She started with a Brazilian, she didn't think I needed a full Brazilian so we only did a bikini wax. Next step was the tint. She didn't ask me about different colors and just applied it. I assumed she would notice that my hair color is black, but she applied brown eye brows. I don't know if they only have one eye brow color, but it did not match my natural eye brow color or shape at all. I didn't notice until after I paid and got to my car. I had an appointment right after so I didn't have time to go back inside . When I got home I went to inspect my wax, I had leftover hairs all over. I shouldn't have to shave after going to a professional for a wax. There was no attention to detail. I was very disappointed in this session and the wax specialist. To be honest the wax specialist looked like she just woke up and her hair was in a very messy bun. Not like a good I tried messy bun, but like a I didn't have enough time to get ready messy bun. But, after my experience here, I feel obligated warn others. I went into MJ Brow and Skin for my first ever lash lift a few days before my wedding. Huge mistake on my part to do it so close, but that was the only time everything aligned with all the other things I was doing for the wedding. I wish I had looked up the procedure beforehand, but it wasn't on the top of my mind before my wedding. When I arrived for my appointment, I let MJ know this was my first lash lift and all she basically said was "great!" And then motioned for me to lay down on the table. I assumed maybe she would tell me what was normal and what wasn't while in the process of doing my lashes, but she was quiet the entire time. Immediately, I noted how incredibly rough she was with my eyes. I've had LASIK, so I'm more sensitive, but I would have been concerned even if I hadn't. Quickly into her starting, I began to feel burning. I shrugged internally and thought it was normal given she didn't warn me ahead of time that I should tell her if anything burned. After the entire process was complete she allowed me to open my eyes to look at my lashes. Immediately I noticed that the entire world was blurry no matter how much I blinked. I could only see things clearly that were right by my face. Once again, I reasoned that since my eyes had been closed for 45+ minutes, I had just been poked and prodded, and I had foreign chemicals on my eyes this likely was normal and would go away soon. She told me to call if I had any side effects or questions. I thanked her and then began to make my way home. Thank goodness I live close enough to walk, because there would have been no way I could have possibly driven! After no change by the time I got home I looked up (with my phone almost touching my nose because I couldn't see it otherwise) if burning and blurriness were normal symptoms after a lash lift. Turns out, neither are and Dr. Google recommends going to urgent care/the ER if these symptoms last. I decided that I would call MJ just to chat with her since she was a professional and probably would have some advice. She didn't pick up, and so I left a message explaining what was going on and asked her to call me back. After a couple of hours, my symptoms not improving at all, and no word from MJ, I called my sister in law who is a PA. She recommended that I go to the ER when my partner got home with the car and call the lash place again to get the name of the chemicals used in the treatment just in case the ER staff needed it. I called MJ Brow & Skin again, and once again no answer. I left another message asking her to call me back ASAP since I was going to the ER and I needed the name of the chemicals. Now, almost two months later I have still not heard from her! Multiple hours later when my now husband got home, I was in tears. My vision was still blurry, but I didn't want to pay for the ER bill after I had just paid a stupid amount for this woman to burn my eyeballs and then promptly ghost me right before my wedding!! Because my eyes weren't a glaring red and the burning had subsided - they were just dry and blurry - I decided to sleep on it and see if they got better. The next day they seemed to be improving slightly. Over the next couple of weeks they did improve, but my vision has never gotten back to normal. On top of all of this, she also either over-permed one side of my lashes or used an incorrect rod size (see photos). Boy was it hard to put mascara on during my wedding day!!! I also talked with a coworker about my experience and she gasped when she realized she had a really similar experience at the same place. However, MJ actually picked up when she called. Instead of offering advice or a refund, though, MJ blamed my coworker for not telling her that her eyes weren't burning and said it was her fault. Please go elsewhere if you can!

Instead of asking where I had parked or offering any helpful guidance, she simply said yes. From the beginning, I did not feel welcomed. Her manner was cold and dismissive, and throughout my visit I felt as though she was treating me with irritation. The service description included a **hand and arm massage**. However, the hand massage lasted only approximately 2-3 minutes, and I did not receive an arm massage at all. Although I was happy with the nail technician and the final appearance of my nails, the full service described was not provided. I had also paid extra for a French manicure. While choosing the color, I asked whether I could use a different base color for the French manicure. The owner gave me what felt like a very unpleasant look and responded rudely and sharply, **"THAT IS EXTRA $5."** I had no issue paying an additional $5 if that was the salon's policy. My concern was the disrespectful and condescending way she communicated it. At checkout, I misunderstood the credit card policy. Because I had entered my card information when booking the appointment, I thought my card had already been charged. As I was leaving, the owner called out, **"Ma'am, you have to pay,"** which made me feel embarrassed. Tipping should be the customer's choice, and I did not appreciate being confronted about it. I explained that I had paid for my service and that I was unhappy with the way she had spoken to me. She eventually apologized, but by that point I was already very upset and embarrassed. I want to emphasize that my criticism is not directed at the nail technician. Although she did not do a good job with the hand massage and did not provide the arm massage included in the service, her overall manicure work was good, and I was satisfied with my nails. Unfortunately, the owner's attitude and the failure to provide the full service described overshadowed the quality of the actual manicure. I left feeling uncomfortable, humiliated, and unwelcome. A salon visit should be relaxing and pleasant, but this experience was the opposite. Despite being satisfied with the technician's work, I would not return because of the way I was treated by the owner.

I love that I'm conveniently able to self schedule my appointments on the Gloss Genius app. Be sure to take an ibuprofen or two within an hour of your appointment.  I take two every time and it helps a lot even if I have sensitive skin.  The smooth end result is always really worth the hard work & pain! You also get a free touch up a week after your first visit & a complimentary pair of exfoliating gloves to take home. It's painful, but stick with it.
