We're new to this area and are grateful to have discovered this friendly, inspiring place. The variety of classes is great and they're planning to add more. My husband and/or I have tried the "Move, Groove and Improve", Basics/Beginner Tap and Groove3 classes. They're all different and fun! You will not be judged here. I dance for the unique mental challenges it provides(btw, there are a LOT of STEM people in some of these dance communities!), because I'm tired of being clumsy, and to increase both my bone density and balance. I'm easily bored by most exercise so dancing is really a joy.

Although this year (2015) was only its third, the nascent festival surpassed all expectations. I am a huge country music fan (Tennessee born and bred) and went this year for the first time, along with my husband and 24 yo niece. We rented an RV (another first) and drove from Maryland to Hunter Mountain, NY. From the word go, the entire experience was amazing. We purchased Outlaw VIP tix with Premium RV camping, which allowed us to stay on site in our RV. The Outlaw tix gave us front row access to the stage for all shows, access to the VIP tents, etc. My husband and I made some amazing friends while hanging out in the VIP tents and will be meeting up with them again at the festival next year. Our niece loved the front row access to the concerts, but also liked that she could escape the sun, grab some food and drinks in the tents, and watch the show with us every so often. The food vendors were great, especially those from local businesses. Festival staff were amazing. HUGE kudos to those that produce this festival. Specifically, I would like to thank Steve, Paul, Kaitie, Pam, Jess and all the others such as the VIP tent servers (tent 2) that made this experience absolutely fabulous. We even purchased our tickets for next year before we left. In talking with my husband, we agree that this festival/trip rates as one of our all-time top vacations, which says it all considering we have traveled the globe extensively. The relaxed atmosphere, great music, good food, and super service resulted in a truly stress-free escape that we really needed. I have only one suggestion for next year: availability of water bottles and soda bottles in the VIP tents all three days would be super. They were available on the third day, which was great, and would love that availability throughout the festival.

The facility was surprisingly large with a massive breadth of information, most of which was left for you to read (if you did not take the guided tour), though there was some video content as well. Some of the modeled recreations were rather old and not very detailed, but the authentic items on view were very interesting. Overall, it was a decent way to spend an hour or two, but I would not say that you would NEED to go out of your way to visit (at least from the indoor perspective).

Parking on site was $10 on site and thanks to the weather we got a spot close to the entrance. I purchased tickets on line but you could get them at the gate. Now for the festival itself. First off, it took place in the middle of a Nor'easter, so that kept the crowds down... not to say it wasn't busy. there were quite a few of us diehards to braved the elements! The rain wasn't to bad... passing showers and a brief downpour. But the wind! Hold on to your hats (or tents...which many vendors had to do)! Lots of different local farms selling and offering samples of their garlic and garlic products. All the farmers I talked to were friendly, helpful and informative and you could tell they love growing garlic! They explained the different styles, flavor differences and growing tips and despite the weather, all were in good spirits! Now there wasn't just garlic bulbs... there was cheese, pickles, honey, dipping and hot sauces, kim chi, pesto and fudge to name a few... most involving garlic in some way (yes, even the fudge)! Hungry? Garlic chowder, garlic hamburgers, mac and cheese, pizza, empanadas and more! Definitely something for everyone. There were also plenty of vendors selling garlic themed items such as hats, t-shirts, jewelry and more along with arts and crafts vendors. It can be a long day on your feet so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to leave with all your garlic needs met!

My group arrived probably at the height of the event (Saturday - noonish) and there was a long line at every food vendor. The festival was much larger than expected and we were there for a good 3 hours. There is live music scattered around the venue and lots of samples from the vendors. You can probably go through the festival within an hour when the crowd is more manageable (very early or later in the day).

The Last Waltz is something I've watched many times…read more But for some reason, I didn't know anything about Levon Helm Studios or the Midnight Ramble until I arrived recently for a friend's birthday. Well, the Ramble and I made that birthday great. It's an amazing show in an amazing venue. They call it The Barn for a reason. All wood everywhere, it's an intimate show with seats all around, above and behind the stage. Apparently Levon designed and acoustically engineered the space himself, and it shows; the sound quality is phenomenal in here. I think any act would sound good in here, but the Ramble blew my mind. The musicianship is incredible. You'll watch people swap guitars for keyboards for drums and show startling prowess on all of them. They brought in all sorts of friends including Graham Lesh and Twisted Pine (the excellent opening act), and literally everyone could play, and sing, and just rock. With some of Levon's family in the band, you'll hear them play his music with real feeling and emotion, and watch them have a great time doing it. I can't recommend this show enough, and I would certainly come back to the venue as well. Be aware that they don't sell drinks and food, which isn't the worst thing in the world because you could pour half a bottle of vodka into into a water bottle with some powdered grape kool-aid because that's all you had on hand, and have a great time. I like dogs, but I don't know every dog and I don't want them near my food. I wasn't sure the kids would stay entertained through a two-hour air show, but they did (mostly!), and being outdoors definitely helped. The show itself was fun and laid-back, with a loose storyline, impressive stunts, and a nostalgic vibe. You can bring your own food and drinks, or grab something from the concession stand, which was reasonably priced. The small gift shop has cute souvenirs for kids, and the nearby hangars filled with old planes and vehicles were great to explore before the show started. The only downside was that it was a bit hard to hear the narration over the PA system, but it didn't take away from the experience. Overall, a charming, family-friendly day trip worth checking out.

The show + museum access is about $30/pp. There are a couple of gift shops (one in the air field and one by the museum area), snack stands (CASH ONLY) with hot dogs, burgers, fries, etc., and a workshop. One con is there's no phone signal and no wifi on the premises so it is best to preload any maps if you're not familiar with the area and need gps.
