She teaches all aspects of the performance arts from theater, improv, comedy, drama and voice... and of course DANCE. There's an array of dance classes for all ages and levels. She hosts adult workshops in the evenings that vary in genre and style. They're filled with students ages 18 to late 60s and filled with seasoned dancers, haven't danced in 20 years dancers and I have arthritis but I need to get moving so it doesn't get worse so let's try this out dancers. It's all about the FUN FUN FUN. Hettie brings energy, style, personality and encouragement. You get a full body workout, gain flexibility and will surely boost confidence and self esteem as your HEALTH and wellness boost. They've recently added so many exciting new classes to the schedule; it's positively brimming with enticing offerings. If I hadn't decided to spring for a membership I'd definitely be having trouble choosing which classes to attend. The membership is more than worth the investment! As someone who was born and raised in the Hudson Valley, I'm so grateful that community-minded spaces like this exist. I'm always on the lookout for studios that center inclusivity and don't shy away from the full energetic spectrum of healing -- not just the white-washed, toxic positivity kinds that can too often accompany many healing modalities. Mara is without a doubt the best instructor I've gotten to practice with; her cues are so clear and make you engage muscles/soften things you didn't even notice, and her guidance is so gentle and suggestive that it isn't as "now this now this now this" as sometimes classes can feel. I look forward to her class all week I almost feel myself chilllllll out as I walk in on Sundays. Another really important thing for me is that NP Rock is most welcoming, non-elitist, accepting yoga community and it's so purposeful that it makes me want to contribute to the feeling, too. The no judgement really allows me to just show up and focus on myself and my own practice. The energy of this place is so genuine and special and I can't recommend it enough. And most important (for me :) the vibe here is open and genuine, and Mara is so full of knowledge.
