My boyfriend and I were looking to go somewhere different after working all week, saw this little place and decided to try it. Such a great place!! He had the Ribeye and it was AMAZING!!! It literally melted in your mouth. I had the chicken strips which were also delicious! Our waitress was super sweet, she was right on top of everything, she was wonderful. I ordered a ribeye steak to go , complete with a baked potato, salad and a roll . Let me tell you it WAS AMAZING !! They even included butter and sour cream for the potato and roll. A small, dark restaurant (hence the name "Hideaway") for a cozy dinner. Dined here with my uncle and auntie, and had a very nice meal. We started off with sharing the cheese squares which were by far my favorite. Lightly fried, not too greasy, melty and gooey. I had a crispy side salad brought to me first as part of my meal. The blue cheese dressing tastes homemade and was very good. The salad is just a small plate of ice berg lettuce cut into pieces, nothing to write home about. The fried pickles appetizer was just meh, not sure if it was the breading that was underwhelming or that they were too salty. Not crispy enough. My main meal was Shrimp (grilled) and hash browns - ! - on the side. Hash browns as a dinner side dish?? YES please. I inhaled it. The shrimp was served on a skewer and were enormous pieces, perfectly grilled. It is a menu catering to the carnivores mostly, lots of steak and pork. If I didn't eat fish or seafood I would have been in bad shape as I don't think there was a vegetarian item on the menu (besides salad). Very limited if you don't eat any of the above. They also have chicken. It is a popular local place, and my parents used to frequent here back in the 70s and 80s. It is not my favorite place in the area due to the limited pescatarian/vegetarian items on the menu, but it is good food and service overall. read more

This out of the way little place in Naplate is... interesting. When I asked for a wine list, the response was ' we have red and white'. The IPA list was LaGuintas. Not an auspicious start. The dining room was a bit loud and not elegant. Then things got yummy. The warm bread loaf was soft with a crisp crust - delicious. I was willing to forgive the cheap cafe silverware and the bare bones salad in the plastic bowl with the hope the meal would be amazing. The main overall complaint I have is nothing.... Nothing had any flavor. Very bland. I had the fried chicken and a twice baked potato. The chicken was tender and crunchy, but zero seasoning. The potato was ok... More pasty than fluffy. Anne's is tucked back away from any major road but worth the drive to find it. Luckily, they have a large sign pointing to where it's located! It's a rather plain exterior with parking around and across from the entrance. There's also parking at the back. Upon entering you'll see the bar with some family seating. There's another large seating area in the back. There are two bathroom locations. The ones in the back of the larger seating area are nicer. The fried chicken is what they are known for and there is a reason why. It is delicious. I also enjoyed the fresh bread. The spaghetti was fine but I actually enjoyed it more the following day. Like many other reviews, I was told to try the fried chicken at Annes by someone who grew up in the area. So I took the family. The place is in an old house like many other places in Naplate, parking is limited. When I walked in the initial impression was poor...bad lighting and the place appeared run down...and not in that good "hole-in-the-wall" type of run down either. Dusty walls, old dusty tapistries, filthy carpets, etc. When the menues came they were bound in plastic and had greasy fingerprints and smudges all over them...gross. Ordered the fried chicken. The bread was good. The salad was just iceburg and I had a pool of water in the bottm of my bowl when done. Chicken was underwhelming...crispy on the outside but a bit dry inside and had NO flavor, they didn't even salt it. OMG, this place is great. My husband and I went there last night. It was recommended to us by a friend. At first, I was annoyed because my husband really really wanted to go, and we live in Plainfield, so it took us a little over an hour to get there. I kept saying why are we driving so far for some chicken? Heck, I think I make the best fried chicken on the planet in my own kitchen. LOL. Of course he ignored me, and off we were to take the trek to Annies. We got there and the place was packed, and I mean super packed. Again, I thought why did we drive this far to only have to wait a bazillion hours to be seated? Well, I was really surprised at how well they handled themselves. It being Valentine's Day weekend, there was just total overload, but even with all those people, the staff were on top of it. They were really working as a team to get things moving. The young man that was there at the front was super multi tasking to do whatever he needed to do to help out. Checking people in, cleaning tables, anything, and he had a great attitude about it. The building itself looks like a house from the outside. I wasn't sure what to expect. There was ample parking in the front and sides and across the street on the road, as well as a dedicated parking lot on the side and back of the restaurant. We were seated within 15 minutes of arriving. We did have reservations, but I was expecting to be waiting much longer past our scheduled time due to the sheer volume of people there. Our waitress was super cool, real honest, but had her hands full. She sat us, took our drink orders, and was back lickedy split. We got our drinks, and she took our orders. I had the DelMonico, which I think is offered only on Saturdays, and my husband ordered the fried chicken. Both came with salad, potato, and really amazing bread. I'm not talking just any bread, I'm talking "slap your mama" kind of amazing bread. We ate an entire loaf with our salads alone. When I asked our server, (whom was awesome by the way, I'm sorry I didn't get her name) about which salad dressing to get, she asked if I liked cucumbers, I asked her if I could try it first, she said yes, and Shazam!!!! I am hooked. I'm not sure why so many people are whining about the salad. You want a $9 gourmet salad, then go to Panera for christ sakes! So what if it was iceberg? Throw that cucumber dressing on it and you'll forget about what lettuce is in it. I loved the dressing so much I begged our waitress to bottle some up for me to take home, and she did just that. It cost a little bit, but we'll worth it. They need to bottle that stuff and sell it just like Olive Garden does their dressing. The stuff is amazing! By this time, I was happy as a lamb. My steak was huge, so I have leftovers to enjoy atleast for another 2 meals. My husband loved the fried chicken. I was jealous and ordered a chicken breast to go. And again, the bread was spectacular. The drive was long for us, but I'll tell you what, we will be making that haul again, for sure. We definitely got well more than what we paid for. My only regret thinking back is that I didn't get a few loaves of that bread to bring home. Kudos to the entire staff. There was nothing at all to complain about the restaurant. A gentlemen even came out and gave all the ladies a miniature snickers for Valentine's Day. That was a really sweet gesture. :-) ( Other than the really drunk, obnoxious group of (5) 40 someting couples looking for lots of attention. They were the only reason we left when we did, but thats not the restaurants fault) otherwise we would have stayed for the highly talked about cheesecake and brownies. Horrible sauteed mushrooms, worst I've had (just add some butter people, it's not that hard.) Rib eye had no flavor. It's as if they just broiled a slab of meat. Cooked to order. Bread was outstanding. Chicken strips were incredible. Side salad was a joke. Iceberg and dressing. Really? We were one of two tables on a Tuesday night and we never received refills on our drink except the one time I asked for them. We were pretty much ignored as our waitress was no where to be seen. Fantastic food! Truly, do not be fooled by the outside. We had the King Prime Rib and a slab of ribs. Delicious! The steak was cooked perfectly. Ask for the creamy horseradish sauce. We went there on a Saturday night, and we had a reservation so we were seated right away (although when we got there it wasn't busy anyways). They sat us at a horrible table - so we asked to be moved. They were pretty pissy about it, but they did move us. I think the waitress was really trying but just wasn't a good waitress - so ultimately the service was pretty bad. It took a long time to get drinks, and she was constantly forgetting to bring stuff we asked for (like someone's drink or mustard). She even joked when bringing the check that she just remembered my husband asked for mustard. The bread was amazing - I could have just eaten that it was so good! I ordered the chicken and ribs combo. Well apparently they "gave the ribs to another table by accident" so I didn't even get them until I was done with my chicken. The chicken was ok and the ribs were ok but nothing to rave about. The one good thing was you got a lot of food for the price. I agree with another poster - the salad was comical - just lettuce and dressing! Throw some croutons in there or something! My wife and I planned on seeing a movie in Ottawa Thursday night so we thought we give your restaurant a try. We were greeted with a smile and seated near the fireplace. So far so good. My wife ordered the wings special and I ordered 1/2 white chicken with pasta. Excellent both were very tasty and they were correct in saying the have the best chicken in the county! we went to this place because of the reviews we saw on here. we were not disappointed. The staff was great!!! they were very nice, and very friendly. my daughter ordered the lasagna, it was great. My wife ordered the filet it was good, not the best she had ever had but still very good. I had the chicken, once again very good. The chicken was cooked perfect.( I like it with more seasoning). The chicken would melt in your mouth so tender, but then very crispy on the outside, the way chicken should be. We will Deff. be back very soon. read more

I was told that this place had the best fried chicken anywhere so I was anxious to try this place out I was there last week. The place is a converted house and very quaint. I ordered the family style chicken special. The bread was great and I liked the salad. With the main course it came with a potato and pasta. The potato was tasty.. I'm a bit biased when it comes to pasta.. And the pasta was a bit plain for me. Once again I have a bias so don't put too much into this. As for the chicken, it was expertly made but lacked some flavour. I think it could have used more spices in the breading. This is a personal preference as I would imagine that many would appreciate a homemade fried chicken in this was. A big plus was that it wasn't too greasy. Which eludes most places that make fried chicken. Staff was very friendly and the bar selection looked good. So my quest for the best fried chicken around isn't over but if you want to enjoy down home cooking with friendly people.. You should go here read more

Hi. We read the reviews here and wanted to cone here. We walked, greeted by the staff and seated to our table. I ordered their family style fried chicken as the reviews stated they were to die for. My girlfriend ordered new york strip. The bread came out and it was, for the most part, hard as a rock. The chicken had absolutely no seasoning at all. Very, very bland. The steak was seasoned but could have used more. Spaghetti was not good. Very disappointed with this place and will not come back. AND THEY CHARGED A FEE TO USE A CREDIT CARD!!! We absolutely love the food. recently moved closer to the city, so we don't get down here as often as my Dad and I would like. It's a really homely joint, and I have never ordered anything other than the fried chicken! I could easily say, BEST FRIED CHICKEN ANYWHERE, HANDS-DOWN!! You can't beat the friendly atmosphere, service, food (yet as another reviewer mentioned, bit lack-luster on the salad...but you don't come here for that), or value. Not a great experience here. Food took an hour and a half to get to the table. The "Italian twist" appetizer was a flavorless pretzel, and the lasagna wasn't what you expect to get when you order a lasagna. Instead of layered sheets of pasta it was egg noodles with scoops of Ricotta on top and coated in red sauce. It was edible, but it wasn't what I ordered.
