After the show we wandered around trying different rows and seats. IMHO there are zero seats with good sight lines. It's odd and we were very surprised. Was it designed this way? Yes and no. When a theatre orders new seats they tell the manufacturer how many seats they need in the hall, sometimes how many seats per row. Either way the seat manufacturer figures out what assortment of chair widths will work. Yes, that's right. All chairs in a row may not be the same size. If you've ever said "hmm I thought these chairs were wider" you got one of the small chairs. This is part of why people buy subscriptions - year to year they keep the same seat, one that isn't small. Sadly as much as I loved visiting Ulster I will not go back to see a show at this venue. NOTE: The UPAC website has outdated recommendations for restaurants. Several restaurants had closed permanently or were not open for dinner. Definitely need to call yourself and confirm hours and availability for the evening you intend to be there.

Then we moved up to the Catskills. Our 10-yr-old neighbor invited us to see her perform in Babes in Toyland in Dec '25 and that was it. That was the excuse we needed and seeing her on that stage was our way in. The Woodstock Playhouse is one room. One stage. You don't get lost in it or getting to it. I bought tickets online but you can walk up too (I think). They even have veteran discounts which I took advantage of for hubs. Oh, btw- seats are actually comfortable. The sound is just right and our mezzanine seats couldn't have been any better. Even if you're up in the nosebleeds I think, you're still close enough that it feels like you're 'right there'. The ushers are solid- just people who know where you're supposed to be and will get you there in a jiffy without rushing. We waited 24 yrs to walk into this theater. We won't wait again.

If these things aren't necessarily your thing I think you'll still have fun if you like people watching and have curiosity, but likely more of a once in a few years experience. If you purchase tickets before the festival starts, you'll save $1.50 per ticket. Otherwise you'll pay $15 pp. I suggest getting there early if you can to have some breathing room at vendors and within enclosed spaces. Since it's on the fairgrounds, there's a fair amount of walking to be done, and the vendors seem to go on and on. There are so many skeins of yarn don't know how you keep track of it! But if you look, you'll likely find quite a few items to buy. And if you have the energy to explore take a look around before making shopping decisions. There are also demos like sheep herding, a Llama parade, competitions, a museum/blacksmithing, workshops that you have to pay extra for and do sell out, and author signings. If you don't arrive early to the demonstrations though you won't be able to see anything as it got very crowded. They also had some exotic animals like kangaroos and lemurs. I was pleasantly surprised by the number and type of food vendors and not just fried carnival food. We enjoyed the fried Brussels sprouts ($14 for a smallish bowl), fried chicken sandwich ($18), and pierogis (6 for $12) that came in flavors like mushroom and sauerkraut, potatoes and onions, spinach and feta). There weren't a lot of dessert places but there was one place that sold apple cider donuts, Ice cream, and apple pie with ice cream. Some places charged a fee for credit cards but not all. It seemed like you could find seating if you looked for it which was nice. Overall we had a nice time but I was tired of traffic, lines and people by days end.

(OK, I guess theater, since they're also set up for live events, the stage looks super fun). While the original place has clearly been chopped up a bit, as these things have happened over the years, to make multiple screens, the smaller main theater retains much of its original charm. The sound was among the best I've ever heard -- forget the mall theaters with their cookie cutter speaker systems, this place feels like the audio has actually been tuned to the space. Not too loud but utterly clear and encompassing. Throw in interesting programs and very, very reasonable concession prices on top of super friendly staff, even though the Orpheum is quite a haul for us, we are definitely returning, especially for the special festival programming. Now I want to buy some merch so I can spread the word.

They're filled with students ages 18 to late 60s and filled with seasoned dancers, haven't danced in 20 years dancers and I have arthritis but I need to get moving so it doesn't get worse so let's try this out dancers. It's all about the FUN FUN FUN. Hettie brings energy, style, personality and encouragement. You get a full body workout, gain flexibility and will surely boost confidence and self esteem as your HEALTH and wellness boost. Tickets were only $10 or $7 if you paid in advance. As soon as we arrived we were immersed in garlic! Think going to Hershey..the closer you get the more chocolate you smell...but garlic instead! We had garlic in so many different forms....raw, roasted, fried, cheese, chocolate chip cookies, hot sauce, ice cream, potatoes, sausage, corn, hot dog, hamburger, pickles, pasta, soup, shrimp, knots..etc! You name it...it was there! There's a ton of samples from the vendors as well. Prices at the vendor booths varied, but were reasonable. Come hungry...especially if you plan on sampling various different offerings.

My group arrived probably at the height of the event (Saturday - noonish) and there was a long line at every food vendor. You can probably go through the festival within an hour when the crowd is more manageable (very early or later in the day).

Besides being a great teacher and dancer, she has brought talented staff to teach Irish step, African and Modern. The Irish step teacher toured with Riverdance! We've been to other studios in the area, including Kerry's and NYAB, but our family thinks this place is the best.
