I was just thinking about how we don't have good gelato up here in Seattle, and it reminded me that I forgot to post my experience at An's Gate D5 Gelato in Oceanside. It's been a minute, but we went there on Aug 18, 2026. They have phenomenal gelato, if I recall I ended up with getting the Sambava, and my son had the Ho Chi Minh. I can't recall what my nephew got but it was all delicious, and the overall experience made it even better. First off, while waiting I was just taking it all in being at a house across the street from the Pacific, and it was the house that was Charlie's House from the original Top Gun. They also had Maverick's motorcycle outside! Secondly, upon entering you notice that the setup is an airport themed terminal gate. Cool theme throughout, all the way down from the seats, to the flare and accessories. Lastly, it's the only place that I've been to that has you try every flavor they have at that time. Kiana was the one that help us, and she was awesome! She really knew her stuff! I wasn't sold on any of the flavors, but she broke it all down, and I actually liked almost all of them. They weren't just regular flavors, but unique flavors you won't find anywhere else. I want some right now lol. But when I go back there, it's just a matter of time, I hope that Kiana will be there to help me make up my mind. It was just too easy. Such a great upgrade to the Top Gun house! An's gelato is always top tier and this location is no different in quality. While the line is long most days it's worth the wait. You can have the entire experience of trying all the gelato or you can just order what you want and pay for it right away. I prefer the latter but if you are visiting maybe go for the full experience. I had the Del Mar and Visalia flavors and it was a great combo. Both tasted exactly as their flavor descriptions but richer at the same time. Really enhanced each other's flavors together. Can't wait to try other combos in the future! read more

Stopped by the famous Top Gun House in Oceanside and had no idea it was actually a gelato shop now! The house is super cute, right by the beach, and the interior is such a fun airport/aviation theme. They have unique flavors named after different destinations, and I got the Greensboro-- chocolate + buttermilk -- and it was SO good. The little "checked bag" cup and airplane-style seating were such cute touches too. Plus, they have a whole Top Gun photo area with memorabilia and signatures. Such a fun little tourist stop if you're walking around Oceanside. Definitely worth stopping in just for the experience! 10/10. read more

An's (pronounced Ahns) in the famous Top Gun House is a fantastic addition to O'side! The airport inspired theme genuinely makes me want to pack a bag and travel. The view is great, the staff are very friendly, and there's extra seating inside, around the porch, and outside. ​When you enter, you'll find the Toast Lounge section, which is a cozy spot to relax and look at the Top Gun memorabilia. ​Like their other spots in Del Mar and Petco Park, this location features some unique flavor lineups. I really enjoy their pistachio flavors and I can't wait for them to bring over some Filipino inspired flavors. I haven't been to the other 2 locations in OB and North Park, but I'm sure they're just as good. Their gelato is kinda pricey, but you definitely get more value from the pints. You do have the option to order pints only online ahead of time if you already know what you want and just want to skip the long line. Otherwise, if it's your first time and you want to get a small cup or cone and sample all the flavors, just be prepared for the long line and wait. Parking can also be a hit or miss. Got to check out this place on a nice sunny day. Luckily the line wasn't too long. They actually had 4 vegan flavors for us to try- one wasn't on the menu but we were able to sample it. We tried a lemony one which was not on the menu and it was sweet but not my favorite. There was a delicious vanilla flavor and it was delightful. It was definitely our family's favorite. We tried another flavor that if I recall correctly had a bitter at the end, like a grapefruit. I wasn't a fan of the bitterness which hits you at the end. I honestly can't remember the other flavor we tried. The vanilla was by far the best and the guy even said that it would be the best vanilla we ever tried. I see the menu now has changed so it's worth checking out their website to see what's in rotation. The menu is small and it's location being across from the pier and at the historic Top Gun House make it a local and tourist destination. I was excited when An's GateD5 opened. It was our first An's experience, although they have had a good thing going around San Diego for a while now. A top rated gelato shop with really unique themes and fun flavors. I am in love with the Banana Chocolate combo! We selected a two scoop carry on after a smooth tasting flight. The airport theme is perfect for the former Top Gun House. We sat in the cozy lounge in the back but you might enjoy the porch at sunset across from the Oceanside Pier as an option. Visit August 2026: My family completely loves the An's franchise. We have stood in rain on a cold (for San Diego) January night to taste their incredible gelato creations. So when we were on the road passing through Oceanside, you bet we were excited to stop at the new franchise, "An's Gate D5." Set in the famous "Top Gun House", this site is a short walk from the pier. Our visit coincided with the "Super Girl Surf Festival" so the area was hopping even more than usual probably. Always expect a long wait at any An's establishment. From the moment we lined up, I timed 45 minutes to finally reach the counter. There was a concert playing across the street and with the people watching and even the low-riders cruzing by, the wait was actually quite tolerable. We also had visited at dusk so it was a lot cooler. The ambiance is a cross between Top Gun and the airport. There is a "Toast Lounge" lined with Top Gun pictures, a flight board, touristy gear like postcards and even neck pillows. A replica of the motorcycle that "Maverick" rode in the movies sits outside. If you're a fan, then it's totally cool. Service at any An's always seems to be spectacular. Super friendly and patient. Having to go through their "taste tour" spiel over a hundred times a day can probably get tiring and yet I have always been greeted with a vibrant smile and cheerful welcome. An's Gate D5 is no exception. An's gelato is annually recognized as the best. Creamy without any ice crystals. Flavor combinations that work harmoniously. Flavors usually change monthly at an An's so I expect the same here. At this visit, flavors were named after cities or towns ranging from California to Madagascar. It is always fun doing the taste tour and sometimes it's a flipping the coin because everything is so good. I chose the Visalia (pistachio and chocolate) and the Sambava (vanilla, honeycomb, chocolate). All the flavors worked together. There was one downer, and it's more the product that we are currently in a heat wave, but the heat and humidity made the gelato melt a lot quicker as I sat eating on their patio. There are a few seats inside but even with AC, it got a little warm a with the constant flow of traffic. It didn't help that there was a side door to a deck that was open allowing the warm air to keep flowing in. Something to monitor. Oceanside has moved up. In a short 10 year lifespan, the sleepy beach town has turned into hot spot for good eats and costal hotels. An's is a "chain" of sorts that is in select areas around so cal. Each one is a unique themed venue with their own gelato flavors. Gate D5 just opened up a few months ago at the Top Gun house and has been smashing it. Lines, lines and more lines. Smartly they keep a lot of the memorabilia so you can still sit on Maverick's Ninja. Five stars for the ambiance!!! Your journey starts with a sampling of all different flavors. The first is a palate cleanser. Then a few of their sorbet options. The flight then moves to their gelato offerings. My favorites: Cornbread/butter and Pistachio/chocolate. Overall the flavors were true tasting and forward. The texture was good but not as creamy as others I've tried. Overall 4 stars!!! Service was good! The server gave us sample of each flavor with requisite description. She smiled and seen to be in no rush to get our order even though the line was mounting. lol. Overall 4 stars. This is the fourth Ans gelato shop and is located close to the pier. It took over from the place that served slices of pie. I mean, I like pie just fine, but at the beach? When it is 80 or 90 degrees out? No, thank you. This is also the so-called "Top Gun" house, if anyone remembers that movie. We waited in line for probably a half hour but there are several reasons for this: the place is new, it is summer, there were a million people at the beach, and, for now, when you finally get your turn at the front, they are giving you samples of EACH of the flavors on sale. So, you get a full demonstration, and lots to sample, when it is your turn at bat. They probably had seven or eight flavors for sale during our visit and I liked all of them and probably loved four or five of them. One of them had huge pieces of cornbread in it (it was delicious). Another had real pieces of cake in it (it was also delicious). And I really loved the Ho Chi Minh gelato with coffee and bananas. It was fantastic. It is a small shop but the decor is great. It is modeled after an airport terminal and the attention to detail is fantastic. Is Ans cheap? No, and if you find cheap gelato or cheap groceries or cheap gas anywhere right now, let me know. Didn't get the "airport theme" at first, but once you try the gelato you forget all about that. Long lines cause they let you try all the flavors! And you they sample all thier flavors with a small metal spoon. First comes the pallete cleanser (genious) then when you think you've made your decision, they have you try all the flavors( which honestly all are good). Staff was friendly and you can choose 2 diff flavors in your cup or waffle cone. Again the aiport theme, eh , seemed like waste of space for their "toast lounge" .they have a tribute to the Top Gun Movie. But overall the gelato is very tatsy! Absolutely loved the gelato here! The employees are so sweet and friendly, and they took the time to answer our questions about how the gelato is made and where they source their ingredients. I am always a little timid about trying ice cream and gelato since I have a nut allergy and worry about cross-contamination. However, after I informed the employees of this, they made sure to scoop the gelato from the back to avoid cross-contamination. It is truly an experience when you are here, as you get to sample all their flavors. I ordered the Charleston which included honey, butter and cornbread and the Del Mar which cinnamon caramel, vanilla and cake pieces. I have been a long time fan of An's Dry Cleaning and was in the area, so decided to check out this new location! They repurposed the iconic Top Gun house for their shop. The outside of the house is super cute and has a beautiful ocean view. The airport themed interior on the other hand is... interesting. However, the gelato flavors and service were wonderful! One of my favorite things about An's is the flavor tour they offer where they let you try all the flavors they have available and give a detailed description of what each one is and what ingredients they use. They had so many unique flavors, including the Charleston (honey butter cornbread) and Ho Chi Minh (banana Vietnamese coffee). My favorite flavor I tried today was the Visalia, which was their pistachio and chocolate flavor - they use a pistachio paste and it tasted just like the pistachio gelato I had every day in Italy! I was definitely influenced to go here on social media due to its unique theming. We're not local to the area and thus are unfamiliar with the An's line of Gelatos. This location is in the Top Gun House, and is very conveniently across the beach. They open pretty late as well. The line is consistently quite long. We tried to go around 10:15PM, thinking it was shorter - but only marginally so. We waited ~45 minutes. First, the theming is pretty cool! I wish there was more of a chance to explore around but due to the wait and the crowd in a small space it's pretty hard to. :( The employees are super nice though! They offer you a palette cleanser first (which is also available to order) as a lemony gelato. They also ask about potential allergies. From their menu (circa August 2026) - Sambava (Loaded Vanilla Gelato with honeycomb toffee): This was one of my favorites! It was a really unique vanilla gelato based but packed with a variety of flavors that created a really special rich taste - Charleston (Honey Butter Cornbread): Really nice and sweet. I didn't expect to enjoy the cornbread as much but the flavors of honey and butter really shone - Ho Chi Minh (Banana & VIetnamese Coffee): I was hoping to love these flavors more but it was just okay. I love both banana and coffee and felt like it was not a well-blended mix - Del Mar (Vanilla, Cinnamon ,Caramel Cake): really tasted like a fresh coffee cake! This place took over the pie spot and this is way better! Got in just in time before the line got long. Love that they do an ice cream tasting of all there flavors and also explain it just like wine tasting. The only drawback to this is the wait time. We had 8 samples of ice cream and the first one the sample out is the palate cleanse which you can also purchase but is not on the menu. She also said that the ice cream flavors do change weekly. One vacation and visiting Oceanside for the first time. Apparently this store opened less than a month ago and the line was long! They were having their soft opening. An's Gate D5 I can see why people are drawn to this place--the location is beautiful, with a direct view of the ocean. Their social media presence is also very strong, and being located inside the famous Top Gun House definitely adds to the attraction. However, in my personal opinion, the gelato itself was nothing particularly special. I tried the Ho Chi Minh flavor, but it was a little too sweet for me, and the coffee flavor was not strong enough. I personally prefer my coffee bold and not overly sweet. The employees were very friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic. The prices are slightly higher than those of other nearby shops, but I understand that the location is right by the beach. Parking can also be difficult, especially if you have a baby and need to park close to the shop. Having to search for parking just to buy one scoop of gelato may make you think twice. read more

Had the best time at the new Ans shop in Oceanside! Whenever I have friends and family in town, I take them to Ans for the experience and best gelato in the US. This location is in the famous Top Gun house right at the beach. I love the memorabilia from the movie and way they decorated the inside. The flavor tours are one of my favorite parts of the experience. The people working there are always friendly and tell you about the details of each flavor so that you can decide while trying all the flavors they have. Even with this experience, the line moves fairly quickly plus I don't mind waiting right in front of the beach. The flavors for this location have been so interesting. Every time we passed by An's Gate D5, we couldn't help but stare--not only have we been dying to try their legendary artisan gelato, but it's located right inside the historic Top Gun House! As a huge fan of the movie, seeing that restored 1887 cottage in person was an awesome bonus. On our previous loops down Pacific Street, the line was wrapped out the door, so we kept postponing it. Truly the flavors are soooo good and real fruit (grapefruit was my favorite) but the orange, vanilla and cherry are yummy too. She remembered me by name a day after and where I was from! When I heard there was an An's coming to Oceanside, let alone in the Top Gun house, I was counting down the days until opening! I've been numerous times since open and I have yet to find something to complain about. My favorite time to go is on a weekday around 6 pm and there is usually little to no line. All the flavors are so unique and yummy. My favorite are the banana coffee and "pallet cleanser"! The staff is so helpful and patient with me when I want to switch it up. The staff is so personable and friendly every time I go. One guy ( I think a manager), who is always there, is very cool. It is also such a treat to get to eat inside the old Top Gun house. Makes me feel like I'm in a movie every time I go! This is my new go-to ice cream spot after I get dinner in Oceanside! read more

It finally arrived!! I had been waiting for it to open. I decided to try it when I walked by and didn't see a line. Great customer service. There were only a few people ahead of me on a Tuesday afternoon and the line moved quickly though everyone did the flavor tours. Definitely had service with a smile and the server was excited to share their favorites with me. I got the Charleston with the honey butter and cornbread- delicious!!! There are only two lines and they may back up if patrons are doing the flavor tour, but be patient it's worth it! The shop is really cute and very clean. read more

Very good ice cream except one part.. the sugar there is way to much the ice cream has very rich flavors which would stand out more if there wasn't as much sugar but the ice cream is very good but they give you a walkthrough through every flavor and samples but you do not have to if you say you don't want to read more

What a cute establishment! We had pistachio flavored and banana& Vietnamese coffee gelato. The texture of the gelato is great. I can taste that they use good ingredients. I do think flavor is ok. Pistachio one had fine chocolate chips and finely chopped pistachio and honestly the chocolate overpowered the flavor of pistachio as the base gelato itself has very mild flavor. Banana and Vietnamese coffee was really so so. If you know Vietnam coffee, it's a very strong and sweet coffee and all I could taste was banana but again also mild. If there isn't a long wait ( people sampling and having small talks which is great but service is real slow) I would go try something else but I would not line up for more than 10 min. read more
