An 80% initial payment ($800) was demanded (last minute!) when taking measurements, accepting only cash or check. Neither of the two requirements were communicated over phone/text. Frank said that he "assumed" everyone always has cash and checks lying around so he didn't bother asking over the 3 earlier phone calls. They also charge customers for the entire cost of the mirror so they don't have to pay a dime out of pocket for procuring material. 2. They don't respect time. A 2 hour delivery window was provided and they arrived 1 hour AFTER the delivery window. Meaning that I had to move appointments last minute to accommodate their unprofessionalism. 3. The hole for the power outlet was cut too small and circular, instead of the right size and rectangular. They took off the plate, exposing the insides of the outlet and left it that way. Frank then refused to fix it and argued for 20 minutes over the phone, making personal remarks to my husband like "I thought you know how to do electrical work, your wife was bragging to me about how you can do anything", random, made-up remarks to fit his agenda. Suffices to say that they don't give a crap about providing good customer experience.

We were recommended to talk to Cornerstone Construction to fix what turned out to be serious problems with the way the work was done. They enlisted the help of an engineer to assess the problems and formulate a design to fix the problems, and then framed the roof in a way which is now very strong (it was in danger of collapsing under one more snow). I was very impressed with the structural work which is not seen as well as the finish work which is seen. Eric and Phil made a difficult process for us go as easy as possible. I will not hesitate to use them again or to recommend them to anyone I know who needs work like this done. Both of them showed repeatedly they were doing more than just an excellent home repair and remodel, but also served us in the process. Thank you, Eric, Phil & crew!

Most of them didn't even return phone calls for 6 to 8 weeks, but Joe Hopkins and his crew were at our home quickly and gave us a no BS assessment of best and worst case scenarios. They were also 1/3 less than the other bids even for the low-end repair. In order to reduce costs we wanted to reuse our bathtub, shower glass, shower pan, and our original plumbing fixtures. While the "glass guy" said there was only a 20% chance of being able to reuse all the original glass, the carpenters and tile installers managed to restore the original shower dimensions so that all the glass just fit right in. We interacted with all the crew - carpenters, electrician, plumbers, tile installers, drywall god, painter, and the glass installers; they were, to a man, professional and genuinely nice people. At no time did we ever feel we were being snowed, and work progressed steadily. Joe Hopkins showed up frequently to check in on state of affairs and was up to date on the details of the job. Final results left us with a better shower than we had when it was a brand new home. We plan to use Cornerstone again for future projects.

Truly 0 stars. I hired Jack Brooks to finish my basement (bathroom, bedroom, family room, laundry…read moreroom) before he had any reviews. He is the horrible gift that keeps on giving. I will summarize the highlights: 1) He changed the venting of my furnace to make it not to code. Thanks to his changes the furnace then failed in the middle of the winter. He apologized for this. 2) He did not secure the hot water heater to code and now it has fallen against the wall and is not working properly. 3) He created a gas leak. Enough said 4) The plumbing in the bathroom leaks behind the wall. The fix will require demolition, hiring a plumber, and redoing bathroom wall and shelving. 5) He did electric work when I asked him not to and it was completely wrong. I had to hire a competent electrician to decipher the mess and rewire. 6) I paid for things he never did (I guess that is on me) 7) It took 9 months and the job was not completed. (Estimate was 4 months) 8) He was not responsive to problems and then simply disappeared. I would sue him if I could. At the best he is incompetent. At the worst he is a crook.

I was immediately struck by his amiable, positive energy and thoughtful attention to detail. My sizable backyard was long overdue for a makeover. An ugly chain link fence bordered my property on the street side, the yard had been left pretty much unattended by the previous owner to the point that it had become overrun by a tangled jungle of out of control shrubbery, weeds, and bluebells. Not to mention the old and cracked concrete patio that was in need of replacing. From the outset, I came away super impressed by Adam's thoroughness, communication skills, and professionalism. It's clear that he's got a perfectionist's eye--which I've learned is what you absolutely want from a contractor. His estimate was itemized and detailed, giving me a clear and accurate description of the scope of the work to be done. He never tried to upsell me on expanding the scope of the work unnecessarily and even went so far as to talk me out of unnecessary expenses, always mindful of what my yard needed or didn't need. When it came time to start the project in earnest a year later (yes, I was willing to wait and you should, too!), Adam and his terrific team showed up always on time and never left the site messier than they had found it, efficiently and incredibly transforming my backyard blank canvas into a hangout space and garden I can finally enjoy. The work Adam and his team do are second to none and I wouldn't hesitate to use his services again. Added a few before / after photos for reference.

I take no joy in writing this review because I think Danner is about the nicest guy you could ever…read moremeet. I believe he is honest and I believe he does fine work. I have no doubt that the 5 5-star reviews on Yelp are genuine and reflect the feedback of very satisfied customers. However, based upon my experience, I also believe the single, filtered, 1-star review is also genuine. So what does that say about McCashen Construction Company? Simply that you are likely to be quite satisfied, but don't be surprised if you have some aggravation along the way. If Yelp allowed for half stars, this would be a 2.5 star review. Here's my experience. Danner came out for an initial measure and estimate in February 2012. I liked him immediately and he ended up staying much longer than he needed to, as we were both enjoying the conversation. I received the estimate by email the next day. Installation of front entry door Insulate and trim Installation of hardware $500.00 plus tax Now normally I would get a few estimates for work like this, but I liked Danner so much and the reviews on Yelp were so positive, that I figured there was really no point. We waited several months to actually begin the work. I didn't want to be replacing the front door in the middle of winter after all. In April we were ready to begin the work in earnest. I contacted the office on April 20th to have the measurements sent to Frank Lumber where the door was being built. By May 4th the measurements still hadn't been received, so I followed up and two days later Frank Lumber finally had the info. By June 25th, the door was ready so I contacted the office again and was told, "We are on vacation the 5 threw (sic) 18th. We can install on the 23rd?" I wasn't really thrilled about waiting a month, but they were busy and deserved a vacation, so what can you do? Fast forward to June 22nd, the afternoon before our appointment, I received an email: "I double scheduled tomorrow in error and I will have to schedule you for next Tuesday. I am sorry I wrote your name down on the calender (sic) for Tuesday, July 30th by mistake." By now I'm starting to see a pattern and I'm starting to get annoyed. Tired of dealing only through email I called the office and voiced my displeasure, which resulted in getting my install date pushed up by a few days. On the day of the install, Danner and his son appeared right on time and ready to work. Danner was his usual irrepressible self. He looked at the door delivered by Frank Lumber and immediately asked about the molding. Molding? I hadn't even noticed that the molding was missing. Well we can deal with that later. The work was deliberate and confident. Out went the old door and slowly but surely the new door went in. Ultimately the door was installed and it looked fantastic, despite the missing molding. Turns out Danner neglected to include molding in the measurements that were sent to Frank Lumber. He assured us that it was no problem and provided us with a list of all the supplies we needed to finish off the work. Go here, he told us to buy molding. Then, go there, to buy stain. Then do this and that to stain it and then as soon as you're done, I'll come back and put it all up. Uh, OK. So we spent the better part of a Saturday stressing out trying to figure out what we needed and whether we were buying the right stuff and trying to figure out how in the world we were going to stain it. And then it hit me. I just spent $5000 on a custom built new front door and side panels and I'm going to stain the trim myself? Are you kidding me? How absurd that it would even be suggested. So I emailed the office and told them that they needed to call Frank Lumber and order the molding for me. This is part of the job and not my responsibility. Finally, the molding got ordered and delivered and I set up one final appointment to have it installed. Well that should be pain-free, right? Not so much. As a final aggravation, I was told that they are going to charge me an additional fee to install the molding at which point I called bullshit. The molding is part of the door. It's a pretty simple concept. Several emails later they agreed to install the molding without any up charge. In the end, the door looks great, but my goodness was it aggravating to get there. So would I recommend Danner? Would I use him again? Yes, think I can recommend him, but no, I will not personally use him again, not because of his work, but because of all the aggravation I encountered along the way.

Weathering and age had caused it to swell, fade, and sag, and eventually the door became difficult to open. They were one of three companies to give us a bid, and apart from offering us the best cost, I was also partial to Danner's professional interaction, and his sweet demeanor. We arranged to have the door fixed, it was done in the time he said it would be, and with our new hardware installed, and the door hanging correctly it now opens like a brand new door in a brand now house.
