40 years old and every dental appointment through my mid 30s I was told no cavities and that my teeth were super clean! Then a few years ago I went in for a cleaning and the doctor berated me for my vegan diet, told me to come back in a couple weeks because for evaluation of a potential root canal something he should've known that day. He guilted me and made me very scared. I decided to do research and had read on healing cavities naturally, and gave it all I had to attempt to remineralize myself. Then in the past week I had an abscess start on one tooth and another tooth chip. My perfect teeth down the drain. I was emotional. I thought for sure I was going to need to have dentures. I'm still single and never married, so my possibility of finding a man who would accept my dentures was going to be out the door. I have had one skeleton in the closet that no one other than me knew about. My teeth look beautifully white when I smile, but inside my mouth they have been more than an embarrassing mess. I was praying and praying the Lord would heal them so that nobody would ever have to see how disgusting they were. So when I arrived and learned that I only needed a root canal and essentially a partial prosthetic tooth my fears of dentures were resolved. But a root canal? Doesn't that mean they pull my tooth from the root and that will cause some major pain? Dr. Johnson explained exactly what it was to me but I knew it was going to require an anesthetic. The last time I had one of those shots I couldn't help but let out a scream. Medicine has changed so much that there are now topical numbing agents that make it so you barely feel the needle. At the end of the day there was no pain. I'm passing through Iowa on my way home from several months of travel. Dr. Johnson made every accommodation possible to get me moving along. He didn't judge my chosen vegan and alternative natural lifestyle and was willing to work with me on other options. I think that's what we all want. Someone who gives us their professional opinion then gives us the freedom to make our own decision. Those decisions may turn into poor choices but at least all of the information was laid out on the table. Thanks to Dr. Johnson there is hope for me! They charged me $45 for a missed appointment. They said it was for sanitizing the room. $45? I can see maybe $5. Wouldn't me missing my appointment save them $45 from having to do it for the next patient anyway? The oral hygenist was good, but I got a different dentist each time. The billing was alyways off so it just seemed very unorganized. And the $45 is just annoying. I will not be going back. read more

I was very impressed on my first visit to get Denture implants. Dr Chad Johnson has the most up to date equipment...amazing new technology!! The staff is so friendly...they make you feel like they have known you for years...very helpful in explaining every detail of the tooth extraction process and dental implants. You can see the x-rays on a screen that is placed right in front of you in the dental chair. Dr Chad Johnson is amazing...he explains each step of the process and I was able to see his latest equipment in action...very interesting to see and learn about. He is so friendly and outgoing. Dr. Johnson is the best! Got my wisdom teeth removed right in the office and also had invisalign done and they were both much better compared to my friends experiences who went elsewhere. What a gifted and generous dentist! I ended up here while searching for someone experienced to perform my frenectomy, and feel lucky to have found Dr J who is so passionate, skilled and patient. He and his staff really do care about more than the mouth they have their hands in. :) It has made the process easier to know the support doesn't end when you walk out. My kids loved this new dentist office with Dr. Jonathan Karch in Pleasant Hill. However, I am feeling really upset about the billing for their first visit on January 4, 2018. I received several ads in the mail where it stated, "New patients offer: $99.00 for initial visit, cleaning etc..." I called and said I want the $99.00 special for my two kids and one x-ray (to get wisdom teeth out). I gave them my insurance information. They called me back a few times about my dental insurance. I wrote down on a piece of paper that I wanted the sheet of paper where I wrote: $99.00 special and panoramic x-ray for wisdom teeth and the boys gave them the ad with the $99.00 special listed on it. I have a $2,000 limit per year on my dental insurance. I wanted to use the majority of this to get my boys wisdom teeth out. It costs about 1,700 to get wisdom teeth out. I get a bill from Delta Dental for charges for $857.00 for each son. I call the office and spoke with Sally and she stated, you can't get the 99.00 special if you have insurance. I'm like, no one ever stated that to me. I called several times, expressing this is what I wanted and I wrote it down. The kids gave the paper of what I wanted performed for them. Now I can't use my dental insurance to get their wisdom teeth out because $857.00 was submitted to Delta Dental. I feel like I was mislead. I looked the ad over and it did not say anything about "If you have insurance, you can't use this special". It might have in very small print, but again, my boys gave the ad to the girl at the front desk at the dentist. I don't have this ad any longer. This has never happened to me before. I really feel like I was taken advantage off. I have a call into the billing person, Sally and she is going to speak with the office manager. I don't know how this is going to get resolved. The boys really like the office and the dentists, but the billing issue has me extremely upset. I am hoping the dentists will work with me on the billing to get their wisdom teeth out. I don't know how else to get the bill fixed with Delta Dental. Again - this has never happened to me before. I told them what the boys were coming in for and I verbally told them over the phone and I sent in a piece of paper with this written down. Why didn't anyone call me if this was going to be an issue?
