We had so much unusable space in our backyard because of the hill slope, and the back of our house…read moreis not beautiful by any stretch of the mind. It's actually quite ugly with a botched window job (previous owner/flipper) and a large mass of electrical and utility boxes/lines all coming together right outside our patio door. I want to enjoy sitting in my backyard on nice days, but am very limited in space and desire. The area that would be considered our "deck" was a 10×10 concrete slab. Not safe for our child with no railing protecting the drop-off to our very sloped yard on all sides. Chet, Shane, and Russ with CA Carpentry started work on our mess and I cannot write enough about the finished product. Not only did they work around that nasty slab (so much $$$ to remove!), and that mess of utility connections on the house, but they completely changed the look of our entire backyard with the gorgeous wood deck they crafted. Not build, crafted. You don't see work like this in construction these days. I had a picture in my mind, and these guys' work absolutely exceeded it. The quality of work, speed, communication, and how me and my husband feel after is life changing. Now, instead of my tiny children and elderly family having to walk out onto steps with no hand-hold, they can walk straight out. Our useable space was tripled, and the beauty of the deck has reignited my desire to decorate, host in, and enjoy my back yard again. Also, my kids will not fall off of the sides any longer because we have exquisite, child-safe, metal bar railings in all of the important places! Seriously, craftsmanship, not just constructed. They are artists and have great pride in what they do, and now so do I. I cannot wait to sit out ther and just enjoy the new look and feel. It's currently dumping our largest snow load of the year on the first day I can walk on it. But it's, Colorado, so I just have to wait a couple days. Thank you, CA Carpentry, Chet, Russ, and Shane!! I have already been and will be recommending you guys.

Wanted to update my review - my husband and I did end up using Veterans One to do our floors after…read morea misunderstanding about the down-payment, and it was an overall seamless process. We are mostly happy with how our floors turned out! Highly recommend LVT if you have dogs like we do. A couple of odd things to note: - The contractor who Veterans One hired to install the flooring we purchased from them was maybe a bit shady. They said our basement was uneven and they would need to put a product down and let dry to even it out. They said it would be cheaper if they did it and if we didn't go through Veterans One. This was a couple of years ago, but I believe we had to pay him around $500 for this, and the floor is still very uneven. There is definitely a space in between the flooring and the base. - Maybe a week after the floors were installed, one of the caps on a step broke. They sent their contractor out to replace it. A few days later, it broke again. After that, Veterans One refused to fix it and said it was our fault. Every other step is fine, it is just the one that had an issue and needed replaced. We didn't have the tools to replace the cap ourselves, so we have been living with a cracked cap for awhile now. My husband did just order the part we need through Veterans One (it is an exclusive product to this franchise and around $200 - yikes.) and we will be attempting to fix it ourselves. Wish us luck!

When I was purchasing my home, my general inspector noted various foundation issues in his report,…read moreand recommended that I have a structural engineer come and inspect as well. I raised this as an inspection objection, and the seller decided to hire Susan to come out and inspect. She refuted and confirmed different issues raised by the general inspector, and then the seller collected quotes for the work she recommended, and gave me a concession for that work -- about $8k. Fast forward to 7.5 years later when I was selling the home -- the buyers decided to have Susan McGourty come back out. She told them that the foundation work was not performed properly, and gave them a verbal estimate of $50k in repairs for the house, apparently without giving them any written report, which they said that she would charge for if we wanted it. We got the buyer's permission to speak with her, and she acknowledged that the original work was not done properly, saying that she knew the mason who performed the work, and that he does "good work" but that he just wasn't the right person for the job. I asked her why she quoted over 5 times the original repair cost, and she acknowledged that there were additional issues raised. I asked why she did not raised those issues 7.5 years ago, surely they weren't knew, and she became flippant at this point, saying that "I was only hired to address the issues the general inspector raised". When I objected saying that despite the seller commissioning her, it was my general inspector's report, and I'd been living there for 7.5 years with these issues, she cut me off and said simply "I work for the people who are paying me, just like you." Ma'am, you don't know me. I'm an engineer too, and actually, the customers who I work for and the people who pay me are entirely different individuals, as is the case for probably the majority of the country. But more importantly, as a PE, you should know that your obligations are to the safety, health, and welfare of the public and persons who will be impacted by the work you're performing. I was absolutely shocked at her candor and unprofessional conduct. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
