and some clearly fake) for this dental office, well then, for the few real ones - they must have just had a simple cavity. Just give it time- they will figure out this place is no good. 1. Dental offices are required by the medical board to have an emergency number/contact number for patients. On 4 different occasions (2x broken tooth, cavity fell out, crown fell out) I contacted their emergency telephone number and text them on the number. Absolutely no response. Later, on a Monday they lightly reference, that they may have gotten my messages. Today, I found out that they failing to respond or monitor their emergency phone/contact is actually a violation on the medical board. And if I care to, I could file a complaint. Here's why they are failing besides not caring: it's a very small office. One dentist, who uses one young part-time dentist in training and an office manager/secretary- so a 3-person operation. Yep, not much. And they are not open/doing business Friday-Sunday. Yep, closed three days a week. So, God help you if something bad happens to you or your family Friday thru Sunday. They are not going to respond to you, and they are not going to come in to help you or your child, if they or you are hurt. See the problem. Over time, you or your family are going to need special help on a Friday-Sunday. It's going to happen eventually. And when you call the emergency line/text for them (which they are required by Virginia Medical Board to respond to). They will not respond, and they will not help. 2. So, they are a very small operation. 3-person operation and many, many times, they do not pick up the telephone. Basically, they screen calls using their caller id. Yep, not very nice. So, for example (and there are other examples), I've called to ask if a crown has come in. Then later I'd call again to inquire. LOL and guess what, no answer. I call and I call- no answer. Yep, screening calls. Lately, I eventually figured it out and just went over there to talk to them. I just live around the block, so it's no big deal. But recently it made me think. LOL, they been doing this for years. They screen calls using caller id and they don't pick up. Yes. It's kind of funny to think about at first, but when you think about it. It's pretty messed up and if you live a distance away, I guarantee this will be extremely aggravating to you. So, I've read a bunch of these 5-star reviews from people, and they are all nice and cute.... give it some time and real need- you'll find out when they fail you. Also, some real observation. I know people want to be nice, but I was nice with Dr. Dorjee for 10 years and objectively examining her performance ...not good. If she cared, she would respond to the emergency message/texts....if she cared. Guess what, I've figured out, she doesn't. 3. She (Dr. Dorjee) seems to be rotating a lot of young dentists in and out of the office and getting them to do the work. And when I say the work, I mean all the work. Everything from cavity filling to crowns. And she has USED different ones over the year. Recently, for my crown (and I don't normally don't ever do this) I had to look at the person as ask if they have done this procedure before or if I'm first. They looked like they were 19. And I said it in a way, that I needed them to be honest with me. I said it nice, but direct. I had to. So, this has been going on for a while. 4. I've read some of these five-star reviews and they are kind of the same length, and they all seem to sound the same. Alot of "best cleaning I've ever had" and "I was comfortable and enjoy my cleaning soooo much". LOL: I know the young office manager/secretary and these 5-star reviews are her. She's creating a bunch of accounts and talking how great a cleaning and how comfortable and "soooo friendly" lol. Totally her. 5. She has no respect, and she does not care. Sorry, but if she did ... she wouldn't be doing and acting the why she does. I've given her a bunch of chances over the years, because I live right around the corner. But enough is enough.

I was attended to by Dr. Luke Navarro, who removed the damaged crown and extensively drilled the molar tooth beneath it. Later that evening, after the effects of the novocaine had diminished, I began to suffer from severe pain near the crown, necessitating the daily intake of six ibuprofen tablets for relief. I returned to Dr. Navarro regarding the ongoing pain. That evening, I sent a message to Dr. Navarro indicating that I had developed a deep cut in my gum near the temporary crown. He arranged for me to come in on two days later. During that visit, Dr. Navarro photographed the temporary crown and the surrounding area, discovering that the crown was indeed cutting into my gum and causing pain. He removed the temporary crown and made adjustments, attributing the issue to his assistant who had initially placed it. However, he failed to ensure that the crown fit properly before allowing me to leave the office. He also provided several explanations for the pain I was experiencing, suggesting that a root canal was likely unavoidable. These explanations were never provided to me until that day. Additionally, I observed that Dr. Navarro did not wash his hands during any of my three visits. While he occasionally used hand sanitizer before donning gloves, there was at least one occasion when he did not use sanitizer at all. He shook my hand and immediately put on gloves before proceeding to place his hands in my mouth. Before my first appointment with Dr. Navarro, I experienced no discomfort in the tooth beneath my crown. However, following the extensive drilling performed by Dr. Navarro and his failure to ensure that the temporary crown fit correctly, I have endured severe pain for several weeks. Consequently, I will now incur additional expenses to rectify the issue. Dr. Elsadig and Christina, the office manager called me immediately after my complaint. They were extremely sympathetic and apologetic. Dr. Elsadig and Christina went above and beyond and provided me an amazing solution to the issue I experienced at the office. I have never met a dentist or office manager as nice, friendly, and caring about their patients. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. NADA ELSADIG! If you go to this dental office, please see her!
