I adopted a 9 WEEK OLD puppy on Feb 1 and she passed away on March 13th. the shelter gave me 2 antibiotics and told me it was just for nasal discharge. Within a week of having her, I had to take her to the animal hospital ER because she started to have labored breathing after that. She had several other visits and they did x-rays and her lungs had shadowing. She was so sick and it was so hard to see. I tried calling the shelter about this and they gave me the run around and were very rude. This not only cost me money but it was so hard on me and my family to watch her suffering and pass away.

This place is simply a shit show. We adopted a kitten here, she was too young at the time to be spayed. We brought her back once she was 2lbs for the procedure. When we picked her up I noticed immediately all her whiskers were gone. I called the shelter to be transferred around 3 times. All the staff laughed it off, denying that this would ever happen. Now why would I ever make that up? I spoke to the shelter manager, Suzy. She was Flat out rude and conducted herself in an unprofessional manner. As I expressed my concern for this completely unnecessary action that had taken place she continuously LAUGHED. I didn't even get an apology. How could a kitten do this to themself? All coincidentally cut down to the same length. Ridiculous. Such a horrible thing to do to an animal... no accountability or sympathy. As a pet owner I'd like to be informed of these things, given a reason as to why it happened. Not gas light and treated like a joke.

I was very upset being told several things about showing up and what to expect. Called to get on the list for a doberman puppy only to find out I wasnt. The managers were excellent and got me in to see the puppy. I did adopt her. Although they had an outbreak of distemper my pup was not affected. She is now with me and her new family and very happy! Didnt start out well but the manager took care of us!

Drove here from Las Vegas after hearing that the shelter is overflowing with dogs who are likely to be euthanised for lack of a home and space to house them. We have multiple dogs and have worked with several rescues in Las Vegas and are also familiar with a number of shelters. I do think this place deserves a good review, but you have to understand how it works. First, the excellent. The staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly and helpful. They clearly care so much about the pets they are trying to save. It's hard to imagine how they must feel going into work every day, with so many people having to surrender their pets or bring in strays and knowing that dogs and cats are being euthanised because there are just too many. But somehow they remain outwardly positive. I interacted with three or four of their staff members, all were as helpful as they possibly could be. The guy who brought out the dogs to meet me had a very good sense of their personalities, even though they had only been there for three or four days, and I doubt he had the luxury of spending a lot of time with them. Not to mention, they clearly adore him, so he must be doing something right! His comments were very helpful. And they have no problem with you walking around, which some shelters no longer allow, giving you an opportunity to make a connection with a dog that you might otherwise have overlooked. That was certainly the case for me. Similarly, the adoption process is very simple. I adopted two dogs the adoption fee is minimal and they have a very efficient procedure for micro chipping, getting the dog spayed/neutered the next morning, and explaining how the pickup process works from the vets. It wasn't a perfect experience though. We had targeted dogs we saw as urgent on adoptapet, but all were already taken. Happy news from our perspective, but could have been frustrating for some. So check availability before you go if you want someone specific. Also, if the pet needs to be spayed/neutered, while they explain the $8 disposal fee and that the vet will offer "extras" at your option and cost (only the bare procedure is free), these should mostly be regarded as essentials (eg fluids, preventative antibiotics, post op medications) so expect to actually pay $250 or so total if the pup has not already been fixed. That's still very reasonable but if you are on a tight budget it might come as a shock when the vet's office calls you after you think you adopted a pup for $25 or so. If cost is an issue then ask for pets that do not require the operation. Finally this is a shelter not a rescue. So do not expect a sweet smelling, freshly groomed and socialised pet with a full character report. You take a gamble with any new pet (don't assume breeder or pet store puppies are guaranteed to be healthy or easy to train) so you need to be patient with a shelter pup because they have been through instability at minimum and potentially more especially if they were strays, so there will be an adjustment period. Getting a surrendered pet rather than a stray should give you more predictability and history if that's important to you. Just ask the staff. But we are delighted with our new additions (that came in as strays). A very stinky (can't bathe until 2 weeks after surgery) but gorgeous mini terrier (Peep) who it turns out already knows basic commands, is house trained, trusting, calm and frankly all round adorable. And a small German Shepherd mix (Katz) who was a terrified fear dog in the shelter but, while skittish, is already settling in after just 2 days and takes affection with no aggression whatsoever. Both are better behaved than some of our established dogs!

$25 adoptions! Microchipped and spayed or neutered, which is awesome unfortunately the Shelter said the kitten was 10 weeks old and 3lbs and litter trained. It was not. Pooped and pee all over the place. Once at the veterinarian to receive surgery we were told the kitten was only 4 weeks and weighs 1lbs .16oz We had to pay a bio hazard $8 and $25 for rescheduling. Not to mention all the extras the vet clinic was trying to add plus all the extra stuff i had to buy because of its age. Milk, bottles, etc. please do your best to research the animals best you can.

Daisy says thank you!

I had a very positive experience with the staff when I adopted my pup. Everyone I interacted with was patient and seemed to really care. There were some people in line at the office that I thought were rude and impatient but the staff stayed professional. I think that they seemed understaffed, the office trailer was hot and waiting in line took about an hour. I think that's more so as a result of being underfunded than from a lack of caring. Please keep up the good work and know that you are appreciated.

Me and my family came to adopt a puppy from here on Saturday May 31st and we seriously don't recommend i genuinely have never been more upset. We got a 9 week old puppy but when we got the puppy we quickly noticed our dog was hurt because when the worker passed her to us she started crying, he told us she was probably hurt from her spaying which had been done earlier that week on May 28. We took our puppy home and she was extremely bloated and was sneezing, coughing, and had mucus coming out of her nose which we figured would be kennel cough which is unfortunately common for dogs in shelters. However this was only the tip of the iceberg, our puppy was walking with a hunch and whenever we would try to pet her she would cry. We took our dog back to the shelter on Tuesday for her to get checked out for the kennel cough but the vet there said they couldn't do anything for it because they weren't completely sure what it was since they had just tested for parvo and it came back negative, we were also given medicine for her spay that she was SUPPOSED to be taking since we got her from the shelter but they never gave it to us, they also told us our dogs spay incision was infected which was odd because it looked completely fine and we got medicine for that as well. When we were leaving the shelter we noticed the puppy had an open wound on her lower back which was around an inch wide. We decided to take her to another vet the next day in fontana to test for kennel cough and to clean out her wound which looked pretty infected. The vet confirmed the kennel cough and said our dogs spay incision was not infected but her back was, they cleaned it out and gave us medication for both things. Later that day when we were cleaning her wound with the ointments we got at the vet, we realized our dog had another cut on her upper back in between her shoulder blades. We went to the Fontana Animal Hospital again the next day where they trimmed our dogs entire back fur, this revealed a big open wound that was extremely infected and had spread itself all over our dogs back. The vet told us our dogs back was completely dead, the skin on her back was grey and underneath it was just pus and meat. We were given the option to do surgery on our dog or to continue putting the ointments on her but surgery was going to be expensive so they said if we came back to the shelter they had to pay back the vet expenses because there was absolutely no way that nobody noticed our dog was hurt since she had been spayed and the dogs also get showered at the shelter. So we went on Thursday and the one shelter worker told us she would text us when we could bring our dog back to get checked out by their vet instead, she texted us not long after and said to come back today on Saturday at 8 pm and the vet was gonna do the procedure. When we got there today the place was completely closed down and nobody answered our calls or messages. Completely unacceptable especially since our dog was not able to eat or drink anything including her medicine she was given because we were told not to give her anything before her surgery. I will be back and i expect for them to not only do whatever my dog needs medically free of all charge but also pay for all the other vet bills from the different places. Best believe i will not let them get away with this.

Rosy
Debra M.

Last summer I lost my companion Val to an illness and I was heartbroken. I was so lost without her and looked on your website for another dog to fill my heart. There was Rosy. A little black puppy all of 3 months old. Airplane ears, cold wet nose, soulful eyes and adorable. Rosy has now become a dog and what a love she is. I cannot say enough about her and most of my days are filled with laughter and companionship. Thank you again for giving me a friend.

Mindy provided a very personable, warm and extremely responsive service, made every effort to respond to my inquiry on Adopt-A-Pet and approving my application as well as just answering my questions and chatting with me about my potential cat baby's personality traits and his background story. She responded to emails as late as 11PM on a weekend and her demeanor was always welcoming and reassuring, like an old, caring friend. Mindy's words and actions convey that she truly truly love all of her rescued cat babies and she only wants what's best for them and she works extremely hard to find them good homes. I was very sad that neither cat babies from her rescue matched the particular personality I was looking for (I was trying to fill this big hole in my heart with the tragic loss of a stray cat named Cookie I cared for) and I really wished that given all the hard work she and her daughter put into, I'd adopt either Teddy or Khabib. Despite these big, affectionate sweet boys were not the best match I was searching for, I don't think any less of them, I sincerely hope they will find their forever home they deserve and I cannot be more grateful for Mindy's time, patience and understanding she's extended me and my family. If I had more capacity for an additional cat baby in the future after finding THE ONE, Mindy and her rescue is the first place I'd check out. This group is nationwide.) I'm not sure how many actually review charitable non profit rescue groups, but I have to review this one to tell you what kind of work they do and how truly selfless they are (they even helped me with dog that wasn't from Harlee's Angels.) I was down to my last frenchie, outliving my once 5 pack of dogs... She was lonely, wondering where everyone was, why it was so quite and why she was so alone. It was time to consider her crossing that rainbow bridge. My dogs saved me. And here I am again needing to be saved. Enter Harlee's Angels Southern California Division. I was on a site called RescueMe.org and looking into rescuing an english bulldog mix that just really captured my attention. Not much was said about him that I couldn't already see in the pictures. He looked so sweet and innocent and YOUNG. But the scars on his face said otherwise. The story said "bait dog." Harlee's Angels are about rescuing, rehabilitating and adopting out dogs that no one else thinks worthy of help. And trust me they do MORE.. Please see their site. Harlee's Angels provides: "Rescues dogs in county animal shelters that would otherwise be euthanized. Each dog is placed in foster care, receives veterinary care, and sterilization. Foster care for dog surrendered by their owners who either can no longer provide for the pets or no longer wish to have them in their homes. Adoption of rescued dogs to qualified homes that have been properly screened and counseled by our adoption coordinators and foster parents to maintain the pet in the home for a lifetime. Training of leadership team members and volunteers in the areas of humane education, animal welfare, animal behavior and care, and disaster response. Education to the public in the form of counseling, pet behavior consultation and training, Temporary assistance in whatever manner needed, when possible to help families keep their pets." Harlee's Angels Vision "Harlee's Angels is recognized as a major resource for the welfare of homeless, abandoned and abused companion animals in the United States. Our goal is to lower euthanasia rates at county animal controls by: Bringing unwanted dogs into our program for medical, social rehabilitation and re-homing. Providing resources to pet owners to encourage their responsibility and commitment to their pets and prevent them from contributing to the homeless pet population (i.e. spay/neuter awareness, microchipping, etc.). We want to be a valuable resource to our community. We believe that one person can make the difference in the life of an animal in need, so as an organization, we have more strength to help more animals." I applied for Ricky a month after I saw him. But someone had already adopted him. I guess it wasn't meant to be. I was bummed. 2months later, I continued to check out the rescueme.org site and lo and behold Ricky was back for adoption. I'm told the previous owner had personal issues that brought him back. It was fate and he was mine. Today, and 15lbs heavier Ricky is ALL that I want in a dog. Handsome, Sweet, Happy, and Gentle too... he's fit very well into the family dynamics and with training has become a truly obedient and perfect family member. To think someone used him as a bait dog, or others thought he was not rehabilitatable! Wow. I got a true GEM!!!! Please rescue.. if your interested in a dog, please check out Harlee's Angels. There are great animals here and a perfect canine for your family. They will try and match your personality with the right dog. And this group is just the best. They can also board and help you train and assimilate your current dog with the new adoptee. They work so very hard to gives second chances to homeless, abused, neglected dogs. I brought my 11-year-old 62 lb pit mix to Dr. Farag after her tail tip was bleeding. She was…read moreotherwise in fairly good health and had no respiratory or other symptoms--this was the only issue we were seeing besides the bleeding. We discussed amputation as a way to prevent this from happening again. She stayed overnight on Wednesday, March 25. The next morning they took X-rays of her tail and chest and ran bloodwork. Later that day, Dr. Farag called to say they saw nodules in her chest and that it could possibly be metastasis/tumor or a fungal infection. Because of those findings, he recommended we not proceed with the tail surgery and that we see a specialist. He did say her bloodwork looked fairly okay for her age and that she seemed healthy overall. However, when I picked her up Thursday night and brought her home, she was extremely lethargic. I called immediately and spoke with the front desk about her being unusually low-energy. I was told she received a sedative and that more than a normal amount was given to keep her calm and prevent her from wagging her tail. They said if she still seemed that way the next day, I should bring her back, but otherwise to monitor her over the next few days. On Monday morning, March 30 (about four days after being there), I woke up at 3:30 a.m. to my dog struggling to breathe and unable to hold her head up. Within 10 minutes, she died. It was extremely sudden, and it didn't make sense to me given that she had never shown breathing issues prior to this. The next day I called, but Dr. Farag wasn't available. They told me he would call me back; I never received a call. About a week later, I called again from the original number and explained what happened. The front desk seemed honestly confused by how sudden it was. The following day Dr. Farag called me back. I was not satisfied with how defensive he was or how dismissive he became. I asked whether there was any explanation for how she died so suddenly and whether the sedative could have played a role, especially since I had been told more than the normal amount was given. He immediately said the information I was given was wrong, and then he started reading off doses while telling me to look them up online so that I could see the proper dose was given. He also added in there that it wasn't his practice and that it wasn't his fault or responsibility if the front desk gave me incorrect information amount the dose given. He also ended the call by saying she wasn't a healthy patient, which directly contradicted what he'd told me initially. I understand they found abnormalities in her chest on the X-ray. But for her to die within four days, after being active and otherwise fine beforehand, did not sit right with me. I wasn't calling to accuse anyone--I wanted answers, clarity, and compassion. I also want to note that I'm truly grateful for the vet techs and the front desk staff. They were helpful and empathetic throughout the process. My complaint is specifically with the doctor's responses--his defensiveness and lack of empathy--when I was simply trying to understand what happened. In the end, between wrapping her tail, X-rays, bloodwork, and the radiologist review, I spent around $1,300. It feels unbearable to say, but I feel like I spent $1,300 and went through all of that just for my dog to die shortly after. No it's not about the money if I could've spent thousands more just to keep her here I would have, but I feel I was given false hope when being told that she was fairly healthy, especially since I can see with my own eyes that she was a healthy and active dog. I know you can't predict certain things, but none of it makes sense, considering she never displayed any signs of her being unhealthy. If you bring your senior dog--or any dog--to this clinic, please be cautious. I just wish I had been given more clarity and kindness when I needed answers most. Also, since Dr. Farag was so quick to explain this wasn't his practice, and that misinformation given to me about his patient (my dog) has nothing to do with him, for whoever does own this practice, I would reconsider who you choose to assist with your business.
