As I've taken my guilty pleasure of thrifting rather than buying new, I stumbled across one of the top independent thrift stores to serve the capital city of Nevada. Located on the right hand side of eastbound Highway 50 and about a mile east of Highway 580 in Carson City, "Classy Seconds Thrift Shop" has been one of the main go-to thrift stores dating back to the late-1990's. Since I do not live in this area, this was my first opportunity as I got to check this place out which was during the afternoon on Friday 6/19/2026 at around 2:45pm. The location itself is not hard to miss as the building is very visible from the main highway. To actually get into the dedicated parking lot involves having to turn right on Brown St. and make another right on Gordon St. where the main entrance is. Since this is a fairly sizable and open space area, parking should never be an issue, no matter what day or time you come. The building itself is a clay grey shade complete with avocado green lettering. And for those wondering, they are open 7 days a week; Monday-Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from 10am-5pm. Once inside, you will see how spacious the layout is with approximately 10,000 square feet of floor space and ample room to walk with a shopping cart. As for the variety of items that are offered, this place carries everything from mens/womens/kids clothing, shoes, houseware items, books, CDs/DVDs, furniture, small appliances, seasonal items, knick/knacks, and accessories. The one real advantage is that the prices here are quite competitive and even lower than the bigger major chain thrift stores such as Goodwill and Salvation Army. During my visit, I ended up buying a few summer polo shirts while my lady bought some mason jars and a small office organizer for her cubicle at work. Best of all, the money donated to this business helps support advocates to end domestic violence and services for survivors of family violence and victims of sexual assault. This goes hand-in-hand since the "Sexual Assault Response Advocates" (SARA) building is directly next door to Classy Seconds. With above average customer service, a decent selection of items, and very affordable prices, I am giving "Classy Seconds Thrift Shop" an above average four-star rating. read more

The employees in the back hold all the good items for their friends to come in and nobody else gets to even look at them. This lady came in and bought 20 pairs of Nikes and air Jordans for $60 because her friends worked there and marked them all down and nobody else even got to look at them.. we told the front desk and we were informed that upper management knows and this happens daily. Have been frequenting Classy Seconds for years, it's my place to drop off all the wonderful items I have to give to those in need. Classy Seconds is also one of my favorite places for donating to such a worthy cause. The place on Highway 50 in Carson City is gorgeous. I love walking the interior to browse what they are selling and check out the organization of things. When the place was built I came to love the decor, pretty nice. Staff is very rude and prices are insanely overmarked. I found a cheapo artists easel; I worked at a crafts store, so I know how much craft stuff is worth, this easel was probably $15 brand new, and it had seen a lot of wear. I asked how much it was as there was no sticker on it. After waiting in line for 10 minutes to ask someone what the price is, nobody knew, nobody even knew what it was. I explained what it is and they called up someone on the phone who said the price was $30. For real? I said " that's way overpriced " and they just took it and threw it to the side and said "well, you don't have to buy it". Like that's not the point, genius. read more

I haven't been to classy seconds in probably 10 years but stopped by while I was in Carson and it's great! The prices are better than any other thrift store in Reno that I have been to. They have a ton of greeting cards which I always look for and they are only like 10 cents each! I got a ton of Christmas decor on my last visit and everything was organized well and in good condition. The staff was friendly. They have great deals and they have work towards a great cause. We are making the move back to Carson and I will for sure be visiting this thrift store many more times. read more

She also alerted me that the small igloo I was looking for ( my hummingbird container) had arrived in store. Luckily, she held it for me until today. Recently bought a Christmas tree was so excited. Came around back to pick it up they just left it on the side of the building out in the open. No one there to hand it off just sitting for anyone to take. We got home and realized they didn't give us the tree stand and when we called the worker to ask about getting the stand. She was so disrespectful and hung up on us! I can appreciate Classy Seconds having a good cause but at what cost? The prices are extremely unreasonable for second hand items. Most of which aren't in good condition but are still priced from $15 upwards of $30 and sometimes higher!!! That's insane. I even see items with the original price tag of $8 but are still being priced at $10 or $15. They need to be reminded they are a thrift store and not a boutique no matter how hard they try. The only time this store is worth it is when they have sales going on. Which luckily happen quite often so I'd keep an eye out for those days and avoid going in on other days. Other note the staff has quite a mix of personalities especially most being community service people. Don't expect smiles and kindness all the time. I was highly disappointed in the service we received today by an older Hispanic worker. We simply asked if something was sold as the sold sticker wasn't filled out and she was very nasty. I won't be going back to donate or buy from this establishment. Really horrible since it all goes to a great cause. Should probably look into employees. When I was there on 12/3, an older woman with red hair and blonde highlights yelled at a customer next to me, "What do you want!" This was after the customer had asked, one time, "excuse me?" in order to get the employee's help with something. She told the customer that section wasn't her job and that she wouldn't help her. In that same visit, when there was already a considerable line at check out, that same employee who had yelled at the customers daring to ask her for help decided that it was appropriate to close a register. This was over half an hour before close. By the time that I got out of the checkout line it trailed back half the length of the store. It's a shame, because the store was well maintained and had a good range of items. But because of that employee's abysmal customer service, I am likely to not return nor recommend this store to anyone else. read more

I wasn't aware of store hours when I walked in and was told very rudely by an employee that they were closed when there were people in line and still shopping and the parking lot was full. No need for further review. My first experience with them was unprofessional as they wouldn't give me back my box of items I mistakenly brought to them. It only took me an 1/2 hour to realize I dropped of the wrong box. She(the supposed manager) said once on their property , it's hers . She would not return my box even though I personally drove back to their shop and pointed out my boxes. They had opened it but not taken it inside. It had very sentimental value to my family and she wouldn't even budge from saying she'd just hand it back. I asked for the owner of the business and she wouldn't give me a name or number. I am sad because I really wanted to like classy seconds thrift shop. I had heard great things about it. As an avid thrift shopper I liked that classy seconds is big and clean. I also like that the proceeds benefit the domestic violence shelter. Unfortunately I did not like that there wasn't any shopping carts with child seats. It made it hard to shop and look around while carrying my child on my hip. I also struggled with the pricing in the boutique area as they were marked similar to department store prices. read more

Very clean. Spacious. Nicely organized -- I was particularly impressed by how they organize and hang the pants and jeans! Most items are in great to good conditions. I also loved their selection of formal/prom gowns. If I were attending a formal event, I'd remember to come here for a pretty dress! I found a hand-tooled purse that I really liked and bought. A bit expensive, but let's remember that this is a shop with a mission; I really don't mind supporting this cause. I was with two girlfriends, and we all bought multiple items. A downside: the staff were all unfriendly and grumpy. There were laser-printed signs all over the place that says the entire world is short staffed so be kind to the ones who showed up. Sure, but why do I have to be nice and kind -- I always try to be nice and kind -- to people who are grumpy for no reasons? Civility goes both ways. read more

Northern Nevada has a horrible recent history with regards to second-hand retail. In short, prices are high, opportunities few and quality in demand; From what I've read the true community benefit is questionable. I myself bore witness to a worker verbally abusing a donator of items to the cause. There's definitely no excuse for that. Happily, my faith is partially restored after today's visit to Classy Seconds. Ironically, located across highway 50 from Goodwill, this is a refreshing change from what I've been exposed to, thus far. For starters, proceeds help support the war on domestic abuse and aid sexual assault victims. That alone motivated us to dig deep in our pockets and contribute. Like other stores of this nature, there's a variety of clothing, nick-nacks, toys, books, etc. Most everything is used and all through generous donation. Depending on the item, the prices are still a bit steep. But, thinking of it as a donation as opposed to a sale, puts it in better perspective. Plus, Sunday's and Wednesday's are 50% off all clothing. Plenty of motivation. All the employees we encountered were very Classy, themselves. I'm a thrifter -and I love doing the rounds on a Saturday - so a friend and I decided to go to Carson and check thrift stores out there. We initally went to the huge Goodwill, but then noticed this shop across the street, and immediately drove over. All I can say, is wow! What a pleasant experience this afternoon was. Such a clean, well organized, well-priced store! Friendly staff, and very helpful when I asked a question (I want to buy that mirror-you know the one) I live in Reno but this place is a great reason to go to Carson for some retail therapy! read more

RUDE older woman working the register. Price marked 4.50 on 3 of my items she says they are supposed to be 5.99 and marked wrong and proceeds to talk down to me and almost like coach me on how to mark items at the store like I am an employee going as far as pulling a similar item out of a customers bag who had already paid and was leaving. She argued back and forth with me for a while treating me very poorly. Reading other comments on here and google I see a trend of them doing this quite often. This is in my top 5 favorite thrift stores between the Reno-Sparks-Carson area. I usually hit them on Sundays, since clothes are half off. Purses are a flat price and there's dressing rooms! Jewelry is a hit pricey otherwise I'd say they're reasonable! I always round up to donate to the shelter they help too. I'm always helped by the same cashier, although I haven't caught her name, she's very friendly. read more

This is a very nice well run thrift store but the prices are too high for me except on Sunday when all clothing is half off! I have definitely found some good deals. All the proceeds benefit victims of Domestic Violence and help provide needed services. Because of the Sunday sale there is always a group of shoppers. It's easy to try on clothes and there is a special boutique section. They do have alot of household decorative items. I did look here for frames once but I needed a bigger bargain. read more

I love the organization and cleanliness. HOWEVER, I am taking my donations (clean clothes, housewares in good shape, somewhere else. That older man at the pick up station was very rude both times he was there. I get it working with the general public is not always fun . Unless his job is court ordered due to anger management issues, he should get a job that does not require interaction with the general public. read more

I've been shopping at this thrift store for years. Most prices are very reasonable. Some of their boutique items can be a bit pricey. Always love finding bargain items I need or want. A bit disappointed in their children selection. Hard to believe they don't get more donation of children's clothing. I have a toddler granddaughter and always looking. Recently I did find a dress but decided $4 was a bit much for a no name brand. It was just cute but since I shop other thrift shops I've found lower prices on no name labels. I did find a cute Disney dress and thought the $4 was reasonable. Still all in all when in town I try and make it a point to come on in. Some of the people that work here are insanely rude. Specifically the older gentleman working the drop offs, he was wearing a Hispanic / southern style parka, white hair, mustache... Apparently he doesn't reply to "Thank you's" or "Have a nice day.".... We aren't looking for much, maybe just some common courtesy... but he really made us feel like the jerks for dropping something off. I understand that his job can't be all that great at times, and that they probably have people dropping off trash that they then have to deal with ... that doesn't mean you have to be rude. We called ahead and where approved to drop off (on Sunday at 10am) a very nice leather couch that someone will absolutely love to have, and they will love to make a bit of cash off of... but I guess we are the jerks right ? Find a better attitude, or find a job where you don't have to Interact with people. I won't be dropping anything off here again, and I'll be sure not to recommend this place which is a shame because as far as thrift stores go they are pretty good. It's been soooo long since I've been thrift shopping as we are the Covid portion of life. This store gave me new life! So hip and organized, so fresh and so clean, clean! I bought a super stylish black ruched Under Armor Yoga bag for $8, and gorgeous forest green 6" clay pot for my new birkin philodendron for 3.49 and a perfect working condition staple gun for 3.99! Hat trick! Boom! I'm sad my phone wasn't getting great service and I was unable to check in on Yelp while in the store because I would have gotten 23% off one item. Dang. Gotta go back. I'm an avid thrifter, and this is hands down the BEST second hand shop I've ever been to. Quality merchandise, attentive & lovely staff, pristine layout, and great prices! Beautiful mission as well that is close to my heart. Every time I visit this store, I leave with arm fulls of fabulous vintage clothing-- my all time favorite pair of Levi's is from here! Visited the store today for their 50% off sale. I was blown away by the amazing selection of jackets and sweaters and got a whole new wardrobe for a great price. Was welcomed in by the staff and informed about the sale, and was helped by a lovely woman with red-ish hair at the register who was so sweet, she totally made my day! Last Sunday I went to buy a Christmas gift for my grand child since the holidays are quickly approaching. When I went to go pay, the cashier had the worse attitude and beside the bad breath she kept ringing up the wrong price and got annoyed when I told her to fix it It's sad because I love this store and this lady ruined it forever I think her name was Belinda or Benita. The first time we tried to make donations we were told by the grumpy older guy that they were full. So we took our donations elsewhere. Just stopped again (a few months later) and the same rude old guy acted as if this was a huge inconvenience. He looked around to see what we had as if he would take only a few things if he thought they were worthy. I asked him if they would take the donations or not as I would gladly take them elsewhere. Then a female (not sure if she was a manger or supervisor, he called her boss) stepped in and said they would take half of what I had. The lack of basic customer service skills and common courtesy is not going to entice people to want to help your business. This is unfortunate as I prefer to donate to organizations that keep it local and I like the fact that it goes to support domestic abuse. However I will never donate to this organization again. I see that the business owner has responded to similar poor reviews on Yelp regarding g the same old guy (who requires training if he is dealing with the public or hide him away). I came here recently with my daughter. We visited on a Saturday. This was our first time visiting this store. We were hoping find unique pieces for my daughters cosplaying and costume creations. I also tried on a few things that caught my attention. We purchased several items. During checkout I was very distracted as my toddler was getting restless and was ready to be home. After everything was rang up I found out that clothing was 50% off the next day. I had asked because I overheard someone mention it (another guest who was waiting in line), I understand this is a business and businesses are trying to make money, but it would be nice if the staff offered up the information, especially because everything being sold is donated. When I got home I realized I had purchased a dress that I did not intent to purchase. I don't know how it ended up with the stuff I wanted but I didn't think much of it and figured I would return it in the morning. I know other second hand stores in the area accept returns within a 24-72 hour period, depending on the store. When I got there the next morning and explained what had happened I received a great deal of attitude. The first girl I spoke with had called an older women over to the register, who told me I would have to speak with their manager because they don't accept returns. When the manager had got to the front, the women pointed to me and mockingly said "you're going to love this" and rolled her eyes at me. I didn't really appreciate her attitude and I don't know what she was trying to insinuate but it was definitely uncalled for. I explained to the manager what happened and she refused to refund my money, saying that their return policy was posted "all over the store". It wasn't until I pushed for further explanation and pointed out that their return policy was only posted on the front of the register, on a really small sign with a lot of words, that she agreed to give me store credit. I accepted this even though I was not happy that this business refused to give me my money back. It's ridiculous to think that they can take and resell peoples unwanted goods for free, but they can't refund $12. To me $12 is not worth loosing potential future business, but apparently it doesn't matter to these employees. This will most likely be the last time I visit this store. I love that the owner donates to helping victims of domestic violence, but I don't appreciate the rude and unwelcoming staff. Your staff is a representation of your business and unfortunately they do not represent it well. I would have been more than happy to revisit this location but there are plenty of other local options and Reno is not a far drive to make a day out of shopping and huwith my daughters. read more

My friend and I were there and he found a juicer. It looked ok to us. He bought it for 24.95. We were told he could return it within two days with his receipt. He took it home and rinsed it out. It leaked! So he took it back one day later with his receipt but the manager would not give him his refund! That is terrible customer service! We won't be back! read more

I really like this store, and was so happy when a friend told me that it opened up again after the Covid quarantine. Everyone was wearing masks, and the staff were friendly. There are lots of nice clothing options, and I also love the selection of plates and glasses. It's a nice, clean shop with clean goods and good prices. With the Covid problems, they have stopped allowing people to try on clothes, which I think is is problem. My mom, who is elderly, would have liked to check the sizes on things. I don't know if there is any solution to this problem, but it would be great if they can some up with one...perhaps for people over a certain age? Shopping has been decent my poor review is due to the donation process. Called and spoke with someone after checking their fb page to double check what the donation times were which stated the donation cut off time is 5PM We get to the back to donate at 4:33, the older gentleman that was taking the donations was very rude, dismissive, condescending and insulted the items we brought. He told us they don't accept donations passed 430 PM and the store closed at 5. Which wasn't what I was told and when I rebutted he then proceeded to insult the items we brought which are in very good condition. He saw a set of pleather cocktail chairs that were a bit dusty and dismissed us saying the items weren't acceptable. I again rebutted and said they're just dusty not poorly and he said "We don't clean them, we don't have time." Because of this encounter and some flippant comments from this person I will not take my donations here nor will I ever purchase from here again. I understand people have bad days so if this had been a one time thing I'd let it go, but it wasn't mine or a few others' first encounter with this rancorous employee.
