Ankeny Dental UNProfessionals,…read more After a regular dental cleaning, the hygienist normally schedules your next appointment in 6 months. Well, mine scheduled it earlier that 6 months so when I got my next cleaning I was sent a bill because Insurance would not pay due to the office's scheduling mistake. I called the office to explain their mistake in scheduling and I was told that I needed to know what my Benefits were and it was my responsibility. In time, I was told that this would go to "collections" and the office would not even split their mistake with me 50/50. Now I don't know about you but I trust that my dentist/hygienist will schedule me for a 6 month cleaning or if a mistake is made, that they own their mistake. (I have since found a new dentist and I explained this scenario to the new dentist and they said they would have "written it off" because of the mistake that was made). I prefer to go where staff are Professional...they now are my new dentists. The dentists are great but the BILLING dept and manager are very unprofessional. I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with these staff members. Dr. Huston is and always will be a good friend but I think the Practices' choice for billing staff needs to be changed. Has anyone else had to deal with this billing staff? Post it here because I guarantee there are more of you out there. Adios UNprofessional Billing Staff

I really appreciated the professionalism and modern facilities. Instead of just being told I…read moreneeded a crown, they used some high tech machine to show me my tooth and it's condition. I had never had a crown before and was very apprehensive, but Dr. Huston was very thorough and explained why the crown would help keep that tooth as well as protect the other tooth. It was a very easy procedure- virtually painless. I received a temporary crown and then went back and received a permanent one. Now they have one day crowns for a permanent one which will be even better because they have their own new machine. I appreciate going to a dental office that stays current with the newest technology to help patients. Karen

I attempted to schedule an appointment for small cavity filing but they want half to full payment before they could even schedule appointment. I even offered to pay the day of the procedure, even before insurance claim had been filed. They would not schedule without money deposited first. I guess we have to pay for fancy office and their bragging ability about what they give back to the Altoona community. Not impressed and this is while half of my family has chosen to dentist elsewhere.

When I arrived for my appointment, they told me that in order to get the whitening, I HAD to get a routine exam, which my insurance would not pay for since within 6 month window. They said they would allow me to use it in 4 months in conjunction with a comprehensive exam, but they don't take my insurance so I would have to pay out of pocket. Complete waste of time, and they had several opportunities to tell me, since it was NOT in the small print. Bait and switch!

40 years old and every dental appointment through my mid 30s I was told no cavities and that my…read moreteeth were super clean! Then a few years ago I went in for a cleaning and the doctor berated me for my vegan diet, told me to come back in a couple weeks because for evaluation of a potential root canal something he should've known that day. He guilted me and made me very scared. I decided to do research and had read on healing cavities naturally, and gave it all I had to attempt to remineralize myself. Then in the past week I had an abscess start on one tooth and another tooth chip. My perfect teeth down the drain. I was emotional. I thought for sure I was going to need to have dentures. I'm still single and never married, so my possibility of finding a man who would accept my dentures was going to be out the door. I have had one skeleton in the closet that no one other than me knew about. My teeth look beautifully white when I smile, but inside my mouth they have been more than an embarrassing mess. I was praying and praying the Lord would heal them so that nobody would ever have to see how disgusting they were. So when I arrived and learned that I only needed a root canal and essentially a partial prosthetic tooth my fears of dentures were resolved. But a root canal? Doesn't that mean they pull my tooth from the root and that will cause some major pain? Dr. Johnson explained exactly what it was to me but I knew it was going to require an anesthetic. The last time I had one of those shots I couldn't help but let out a scream. Medicine has changed so much that there are now topical numbing agents that make it so you barely feel the needle. At the end of the day there was no pain. I'm passing through Iowa on my way home from several months of travel. Dr. Johnson made every accommodation possible to get me moving along. He didn't judge my chosen vegan and alternative natural lifestyle and was willing to work with me on other options. I think that's what we all want. Someone who gives us their professional opinion then gives us the freedom to make our own decision. Those decisions may turn into poor choices but at least all of the information was laid out on the table. Thanks to Dr. Johnson there is hope for me! I might not have to die all alone after all!

Don't these places usually have more than one service provider? Then, after that person finally got seen, it seemed to take forever for ME to get seen. Meanwhile, five more people walked in after me. Hope it didn't take forever for the five more people. But, once I got seen, the Physicians Assistant who saw me was quick AND thorough. I had an ear problem. Got it diagnosed quickly. The Physicians Assistant was very friendly and nice. She also was able to "shoot" a prescription to Wal-Mart and I was able to get it. One thing I was surprised at, they didn't require you to fill out a 10 page thingie on health history. Ok, whatever. They were also ok with me not providing my SS number for my claims, it's not required. The seemingly long wait time irked me when there was only ONE other person at the time I went in, but I would go here again if needed.
