Went to Gold Mine Restaurant also known as "Golden Mine" restaurant in Spring Valley with a couple friends from my church. It's a little HIDDEN GEM that locals enjoy in the area. There dining room is open without COVID restrictions. Got the Gold Mine Omelette with a side of sausage gravy and it was well worth the money. Was very filling, very hot, and VERY fresh. I save my 5s for truly exceptional places though this one is still very good. Most importantly I love getting the feeling of a town by visiting and supporting a local establishment. This diner is a little run down but kind of in that perfect diner way. It isn't flashy, but diners shouldn't be. The food was very good (our group had- pancakes, ham, eggs, grilled cheese, salad) and the menu offers an extensive amount of options covering all breakfast foods you'd expect, a long list of sandwiches, a number of more substantial entrees, a children's menu, and even healthy options which can rarely be found at diners (a section of the menu even notes low calorie items). Service was very friendly and the prices were all incredibly reasonable. I found this place via Yelp, which I am relying on more and more when traveling to help me differentiate the best local places and avoid the chains. Again, I debated giving a 5 but I want my 5s to really stand out as my most exceptional meals. Nonetheless, I wholeheartedly recommend this small town Main Street diner and would look forward to going back next time we pass through town. read more

Great food & really friendly service! My dad & I came in here for a late lunch and left pleasantly full. He had the open-faced Meatloaf and mashed potatoes plate, which was homemade in-house and delicious. Good flavor and plenty of gravy to top it off. I had the deluxe Mushroom and Swiss Burger with fries which had great flavor and was grilled perfectly. There was a delicious Dessert Tower which we felt compelled to check out - and we were glad we did! We split the most delicious piece of Lemon Meringue pie which was the perfect end to a really nice visit. Our server was Connie and she took great care of us - even putting up with my dad's bad jokes. We'll definitely be back! read more

Great small town restaurant. There were lots of regulars that must congregate for breakfast. I had a bacon and cheese omelette and biscuit. It was full of bacon and tasted great. My guest had eggs and hash and he said it was great as well. I don't get to Spring Valley too often but I will be back for breakfast next time I'm in town. Stellar restaurant !!!!!! I live an hour away so rarely get up to Spring Valley. A group of us hunt annually for waterfowl opener and we chose to try the Gold Mine this year. Service was incredible and efficient. Food was awesome and very very reasonable. The servers were really hospitable and the prices were very reasonable. The food, however, was nothing spectacular. I ordered a basic breakfast - 2 eggs with bacon and hashbrowns. The eggs were okay, the bacon was nice and crispy, but the hashbrowns tasted mushy and flavorless. I like eating at the Gold Mine Restaurant. The only drawback to this place is that you have to have cash or a check to pay for your meal. They do not accept debit or credit cards. I know this is a big drawback but a lot of people eat here even at breakfast and lunch time. I think weekends are the busiest and sometimes there are not a lot of tables open. If you pay with a check though, they will let you put the tip on there if you don't have much cash with you. I usually just go to the ATM first before I go down there to eat because I hate writing checks. I like to go here on Fridays and get the salmon with mashed potatoes and soup or a salad. What kind of soup they have that day determines whether or not I will get the soup or choose a salad. I like their potato soup, chicken and rice, and chicken and dumplings. I think they usually have the chicken and dumplings on Wednesday. Sometimes on Friday they have chilli but they didn't last Friday. I guess it just depends on what they decide to make for that day. I don't really like the salad because it is just iceberg lettuce with a few tomato slices on it but I eat it anyway if they don't have a soup that I want because I figure it comes with the meal. I wish they bought romaine lettuce because then the salad would actually have some nutritional value. But they have a lot of good food here. The chicken strips are good as well as their fried chicken too. When you order fried chicken, it takes a little bit longer and they will warn you that it might take a while. I recommend that you check it out if you want to find a little place to have dinner at or even for breakfast too they are good.
