Warning to pet owners: please use caution before bringing your dog to this clinic.
We originally brought our dog in for a very minor issue, slight eye discharge that we had been managing for about 3 1/2 weeks. The visit cost $310. Rather than starting with a more conservative treatment, Dr. Davis administered a steroid injection under our dog's lower eyelid. We later learned from the manufacturer's labeling that this medication is approved for human use only, which was never disclosed to us.
Within hours of getting home, our dog developed severe swelling around his face and eyes, excessive drooling, distress, and loss of bowel control. We had to make two emergency vet visits, which cost us an additional $1,000.
What has been most upsetting is how completely our dog was disregarded after this happened. The procedure was done on a Friday, yet there was no emergency contact number, no weekend follow-up, and no instructions about what symptoms to watch for. When we reached out Monday morning after two emergency visits, no one asked how our dog was doing or showed any concern for his condition. Instead, we were told we could pursue another treatment at additional cost.
After requesting the clinic's insurance information so we could file a claim, the only response we received was "do not call back." That was the extent of their communication after our dog suffered a serious reaction that required emergency care.
We would have been understanding if the clinic had taken responsibility in some way, whether by checking on our dog, refunding the original treatment, or helping cover at least part of the emergency expenses. Instead, we felt dismissed while our dog suffered from a reaction that followed the treatment they provided.
After this happened, the clinic's documentation was changed. I have copies of both the original and amended records with timestamps. The original record listed the injection as the first recommended treatment, followed by a biopsy. The amended version later stated that a biopsy had been recommended first. That does not match the documentation we originally received or what was discussed at the appointment, which is extremely concerning.
The issue we originally brought him in for was mild. The treatment ended up leading to a much more serious medical emergency and significantly greater expense than the original problem.
The first photo is from the drug manufacturer showing that this medication is approved for human use only. The second photo is what our dog's eye looked like at the original appointment. The remaining photos show the effects after the treatment.
I also want people to notice that this clinic responds to positive reviews, but when there is a serious issue, they do not appear willing to acknowledge it or make it right. I am incredibly thankful that our dog survived after we spent extensive amounts on emergency treatment.
After reading other reviews on Google and Yelp describing serious complications after treatment, I do not feel our experience was an isolated incident. Some of those reviews were heartbreaking and deeply concerning. read more
