My husband ordered me flowers for my birthday and this is the masterpiece that was created. The flowers are high quality, the arrangement is everything I could have wanted. When the flowers were initially delivered, I was greeted with "Happy Birthday" being sung to me! Yes, you heard that right, the delivery person sang happy birthday to me. It was really nice. I'm currently out of state but wanted to send some flowers to my graduate student, who just defended her dissertation. I placed the order on a Monday night, and they were delivered by Tuesday afternoon. They didn't quite look like the photo, but they are similar and still quite beautiful. Never a worse experience in my life with a florist. Let me just start by saying directly to the management: your poor customer service cost you countless dollars from me. This diva always keeps fresh flowers! I try to avoid jumping into a bad review, especially for a small shop, but there is no excuse for bad customer service, they would have had a great review had they just fixed the issues! I found this place since it had great reviews here and is less than a mile from my home! I regularly have fresh cut flowers delivered and since a good friend of mine is long-distance, he loves to send me flowers regularly to stay in touch! Well I gave him this listing to send flowers for my baby blessing. I'm so glad I did not instruct him to order more yet. I would have been in tears! I have been wanting to fill my home birth space with fresh flowers and I'm really glad I gave this a trial one with one arrangement first! He got one arrangement of sunflowers to start as pictured. I have an arrangement currently dying from two weeks ago, and the ones that are dying looked better than this atrocity! In the photos, this is exactly how they were when I opened the package! No joke! The flowers themselves are poorly arranged, drooping, and deformed! Some of the sunflowers are misshapen, deformed, and all are half-closed! They are all stragglers of the crop you DON'T pick for an arrangement! Some of the stalks of accent flowers are completely bare save one flower on them. The berries they put in it are all drooping as well. It's like a joke! See for yourself in the pictures. The filler foliage is just crammed into the vase at the bottom. So my friend called and asked for a refund or new arrangement. They refused. He luckily is disputing it with his credit card company. I can NOT believe they refused to send a replacement at least! Proper customer service would be to replace them bare minimum, if not providing a full refund as well! They told him the flowers are heavy that's why they droop. Um, no. That's not how sunflowers work first of all - I buy them frequently. Secondly, as a florist they should know to reinforce droopy flowers, which sunflowers are not in any case. But nope, they just stuffed them in a vase, delivered them without calling as instructed, in a leftover trash box, that was also soaked from the water spilling. Just awful awful product and customer service all the way around. I can't believe these people are trying to charge money for this. I could have went to Trader Joe's and made my own arrangement with healthy flowers for about $15! Then they greedily refuse a refund or to fix this? Unreal! You all just lost a good customer from the start!!! read more

Thanks to Yelp, I was able to easily find this very professional studio, located on the first floor of a historic apartment/hotel building. Once I told the very helpful employee I needed flowers for a first date, she asked about my budget, and said $30. Then she took the time to really build a beautiful bouquet and wrap it up. We chatted about flowers and the lost art of giving flowers. We worked with Beth (while based in NYC) for our September 1, 2013 wedding at The Drake, and we were THRILLED with the outcome! My husband and I only were able to come to the store once for the mock up session, but regardless of the short visit, Beth understood our vision and nailed it! For example, we wanted low and high centerpieces in collections of flowers, and I wanted succulents in my bouquets, and no flowers but rather herbs for the boutonnieres, and she pulled it off! Have to say I am very disappointed. Passed up the budget florists in an attempt to select something elegant from a local business. When my sister sent me a picture of what she received I was pretty crestfallen. When I called the owner to express my disappointment she barked at me that I got more than what I paid for. That she didn't have the flowers on hand and she did what she could with the orange flowers she had. Honestly, the result was pretty lame, the customer service was awful (not even an attempt to be polite or salvage my business). Won't be ordering from them again. read more

My boyfriend and I came here not for flowers but for the soda fountain, which was charming and the perfect mid-day stop (finding parking is a challenge, though; try Bryn Mawr on the west side of Sheridan). They make all sorts of concoctions, including the old-fashioned phosphates, which I had to partake of, as well as shakes, malts, and of course plain-old ice cream. My cherry phosphate was refreshing, fun and not something you get everywhere. I also tried a single scoop of their strawberry cheesecake ice cream, which was tasty, but the drink was definitely the winner. My bf got their mint chocolate ice cream whirled into a shake; it was rather murky in color (well, light green + chocolate), but was deeelicious, so as long as you don't mind a swampy-looking shake I recommend it highly. Service was leisurely (only one lady working the counter), but earnest -- and who's in a hurry? Pull up a seat, watch that industrial milkshake maker get to work, and let Anna Held take you to phosphate paradise. read more

Anna Held did the flowers for our wedding, and we were very satisfied! We needed a lot of direction, and Beth was a joy to work with and had a lot of really great suggestions. We had a more narrow palette since we stuck with a natural and green look, and everything was beautiful in the end. We also wanted her help with our guest favors (small, potted succulents). She was able to get us pots on the cheap, and recommended we find our own succulents since it would be more affordable than going through her suppliers. Very professional of her! We were really happy to hear that she would not only produce all of our floral arrangements, but she also took care of other details such as dropping off our boutonnieres, setting up our card box and gift table, and creating signs for our guest (for directions). We worked with Beth, who successfully made our wedding day beautiful. I came into our first meeting not knowing exactly what my vision was, and after talking things through with Beth, she helped everything come together. I ended up doing a mix of flowers and an abundance of candles in her beautiful votives to help with my budget. For a fee, they delivered and set up everything, and for a smaller fee they even came back at the end of the night to pick up all of the rented items - so so worth it in my book. I received a flower delivery from them on my birthday, which was a nice surprise. I happened to be out for the day, the sender didn't know I wouldn't be home to accept the delivery. I got a call from the owner asking if I knew of anyone that could take the delivery on my behalf. I called back 30 minutes later asking them to contact my neighbor, and even though the delivery person was on route to drop off flowers for a wedding, they were able to stop by my house again near 6pm on a Saturday to leave my delivery with my awesome neighbors. If I get a choice of where my flowers come from, this is the place! They have wonderful stock, a great space, fantastic displays, and incredibly helpful staff. The staff is really the key- let me tell you why.. One of my friends got mad at her florist 2 weeks before the wedding and fired her... you can imagine the stress this caused afterward. I worked at a flower shop in high school- quite a few years ago!- and offered to help my friend- who was pretty worried about what was going to happen. I took over the bridal party flowers as well as the bridal bouquet. I then walked down to Anna Held, and talked with them about the situation. They helped me pick flowers that would travel well (the wedding was in MI). They also spoke with me, and designed an absolutely outstanding bridal bouquet for my friend (my new wedding present for her). The staff worked with me, talked me through to make sure I was confident with how I was going to arrange things, and ordered flowers within my budget. I could not believe it!! I rarely have use for an upscale florist...I mean, I wish I could justify fresh cut flowers to adorn my cascading home every day, but alas...not in the cards ;) Luckily, I needed some decorative corsages for the Yelp Prom...I checked Yelp, found one fairly close to me and called to order. Service was fantastic. I picked up at noon on the day of the event, and things were ready to go. They have a great little shop, and I was surprised they have lunch specials, fountain and other little gift items. Edgewater Beach is cool, see! Minus a star for the price, as one of the bouttinieres was quite tiny and the corsages were $25 a pop. The corsages however, were beautiful. I needed a replacement for my holiday wreath that I put on my front door. I thought a bundle of lavender would do the trick so I contacted several florists in Chicago. Anna Held Floral Studio responded via Facebook but did not have any in stock at the time. They suggested that I come in to look at their selection of eucalyptus and other scented arrangements. I purchased a bundle of spiral eucalyptus. One week later I received a call and an a message through Facebook from this flower shop notifying me that lavender have arrived. I picked them up and they've replaced my eucalyptus. They smell wonderful. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. When I visited the first time and mentioned "eucalyptus", they immediately knew me and escorted me to them. Same with the lavender. I haven't needed flowers or plants for myself and other occasions but I know where to go. Their store has beautiful blooms and they are happy to order anything for you. read more

Not just a flower shop! They serve the best apple pie. This apple pie is right up there with Hoosier Mama and Bennison's. Wonderful service - the ladies here couldn't be nicer and this is a great place to stop for coffee or a sandwich. Great prices for the value. It's really adorable inside here, like you stumbled back in time and there are cute tables and a soda fountain counter you can sit at. Some businesses can not be shackled with a word like "florist." How about "Anna Held Sandwich Shoppe" or "Anna Held Ice Cream Parlour"? "Anna Held Gift Shoppe?" Walk into Anna Held (in the Edgewater Beach Apartments, aka 'the pink building') and you walk back in time. Custom wooden cabinetry across the long wall and a marble lunch counter lines the other long wall. And everywhere there are flowers. The cafe has three small round tables, and a short square table for children, filled with story books and art supplies. If you are looking for a nice sandwich, panini, home made soup, or an ice cream dessert, this is a lovely place to escape, or a nice place to have a one-on-one conversation with your grandma, aunty, or your friend whose tastes run towards the "adorable." On the other hand, this would be a terrible place to type up a legal brief while making deals on your cell phone. The food is literally home made. The soup is made off-site and warmed up on their little stove. All of the sandwich ingredients might have come from the same grocery store you shop at. This place deserves five stars because it excels at what it is: it's the best darn florist, sandwich, ice cream, gift shop in Chicago. read more
