I met first with the owner, Jesse, and later with Jesse Jr., to discuss a driveway project that included grading. Both presented themselves very well. Because of the terrain, it was difficult for me to fully visualize how the finished job would turn out, so there was a bit of a "see as we go" aspect to for me. However, Jesse Jr. had an exact plan. What truly impressed me was the speed and efficiency of their work. At one point, two other individuals who work regularly with heavy machinery moving dirt and rock stopped by, and they were in awe. The original estimate was best case one day which we all know that means more than one day. Not the case with APCO. The job was completed so quickly they did not need to stop for lunch. They literally removed a retaining wall + concrete, graded and laid asphalt for a driveway plus additional side parking in the same time my carpenter finished removing and redoing the trim on a single window at the home. They came out to do a job in San Rafael and hooked my friend truck with some chains and a bobcat to the street. They dragged the jeep rubicon and scratch the bumpers. With out permission. Mike, the estimator, spent considerable time working with me on the contract. Their bid was the lowest. When one significant requirement was overlooked in the bid, APCO offered to include it without changing the cost; this REALLY impressed me. APCO showed up at 7am on the scheduled date and met with me to go over exactly what we wanted. This owner and son led crew have worked together for years and the efficiency with which they work is amazing! The road was ground out, recompacted with added base, paved with 120 tons of asphalt in two lifts, and rolled -- all in one day. They work quickly, but more importantly, they take great pride in their work. The end product was exactly what we had hoped for. I had a very old asphalt driveway in absolutely terrible shape. Put off repaving it for too, too long. Asked on Nextdoor for recommendations. Got a recommendation of APCO and an address to look at the job APCO did last year for them. Checked it out and it looked great including a pressure treated 2 x 4 wood border. Also found another company using high Yelp reviews and got two estimates. Mike from APCO show up on time and listened to my needs which included regrading for better drainage, underground drain pipes from three house downspouts and better transgression from driveway to street to prevent bottoming out. Mike understood. Was very professional. Gave me an on the spot 'ballpark" estimate which I assured him I would not hold him to but came within $500 of actual written estimate (Mike has many years of experience so you would think he could do this). Had to chase other company to get their estimate to me. APCO's estimate was thorough and more than competitive. They had a time available two weeks out but my schedule was an issue so we booked 3 weeks out, then several days later my schedule changed and Mike rescheduled me for two weeks out. Very accommodating. APCO showed up as scheduled promptly at 7:45am to begin work at 8am. Jesse Jr. walked me through his understanding of the project. We discussed my goals and he gave me complete confidence that they would all be met. APCO showed up with two Bobcats, paving machine, steamroller, two hand driven compactors, two dump trucks and 8 workers and all of the other tools needed. I was very intrigued by the entire process and operation. Demolition took about an hour. Then regrading. Then installing the boarder which took much time and effort. Then the drainage. I provided the drain pipes and parts. I thought I was going to have to install them, but they jumped in and did it all! Jesse Jr. even came up with a additional drain idea and gave me the needed t-connector out of his truck. Talk about on top of it and accommodating. Then compacting the underlayment. Then the actual paving. I cannot even express how thoughtful, thorough and professional they all were every step of the way. This was not a slipshod, quick let's just get it done, take the money and go operation. This was PRIDE in their work. The team obviously has been together for quite some time. They worked seamlessly together. I watched them all day. I have no idea where the few reviewers that said there was a demeaning atmosphere got that idea. This crew all worked together,took breaks and lunch together and most importantly worked side by side all day. Plus no one worked harder than Jesse Jr. who did it all, including the most manual and physical parts of the job among other things. Jesse Sr. was there first thing in the morning and then came back for the actual asphalt paving as he drove the steamroller(I'm sure that not the actual, correct name-but you get the idea). Jesse Jr drove the paving machine. I think one of the ways you can tell how good and how professional a family owned business like APCO is, is by how they treat their equipment. Trucks looked brand new. I watched as they took 20-30 minutes to cleanup the paving machine ( which also looked new) after they finished. They swept and used a leaf blower to clean up. I am just so impressed, all for a 2900 square foot driveway. I would not hesitate to hire this crew. Great price. Great performance. Quality product. Highly professional. Friendly. Communicative. Beware !!!! Seemingly honest decent rep comes in and says the right things, sets a price, responsive, fabulous right? Wrong. They show up at 6 pm and the repair job to 2 12'x4' locations is all that was needed but we had to do in the dark by the lights of my car? serious. Friday Evening. The previous contractor did not return and had left a temp slurry material which was breaking up throwing rock into street and pot holes. The request was to repair the 2 areas, pave and seal coat so matches rest of the street. Right? easy enough. I get there in the dark, they poured the same slurry over the site and sanded it down heating it at some points. I said "this is the same stuff that was there, the city will not ok." response"we do it all the time , fine" it was not. City kicked it, rocks flew, said"this is crap, it will be a pot hole in 6mth" . Company said TOO BAD... hung up on me, professional. It was a quick $2500 on the way home Friday night. Thats all I was.. Dont trust them. Scam Note: The mgr/owner /? was abusive and demeaning,hung up on me as soon as I opened my mouth to explain my issue. Long review- but worth the read!! The APCO crew literally just left my house. They arrived here at 8AM and finished my new asphalt job by 1:30PM. I had been waiting for over 15 years to decide and finally get a new driveway. Living with patched pot holes, cracks, root intrusion etc. Finally over a month ago I hit yelp and the internet and friend recs and started doing research. I got estimates from 9 different companies for the various materials; asphalt, over-lay, replacement, concrete, stone pavers. I had estimates for the same materials from almost all the companies to do a thorough comparison of each and the pros and cons. Due to my area and size of the driveway (2400SF) I selected asphalt. My first hesitation was the few bad yelp reviews on these guys, but I am not someone who doesn't do their homework so I started searching deeper and saw that they had reviews in many other places that were all very good, so these two really made no sense to me. I got in touch with Mike, who must be the estimator, he responded and spoke to me about my job, options etc. I was busy so requested we take it to text since I couldn't talk. He agreed, so we did. I explained what I wanted, my budget, that I knew my stuff and really just wanted the right people to do it for my price since I knew the averages etc. and was not trying to spend college tuition on a driveway. He understood and said he would quote it and get back to me soon. The next day, he gave me the number, which was in line with my budget and one of the lower of the group. I went with my gut, liked he was a straight shooter, was accommodating and texted quickly, so I went with them. They were set to come a week later. They had a cancellation and called me and asked if they could come sooner, as in the next day! The issue was we had an old car (not running) in the driveway and that would have been an issue. He assured me they would help either move it or help the tow truck, whatever I needed they would do. I again, went with my gut, agreed and they showed up at 8AM. Tow truck came an hour later and needed help. The crew, including the owner himself, got in there and helped AAA, they moved the car and hours later the driveway was done! They never hesitated to help. They were clean. Their price super competitive. Their work was excellent and they were all friendly and very respectful of me, my time and my home. I have already recommended them to a friend and will continue to do so, including my own clients. I was very pleased and am so grateful. Thanks guys! read more

Use these guys! We have a long private road that hasn't seen any repair for 20+ years. Apco said they would grind, grade, compact and asphalt our street in a day. I really didn't think they could. They did. A beautiful job. Jesse and the Apco crew have obviously worked together for some time. They were efficient, worked hard and steadily, and were total professionals. They gave a bid twice as high as everyone else I called, literally twice as much and Jesse's reasoning was complete BS. Further, their reference (the one I saw them paving) told me how terrible and unprofessional they were to deal with. Out of area contractors are much less expensive I have found. read more

We recently hired APCO Paving to pave a large part of our driveway in Napa - they scheduled us in quickly, came early on the day of the job and worked through the day to complete the project within a day. The work was done well and they worked with us when we had some minor changes/tweaks. The owner and owner's son were both on site and working with the crew to make sure everything was done right. They brought in several large machines to grade the area, lay the asphalt and roll it smooth - an impressive operation. APCO Paving was disappointing. I would never hire them. They came out, did the measurements, and said that I would have a bid in 24 hours. Over a day later the estimator called and said that he must have misspelled my email so I gave it to him again. He said that he would send out the bid when he got back to the office. We had a complicated paving situation that included regrading a 180'+ driveway to meet specific drainage requirements and work around an old oak tree that that had roots growing under the driveway. We had several contractors provide recommendations and quote the work. After careful evaluation of the quotes, reviews, and availability during the time window we had to work with we selected Apco. Mike was very thorough with his explanation of the work that was to be done and we knew we were in good hands. On the day of the paving a whole fleet of equipment and a team of workers showed up right on time along with Jessie the owner. All the workers I met had been with Apco for years, and it was clear they knew what they were doing. After quick but careful work of removing the existing pavement Jessie ensured the grading was done just right, and was especially careful around the oak tree where he had to grade right up to the root without damaging it. It was impressive watching everyone on the team work the large equipment including a grinder, two Bobcat tractors, several dump trucks of various sizes, a grader, a paving machine and a multi-ton riding roller all within a small residential driveway. The work was all completed within a day. We are very happy we went with Apco and I give them my highest recommendation. read more
