Reserved a two hour sail for my fellow medical interns. Bruno was quick to respond by text, whereas email conversations were practically non-existent. I didn't get a final price until the day before the sail, but this was understandable considering the fluctuating headcount. They give you parking vouchers at the end so you only pay $8 at the Sheraton, or you can park across the street for $10. Either way, this was an added expense we did not know about until we got there. The sail itself was pretty fun. All the crew members were great and provided everyone with blankets and/or jackets given that it was extra windy that day. We also appreciated that they skipped the typical Navy tour, knowing that we were all Navy affiliated, and went to see some whales instead. We booked the Aolani for our family and close friends when my grandfather passed away to spread his ashes at sea. Booking with the company was easy and went without issue. When we arrived the day of the event, we came early with flowers and food for set up. The catamaran was not there, as it was still out with another group. We didn't think much of this. We put our food and decor on a counter next to where the boat would dock. We were told that once the boat was back, my mother, sister and I could board to set up the flowers and ashes on the table inside. My grandmother was receiving military honors for my grandfather just up on the grass area before we all went to the catamaran. When Aolani arrived, we did not have time to fully set up before the military salute, but this was ok as we needed to move the ashes and flowers once the salute was over. But while we were trying to arrange some of the flowers, I saw one of the crew members (JENNIFER) eating the food we brought for our guests. I thought it was pretty tacky of her to do that, but it was only a few grapes and wasn't going to say anything to her or my family. We walked up to the grass for the military honors. Just as the ceremony ended, my sister, mother and I ran back to the catamaran to finish setting up with the flowers and ashes. As we were walking onto Aolani with items in hand that same member of the crew (JENNIFER) physically moved to block us and very coldly instructed us to move to the front of the boat for a mandatory safety talk. We explained that we had ashes and flowers that needed to be set up inside before our guests came to the boat. Still blocking us, she said "you will have to discuss that with the captain"..... who was literally two feet away from her. My mother asked if we could go finish setting up before our guests come and very quickly he said "of course!". Jennifer let my mother through and then moved to block my sister and I from following (even though both of us had items in our hands) and again coldly repeated for us to proceed to the front of the boat. My mother was pretty angry at this point and yelled that she needed our help. While we were inside we listened to her bark at guest after guest to head to the front of the boat. No "hellos" or any kind words, just cold instructions. My sister said "does she know why we are all here? It was embarrassing and when we made our way to join our guests at the front, Jennifer and her rudeness was a topic of discussion already. The captain was very nice, and though the other crew member was clearly a little annoyed and stressed, she was very nice and accommodating for the most part. Jennifer wasn't done. We recently chartered the Aolani for a corporate event we were having on the evening of Sunday, June 9. We had approximately 45 people on board. Bruno was very helpful and called me the morning of the event to confirm and also to inform me that the boat would be coming back from a previous charter about 15 minutes before ours was supposed to sail. I informed him that we had food and drinks to bring on board so he directed us on exactly where to go with our items so that when the catamaran arrived, we could have it brought on board. (Kudos to the staff at the Sheraton who helped us wheel our stuff to the dock!) Once the catamaran arrived, Captain Stephen took away all of my worries. He and his staff of Jennifer & Shelby were SOOOO nice and helpful. They let us sit back and they took care of everything - bringing all of our items on board and setting it up for us. This was such a relief for me! We set sail and everything was perfect from then on out. Our guests were thoroughly impressed with the service and personal style of Captain Stephen. He made everyone feel at ease - even those who were nervous about being on a boat. He even came to the front and began telling us stories when we were passing the military vessels. All in all this was a wonderful experience and I can't think of a better way to see San Diego in all its glory than sailing with this crew. It was truly a memorable experience. One of the vendors I work with chartered the Aolani for a celebration. The sail around the bay was perfect. The captain was very relaxed, fun, and informative. The staff serving the food and drinks were also very kind and were on top of things. The food was good and they had a nice assortment of liquor, beer, and wine. There were plenty of seats around the Aolani and when the sun was setting and it got cooler, we were offered blankets and jackets. The crew made the sail very enjoyable and a lot of fun. Yelp was not around back when my wife and I first got married on the Aolani. To see this pop up in my Yelp feed flooded me with amazing memories of how special Aolani truly made our small wedding party feel. They accommodated every reasonable request we could make, including setting up our Julian Pie "wedding cake" PERFECTLY. They assisted us with a catering meal that was beyond delicious. He had us perfectly set up to conduct the ceremony right where Anthony's Fish Grotto used to be downtown. People cheered, hooted and hollered congrats to us. It was like we had thousands of people join us right at that moment! After helping us put together so much, the captain had a little secret in store for us and took us through a highly exclusive tour of some of the most luxuriously yachts ported in the bay for a special auction! This past weekend my wife and I had the pleasure of joining a group of about 40 or so people on a private chartered half-day catamaran cruise aboard the Aolani Catamaran. Convenient parking is provided for the half-day catamaran cruise at the Sheraton Harbor Island across from the airport ($8.00 with validated discount). We boarded the catamaran at 1:30 pm and joined a great group of people for a half-day harbor and ocean cruise (thanks go out to everyone, including Bill & Patti who invited us). Plenty of food & drinks were available, and some tropical island music enhanced the experience. We enjoyed the beautiful San Diego Skyline, gorgeous weather and enjoyable conversations. What we did not anticipate was seeing a cabin cruiser sinking off Point Loma. Fortunately, no one was on board and we got there in time for the captain to radio the harbor police who responded quickly. From what we gathered, someone decided to abandon ship! As we made our way back from the half-day catamaran cruise, we enjoyed passing by the naval ships and aircraft carriers located near the Coronado Bridge. As the sun was setting, the air grew cooler but the wonderful crew was prepared with blankets so we could enjoy the topside. We docked at 8:00 pm & departed back to our normal lives. Well I have time to write a review since our boat dropped us off at the wrong location and we missed our dinner reservations tonight for 24 ppl. When we discovered we were docked at the incorrect place, we told the crew we would discuss the gratuity later instead of the original amount. Rather, we wanted to ensure we wouldn't be billed in full for a contract that wasn't fulfilled. The boat captain, who was blatantly attention-starved as was evident at the start of his safety "entertainment" presentation, announced his disdain to the entire group at the end, quite literally ruining our whole experience we paid $2000 for. Went on an Aolani cruise this week and it was terrific! We were on a company trip without about 30 people. The boat felt spacious and not crowded at all. The crew was prepared for everything. A few people didn't realize how much cooler it could be on the water and didn't bring jackets. It was a nice surprise to see that the crew had a stack of blankets and jackets (even visors and sunscreen) for just such an occasion. Really nice! The crew was informative about the history of the harbor without boring you or droning on too long about it. We cruised up close to see submarines, colonies of seals and many other points of interest. I've done many other "harbor cruises" in the past and this was by far my favorite.
