I take no joy in writing this review because I think Danner is about the nicest guy you could ever meet. I believe he is honest and I believe he does fine work. I have no doubt that the 5 5-star reviews on Yelp are genuine and reflect the feedback of very satisfied customers. However, based upon my experience, I also believe the single, filtered, 1-star review is also genuine. So what does that say about McCashen Construction Company? Simply that you are likely to be quite satisfied, but don't be surprised if you have some aggravation along the way. If Yelp allowed for half stars, this would be a 2.5 star review. Here's my experience. Danner came out for an initial measure and estimate in February 2012. I liked him immediately and he ended up staying much longer than he needed to, as we were both enjoying the conversation. I received the estimate by email the next day. Installation of front entry door Insulate and trim Installation of hardware $500.00 plus tax Now normally I would get a few estimates for work like this, but I liked Danner so much and the reviews on Yelp were so positive, that I figured there was really no point. We waited several months to actually begin the work. I didn't want to be replacing the front door in the middle of winter after all. In April we were ready to begin the work in earnest. I contacted the office on April 20th to have the measurements sent to Frank Lumber where the door was being built. By May 4th the measurements still hadn't been received, so I followed up and two days later Frank Lumber finally had the info. By June 25th, the door was ready so I contacted the office again and was told, "We are on vacation the 5 threw (sic) 18th. We can install on the 23rd?" I wasn't really thrilled about waiting a month, but they were busy and deserved a vacation, so what can you do? Fast forward to June 22nd, the afternoon before our appointment, I received an email: "I double scheduled tomorrow in error and I will have to schedule you for next Tuesday. I am sorry I wrote your name down on the calender (sic) for Tuesday, July 30th by mistake." By now I'm starting to see a pattern and I'm starting to get annoyed. Tired of dealing only through email I called the office and voiced my displeasure, which resulted in getting my install date pushed up by a few days. On the day of the install, Danner and his son appeared right on time and ready to work. Danner was his usual irrepressible self. He looked at the door delivered by Frank Lumber and immediately asked about the molding. Molding? I hadn't even noticed that the molding was missing. Well we can deal with that later. The work was deliberate and confident. Out went the old door and slowly but surely the new door went in. Ultimately the door was installed and it looked fantastic, despite the missing molding. Turns out Danner neglected to include molding in the measurements that were sent to Frank Lumber. He assured us that it was no problem and provided us with a list of all the supplies we needed to finish off the work. Go here, he told us to buy molding. Then, go there, to buy stain. Then do this and that to stain it and then as soon as you're done, I'll come back and put it all up. Uh, OK. So we spent the better part of a Saturday stressing out trying to figure out what we needed and whether we were buying the right stuff and trying to figure out how in the world we were going to stain it. And then it hit me. I just spent $5000 on a custom built new front door and side panels and I'm going to stain the trim myself? Are you kidding me? How absurd that it would even be suggested. So I emailed the office and told them that they needed to call Frank Lumber and order the molding for me. This is part of the job and not my responsibility. Finally, the molding got ordered and delivered and I set up one final appointment to have it installed. Well that should be pain-free, right? Not so much. As a final aggravation, I was told that they are going to charge me an additional fee to install the molding at which point I called bullshit. The molding is part of the door. It's a pretty simple concept. Several emails later they agreed to install the molding without any up charge. In the end, the door looks great, but my goodness was it aggravating to get there. So would I recommend Danner? Would I use him again? Yes, think I can recommend him, but no, I will not personally use him again, not because of his work, but because of all the aggravation I encountered along the way. read more

My office is located in a building that's somewhere between 80 and 100 years old, and my best guess is that our front door is probably about that same age. Weathering and age had caused it to swell, fade, and sag, and eventually the door became difficult to open. Clients would joke about whether or not we'd locked them out because the door was so difficult to open. Finally we got tired of it and arranged with our company to have the door sanded down and fixed. Enter McCashen Construction. They were one of three companies to give us a bid, and apart from offering us the best cost, I was also partial to Danner's professional interaction, and his sweet demeanor. We arranged to have the door fixed, it was done in the time he said it would be, and with our new hardware installed, and the door hanging correctly it now opens like a brand new door in a brand now house. Nice and smooth. We're super happy with the work and I'd recommend McCashen to anyone in need or similar work, or any of the services that McCashen provides. It's a shame, I was very excited at the good reviews. Seems like they do great work when they manage to show up. I made several phone calls over the course of a couple of weeks. 90% of the time my calls were caught by an answering machine during business hours. The one time someone answered, they said "hello?" and required prompting from me to confirm that I had called a place of business. Made appointment to have my doors measured so that I could place an order with the factory and have them do an install. Measuring should only take a few minutes. First appointment: 5:00 in the evening on a Friday. Received call after 5:00 informing me that he was in Maple Valley (45 min away) but would still come up, even though it was late. I told him; no big deal, I'd reschedule, no reason to dig into his weekend or mine. Second appointment couldn't be scheduled for almost another two weeks. 11:00 am schedule. Received call at 11:40, informing me that he was 15 minutes out. I left the house at 12:05 and called the answering machine (of course) to cancel. Now my project is more than two weeks behind. At least the economy seems to be picking up, as they have so much work, they can't be bothered with my business. read more

Not a reliable communicator or scheduler! We hired Danner to install a set of exterior patio doors for us at the recommendation of Frank Lumber/The Door Store. He came and measured the door so we could order it. When we attempted to schedule an installation date, it took many days for him to return our voice messages (we left several). Eventually we mutually agreed on a date for him to come and do the work. That date arrived, and no Danner, no communication, no nothing. After repeatedly trying to reach him, we finally got an email at the end of the day saying that there was a scheduling error (they hadn't written our job on their calendar), and that we were going to be bumped. He offered to do the job a month later. That was the end of it for us with Danner; we hired someone else. As it turned out, the measurements Danner had originally made were partly incorrect which required extra work on the part of the second contractor to address. read more

I really enjoyed everything about working with Danner and MaryAnn. Great job done to put a new Dutch door (we call it a Mr. Ed door :-) ) in our 1932 cape cod style home. First impression/estimate was great - installation was great. I'm absolutely over the moon with the amazing job that Danner did to repair our front door frame. Not only did he go the extra mile in matching the trim, sealing and caulking the area, installing extra long screws into the frame and door jamb as well as even fixing the wall paper that had separated from the wall near the door frame. We had all three of our entry doors replaced by Danner. I can't begin to describe how pleased we are with the results. We procrastinated for almost 20 years to replace them and finally got the job done. Danner is an extremely friendly, professional worker. We purchased all three doors from Fank Lumber The Door Store and they were the ones that put us in touch with Danner. Two of the doors were finished by Aero-Lac and Danner coordinated the pickup from them. Danner, the owner of McCashen Construction is a friendly, painstaking professional carpenter, and he did a beautiful job installing our bathroom door! He arrived on time, and it only took about three hours to install the door and all the surrounding molding, fit the handle, and adjust the door so its swing was perfect! He also gave us some advice about how to get the finisher to complete the finish at my house, since they had accidentally left the edges of the molding unfinished; his advice worked out perfectly.
