He did a water test and then wrote up several quotes that started at over $6K and exceeded $10K on the high side. I explained (and he saw) that the house was already plumbed with a working bypass and drain line. I also told him that their quotes were much higher than all the research I had done on replacement units. He told me they were " a bit more because they are a 'larger company' ". He also charged me the standard $100 service fee - So I essentially paid them for a "sales" call! I ordered a 48K grain system with 10% cross-linked resin and a Fleck 5600 control head for $750.00 from an online plumbing supply store with great reviews. I then ordered about $50 worth of water lines and a few PVC fittings. In 30 minutes it was hooked up and working perfectly. I am all for buying local. But I cannot comprehend what Lasco could put in their resin or what type of controller upgrade they can offer that justifies a price $5,000 more than I was able to obtain. There would be, at most, one or two hours of time needed for installation. I would encourage anyone needing a water softener to check around before agreeing to pay such an outrageous amount from Lasco. It upsets me when I imagine my parents or other vulnerable people believing these guys and agreeing to these crazy prices.

Reliable is definitely very RELIABLE! Less then two years ago, they replaced our old worn out…read morefurnace with new unit... A mid range unit (Goodman) was selected to reduce some costs. The removal and replacement process was excellent all around. The unit ran well over the period. There some minor water leaks, but not their issue. They fixed these during the 1 year inspection they provide. All was well it seemed. Then earlier this month (December 2023) they had a deal to come out and inspect the furnace for no charge. They came out, and found the heat exchanger in it was cracked and leaking CO.... The furnace had to be shut down as a result. Goodman has a published 10 year warranty including the heat exchanger however, no labor was covered. Reliable contacted Goodman, but no luck in getting the labor covered and replacing the heat exchanger was not a great option. They went to work and provided us with an amazing solution...replace the entire furnace with a new better model....all at no charge. On their nickel!!! I am just absolutely amazed they did this for us, and further they were here with the new unit in a few days, and replaced the defective unit with the new Heil. Also amazing, they were able to remove the existing furnace and complete the new installation in about a half of a day!!! These guys are incredible and very professional. There was only one minor glitch and I called them late afternoon after they left, and again was amazed as they came right back out within a few hours and fixed the issues and all was well... This is a company that not only talks about great customer service, but they live it. Everyone from the fantastic techs that were here, to Kenton the owner, and the office staff went far above and beyond for us... I would only wish more companies provided such excellent service! If you need a few furnace and/or AC, these are the guys you can trust!

If I could give Metropolitan Appliance Repair zero stars, I would. I own a Bosch dishwasher in a…read moresummer home that is less than 18 months old and has been used fewer than 20 times. Unfortunately, it stopped working. When I contacted Bosch, they provided a voucher that would cover all repair costs and informed me that Metropolitan was the only authorized Bosch repair provider in the Mears area. Metropolitan came out and performed repairs, but the dishwasher still was not functioning properly. They returned two or three additional times and eventually told me the issue was caused by excessive suds. I followed their recommended procedure to eliminate the suds, yet the dishwasher still does not work correctly. When I contacted Metropolitan again, I was told they would no longer service the unit and that I should call Bosch to find another repair company--even though Bosch is covering all repair costs through their voucher program. As a result, I now have to start over with Bosch and hope they can locate another authorized repair service in the area. If they cannot, I may be forced to pay for repairs out of pocket, which is ridiculous considering Bosch has already approved and offered to cover the repair expenses. What makes this experience even more frustrating is the extremely poor customer service I received from Metropolitan. After multiple visits, no resolution, and being told they would no longer service the appliance, I felt completely disregarded as a customer. Their handling of this situation was unprofessional, disrespectful, and showed little concern for either the customer or Bosch's reputation. Based on my experience, Bosch should seriously reconsider Metropolitan's status as an "authorized" or "approved" repair provider. A company representing the Bosch brand should be willing to stand behind its work and make a reasonable effort to resolve a customer's issue--not walk away from it. I am extremely disappointed with the service and would not recommend Metropolitan Appliance Repair to anyone.

They damaged a boiler pipe in my home, which resulted in us needing…read moreto get a plaster company out to open the ceiling, the boiler company to come and repair the pipe, and the plaster company to come back out and repair the hole. I was informed by Kleyn that they would cover the cost of the repairs as it was their electrician who damaged the pipe. After spending my time finding the least expensive contractors to make the repairs and taking time off work to be there for the repairs, Kleyn informed me they would not be covering the cost of the plaster repair, approximately $875. They told me this after the repair had been made, leaving me on the hook for the entire cost. Damaging the pipe is one issue, refusing to cover the repair costs after promising to cover them is a second issue. I am now having to go through insurance to make sure I am not on the hook for damage they caused. With all the other electricians in the Grand Rapids area, there's no reason to go with them.

So began a horrible year of having both my kitchen and guest/sewing room being reconstructed. Meanwhile, racks of clothing and shelves of patterns, material, bed, pictures on the wall, and racks of thread were soaked. He blamed a faulty washer, but never showed it to me. I had to cancel my brother and his family visiting for Thanksgiving - after I had bought hundreds of dollars of food - my brother who I had not seen in a long time. A couple of months into restoration, the kitchen plumbing started to leak again, the day before I was to leave for a 2 week vacation. The pipes now make a bloop sound every half hour, or so. He claimed not to hear it, but his employees heard it. He's a slimy liar. When he called a few years later wanting to check and service the system, I put him off because I can't trust him. I live in constant fear that the whole thing is going to explode again. If I hadn't been there and wanted to show the contraption under the kitchen sink, it would've ruined the entire condo instead of a third of it - therefore, going away is fraught with fear of what might be happening in my home. He did not show sympathy, just slimy excuses, leaving me with a years-long horror show.

They did a great job of helping us get everything repaired. They returned in the summer to repair a leak under the kitchen sink. And at 1am this morning (Dec 6) I called because of the sound of running water under the kitchen sink. They help me get the water shut off and came out in the morning to fix the outside faucet that had broken from ice falling on it. Everyone has been very helpful, professional and reasonably priced. I highly recommend them.
