Since my last review of Petersunn's Antiques back in 2012, I've stopped in to see Terry many times…read more I've pretty much concentrated on his extensive knife collection, have purchased a number of them, have always felt welcome and that he really knows his stuff. We're also both from Northwest Iowa and both have family in Genoa. What I don't understand is 6 (at this writing) negative reviews complaining about rudeness. If what they mean is plain spoken, occasionally blunt, and sometimes doesn't suffer fools (or unsupervised kids), I consider that a plus.

He told three of us to leave his store in a rude tone of voice and that he was closing his doors in the middle of the day during the art festival. We weren't even in his store 2 minutes if that. He also commented to us that it was illegal to take pictures in a gun shop, pawn shops and casinos. We knew someone that was looking for something he had and wanted to share where it was. More business, that's what we thought he would want. Not sure about all the laws but I don't know he does either. A Pawn shop is on a TV show, young people always taking selfies in casinos, and pictures of his collections are on his website.

I found…read moreout yesterday, as I walked into a 2-story emporium that felt like it took up an entire city block. I walked through it all, most I assume to be a hefty collection of rented "booths" and maybe some consignment. I'll need to come back again, as each antique store visit is just one layer of the onion. The antique wares were well organized throughout, although with differences in display density. There was a pleasant atmosphere in the store, both from staff and all the curious folks like me taking it all in. The husband of a friend used to be an antique dealer and he often talked about collection cycles and people age out and their treasures move on. I thought of that as I perused and sometimes admired an impressive collection of "stuff" that were previously special to their previous owners, and would someday be again.

Souvenir Things and Stuff [Genoa NV]…read more This is a cute little shop in a small town in Genoa NV. Genoa is Nevada's oldest settlement. When I walked inside I was drawn to the charming little gifts. They have some cute jewelry, home décor, apparel and hand crafted souvenirs. I saw a section of Native American jewelry with different pretty color stones. Of course, the first thing I look for are stickers and I did find them in both small and big sizes. Looking around some more I found a few handmade soaps made locally in Genoa and a shelf filled with classic soaps made in France. Lately I've been drawn to handcrafted soaps and remember purchasing a bunch at a shop in Virginia City. I did purchase a small bar. I have yet to try. Lovely place. Friendly customer service. The store features a variety of items from individual sellers who rent spaces. Shoppers can find a diverse selection of goods, including buttons, costume jewelry, household items, one off treasures, hats, as well as vintage clothing. The inventory is constantly changing, offering a new experience with every visit. I didn't know how much I would enjoy this store until I got sucked into the different things for about a half an hour. If I wasn't on a time crunch I would have stayed longer. I enjoyed the friendly greeting when I walked in the door. There were some great sales going on that she wanted to make sure I knew about. Things were moderately priced and you could find a really good deal.

I spent a while looking through their offerings and ended up purchasing quite a few albums. Don was very friendly and priced them very fairly. I will definitely stop by next time I'm in town. first of all, they state that they open at 10 am; we were there at 10:15 and still nobody there…read more went to a few other stores then returned around noon, finally it was open. place is large, but really, really cluttered, kind of dark and a lot of the dealers nooks were cramped so full you were afraid to touch anything for fear of an avalanche. lady behind the counter was friendly enough. we were the ONLY 2 in the whole place the entire time we were there. bought just 1 thing and left....but felt kind of "dirty" after leaving as it is so dark and dusty inside...... a neat place if you REALLY WANT to dig for a bargain, but bring your gloves!
