The landscape core team did an outstanding job on bringing the actual design to life. The high quality and pride taken in the work the completed was outstanding. Make sure that they've pulled permits for your work, because if you have to do this after the fact, it's going to be an ordeal. We've been told, we may have to remove the structure, because they never got to inspect the caissons in the concrete. Our roof was not done to code, the framing of the porch was not done to code, which is likely why he didn't pull permits in the first place. We can appeal, as we are not at fault and some of these things we can pay another contractor to fix, but the bottom line is, Colorado Deck and Patio, didn't do the work as contracted. They sell their services saying they do things the right way, they didn't. They talk about integrity, I think it's pretty clear that if you don't pull the permits that are in your contract, that's not accurate. If you aren't licensed to work in a city that you're working in and you're selling your services there, that doesn't seem very transparent either. They say they don't sub-contract to crews that weren't involved in the design and vision, that's also a lie. If you google you can find Stephen looking for crews to work as 1099 employees. He and Eric appear to be the only employees of the company. The crew that worked on our project, was great, but they weren't involved from the start, the guy who was involved at the start was fired for using drugs. Stephen shared the text messages of when he had to fire him, with us and the contractors who worked on our job, we all saw them. We supposedly paid more for their services because they aren't like other contractors, they are honest and they do things the right way, we found out that they are exactly like the contractors that they talk bad about, they just charge more. The allegation that they pay for 5 star reviews is accurate. They want nothing less than a perfect review and if you give them anything less, even 4 stars, expect to have them calling you names to their crew.

It has been several months now and I realized I said I would post updates when everything was…read moreresolved, which I suppose everything is now no thanks to Colorado Deck and Patio. Over the 2-3 months that followed we spent over $15,000 to have our brand new front porch repaired and brought up to city codes. So in case you're keeping score - the original estimate was $11K, but Stephen Jackson forgot to include the electrical work for lights and outlets, which we requested from the beginning, in the estimate so the total was over $13K. Then we learned there were no permits, no inspections, they were not licensed in Aurora, they disregarded the engineer's plans by not providing proper support for the structure, and they did not have the roof done according to the city code. That's just off the top of my head. So why did it cost us an additional $15K? Because to do it right we had the extra expenses of paying for the permit, paying to remove brand new materials so the workmanship could be inspected - it failed, btw. We had to pay to have the brand new roof removed so that it could be re-done properly, which required re-roofing the entire front side of the house, so that was a lot more material. We had to pay for brand new engineer drawings. [On a side note, the engineering firm they used told us it was the first time a contractor hired them to have plans drawn, then failed to follow them. As a result they said they would no longer do business with Colorado Deck & Patio.] The list goes on, and also includes paying for an attorney that specializes in construction law. I also wanted to address some of the things Stephen Jackson stated in his response to my prior review, though most of it is ludicrous. Firstly, they do indeed offer a 5 or 10 year warranty for a price. I have never, outside of Best Buy had to pay for a warranty. We paid for the 5 year, and we did reach out to them as I previously stated when we learned about the problems and they chose not to reply. And they did carry insurance but we confirmed they let it lapse during our project and only reinstated it when they heard from our lawyer. Stephen seemed perplexed as to why we would not ask him to fix the problems, but these were not honest mistakes, or simple oversights, they were decisions Stephen Jackson made to financially benefit himself and put our home in jeopardy. And the decisions to cut all those corners were solely Stephen Jackson's. The subcontractor that he hired was not a friend of ours, we had never met Jairo Reyes before Stephen introduced us when he arrived to work on the porch. In fact it came as a surprise to us because Eric Johnson said they don't use subcontractors, Stephen does all the work himself. And I hate to point out the obvious hole in that claim, but.. If he was our friend, why would we have paid Colorado Deck and Patio to hire him? Why not save ourselves a ton of money and hire him directly? But Mr. Reyes did the job as he was instructed, by Stephen who was onsite just about every day and is very much "the boss," just ask him (you know the type). Mr. Reyes absolutely was not provided with the engineer's drawings or stamp. We know this because later we did become friends with him after we learned he had also been ripped-off by Colorado Deck and Patio. I really don't want to get into the other ugly claims but I will say there is a police report that proves we never had any stolen tools at our house, and our own home security cameras prove there was never a gun pointed at anyone. In fact the officer that was involved instructed Stephen Jackson to stay away from us and our property. As far as posting fake reviews, that may just be the pot calling the kettle black, since before this year their company had a total of about five reviews over ten years - two of which were negative. Now they get a new 5-star review somewhere on average every week. That's impressive since they also told us they only do one project at a time so they can provide attention to detail. Unfortunately for Colorado Deck & Patio all those great reviews are not quite enough to restore their previous 'decent' overall ratings. Because in the meantime there have also been new 1-star reviews. Other people have called them unprofessional, and stated that Stephen did not have a license or get permits and inspections until he was forced to. And now he apparently thinks the customer should change the negative review to a positive one. So maybe he was right about one thing in his response.. maybe a gift card is not enough to make somebody change a negative review to a perfect one. But it's still a shady practice that violates the terms of sites like this one and Angie's list. But that is the least of the shady things that Colorado Deck and Patio has done during our interactions with them. Our porch is now complete and does look good, but that is no thanks to them either. We unfortunately can't enjoy it at this point, and that is thanks to Colorado Deck and Patio. :(

I then asked him if he could recommend someone else to fix it but again no answer. I had Virgil from Morgan Construction to give me a quote (I always get at least 5 quotes from various vendors). He was the only one who gave me a quote the next day. In the course of repairing the railing, we found that the beams were not securely attached to the post and the deck was not plumbed correctly when built. Virgil had to secure the post to the beams and cut off portions of the railing to get it to plumb correctly. I am very disappointed in Jake.

Jake and his guys are great!…read more I had a deck framed then I finished the top and skirt boards to save on costs. They dug the footings and framed it. Fabulous job. The only issue was that some of the boards were not perfectly straight (Douglas Lumber) so the joists didn't come up to meet the surface boards I installed. This issue would have been discovered if they had done the entire deck. I don't blame them: I am fairly handy and sharing the work saved me a few thousand dollars. I will be having Jake and his crew come back to frame the lower-level deck and a pergola over the new one. Great value, good job; he keeps his promises, is ALWAYS right on time, and communicates beautifully...a rarity with contractors, apparently.

The folks at Golden Sky Roofing came to my house to perform an inspection of a high quality 44 SQ…read more concrete tile roof. There were no structural issues with the roof and it is in excellent condition to my knowledge. The roof will likely be structurally sound for another 50 years. The Golden Sky Roofing inspector apparently noticed some cracked tiles, likely from someone walking on the roof, that do not impact the structural integrity of the roof. I believe it only impacts the cosmetics of the roof and there are spare tiles for such minor repairs. Golden Sky Roofing said the price estimate is $167,650.00...yes, you read that right, $167,650.00 because of some cosmetic cracks on the roof tiles. I have attached the estimate. Golden Sky Roofing even wants to replace the gutter system which is in excellent condition. Why would a roofing inspector provide such an outrageous price quote? You decide the answer, I think I know and will never have this roofing company anywhere close to my house.

But dealing with natural calamity related damage i.e. Hail Damage related repairs can be tough and mind boggling for any homeowner, especially if they don't know what to deal with. In August 2021 our home was affected by a hailstorm and our roof was heavily damaged. We had the opportunity to talk to quite a few Roofing companies and we ended up going with Golden Sky Roofing Company. The reason behind this is because the owner of the company, Rob Clement, was very thorough in explaining every single step. Didn't try to over-sell me anything, explained every single material and things that needed to be replaced very well. Well you might ask what's the difference, all the roofers would tell you the same thing. Well there are couple of things that stood out when I spoke to him and those are: 1. By the time my insurance approved everything, it was the middle of the winter! And Rob said that it's better to wait until the weather is warmer because then the shingles would stick to the roof well and would cure way better. So we waited and got our roof replaced in Spring. Also I've seen in my neighborhood, a couple of the houses replaced their roofing in the middle of the cold winter and as a result when there was a windstorm those roofs lost the shingle whereas these shingles are rated to survive 100+ miles per hour windstorms. 2. Constant communication throughout the whole process. 3. This part is my favorite, Level of Customer Service, when his crew were installing my roof, Rob made sure to go and talk to both of my neighbors and ensure proper cleanup was done on my neighbors property if there was any debris on their property. All the Roofers would clean up the neighbors' property but it's the attention to detail and making sure my neighbors were not unhappy really impressed me. So I would highly recommend Golden Sky Roofing to anyone who is looking to get their roof fixed. And also I was referred to this Company by my insurance agent and I'm thankful that I asked my insurance agent. It's been a great experience working with Rob and his team. The project was paid in full after we were assured the remaining work would be completed shortly. Nearly nine months later, multiple items still remain unfinished. Throughout the project, we experienced repeated delays, missed appointments, and ongoing communication issues. We were given multiple dates when crews would return to complete the work, only for those dates to come and go without completion. We were also told at various times that they were short staffed or finishing other projects before returning to ours. The photos attached show some of the issues we are still dealing with, including: * Incomplete front and backyard railings * Railing sections left on-site instead of installed * Materials and personal items left on our property * Exposed wiring and unfinished lighting installation * Gazebo materials and packaging still left inside the structure * Cracked pavers The attached screenshots are examples of communications regarding project completion and scheduling. We understand that delays can happen, but after months of missed deadlines, unfinished work, and unresolved issues, we felt it was important to share our experience so other homeowners can make an informed decision before hiring this company.
