This review is a LONG time coming. I had an old crown that kept breaking, because I'd had a root canal and it was compromised. Like most people, I'd had many crowns over the years, and my bite was off. I wish I'd just replaced the one crown, and left it at that. But I went to her for a total mouth reconstruction. A friend who had gone there recommended her.
Dr Wei said I should get braces first, an excruciating 18 month process. I have a pretty extreme overbite. She said the braces would 'open my bite'. I never really understood what that means, but I honestly didn't notice much of a difference after the braces. She also talked me into a partial mouth reconstruction, said she'd do 'bonding' on the front teeth to preserve the enamel, without explaining that bonding is_very_ temporary, or that it was considered cosmetic, not covered by insurance, and that it would need to be redone every 2-3 years, for about $7k each time, which is *way* more money over time than just getting crowns or porcelain veneers. The bonding got stuck to some hard candy, and ripped off a chunk of my weaker, more brittle enamel, but she told me that it didn't happen.
She said at the beginning, if I kept breaking my temporary crowns, then the bite was off, but she totally went back on that. She changed my temporary crowns to shorter ones without even discussing it with me. She told me I couldn't have taller crowns, that my mouth wouldn't allow for it, even tho we never did a 6-month trial with a splint, as she did with my friend. But when I went back, 6 months after she finished my teeth, and asked for a mouthguard, I knew instantly that I was right. I had PLENTY of room in my mouth for taller teeth.
I missed my one opportunity to have the bite I wanted, the bite I remembered having as a young person. She talked about 'turning back the clock', but all she did was give me 16 crowns at once. Now, the only time my jaw feels like its in the right position, is when I wear my mouthguard. Despite being very gentle and kind, she gaslit me- a lot. She made all my crowns too short, and she didn't fix my bite issues. So it was a giant waste of time and money.
I hate my teeth, I hate my bite, and I've hated my smile from the moment she did the final cement. She actively talked me out of what I knew was right, and I didn't get the results I wanted. All of this was just before, and during the pandemic, so I was stressed out, and felt rushed to make these decisions. I kept going for cleanings for about a year, but I felt super awkward around her, because I was so angry. But I was still trying to be polite.
The final straw was when I missed an appointment for a cleaning. Maybe it was after her front desk person left. I never got a bill; not a VM, not an email, not a letter, but she threatened to take me to collections over $125, after I'd paid her close to $30k. I honestly wish I'd never met her. Since all my front teeth are all yellow, chipped and broken, I'm trying to find another prostadontist to finish the job, and make me some veneers. But it doesn't really fix the problem, and I don't have another $40k to throw at it, so I have to wait another 20+ years for dentures to try again. Altogether a traumatic experience, do not recommend. read more
