The insurance company proceeded to low-ball me by saying my 20 year old roof just needed a repair job rather than a replacement. I was at wits end on how to proceed as it was obvious that my roof needed replacement rather than repair. Shingles were blowing off my roof. That is when Nelson Roofing came to my rescue. David went above and beyond the call of duty by going up on my roof and documenting the actual damage along with the poor condition to the rest of my roof. Since the trustworthiness of roofers in general is lower than it is for any groups except used car salesmen and congress people, I ignored each offer. Then, Colleen from Regal Restoration Services in Kennesaw rang my doorbell with a different pitch. She explained that since the kind of shingles on my roof had developed so many problems, they were no longer manufactured. Since they were no longer manufactured, there was no way to replace them with a similar style. Because of this, some insurance companies were willing to replace the entire roof for just the cost of the deductible. She offered a free inspection to determine if we were eligible. We set up the inspection, Nick checked out the roof, said he believed there were enough damaged shingles to make us eligible, and asked what we wanted to do. We went to the Internet, Angies List, friends, and neighbors to check out our shingles and Regal. We learned that we wouldn't be able to sell our house without replacing the shingles. We found that though Regal is a relatively new company, its management has many years of experience. We also discovered that the reviews for Regal were better than for most roofers, and so we decided to give Regal a try. It's a good thing we did. Nick and the construction team were on time for every appointment, answered questions I had about roofs that no one else ever had, and completed the job -- and clean up -- on our 2000 square-foot roof in a day. Today, we have a new roof for the cost of our insurance deductible. This never would have happened without the considerable knowledge, skill, and experience Nick has in working with insurance companies. I don't know whether roofers in general deserve a bad reputation, but I know that Regal could not be better, more professional, or more pleasurable to work with and that's saying something. Initially, the insurance was only going to pay for a partial roof replacement along with some ceiling repairs, but after Shay worked his magic, they not only agreed to reroof the whole thing, but they also agreed to redeck it as well. The roof replacement actually took place today, and I couldn't be happier with the results! First of all, Adam Chastain, who oversaw everything, is awesome at what he does. He's great at communicating and was easy to get in contact if I needed anything. Best of all, he guided his team to do top-notch work for me at every phase of the job...from the decking installation, to the drip edges on the rake edges and the eave edges, flashing around the dormers, to the actual installation of the shingles themselves, and more. Additionally, Adam had his team do a couple of things that weren't even called for in the contract like replacing the decrepit flashing around my chimney and having them seal and repair a leaky attic window that had been the source of a lot of water damage in the past. They will offer a free roof inspection for hail damage with a drone. When they find that damage, they offer to help you submit that claim with your insurance company. They tell you they will replace your roof and all you have to pay is your insurance policy deductible. That's a pretty good deal for a new 30-year roof, right? Their price to replace your roof will be exactly whatever amount your insurance company approves for damage plus your deductible. Before you agree to anything in writing, get Preferred Exteriors to quote you the price to replace your roof BEFORE anything is submitted to your insurance company. If the cost to replace your roof is $25K, and if your insurance company approves $30K in damage, you will overpay these guys by several thousand dollars. And you will also unnecessarily be paying your insurance deductible out of your own pocket.

There was a vague allusion to some storm damage from last year's hurricane that never made it here (even though they hadn't inspected anything.) I never got a quote and told them I wasn't interested, then received excuses instead of what I needed and warnings about how hard it is to call my insurance company and file a claim. Without knowing anything about the job a number of $14,000 or so was tossed out after informing them we were not interested. Another company (Mancilla Roofing) did a thorough inspection, climbed up on the roof and listed things they needed to do specifically, gave us materials samples to mull over, and quoted $9,000 for the entire job to include replacing all the roof vents and features, and even running a magnet over the property to find any nails that may have escaped their work area. These guys seem to be locking themselves into potential customers through the insurance company immediately to pretty much name their price and prevent anyone else from competing with them. I didn't get the feeling that any of this was on the level, but I am guessing that if they can overcharge insurance companies enough this way their actual roofing work should be done pretty well and they wouldn't have to cut corners. The other reviewers here who don't seem to understand how their insurance works all gave them 5 stars after all.
