Hot turkey, with veggie wrap in background.
Jeff W.

Really great, busy truck stop restaurant off the 417 that is also very popular with the non-trucking locals. Sparkly clean with in-house bakery, gift shop, and large diner area. The food is excellent (including the fries) and the portions generous, and they have a seniors selection as well with smaller portions. My wife had a veggie wrap while I enjoyed a hot turkey sandwich. Server was pleasant and efficient.

Not driving with AZ anymore, but still take time for good food, great service, awesome bakery goods.

2020 - I don't drive a rig anymore. However, I do come back often. As sporadic as I am, and I drive past every 6 months or so, I get served by Nick. He is a very attentive waiter. Treats me and my guests like royalty. 2023 - Stopped in again. I still drive from Ottawa to northern Ontario. Every chance I get, when they are open, I stop, get baked goods, have breakfast (I prefer eggs and bacon), say hello to Greg, then continue on my route. You know you go anyplace a lot, when you are on first name basis with staff. It really does feel like home. Even the lad who makes sure the place is clean, inside and out, is friendly. And yes, sometimes even get gas and/or stuff from the tuck shop. Great prices, great food, great experience. I can spend my wage anywhere. I prefer here. I appreciate all the helpful staff. The wait staff are amazing. Again 2023, Had a quick chat with Greg, while wifey was in the washroom. Still had to wait. Very busy, for breakfast, on Saturday. Well worth the wait. Glad the restaurant is filled with people. Like home, but with dishes I don't need to wash. :)

They have a bakery with lots of goodies in their bakery

We had a big breakfast and we were served quickly. The staff were friendly and the manager was walking around to check in at tables to see how customers were enjoying their meals. I highly recommend this place! Good food and nice atmosphere!

So clean you could eat off the floor

Quite possibly the best diner I've ever been to. Super friendly staff, great menu, wonderful bakery. It's a 10 in my books!

Great homemade food. Although often crowded, usually a short wait. Friendly, efficient service.

Also the pastries and baked goods are magical. Decadent cookies, flaky croissants, which is seemingly their specialty with cruffins (muffins made with croissant dough and filled with magic) traditional croissants, and cinnamon sugar morning buns, which are all on the menu daily. The cruffins are perfection. My personal favourite is the lemon blueberry, the perfect balance of buttery, tart and sweet. The morning buns are delightful sugary goodness, brownies are rich and luscious, and they have the best ginger molasses cookies around.. There's honestly options for everyone, simple but delicious for the kids, traditional picks to please anyone and elevated unique fare for the adults - including craft beer to top off a fantastic meal. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Perth and locals alike. But go early if you're going for the baked goods, they sell out fast!

One of my colleagues is from Perth and when I told her my husband and I were doing a day trip to Perth as part of our staycation, she recommended we have lunch at Fieldhouse. I love bakeries, so we followed her recommendation. The place is a lot smaller than I expected. It only has seating for 8 inside (4 tables of 2) and 4 picnic tables outside (so seating for about 16 outside). I got the Chicken and Brie sandwich ($14.75) and added a side salad for my husband and I to share ($5). My husband got the Ham and Swiss sandwich ($14.25) and we also got a cruffin ($5.25) for dessert, but ended up taking it home. Before we left my husband got an Americano to go ($3). I enjoyed my sandwich. The bread was crusty and held the ingredients of the sandwich well. The peppery arugula in the sandwich went well with the chicken and Brie. I was thrilled that the chicken was real roasted chicken breast meat (and not deli meat, lol). The aioli was flavourful but a bit excessive in quantity for my tastes. It dripped onto the plate with every bite, lol. The salad was leaf lettuce, shredded cabbage and carrots. Vegetables were fresh. I asked for the dressing on the side and it came as requested. The dressing was a creamy dressing and on the runny side. I'm glad I asked for it on the side, as I used only about a third of it. I had a bite of my husband's sandwich and it was ok, but I much preferred mine. He liked his better, so it all worked out. His was on a fluffier and softer bread. The ham was deli ham, but it tasted ok. The Swiss cheese was nippy. Service was pleasant. My husband enjoyed his Americano. We had the Brownie Cruffin at home. The pastry was flakey and delicious. The chocolate filling was like a rich chocolate pudding. It was very decadent. Overall we enjoyed our meal, but I found it a bit pricey, but I guess in today's economy, this is what you pay for sandwiches. Street parking only. (125)

I have a soft spot for those in academia who leave for other pursuits ;) For some reason I know that rND stands for rue Notre Dame, but I forget the significance of this street to the bakery. Their location in Smiths Falls is not a retail store, but they do sell online and you can arrange for pick up at the location. They also deliver, and their products can be found at several health food stores such as Natural Food Pantry and Kardish. This bakery makes the best gluten-free bread and bagels in my opinion, but be advised that they do not taste like regular bread or bagels. They do not contain yeast and are very dense and textured. My husband calls it "twiggy hippie bread" implying that it tastes like it's made of twigs and is consumed by tree-hugging hippies. I do not disagree with his assessment, lol. It's not smooth Wonder Bread. It has texture and is chock-full of fibre. I love it for this very reason. I love their classic oat bagels. They are very versatile and can be used for both savoury and sweet meals. Their tomato and basil bagels and curry and onion buns are excellent for savoury sandwiches. Their cinnamon raisin bagels or bread loaves are excellent for a sweet snack. Their items are pricey. Bagels and buns are $7.50-8.50 for packs of 4 and loaves are $9-$10 each. Health Food stores may mark the items up further. Although, I sometimes get them on discount at the health food stores when they are nearing their best before date. They freeze well though, so I just pop them in the freezer. If you like breads that are dense, full of texture and high in fibre, I would definitely recommend rND products. I love them!!
