When we came back, the pricing was different (more) and although we asked for an explanation of the difference, we were just told we owed the higher price. Some baked goods (large cookies) were available to purchase as singles, but the donuts only came as a dozen (no singles or half-dozen available). The experience would have been improved by a map of where the fruit varieties were located (and/or signs in the orchard itself), ability to purchase some baked goods in smaller quantities, and a better understanding/explanation of pricing. We have been to several pick-your-owns in Ulster County, and most if not all of the others provide clear pricing, directions to what is available to pick, and the ability to select a single donut or cookie, and half dozen, or a dozen to purchase.

But then she had a bad experience involving a teacher who judged her negatively from the beginning of the school year, expected every (3 and 4 year old) child to act the same and average, and gave us hardly a positive word about her all year. This is a child who is well liked by almost everyone she meets, is advanced socially and academically, and is truly remarkable and not just according to her parents. The school administration has changed and is completely unreachable, unreasonable and at times rude. The academics are non existent and the children who remain in this school through eighth grade enter high school needing remediation. I strongly caution against this school.

How can i forget Women's Studio Workshop???…read more There's no way I could gush enough praise of this place that would come close to describing how wonderful it is! gosh, where do i start?? 1) The studios: They transformed an old hardware store from the 1800s into a two story art studio that includes areas for: paper-making, printmaking, letter pressing, bookbinding, ceramics, photography and silk screening. It's set in the woods and surrounded by nature 1 mile outside the small, Hudson Valley town of Rosendale, NY. 2) The artist opportunities: They offer fellowships, studio rentals, residencies, paid-internships and grants for artists (mainly women, but not exclusively female) to come use their studios and create work. --- I, myself, was accepted as a studio intern and lived and worked on the premises for 6 months in the fall of 2005. Not sure why they couldn't ring the pager for cocktails--or train a non-bartending person to be cashier. The only thing was the food... $20+ burger that I requested medium-rare... only to find out that it was a frozen ultra thin (read Sysco) patty that was oversized for the bun...and impossible to get a temperature on; so griddled to well done. If you're a middle-of-nowhere venue, I don't know why you wouldn't have someone grilling in the summertime. Decent but ungenerous portion of fries and ketch-up. Some of friends' chicken dishes were better.

After reading excellent review after excellent review and a quick phone screening, we hired him for our wedding. We met in person once before the wedding to review introductions and accompanying music, our first dance (which he performed live), our musical preferences and the entire run of show. And in the final weeks leading up to the wedding, Jimmy checked in to see if we had any additional requests or thoughts. The process was seamless and it showed the day of. For instance, my mother was insistent that dinner was not a time to be dancing and guests should be able to hear each other from across the table. Mindful of this, Jimmy used the time to play non-dancing music from some of our favorite bands at a lower level than normal. Speaking with a close friend (who knows my musical preferences) after the wedding, he expressed how personal the music was throughout the night, from introductions to dinner to dancing. Success! Jimmy's enthusiasm for music is infectious and my husband and I now find ourselves brainstorming ways we could incorporate him into future events, just so we could work with him again! He was very fun and excited about the ideas we had, praising us for going beyond what people had asked for in the past. We emailed back and forth some Dos and Don'ts, all of which he loved. We Skyped again before the wedding to iron things out and he played different music and genres for us and we shared specific songs we had from our own libraries. By the end of the session, we were all giddy and so excited. We knew we'd made the right choice. He showed up to the venue right on time, set everything up seamlessly while we took photos. The ceremony music got the waterworks going immediately (my wife walked to "This is Love" from Cinderella. I was a mess) and he played "Power of Love" after we were announced as a couple (which he also loved). He played film scores and soundtracks during the cocktail hour - which no less than 5 people stopped me to compliment ("Did you just have the theme from 'Jurassic Park' at your wedding?!"). He and I also arranged a surprise dance number with myself and my groomsmen for my wife during the reception. He played the theme from "Ghostbusters" at dinner and EVERYONE sang along. He played two songs I specifically requested for my in-laws and even replayed the song we danced to later in the evening because so many people asked us to do the full dance ("That's What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction from "Just Dance 4". It was awesome and it's on You Tube). He played a perfect mix of pop hits and classic rock and oldies. There wasn't a single moment when there wasn't someone on the dance floor. Grandmas and 11 year old cousins and everyone in between. It was so much fun and we got so many compliments. I couldn't recommend him enough. I want him to DJ my life.
