This is honestly the best doctor I have seen in the past few years. She really cares and gives her patients undivided attention. She actually listens, unlike many of the modern health care professionals who make you feel like a number going through a conveyor belt. She took my blood very quickly and painlessly and got the tests back the following day. I was so glad to hear that my health was perfect. Her staff is so kind and caring. Tonya is so loving and kind. She was able to fit me in for an emergency appointment and really showed a lot of care towards me. She even gave me a good exercise app and samples of vitamins to try to make sure that my health is optimal. Natasha was also very sweet and made sure I felt cared for. The office has a lot of wonderful books to read in the short wait. I really love the personal / boutique feeling of the office. Dr. Sikand is the BEST! I've been seeing her for over 20 years, and I couldn't love her more. She has held my hand through so much. She is kind, thorough, and calm. She listens. She treats me as a full person. As an example, after years of no one else being able figure things out, she quickly recognized that I had celiac (which was then confirmed by by tests). Went to her for my annual Pap smear. Was one of the most painful things I've experienced (I almost fainted). When I told her it hurt, she just told me to relax. I believe this is due to the fact that they only had a large speculum, which was way too large for me. Worse still, they were incredibly short staffed, so the dr. was the only one in the room (not at all normal). Also, the room did not feel especially sanitary. Will NOT be returning. read more

The receptionist was so incredibly unprofessional, she couldn't even add my insurance billing address to her computer and because of her incompetence I waited an hour and couldn't even see the doctor in the end, she didn't even give me an option to pay out of pocket which I would have been fine doing and settling with my Insurance company later . She also asked personal information like the reason for my visit, out loud with other patients in the waiting room, and did the same for another patient while I was waiting. I don't understand how a doctor can allow such behavior. Even when my insurance called them to settle the issue and help them enter the billing address (which they should have known how to do on their own as it's on my insurance card), they didn't even bother calling back to apologize and rescheule, as it was their incompetence that was the issue, nothing from my end. read more

My former GYN retired during covid. He was amazing and sent out a letter recommending Dr. Sikand. So I've been seeing her for about a year and a half now. The office looks run down, the office staff is just ok and my experience seeing Dr. Sikand thus far has me already looking for a new GYN. She's a perfectly nice enough person but she is reactive instead of proactive. I felt like I had to bring up ideas/questions (and sometimes as the patient you're not even sure what questions to ask) instead of her offering advice or suggestions about several issues I was experiencing. It felt as if she hasn't kept up or is too distracted or tired to bother. And I've never felt like there has been good follow up. Recently I called her about lowering a dosage of a medication I was on because I felt I was having an adverse reaction and she responded just by saying "ok, this would be the time we'd be lowering the dosage anyway," with no other explanation or insight; and I felt like she never would've actually called to tell me if I hadn't brought it up first. She also said to me once "we'll you know the risks of going on this medication," and I thought to myself, how would I know the risks?, as I don't think she ever actually went over the risks with me. She's not a great communicator. In short I've been very underwhelmed by my experience with her practice. I just don't feel like I'm in great hands. read more

I made an appointment with Dr. Sikand because I had an acute issue/concern that I wanted a doctor's opinion on (I can be a bit of a hypochondriac and have seen many, many gynecologists thanks to some reckless behavior in my 20s and taking a better safe than sorry approach even if it's after the fact lol). I was very unimpressed with the office environment and for starters had sanitation concerns. I had an intake with a nurse in one room and then was moved to another to see the doctor. My visit lasted a whole 5 minutes (with the doc) and I was asked what my personal thoughts were on my diagnosis. She struggled to read the room and I'm sorry, but that's what I'm paying a DOCTOR for, if I was satisfied with what I thought then I would be at my house instead of in this cringey office. To settle matters, no test was taken (I had a similar experience many years ago and was a Kaiser member at the time and they recommended/took a test which was the whole reason I wanted to see a doc in the first place). I just saw my EOB and the visit cost $300, which is such a waste. I noticed another reviewer had suggested another gyn, I'll be trying her as this doc was such a disappointment. read more

I saw Dr. Sikand for three years, and it was a real mixed bag. First I must say that she's very competent. She's also very, very conservative. I imagine that if I were married and pregnant or desperately trying to get pregnant, I would probably like her a lot and still be a patient of hers. However, as a young lady with an intense fear of conception, Dr. Sikand and I didn't really mesh. She's definitely one of those ob-gyns who are in it for the babies. Pros: She generally knows what she's doing. She's into alternative medicine, if you like that kind of thing. Her front desk staff is good and I LOVED her nurses. She never made me feel rushed, and she's thorough with bloodwork. Cons: At our first appointment (I was 21 at the time, fyi) she asked me how long I'd been married. Ahem. I believe my response was a derisive scoff, and it went downhill from there. Prepare to be met with a judgmental stare if you say 'yes' when she asks if you want any STD panels done at your yearly check-up. If you're young and single and looking for a sex-positive-feminist kind of gynecologist, this isn't the place for you. Also, in our conversations, I didn't feel confident that she had been keeping up with recent research, especially when it came to birth control. I've finally found someone who is a much better fit, and I couldn't be happier. read more

Really happy with my experience here. Never had an appointment with a GYN where it began with a medical interview -- in her OFFICE. We chatted about basic medical history and specific issues for at least 15 minutes before moving into the exam room and beginning the exam. I was there for a basic annual female exam. She was quick and efficient (always appreciated) and addressed all of my questions with patience and obvious knowledge. She also did all my blood work and delivered the results to me within two weeks. Blood work fees were included in the cost - no sneaky lab bills sent to you later. They do offer a self-pay discount toward the office visit if you ask for it, for those without insurance. And she also offered to supply me with free birth control samples -- saving me upwards of $70 a month out-of-pocket. Definitely well priced -- an initial exam is more because of all the family medical history Dr. Sikand covers with you, but after that your regular annual exam is roughly $175, and visits to see her for Internist related issues are a mere $75. Terry, the receptionist, is great and always gets back to you on any follow up questions. She and Monica, the nurse, complete the office staff and together handle scheduling easily and with a friendliness not usual to many DC area medical offices I've been in recently. Dr. Sikand also has an office in VA, so be aware she only practices in this DC location on certain weekdays. She is board certified in both OB-GYN and Internal Med, to my understanding, thus making her a great choice for the female who likes to see one doctor for most medical concerns. read more

She's aggressive, judgmental, and self-righteous. I completely agree with other comments here saying that she's conservative and will give you a look of unapproval if you are otherwise. My story: I wanted to try the Mirena IUD. She did not do a pap smear, which is required before inserting one. She trivialized any side effects and said it acts "locally only", when it is certainly absorbed systemically throughout the body and I felt multiple side effects, which made me want to remove it, only to find out that the strings are not seen because they either were cut too short by dr.sikand or they fell out. Her insertion of the IUD was the most painful thing I experienced in my entire life, and her response was that I'm being a baby to a procedure where I almost fainted in her hands! I was unable to drive myself back home and waited in the street crying for my mother to pick me up and went to pick up my car a couple of days later when the pain went away. She completely failed to look out for the safety of her patient here. When I went back to her for a second sonogram after learning that the string is missing, her technician was extremely aggressive too, which she wasn't the first time but it seems I have created "extra work" for them in the office. dr.sikand's response was unapologetic and dismissive when I informed her of the missing string. I am now at Johns Hopkins and my doctor is scheduling me for a hysteroscopy to remove the IUD. When I called to notify her of the consequences, she didn't apologize or sound like she regrets hearing about any of these complications. I can deal with judgmental, but Dr. sikand being so aggressive and self-righteous is just not right especially when you deal with such sensitive issues. read more

Dr. Sikand is wonderful. After a terrible experience at one of the crowded, baby-factory, multiple doctor practices in DC, I found Dr. Sikand's one woman practice and never looked back. Like other reviewers said, she actually takes the time to review your medical history and answer questions at your first appointment. I appreciate that this is done in her office, and not while you're half naked on a table. For a doctor, she is pretty prompt. I have never had to wait more than 20 minutes or so for my scheduled appointment. I had to wait over an hour at the first practice I tried in DC. read more

Dr. Sikand is excellent. She works out of a very small office about a 5 or 10 minute walk from Foggy Bottom metro. Everyone who works at the practice is very nice and professional, and I've had nothing but positive experiences there. Dr. Sikand is a great doctor; however, her office staff is disorganized. I recently needed my medical records sent from her office so I could see a specialist. It took four days, three phone calls, and a string of emails to get my records for a time-sensitive appointment. This kind of thing from a medical office is unacceptable. It doesn't matter how good a doctor is -- if staff can't perform their job functions, you aren't getting complete medical care. Go elsewhere so you don't have to deal with this hassle. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Sikand's since for over 5 years. My previous experiences with her were ok, unlike other reviewers here, I can not say she was particularly caring or that she went above and beyond to take care of my needs. I went to her because she was recommended by a trusted friend. I had not been to her office for about 2 years before my visit last year and this time I had different insurance than I did in previous visits. Before my appointment, I called the office and spoke to Tanya, I gave her my new insurance details, she checked them and told me that their office was in my insurance's network. I came in for my first appointment, and I had to sit and wait for about 20 minutes without an explanation as Dr. Sikand took a meeting with what I assume are pharmaceutical representatives. When it was time for my appointment, she was unprepared and did not remember much of my medical history with her, nor the details of the surgical procedure I had with her. My appointment with her was rushed and lasted less than 10 minutes. I came in about 2 weeks later for an ultrasound, during that appointment I only saw Dr. Sikand in the hall way, she did not meet with me to talk to me and brief me on the results from the ultrasound which showed that the problem I had come in with exists. As I write, this is 5 months after my appointment and she has not discussed the results of my appointment with me nor posted anything about them on my portal. 4 months after my visits, I am now receiving bills for my visits, it turns out Tanya was wrong, my insurance does not cover any of the visits. When I call to speak to Tanya, she is rude and defensive. Today I received a call from Sue in the Arlington, VA office about another bill related to the visit that they plan to send to me. She was condescending and said it was my duty to check with my insurance whether or not their office takes my insurance information and assures me that they are in network. What is the point of giving them my insurance before my visit if that's the case? Why would Tanya check my insurance and tell me they are covered? Or is Sue insinuating that what they say is not to be trusted? During my visit, I was asked several times to do blood work and tests that are not related to the issue I went in for, guess what? They got to bill more for those tests. All they care about is making money, and they do not care about their patients. I believe Tanya knew that my insurance was not in network but they had me come in knowing that I would not have much choice about paying the bills. Well, Dr. Sikand and her crew have lost a patient, this will be my last visit at with her. read more

I'm with the other reviewer who wished they could give less than one star. I went to her for basic gyn care. She is a careless, poor listener who overlooked the scans that showed I had a growing tumor suggesting it was "scar tissue" by her sonographer who drops in. That was probably problem number 1. She monitored this growth since 2011 and never reviewed the reports with me which showed the tumor as steadily growing and the last two years no reports were prepared. Disgraceful! I suggested a hysterectomy on more than one occasion only to be met with "no you dont want that" without explanation. She is opinionated but not a good listener and I found the Pap smears excessively painful. Told me to just stay on the pill which clearly was not reducing the tumor or controlling the pain and other symptoms. Bottom line: Stay away! This doctor is more interested in catching babies than gyn and I'm not sure how good she is with that. Go see Dr Melancom instead! She literally saved my life. read more

If I could give this woman a negative star I would. Her carelessness led to my accidental pregnancy. I had terrible cramps from my IUD, which had been in for a year. without asking any questions she insisted on removal. Well since I'm not the doctor I didn't think twice about it and welcomed the relief from the cramping. A few weeks later I found out I was pregnant and date of conception was the day she took out the IUD. Here is the catch, I had intercourse before she took it out, but she never asked me about it, and since I'm not the doctor I didn't know. She went on a vacation and when I tried calling her receptionist was extremely rude. When I finally saw the doctor she lied about how far along I was trying to cover her tracks and tried blaming me for not using contraception after the IUD was removed. Sadly for her, the ultra sound proved the date of conception. She is more interested in debating politics than dong her job. Her DC office is rude and negligible at best . Find a different doctor. She lacks focus, and that's not what anyone wants from a doctor. read more

The worst experience of my life: I got my first pap smear done w/ Dr. Sikand. I was a virgin at the time and she didn't give me any type of explanation as to what to expect. She just inserted the instrument really hard. I didn't know it at the time but I had a condition that made penetration painful. I was literally SCREAMING because everytime she inserted it, my muscles would close up and it would hurt terribly. She just told me to relax...??? I left the office bleeding, terrified, confused. I was traumatized for days, I couldn't get over what happened. And I know my condition wasn't her fault, but the problem is...she had no idea what it was. As an experienced doctor she should've known and should've basically diagnosed me. Instead I went years not knowing what was wrong with me. I have since mailed her information on it so she knows what it is and to treat the next patient (ahem, victim) better. Also, her receptionist is rude. When I found I was pregnant shortly after arriving in DC, I had to find an OB-GYN. I wanted to avoid the big multi-partner practices, and got exactly what I was looking for with Dr. Sikand: a small, personalized friendly practice. Dr. Sikand is efficient, personable, very accomodating and listened to me; I felt very well cared for during the pregnancy, baring one off-day where she was less friendly and one occasion where I had to wait for 40 mins. Also, I had had a very bad experience in the delivery of my first child, and Dr. Sikand went out of her way to assure me that the same wouldnt happen again, and that she would make sure she was personally at the delivery. And she was, and although at one point things got a little hairy, she was reassuring, and calm and managed the situation very well, without need for the interventions I wanted to avoid. Her staff are super helpful and kind; I even took my toddler in with me for many of my appointments and the nurses and receptionist didnt mind/ tried to help me manage keeping the toddler occupied while being examined. They always remembered who I am and my history. read more

I've only seen Dr. Sikand a few OB appointments before I decided to switch to another practice, specifically a midwives practice in Arlington. At Dr. Sikand's office, the wait times are long, she rushes and talks over you. She has two practices in which she is the only provider which is nice but explains why she is overbooked and has patients waiting. I just didn't feel a connection with her and didn't feel she cared about my birthing plan. read more

She has been my on/gyn for over 10 years and, most recently, provided care for me during a challenging pregnancy and delivered a healthy and happy baby girl. Throughout the process, my family and I were often witnesses to her extensive knowledge and expertise. I am also always very happy with her attentive care and support, and the ability to reach her and count on her at any time, if needed. While Doctor Sikand has an office in Foggy Bottom, she delivers at Inova Fairfax, which has to be the best hospital in the country. Dr. Sikand has known me for over five years. She is compassionate and highly competent. She does not complicate matters keeping explanations simple. Although I know she is well versed in most complicated issues, I like her quiet comprehension of medical matters while providing the proper care. Like all other doctors I know, patient privacy is of clear concern to her. Her staff also have mentioned patient advocacy as being an important concern in her office. Her office is a reflection of her personality, caring, efficient, loving, and tolerant of all matters no matter how stressful. For some reason, I feel patients do come first in her office. I am never made to feel I am receiving a medical lecture although she can be as detail oriented as you want her to be. Occasionally, I have discussed circumstances that only a person of her education would know. I am very, very surprised at how much she has assisted others in high risk situations. But I get the feeling that a normal pregancy is enjoys the most. I would reccomend to her that she would not feel uncomfortable in the world of her high risk collegues especially in the hospital OR. As a patient, this experience gives me much comfort and confidence. In the shortcomings side, if one is looking to receive medical lectures in her office, it will be hard to find one. She is highly cognizant that patients recieve all the information that is pertinent toward their better health. Regardless, the human body is complicated and answers are difficult to find for some ailments. I have noticed also that Dr. Sikand tends to be conservative in offering medications. Given some of the recent pharmacuetical findings, her caution is most appreciated. She is most concerned about the long term health of her patients and some of the new drugs tend not to have long term studies hence true outcomes not being known. Her true experience seems to be in high risk pregnancies and surgical procedures. I also knew her while she was in Boston. She was very highly regarded among patients and collegues. Of course, all of her staff are outstanding in all matters, insurance or otherwise. I would place Dr. Sikand in the outstanding category with other outstanding OBs in the region. My healh is not a competition nor is my child's health. We are truely lucky to have such a good group of women's physicians in the area. Five stars to all. read more

I have been with Dr. Sikand for +- 6 yrs. I am a 38 yr old Single Woman, with no Children, at this time. I have read a few of the comments below and would like to add the perspective of my experience with Dr. Sikand and her front office Manager, Terri! Prior to Dr. Sikand, I was with my previous OBGYN for more than 10yrs and had developed quite a personal relationship with Her. Upon her retirement, from private practice, I was quite skeptical and insecure about finding another great OBGYN, whom would express the same care, personal interest, professional knowledge/expertise and gentle bedside manner! Thanks to, good Karma and a little help from the Universe, my path was aligned with Dr. Sikand. What I have found in Dr. Sikand is a doctor whom, uses her vast expert knowledge/education to make a mental, physical, emotional and spiritual investment in Her patients. She is in it with you for the Long haul!! Furthermore, Irrespective of any physical medical issue I encounter, I will not allow another Dr. to admit me into their care, or tend to me without that Dr.contacting Dr. Sikand and informing Her of the issue. I trust Dr. Sikand implicitly and always feel she has my best interest in mind. Dr. Sikand is a wonderful OGBYN and provides holistic care to Her Patients. Front Office Manager: Terri Front Office Managers/Support staff can often make or break the experience with the Doctor. She is knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate in greeting you into the office and helping to make your doctor visit a smooth one. When necessary Terri acts as a very helpful liaise to Dr.Sikand when contacting the Dr. outside of a scheduled appointment. I saw Dr. Sikand twice last year - once for a wellness check up and once for a sick visit. I scheduled my sick visit the Friday before a holiday weekend around 3pm. Earlier that day, the office called me and asked if I'd like to move my appointment up earlier. I said I couldn't because of work. Closer to the appointment, Dr Sikand herself called me and asked me to "come earlier or reschedule" because I was her last patient and she wanted to leave for vacation. I said I couldn't reschedule because I had a medical problem I needed her to look at and she said "if it's not that serious, can't you just reschedule?" I was absolutely appalled by her lack of empathy and harshness. It was hard enough for me to schedule a sick appointment and she diminished my problems because she wanted to go on vacation early. Once I got to the office that day, she was very cold and made several comments about how she had to wait for my appointment to leave the office... Horrible treatment of a patient and very traumatizing from my perspective. I immediately found another physician to go to after this incident. read more

I saw her for two IUIs and she is, if not the only, one of the only ob/gyns in the area who will perform an IUI with donor sperm without washing it a second time in her office. (The samples were from a cryobank that peforms the wash in their facility. Therefore, if a doctor performs a second wash you waste a lot of perfectly good, very expensive sperm). She and her office staff at both of her offices always treated my same sex spouse and I with the utmost respect. I have nothing but gratitude for her care and I would and have recommended her to many people. read more

I just moved to Georgia and had to post a review of Dr. Sikand, especially after seeing a couple really bad reviews. I have been a patient of Dr. Sikand for several years and have been very pleased. At my first visit she took me into her office and reviewed all past medical history, including family history. When I came to her I thought I may have PCOS, but she did multiple testing and everything came back negative. I have never had a rough exam and she has never left me on the table like some of the previous reviews experienced. A couple years ago when I was having some personal OB/GYN issues, she was very attentive and called me whenever I left her messages. She is usually very quiet and maybe that's why some people felt she was unfriendly. read more

I've gone to several gynos before Dr Sikand and had some bad experiences. I've opened up to her about my personal life and she was non-judgmental. This is really important to me as a Gyno is not like other doctors and needs to be unbiased to a variety of lifestyle choices. I visited Dr. Sikand's office at the recommendation of a colleague. She was pleasant and kind at the consultation. I've seen a few GYN's before and she was the first to bring me in to her office for a consult before the actual exams which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, I ultimately regretted going to her office. First - the staff is decent and friendly to an extent. The MA in particular I thought could have but in a bit more of an effort in acting like she somewhat enjoyed her job. But more importantly, I felt that Dr. Sikand was not able to diagnose my issue. She basically was not able to answer my questions about my condition at all - she had no answer and did not seem to care that she didn't have an answer. I felt it was just a waste of time and I should have gone to a different clinic. read more
