We stayed with Boat BNB twice, and both times for a week. First time on General Yacht and recently on Goode Karma. I will add some pictures below. My bestie and I love to be on a water and living in hot Vegas it's really dreamy to us. Both boats were about 52 ft, 3 BD, 2BTH. Both decks have the most amazing views. Shaun is such pleasure to work with! Overall, super friendly staff, very clean, fantastic location with yummy restaurants around. Looking forward to rent it again. Thank you, BOATBNB!

This gem of a find fulfilled my fantasy of staying on a luxury sailboat with my beautiful wife (alas without bikini) overnight. Best $250 I ever spent. Get a look at the view from the back bedroom rear porthole windows!! I love the look of varnished wood throughout, and the layout inside was hugh. I would buy this in a heartbeat if God granted me the money to do so. Did you know Hollywood used the Slipaway in a full length movie?

THE most amazing weekend at the Boat BnB's Endless Summer! Always welcoming, accommodating, clean and relaxing! We never wanted it to end! This is our 2nd excursion to the Boat BnB and it won't be our last! THANK YOU, Shaun!

What an absolutely awesome idea. It is quite affordable and do different and better feeling than staying at a hotel. And the discounts at all the restaurants and awesome. Bali Hai is an institution, and it's just a short walk away. Can't beat the view. Never ever will I stay in a traditional hotel room, when I can stay on a beautiful boat. Everything was super clean. We had fruit basket, oatmeal, yogurts, freshly squeezed orange juice. A+

We had access to the entire first floor of a beautifully decorated historical home that will be 100 years old next year. The Mission Hills neighborhood was close to everything we wanted and needed -- shopping, parks, dining, beaches. But I must say my favorite part was chatting with Joan Crone during breakfast. A fascinating woman with an artist's love for all things simple and beautiful. Her art pieces on "plenty" and "small" challenged me to examine my definition of happiness. Was not expecting a spiritual connection on the trip, but happy to have found it. Thank you Joan.

Shaded by a sprawling pepper tree and sheltered by ranks of ferns, it is an oasis, complete with a porch swing and meditation garden, in an already quiet neighborhood. The Mission Hills business district is an easy ten-minute walk away, along streets with more nicely kept-up bungalows. From there, you can easily bus to Balboa Park and the Zoo in a half-hour or - with Joan's guidance - make a fun sightseeing trek down the hillside to the trolley and on the downtown and the harbor. At the end of the day, there are a number of very satisfying restaurants where you can relax and eat well before the peaceful walk home. Joan was very respectful of our privacy and our touristic initiatives. We, on the other hand, started conversations over breakfast that we would only reluctantly break off to make our way to the day's objective. Whether it involved geographical points of interest as a long-time San Diego resident, the arts and photography -- her area of training, Craftsman architecture and design or recent books we've read, there was never a dull moment. She encouraged us to look over books from her extensive library, including the charming "Little Free Library" built in the image of the Cottage and located right outside. We wholeheartedly recommend Crone's Cobblestone Cottage as a place to stay while visiting San Diego!

The negatives would be that the shower wasn't very clean, there was definitely hair from the person before us in there. Also we requested a crib when checking in, which was confirmed. Once we got back from exploring the city, there was no crib in our room and we were informed that housekeeping wasn't there anymore so we couldn't have one. The location of the hotel is also very convenient. Same thing happened when asking for two more extra pillows, they just never showed up. The hotel definitely has potential, especially with the renovated rooms being nice, but the crib situation was not okay.

AWARENESS: I've know about the Naval Anti-Submarine Base at…read morethe Point Loma Annex Naval since my younger days in the Navy. What I didn't know until about two years ago is; Most of the Naval bases in and around the San Diego area have two types of lodging. One type is the Navy Lodge, operated by the Navy and is more for Active Duty Military and their families who are trasitioning from one duty station to another. The lodge provides the place to stay while waiting for housing. The second type of lodging is the Navy Gateway Inn & Suites which is operated by Moral, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), a civilian component of the Department of Defense. This lodging is also for transitioning families but, they also host to Leasure travelers. They also operate the cottages and RV parking, storage and campsites on military installations. NARRATIVE: This review is a two part review. One review for 2018 when my family and I stayed in three separate rooms at the Navy Gateway Inn & Suites barracks at the Point Loma Annex. The second review will cover my families recent stay in April of 2019 at the Navy Gateway Inn & Suites, two bedroom cottage. Also located at the Point Loma Annex but, next to the marina. * 2018 - The Barracks. In the early days of November of 2018. My oldest son telephoned to say he had a few weeks of leave from his school in NY and was flying into San Diego the week of Thanksgiving to, get away from the cold and snow of NY for a few days. He asked that the rest of family join him. With the limited amount of time I had before he arrived, I telephoned the Navy Gateway Inn & Suites a their DOD lodging website number and they recommended and booked three rooms at the Gateway Inn & Suites at the Point Loma Annex for us. They also recommended rooms at their other hotel located at the Point Loma Submarine Base. About a 15 minute drive South of Point Loma but, the hotel at the annex is much closer to the action of San Diego. ** 2019 - The Cottage(s). While checking out of the hotel in 2018, I inquired about the two cottages operated by MWR. I was told they had two cottages for rent. Cottage "1" was a one bedroom, fully furnished cottage at, $135 per day. The other (Cottage 2) was a fully furnished two bedroom cottage at, $165 per day. I was told both cottages had to be booked well in advance and for a minimum of three nights for either cottage. SCENE: The Barracks - Basically, MWR took several older barracks which, were used for students attending their "A" Schools. Refurbished the room with modern day amenities, new carpet and paint and stuck the MWR Gateway Inn & Suites name and logo on the doors. The rooms are Nice!! Very airy, light colors and a new Samsung 50" inch TV in each room with more DirectTV channels I could watch. The rooms also have a small fridge, coffee maker, microwave, some dishes and utensiles. Being old barracks rooms. Each room is both sound and bullet proof. The only other place I have seen built this solid are jails. You won't have to worry about hearing noise(s) once tucked away in your room and, per the bases policy on base. Students who live in the barracks next to and around the hotel must be quiet from the hours of 10 pm until 6 am. Cottage 2 - Like I mentioned above. There are only two cottages located at the annex. They are side by side and located at the marina, next to the RV camping area. I still can not believe how nice these cottages are for the little cost they charge. The patio door from the living area leads you onto a patio are overlooking the marina and bay. Not to mention the patio itself will accommodate approximately 60 people. IT'S HUGE! Inside the cottage, you will find two bedrooms. One with a queen size bed and the other with two doubles. There is one large and upgraded bathroom and a newer, full size kitchen with stainless steal appliances. The living room area has two chairs and sofa. Each room, including the living have 50 inch TV's with satellite programming. You also have your own high speed internet assigned to your cottage. EVIDENCE: The barracks at the annex are really clean and quiet but, the cottage put them to shame for the cost. I have already have plans to return to the cottages for vacation next year. RECOMMENDATION(S): PRO - The rooms at the barracks have houses keeping services each day. CON - At check in for the Cottages. You are provided enough towels, soap, hair conditioner and shampoo and garbage bags to last your entire stay. MWR does NOT provide house keeping services at the Cottages. You're on your own. However, they will collect your trash upon request. FIVE Stars...

It was a one-bedroom suite. The living room area was quite large. It had a pull-out couch and was very roomy. The bedroom was equally large with a king bed. The bathroom was very large as well. I was very impressed with the size of the TVs. There was on in each room and they were at least 65". Our friends very much like the accessibility the room offered. Plenty of room for maneuvering around. Both rooms featured large sliding glass doors that opened up to a very large patio with a fabulous view of the marina and the boats. The patio had two cushioned reclining lounge chairs and an outdoor dinette with four cushioned chairs. Eight of us plus two small dogs were visiting out on the patio and there was plenty of room. Situated on the ground floor, the room was steps from the pool and close to the main office. We've stayed at the Island Palms once before for a staycation and loved it. There were several moldy spots in the room and on the hotel grounds. This part is technically for the restaurant but I did deal with hotel staff for the issue. This is literally the stupidest reason to receive a bad review. I went to dinner with my spouse and two children. No rush, not very busy. My entire family's food came before mine, no big deal. (My meal was also the only one that didn't require any cooking) But after nearly thirty minutes, and my entire family finishing their meals, I asked for a manager. Manager came, offered to comp my meal. Comping a meal that was never eaten seemed like the bare minimum to me? Then, for some over dramatic waste of my time I had to wait for the hotel director? A hotel director and another half hour of my time? She also offered to only comp my meal. Which I accepted, as long as her name and corporate number were also provided. Some how I ended up with my entire bill covered, but no name and no corporate name or number. Nor was any employee, at any point, willing to take any kind of accountability or take any blame. Everything felt like a placation. Which is silly because at no point was I angry or loud. But they screwed up and were very unwilling to do anything to right their own mistake. Unfortunately this one staff interaction completely changed my opinion of this hotel. It should also be said, ask questions about the menu. Especially if you're picky. The kids menu says "Kraft macaroni and cheese", it's not Kraft. It's cavatapi noodles with cheese sauce. It also says "french fries" and it's waffle fries. Kids are picky. Especially about macaroni and their French fries. This miscommunication could ruin a family vacation. Also, the "avocado salsa" is creama. Not salsa. So mind your allergies because the menu describes almost everything incorrectly.

After staying downtown all weekend, I wanted a more quiet and calm spot for my last night in SD. I booked through Priceline and prepaid my stay for the night at $41 in an all female 6-bed dorm. Mark greeted me upon my arrival early Sunday evening. He was kind, professional and informative. We actually are both from the same home state, coincidentally. After checking me in, he gave me a tour. . The place is huge and very clean. Very much donned in a surfer bohemian aesthetic. They have surfboards for rent, but extra towels, blankets and yoga mats are free to use at will. There's a tv room that leads to the courtyard/lounge and kitchen areas. Plenty of seating either on small tables, benches or the patio couches. There's also a hammock, a front porch with swing chairs, a bar, & vending machines. A couple of clear door fridges are in the lounge area and duplicate in the kitchen. There are top left shelves designated to abandoned foods that are up for grabs. The kitchen is like an island surrounded by the lounge, courtyard and downstairs dorm hall. This arrangement allows the kitchen to remain open 24 hours as the dorm hall side is closed off with a sliding door. Most hostels close their kitchen at night to not disturb other guests, but this is most convenient. They also offer free tea accesible 24 hours and free breakfast from 7am-9am. . There are several single occupancy restrooms and two communal ones designated for men and women. My room was tight quarters, but overall functional. There's a nook with an overhead light next to the bed and adjacent to an outlet. The room has a big window which my fellow roomies did the right thing and opened it wide. The room also has a mirror vanity and sink which was helpful if I didn't want to go out to the hall to use the restroom. The sheets were clean, smelled phreshly washed and the blanket was thick and warm. . It's also not far from downtown. I commuted there via the trolley and the bus which took about 45 minutes. You can cheat the system and take an Uber part of the way to or from Old Town (the bus leg of the trip). I would definitely stay here again and hope to have more time in Ocean Beach. There are many restaurants, cafes and shops nearby and literally steps from the water. If you need quality accommodations, in a great location on a budget, Samesun will get the job done! . Sidenote: There are only stairs inside and outside of the building.
