Kudos for Steve and the Gardelle Construction & Landscaping team for their excellent work updating my front yard landscaping. They planted a beautiful tiered garden of box hedge, azalea and more and added rock gardens around the established trees, creating depth and variety below the porch that coordinates well with the style and color of the house. They installed much-needed path lighting and added charming lighting in the trees with spot lighting from below--all on timers for maximum effect and convenience. They made some improvements to the back yard as well, creating a flagstone patio for our outdoor dining table, adding a flagstone path through our azalea/hydrangea garden for better access, and a flagstone pad--a nice level surface--at the water spigot. From planning to execution, working with Steve and his team was smooth and collaborative. They took what we had envisioned for the space and elevated it with their expert design. The finished product is fabulous. My front yard not only looks great--people stop and comment how lovely it is--it also has added to the property value and is worth the investment! The quality and expertise of Gardelle's work alone speaks for itself, but it doesn't stop there. Steve and the team were great to work with, finished the job on time, and left the work area spotless each day. Five stars for Gardelle. We highly recommend them! --Don and Judy Maderious read more

My family first used Gardelle Landscaping & Construction in 1996 when we bought a brand new home. Steve and his crew came in to nothing but a pile of dirt and designed and implemented both our front and back yards which included brick steps, lawn, beautiful greenery and of course an entire sprinkler system, front and back. We next used Gardelle in 2004 when we bought a fixer upper. This job was a complete demo and re-do. Once again, Gardelle designed a beautiful front and back yard including new concrete decking around the pool, outdoor kitchen, pergola, brick porch, plants, trees, etc. And now in 2026 we had Gardelle back to do some updating to both our front and back yard. Through all three projects over the course of 30 years, Gardelle's word and work has been exceptional and beyond reproach. Gardelle's team is there when they say they will be there and do the work they say they are going to do. Every. Single. Time. Steve and Iliana in the office are extremely responsive and correct issues immediately, even going so far as to fix problems on their own dime, even if its the customers fault. And I should know because over the course of 30 years and 3 projects, I've made a few mistakes! Their quotes are not the cheapest nor are they the most expensive but in this case, even if they were the most expensive, I would still use them every single time simply because the company treats their customers right. It's a rarity in today's world to find a company that is true to their word and stands by their work. I cannot possibly recommend Gardelle Landscaping & Construction any more. The staff and Steve Gardelle are second to none. read more

We recently had Steve and his team complete a major project at our house. We were replacing lawn areas in the front yard and backyard and extending an existing aggregate patio in the back. We also added a large 16' diameter circular brick patio and 6' diameter fire pit in the back. We replanted both the front and backyard with drought tolerant plants and had drip irrigation installed in both areas. Steve's team, headed by Luis and Francisco, along with Jaime, Jose and Jesus, the mason, were amazing to work with! They arrived on time, worked throughout the day and cleaned up afterwards everyday! Iliana, Steve's office manager was also a joy to work with! Whenever we had a change, Steve was always considerate of our thoughts and needs and quickly made the changes in conjunction with his team The level of respect that the entire team exhibited was so awesome! We loved seeing them all, everyday, and were actually a little sad when the job was completed. We could not be happier with the process and the results that we got from Steve and his team! read more

Steve, Luis, and his crew did an excellent job adding pavers and artificial turf to my parent's front and back yard. Everything looks great, and the work was completed with the quality and professionalism we expected and truly appreciated. The maintenance crew came to fix the broken pipe during the regular maintenance visit. Steve, the owner did email me regarding this matter. It shows that they really value the customers' comments and complaints, unlike many other businesses that do not. This is a good thing and that's why I have revised their ratings back to 5 stars!! read more

Steve Gardelle and his crew did an amazing job on our embankment last summer. Exactly what I wanted and exactly what I asked for. A few months ago I contacted Steve about one plant I was concerned about. He told me to watch it and if it didn't come back he would replace it. When I called back to follow up with him, he came out to see and he assured me it was coming back but HE wasn't happy with it and HE wanted to replace it. He came thru and replaced it today. We really appreciate your customer service and your guys were right on time, professional and made sure everything was perfect. THANK YOU!!!!! read more

We asked Gardelle to help out put downspout drains and sump pits. They did a great job in a short time for a competitive price. Steve visited personally most days of the job and ensured finishing touches were also completed. I will definitely go to Gardelle in the future for my landscaping needs. read more

What a great experience! From start to finish Steve and his team were professional, timely and extremely hard working. We had our front and backyards completely landscaped and to our amazement the bulk of the project was completed in 4 weeks. Both Steve and his office manager, Iliana were easy and quick to communicate with, and the crew onsite were friendly and some of the hardest workers I've ever seen. Thank you Gardelle Construction and Landscape for implementing our plans to a tee and bringing to life a front and backyard we will enjoy for years to come! read more

We had a great experience working with Steve and his team on our backyard remodel. Our project scope included pavers, artificial grass, composite deckwith lighting, pavilion with polycarbonate cover, lights, fan, heaters, as well as an outdoor kitchen that included multiple cooking surfaces and refrigeration units. Steve was great as we worked through our ideas and designs and gave us honest feedback on different questions we had. We had to deal with a number of material / supply chain challenges which stretched our schedule, but Steve graciously worked around them. The crew was very respectful and kept the job site as clean as possible. I also really appreciated the level of communication Steve kept with me, as well as my ongoing communication with the crew. They regularly came to me with questions as they were met with various decision points, allowing me to decide before proceeding. We've recommended Steve to a number of our friends for landscaping needs, and one is already in contract for another sizable project. Very happy customers! read more

Great work. My house the best looking in my court. I had no idea on what kind of plants to use and the owner gave me suggestions. Very pleased. read more

I would say from start to finish, Gardelle Construction was on their "A" game. This included the designing our front and backyard w/ Steve, which was very helpful as he laid out a functional and esthetically pleasing space that we envisioned. Then the crew began our 3 week project. Each phase of the build went smoothly as our materials arrived in a timely manner and were installed with great care. Upon completion, we were provided a detailed operational tour of are lighting, fire pit and sprinkler system. The whole project came out exactly how we planned, see attached pics. Overall, we had a great experience working with Gardelle Construction and would highly recommend them. They are a certified, professional organization that stand behind their work with a strong guarantee! read more

When contemplating your landscaping renovations, please consider using Gardelle Landscaping, Inc. Led by owner, Steve Gardelle, his pricing was competitive, his planning superlative, his coordination of all of the aspects of the job was outstanding and the finished product exceeded our expectations. Fast, friendly service and timely communication by Steve were major assets. He never said "No"... in this day and age, that is hard to say. He supervised the job and came to the job site 2X/day. Communication was timely. If you like to be kept informed, Steve is your guy. This is a five star review out of five stars..... Components of our landscape renovation included new fencing/new retaining walls/pavers/lighting/ synthetic turf/pergola-trellis installation/irrigation renovation/plant installation and he suggested the plant pallet. Experienced and confident from start to finish. I would not hesitate in using this firm again and would highly recommend that you consider this company for all of your landscaping needs -from soup to nuts, He can do it all! It truly is a peaceful retreat! We highly recommend Steve Gardelle. read more

Steve and team just completed a big project for our house in Lafayette. They built us a new deck, added pavers, new plants and landscaping all around the property. The work was all exceptional and Steve was flexible and communicative throughout the process. We're extremely happy with the end result and are already enjoying all the additions. I would highly recommend Gardelle to others and hope to work with them again! read more

I would describe our experience with Steve and his team at Gardelle construction as simple, straightforward, on time, honest, and well done. The team worked through the past winter's elements and finished our project on time and within budget. Steve checked our progress weekly and was always immediately responsive to our questions or requests. He never pressured us to go beyond our budget, instead always working with us to create our desired yard within our means. We will look to work with Gardelle Construction again in the future. read more

I wasn't planning on writing this review but consumers should know what they can expect years later after Gardelle Construction does a job. They completed our backyard drainage (rain garden), new sod, new plantings and new irrigation system in Spring of 2018. Since then, I've had to replace every sod/grass sprayer because the sprayers vs. the water volume was wrong. I've had whole sections of my grass area muddy and mossy because of too much water and one area that died. The entire planting bed(large) irrigation had to be re-done because Gardell was too lazy to install individual emitters or drip lines, they just put in sprayers, which all broke. Plants died as well. While one whole section of my planting bed got disconnected. I should add that during the entire installation phase Steve barely came out to the project and there was no one to properly manage the job. I had to instruct them on what to do first, second and third. Furthermore, it was pouring rain on plant installation day. No one could read the plans in the pouring rain and the foreman and Steve (who called me) got angry because I had to be there to place and move the plants around. Who else was going to do it? Not Gardell! Very frustrating that I had to manage the project. read more

Working with Steve Gardelle and his crew on our backyard project was fantastic. The project included a new patio, built in deck with hot tub, fire pit, and outdoor cooking area. Communication was excellent, his crews were friendly and the end results have made our backyard the place to be for our kids and their friends. We can't recommend him highly enough. If we make any changes to our front yard, he's the only person we are going to call. read more

We had Gardelle Construction completely redo our landscaping in both the front and backyards and replace all grass with artificial turf. They built beautiful retaining walls, created a walking pathway with DG lined with river rock and planted drought tolerant plants which we wanted. They did an amazing job! Steve was easy to work with, communicated with me regularly and his crew is outstanding. They asked me several questions along the way so we could have our yard the way we wanted it. I had a plan for them to use, but Steve made excellent suggestions which improved our overall project. We would recommend them in a heartbeat! Nancy H read more

Some 20 years ago I had a new front walkway done. Stamped and colored. Perfect job. Come September 2022 I waited four months for Steve to start my yard. Cement only. Like the other reviews, once the job starts you work with the laborers. Different guy in charge each time. Steve never comes back at job end. You just get the invoice. Cement stamping is terrible. Puddles as the slant is wrong. Their fix was to touch up the bad spots so it just looks like scabs on your skin. For $30K I would expect a far better job. I guess business is good as once completed, they disappear. Not the same company of 20 years ago. Customer loses again. This has turned into an email contact company once initial contract is signed. read more

Steve and team were recommended to me by my landscape architect and I couldn't be more pleased with Steve's experience, responsiveness and support. Our backyard project was what I would consider massive and the largest remodel I have ever endeavored. Pool, outdoor kitchen, complete landscaping, electrical, drainage, irrigation etc. It took nearly two years; timing was not in anyway a reflection of Gardelle construction, rather the crazy permit processes and severely surprises that necessitated retooling designs. Between all the different parties involved, Steve was by far the most on top of things. He also accommodated these many changes with ease and sincerity. I also appreciated that Steve was always happy to impart feedback where conceptual plans might not have made sense in practice, I know I could rely on his experience. I would definitely recommend to others as I have to many neighbors who have been impressed with the results as I have. Pictures to follow read more

Steve and his crew just finished a complete overhaul of our yard, front and back, and we are very happy with the results, communication, quality, and design work. Getting work done during the pandemic hasn't been easy - permits take forever, materials are back ordered, etc. Steve was flexible and was able to adjust his crew's schedule around these challenges and was by far the best to work with of all the contractors and subcontractors that were involved in the project. The crew works fast and clean, and Steve helped us evolve the design as we went instead of being rigid or slapping on change order fees. We will definitely call Steve for all future projects, and I highly recommend his company. read more

I had problems with this company from the beginning, owner said he would be here in the morning each day...only happened a couple of times. Trees and plants were planted too deep even after I showed landscaping guidelines to the workers. The drip irrigation was very poorly done and worst of all the gopher cages specified by the designer were done improperly and were a disaster. Orchard Nursery said it was unprofessional and the plant would not survive. I have lost about 1/3 of the plantings in the 5 years since the work was done. I had a big landscaping job done 25 years ago by someone else and did not lose a single plant. The reason I am writing this now is Pennie Rose from Living Arts was just here pruning and had to dig up a sickly rhododendron, the gopher cage (like the others) was chicken wire wrapped twice around the rootball. This prevented any roots from going through and growing, so the rootball was smaller than 5 years ago. We had to throw the plant away. Now I am going to dig up the other four rhododendrons and remove their cages hoping to allow the plants to finally grow from their original size. read more

This company used to be great, but now is a joke. 10 years ago, they did a wonderful job for us. When we needed some additional work done, we set up an appointment. When no one showed up, we called the office and were first told that the appointment was canceled because Mr. Gardelle had a dental appointment. When that didn't go over so well, Illiana shifted gears and told us that they no longer service our area and that an email had been sent to us about that. Needless to say, there is no email. Of course, a company can decide where it wants, or doesn't want, to do business. But this lack of communication is infuriating. I left work early to be here for nothing. We should've known something was up when it was nearly impossible to schedule the appointment. We figured it was because they were busy. It turns out they are incompetent. USE THIS COMPANY AT YOUR OWN RISK! read more

10/17/16 Update: I had a concrete contractor put in a wall with lighting last year (Panetta Concrete in Tracy) and the lighting went out. Tried calling Rocco, the owner, to fix, they never showed, and no one else could figure out the problem. I decided to call Gardelle and his lighting guru, Francisco, came over this morning and found the issue and fixed it; SO happy. Again, cannot recommend Gardelle Landscaping enough!! read more

Gardelle helped with doing some landscaping and Steve initially visited and was very knowledgeable. However, once we signed the contract he disappeared and was hardly seen again leaving the job to the laborers. Even when the job was finished, there was no walkthrough with Steve to explain what had been done and how to approach care & maintenance. Regarding quality of work...it was just so so. For example, they did not prep the soil before the sod was laid down which resulted in some dead sod as well as slow soil uptake. All this, and they are more expensive than their competitors. I definitely would not use them again as I saw limited value add. For the quality of work that they did, I wish I had deferred to the lowest bidder as the quality of work was no better. read more

Used this company in the last 12 months. A section of a new concrete walkway they poured was defective, color didn't match because the concrete wasn't mixed properly. Owner blamed it on a overhead tree shading the concrete and preventing it from drying. He said give it time to dry. I knew that was not the problem as did he. He doesn't tell the truth. One of his empoyee's cut a power cord to my fountain pump. He refused to replace the pump or at least replace the cord. All he would do was to repair an underwater cord?!?. I told him that was unacceptable and I replaced the pump at a cost of $90 On both the above two issues we worked a $400 credit on my bill. I would rather have had my concrete poured correctly and my pump replaced by the company. Finally, the owner showed up during the job for 10 or 15 minutes every second or third day; he wasn't around much. I felt I was the general on this job telling his people what to do. I would not recommend this company. read more

We had same experience as scott referenced here. Concrete poured was wrong color and is hideous. Outdoor bar built with inadequate footings so it is now cracking and sinking. Will cost 5,000 to redo correctly. His workers cut irrigation lines, outdoor lighting electrical lines, pulled out plants we liked, tried to fix hot tub and we had to have it re-repaired , and planted plants that never grew. Totally non-supervised workers. Would never hire again. read more

Just finished a front paver and trellis project with Gardelle. Steve was willing to work with me on the pricing, and was very competitive compared to other bids.
