4.5 stars I love Anna Maria's in Carrboro. It's my #1 go-to pizza spot, right up there with Village Pizza & Pasta in Chatham County. Ther pizza is the closest to authentic NY style pizza that you will find in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. And their white pizza is amazing--it has tons of ricotta and garlic. I'm also a huge fan of their pepperoni, broccoli and onion calzones, which can feed 2 and are packed full of toppings for only $8! Go here and grab a slice, or take home a whole pie. But make sure you go to the Chapel Hill/Carrboro location, not the one in Graham. The one in Graham is the worst--they don't cook their pizza all the way through and they barely give you any toppings. read more

Quick lunch for some slices. Very tasty. About a 10 minute wait at lunch rush. Clean and plenty of seating. Grab a slice. read more

The food was excellent. They have a friendly staff and excellent work service. I enjoyed the ambiance which reminded me of a simpler time. Their pizza is definitely my favorite and I always go for an extra-large pizza. read more

Food is mediocre at best nowadays they have gone downhill very badly many years ago but before then they were great and a family get together place. The food is made wrong to often in my past couple experiences I give them a try here and then because I hope the get better again. Prices have gone up and the food taste bad now like ingredients used taste old or like they are kept properly this is from experience working in restaurants Service is a hit and miss depends on who's upfront they could use a change of face and have someone more friendly up at the register, the ambience feels grey and that sounds weird but it's how it feels to me I feel like they need a revamp reopening and new look it feels doll I don't feel happy read more

We order takeout from here about once a month. We love their lasagna, manicotti, garlic knots and pizza. Always on time and very friendly read more

Food: pizza is really good. Specialty slice of Hawaiian is favorite. Steak and cheese is better than average. I wish they'd put the lettuce tomato and mayo on after they heat the steak and cheese on the bun. Onion rings are not worth ordering, soft and really greasy, so oil isn't hot enough and they're getting dunked when frozen. Service: terrific. Nice guys. Always responsive. Ambience: ok. It's a stand up order pizza parlor. read more

Who knew! $2 for a slice of cheese, tastes like anything you'd get on a NY corner. Reminds me of a pizza place we'd go to back in my hometown. read more

genuinely not sure how the ratings are not all 5 stars. this is the closet to NEPA pizza I've ever had in NC. the staff was friendly, service was fast, and the place is clean. also, every table is stocked with seasonings read more

I'm from NY, and I love pizza. I ordered the NY white pizza for here and it was absolutely fantastic. There are a lot of places that claim they have NY pizza... This one actually does. From my first bite to the last I was taken back to NY. Also, you can order by the slice. While there I met the owners who were attentive and friendly. This is a must go place. read more

They always have good NY style pizza. Decently priced and good for the size. Always a go to pizza place.

Stopped in with a large group after a UNC basketball game. You order at the counter and they'll bring the food to your table. Besides pizza, it looks like they have calzones, strombolis and pasta dishes. The food was decent and this seems like a reliable pizza joint but if you're looking for more upscale pizza, Chapel Hill and Carrboro have plenty of options. One of our group said this is her regular spot for takeout pizza, so she is a fan. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I wanted to try out a local place for pizza and based off the reviews, thought this would be a good place. I was wrong. They have a website associated with them with a menu and prices. I ordered based off those prices. I was not given a total over the phone and they charged me $5 more than I expected. It was a classic bait and switch. They have a different price menu in house than their website. Do NOT go here, absolute scumbag behavior read more

Stopped in after a football game at about 8:30pm. It was not very busy, which we found surprising. The pizza was good though. Came out pretty quick and we all enjoyed it! read more

I tried this place because of the positive reviews. I ordered a NY Sausage Stromboli. What I got was a bread roll with some cheese and exactly TWO pieces of sausage and THREE pieces of pepper. I have never been so disappointed in a local restaurant. They will never have to worry about getting any more of my money. If I could give less than a 1-star rating, I would. read more

We loved the greek pizza. Fresh veggies and flavorful Best we've had in a long time.

the prices on their menue for a cheese large is just shy of $12 but when you go to pick it up it's $17.honesty should count for something.

I love this place. I would classify it as a "hole in the wall" pizza place with great sandwiches and daily lunch specials. I can get two deluxe pizza slices for under 8.00 and the portions are HUGE. They are friendly and once you order your slices, they'll bring it to you. They always treat local teachers with extra kindness. I'm a sucker for their vegetarian pizza options. They load it up with toppings and it's not greasy!! Crust is chewy and thin, my favorite. read more

Dishonest staff. Avoid take-out ordering at all cost. We called in for a large cheese pizza. Not complicated, right? Guy says 20 min but doesn't take our name. We show up and he claims "he never got our order; what number did you call?" Show him the i-Phone and his number matches the one we called. He says "well I don't have a large pizza for you--never got your order." WTF?! Guy in line two people in front of us is sitting down with three cheese slices. Deceitful Pizzeria should be restaurant's new name. I guess we would have to deal with it If the pizza was excellent. But...hmmm...nope! read more

Best pizza in the area... large w extra mushrooms my personal favorite! Great eggplant subs too! Pizza Slices Carrboro Pizza

We have been getting pizzas here for years, but last night was the last time. While eating his 3d slice of pepperoni pizza, our 14 yo son found a roach in the pizza. This was bad enough, but almost as bad was the way my husband was treated by the staff at Anna Maria's when he took the pizza and roach back to Anna Maria's to alert them and, we would have expected from any business, to get our $40 back. Instead of apologizing or refunding our money, the two attendants vehemently (and surlily) denied that there were or had ever been, roaches on the premises. When my husband insisted that our order did indeed have a roach in it, and that if they did not at least refund our order, he would spread the word, they threatened that he "had better be careful" what he said. When he got home, I looked up their health inspection reports online at NC Public Health Inspections. Current grade is 91.5 (lowest in two years). Reports for 7/18/12 and 9/4/13 show roaches present, among multiple serious food safety infractions. Prudent and food safety conscious eaters will want to find better places to have pizza. read more

Anna Maria, I miss ya! I used to live about a 1/4 mile from the place and be a regular customer. Boy was I happy when I found Anna Maria's because it's real italian food! They do a very nice NJ style pizza which to me means a bit more cheese and a bit thicker crust than NY style but still damn good. What I don't get is the comments about the subs not being good because they are awesome too. I fell in love with the chicken/veal parmigian which is heavenly. A nice sized sub, with breaded meat, wrapped up in nice marinara sauce and melting cheese, wow! You are missing out if you don't try that bad-boy... Decor is basic pizzeria style: formica tables, self-serve drinks, some neon signs and a couple of TV's with ESPN. Staff is very nice, it's a family run restaurant from NJ. So you can say the place is authentic. They also do some pastas and garlic knots but I could never get past the delicious pizzas and subs. So if you're in the area, stop by Carrboro Plaza for a bit. Anna Maria's is a little taste from home if you're a Jersey boy or girl.... read more

Sadly this used to be one of my favorite places...but sadly it has gone downhill very fast. The pizza isn't as fresh or good as it used to be and the prices for stuff is so high now and specially compared to other pizza places in town like carrboro pizza oven is delicious and IP3 is way better and each slice of pizza is made fresh not heated up. They need a new look a boost of moral and better customer service the owners or workers there are pretty rude and don't have customers service talent like they should. If they can fix it I will change my review but for now it's depressing for me to even drive by it and before it used to make me happy and excited.... read more

The Carrboro Plaza is weird. Judging by the looks of the place, it's basically a time machine that only goes to 1985. But in 1985, the pizza I got at Anna Maria's still would have been considered lousy, even by Ronald Reagan standards. Lukewarm, chewy, greasy: it was like I was gnawing on the Gipper himself. I've never lived in a place with SO MANY pizza places, yet almost no good pizza. The search continues for good, non-fancy ass Mercado-style pie. read more

The pizza was some of the best I've ever had in the area, but our order was given away to someone. The staff kindly made our order again, but didn't offer a discount for the wait. I'm willing to try this place again - it seems like dine-in may be the better option. read more

Clean and amazing! Anna Maria's delivers in all respects, owners are first generation Italians and know their stuff! I was motivated to leave this review because it seems like there are a lot of people on here that want to be "food critics" who want to pretend like they're Gordon Ramsey and find things to complain about. I eat here multiple times a week, its part of my community, do yourself a favor and check out Anna Maria's! read more

I've been a happy customer of Anna Maria's for a few years now. Love the food, but my most recent experience there has me rethinking if I want to spend my money there. I ordered a sandwich to go and when I went to pick it up, the person running the register was going on a rant about how the government was going to go door to door and take everyone's guns. Then he asked me what my opinion was. When I said nobody needs assault rifles, he again said that Obama was going to go door to door and take everyone's guns, just like they did with the gold coins a few years ago. I have no idea what he was talking about. Then he said nobody was gonna take his guns away from him. I wanted to throw my sandwich at him and ask for my money back. I just wanted some food, not a right wing nutjob lecture. Unfortunately, I won't be back to Anna Maria's Pizzeria any time soon. Which is a shame because their food is great. read more

After tasting the pizza at Anna Maria's Hillsborough store several months ago, I wrote it off as just another Pizza Hut wannabe. I didn't even take the time to review it! A fellow Yelper (Ron W.) suggested Anna Maria's Carrboro pizzeria after he read my review of IP3 in Chapel Hill. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the pizza at the Carrboro store. However, I do have some quibbles with the Carrboro pizza. For starters, it is not really a thin crust, but it's not too thick either. They're also a little too generous with the cheese and sauce, which makes the pizza a little "gloppy" during consumption. However, they get the whole baking thing right. The dough is reasonably stiff without being overcooked. When you fold the pizza slice down the middle with your index finger as you pick it up, it stays folded almost to the tip. If you look at the bottom of the slice you should see some blackened spots. Not burnt, just blackened. A good sign! So the crust holds up well and is not gummy. Would I travel to eat this pizza? Probably not. But if I'm in Carrboro and I have a hankerin' for pizza, I'll definitely head over to Anna Maria's read more

I've been here countless amounts of times, still one of my favorite pizza places in the Chapel Hill area. It's a place I've gone to over the years and made many memories with friends. The slices are always warm and cheesy but not too hard or hot that I can't chew it. The garlic knots are also pretty good, so try those out if you like garlic knots. Bottom line: must try if you like pizza read more

Love this place! One of the best pizza places in town. Great prices. Awesome workers.

Best cheap pie in town. I love the family that works here they are so kind. Sandwiches are really good too

If there is a pizza place to trust in Carrboro - Anna Maria Pizzeria is the most fav destinations for our family. Pizzas are awesome, people are super friendly. My most favorite one is the "vegetarian" pizza that has a spinach, feta, and tomatoes. My least favorite is All Meat as its a bit oversaulty and over-fatty to my taste. read more

Pizza is good but I just placed my second order ever for pick-up and pretty much had to beg the guy taking my phone order to be patient. He was incredibly rude and insisted on hanging up because he was so impatient with taking the order. With service like this, don't count on them being in business much longer. Too bad because the veggie pizza is some of the best around. read more

This is my favorite pizza place in Chapel Hill or Carrboro. Almost half of their staff speaks Italian and can cook like they're from Italy. Their RIO RANCHO PIZZA aka "Ranchero" is THE BEST THING EVER if you like bacon and blends of Italian cheeses as well as tomatoes and ranch sauce. Their normal pies are also quite above the average pizza in the area. Their prices are slightly above Pizza Hut / Dominoes but below a good amount of MOST DEFINITELY WORSE "yuppie" type pizza places in the area that charge way too much for something worse than the food here. My father, his best friend, and myself LOVE this place in Ft. Lauderdale, FL called Franco and Vinnie's Pizza and my dad's friend said that Anna Maria's was almost as good as Franco and Vinnies (LEGENDARY in FT. LAUDERDALE). After trying everything but certain pasta dishes and a few subs there I would have to agree. For the price (anywhere from $5-15 a head) you can't go wrong. Very authentic food... I've been hooked since 2002 when my friend who has an Italian last name (no I'm not trying to be cute) introduced me to the place and along with (more than one) slice of that Rio Rancho pizza! Also their APPETIZERS are OFF THE CHAIN!!! read more
