My 14 year old chihuahua had an infected carnassial tooth and a slightly mobile canine tooth, which caused her sudden swelling and a visit to the vet. Our vet gave her antibiotics for the infection but communicated to me that in time the infection would return. He recommended extraction, but due to her age and the required anestesia, he referred me to a specialist for the surgery. He assured me that Dr. Van Nice at ADS was someone he really trusted. I have been taking my dog to our vet, Dr. Fanous in Newport Beach, for over 10 years so I really trust his expertise and opinion. I called ADS and made an appointment. Honestly, I was terrified of the possibility that there could be a complication. I overthink everything and I started to panic that she could die during surgery (ridiculous, I know). However, I knew that I would feel worse to let her deal with the pain and sensitivity she was experiencing for the past few weeks. I made the decision to go through with the surgery. Bella had 8 teeth removed, due to loose and rotting teeth mostly in the back of her mouth. This was all explained to me at her consultation, where they were able to examine her and give me an overview of what to expect. On the day of the surgery, I was updated throughout the process and that gave me some relief, as I was very worried and stressed. It has been 6 months since Bella's surgery and she is so happy. She is back to being playful and does not look miserable or sad anymore. I wish I would have done the surgery sooner. My vet referred me to a dental specialist for my elderly cat with stomatitis, due to age related risks and complications from the procedure/anesthesia. I called a few specialists and decided to go with Dr. Van Nice at Animal Dental Services because he seemed to be the most experienced. The front desk staff was responsive, friendly, and professional. I could immediately see that Dr. Van Nice is an expert in animal dentistry and a qualified specialist in the way that he explained the diagnosis and action we would take, and how he handled and looked into my cats mouth. The wait for the procedure was a couple months out from the consultation, but they put me on a cancellation list as a priority and my cat was able to get her procedure done much earlier. I sincerely appreciated that. Although I trusted Dr. Van Nice and his team with my cat, of course I was still worried because my cat is very elderly and in the past, she's taken a week to recover from anesthesia. Well...my cat did very well during and after the procedure/anesthesia and was back to her normal self after a DAY, which tells me they know exactly what they're doing. She is making a full recovery from her procedure and eating better now. I appreciated the texts with updates during her procedure and that they provide the visit summary/X-ray pictures, reports, all electronically. Going to a dental specialist is more expensive than your regular vet, but it is SO worth knowing that your baby will have the best care with less chances of complications and feel better soon, especially if you have a senior pet. I wish I went straight to a specialist, rather than waste time with vets who weren't as qualified. I hope Dr. Van Nice doesn't retire anytime soon!! Animal Dental Services is part of a large pet healthcare conglomerate called Thrive Pet Healthcare. That means, they are sales people first and foremost. They have quotas they must meet and services they must sell. But they will never admit this. As such, there is no one in the office that will answer any question regarding their services, you must make a consultation appointment with the doctor to get the answer. In my personal experience, I called the office to ask if "there was a type of special procedure that can be done to prevent a dogs tongue from hanging out of their mouth after extraction of the two small bottom incisors (my regular veterinarian said this would very likely happen). If the answer was yes, I would schedule a consult appointment with the specialist. If the answer was no, I would have my veterinarian do the dental on my dog." Long story short (after lots of back and forth with the lady that answered the phone and initially said she could answer my question), the lady said she did know. So I asked if she could ask the doctor. She said no, it was not possible. My only option to get an answer to that simple question, was to make a consultation appointment with the doctor and ask him face to face. Now, I'm sure, that I am not the first pet owner to ask that question. I did not ask for detail on a procedure, nor did I ask if my dog needed it. I simply asked if there were options to prevent the tongue from hanging out (such as Vital Pulp Therapy or root canal). Imagine, you as a human, calling a dentist office to ask if they do root canals or fillings and they tell you that you must schedule a consultation appointment with the dentist to get the answer! I can not express how kind and informative Dr. Van Nice and his staff were during my visit. He was so gentle with my 15-year-old old, who HATES having his teeth looked at; his calm energy put me at ease as well. I live in Manhattan Beach, and Dr. Van Nce is worth the drive. Dr Van Nice and his staff were amazing with my dog! My dog, Poppy, is terrified of going to the vet but Dr Van Nice and his staff were so understanding and gentle with her. After our initial consultation, we thought Poppy had fractured a tooth and needed a root canal. On the day of her procedure, they took x-rays and did a thorough examine and found out that the root of her tooth was actually healthy and she only needed a dental bonding instead of a root canal. They called me to tell me this good news and I was so happy that it was not as bad as we initially thought. As a bonus, the procedure ended up costing a lot less since Poppy didn't need a root canal. Thank you for taking such good care of Poppy and treating her with kindness. We are working on becoming more comfortable at the vet, and these types of experiences help her! I wanted to leave a review because I'm a crazy cat mom who read's reviews before doing anything with my fur babies. My cat had stomatitis and I tried everything before her vet recommended extractions. I will say we are on the extra side because her vet did not recommend specialty care but I wanted the best care for my babies procedure. All surgeries can be scary and me and my Sofia had anxiety leading up to it but ADS made it not worth any anxiety at all. The whole surgery day went perfectly and I couldn't have asked for better people to take care of my daughter (my cat Sofia). They were in constant contact with me so I didn't worry at all. Dr Van Nice called me after her procedure to tell me it went great! The other doctor Dr Merchel (I think is her name) is amazing she helped us with her discharge and post op recheck. I brought blankets for them to give to her after her surgery and they followed all of my wishes. They are extremely caring people. You can trust them with your most precious cargo. You can tell they are very organized and thorough. Worth every $1. Sofia's nurse was so caring her name was Stephanie. She went above and beyond to meet my wishes. They checked on us the next day to see how she was doing. My cat had just turned 2 so for us it was about the best quality of life for her many years ahead of her. My dog fractured her upper carnassial and needed a biopsy on a lump on her gums. My primary vet referred me to a dental specialist for treatment options. She did not refer me to Dr. Van Nice, but I had already done some research myself after I suspected she broke her tooth. In my hunt, the two dental specialty offices in the OC area that came highly recommended were the one she had referred me to and Animal Dental Services. I called both offices on March 19 to see when I could get a consultation. I knew before contacting the offices that getting an appointment would mean patience, as there are so few "doggie dentists" in the area. The specialist my vet referred me to had an opening on April 17, and Dr. Van Nice could see my dog on March 27. While both were highly qualified, I had already been leaning towards Dr. Van Nice since he is board certified; he's part of the Advanced Veterinary Specialty Group, the same as my dog's orthopedic specialist -- both in the same building; but the earlier appointment time was also a HUGE bonus. Consultation appointments are held from 8-9:30 am and the fee is $97. You have to give a credit or debit card to hold the appointment and I was told they will charge you the full amount if you give less than 24 hours notice of cancellation. Similar policy to my human dentist. Dr. Van Nice is the nicest man and was very gentle with my dog, who is beyond terrified of vet offices. Looking at the molar, he immediately diagnosed a slab fracture and gave me the option of a root canal with a crown or extraction. He laid out the pros and cons of each procedure, post-surgery recovery for each, but never once did I feel he was pushing me towards one versus the other, or that I would be doing my dog a disservice by doing an extraction instead of saving the tooth. He even took the time to explain how this fracture happens on a model of a dog's jaw and gave me tips on how to check if a chew is teeth-friendly. He was thorough and answered any and all questions I had. My dog had her biopsy/surgery on April 10 and as stressful as this situation was, I couldn't be more pleased with the level of care she received from everyone. I'm not sure what could've prompted the reviews saying Practice Administrator Julie was "difficult" because that wasn't my experience with her AT ALL. I had been expecting Nurse Ratchet judging by some of the other reviews, but she was efficient, knowledgeable, friendly and thorough in her post-op care instructions. I even requested a phone call after the blood panel/x-rays were done to make sure everything looked okay to proceed as planned, and she was more than willing to accommodate me. In the end, my final bill even turned out to be $200 less than what I was initially quoted. I wouldn't hesitate to bring my dog back to Dr. Van Nice and Animal Dental Services if ever the need should arise again. But with that said, I hope I never have to! read more

I had a relatively neutral to good experience with the consultation appointment to review my dogs dental health problems. My Vet referred me to Dr. Van Nice so that established a level of trust as my vet assured me he was a pleasant person which is true during the consultation appointment. The unpleasant surprise came when I received the bill estimate that quoted the range $2,6K to $3.8K. It's highly disappointing and even deplorable to see healthcare service that I initially trusted to high ball me when I was vulnerable position need care for my dog who has been in pain for months waiting while I saved up enough money for the dental surgery --simply put, it was disrespectful and disheartening. There are people and establishments in life who are simply don't care--they will do what is easiest and best for them personally, and what is expedient, without thought to those vulnerable to their mistreatment. Perhaps it's from fatigue, outside pressure, or I'll will, but the outcomes are the same: you hurt people and pets. Either high balling folks who worked to save up money for the operation or folks not having the money to go through with your unjustified prices. There are great providers in the unlikeliest places, and there are bad apples at even a referred place. Fortunately, I found Pet Dental Solutions in Huntington Beach that quoted me $900-$1.5K which is not only reasonably priced for the procedure but the range is not outrageous. I'm very lucky to have dodge a bullet economically. Pet dental solutions was very professional and personable--my dog had 9 teeth pulled and is now full recovered after 2weeks. The entire process from picking up my dog post surgery to receiving medication instructions to having 2 follow up appointments (free of cost), I knew I was in excellent hands. I trusted the place initially and want to raise awareness of the hidden injustice and provide other with an alternative that personal helped me when I was trying to save up money for my dog to have dental surgery. We all love our pets and want to receive care from a trust worth and reputable establishment. I see that Animal Dental Services has some positive ratings and perhaps they were the lucky ones. After dealing with other health issues in my 9 yr old newly adopted Maltese, he needed his teeth cleaned badly! My vet told me it would be better to have him seen by a certified veterinary dentist for his first time & referred me to Dr. Van Nice. From my first call to set up the consultation through the surgical cleaning, extractions (and removal of both a mass in his mouth and one on his skin), through the follow up 2 weeks later, everything went beautifully. I found everyone I spoke with (especially Dr. Van Nice) courteous, helpful, thorough, clear, and kind. The services of a specialist aren't cheap, but I thought the price was fair for all that was done for my boy and for the specialized knowledge and skill of the doctor and staff. I highly recommend Dr. Van Nice if your pet requires specialized dental care. p.s. Response to the reviews that complain about the perceived impatience of the office staff or inconveniences of adapting to the practice's schedule: You need to be understanding of how busy they are, and know that the entire office building with multiple specialized vet practices is still observing Covid safety protocols. I am not a patient at this establishment. Just want to share my experience. My cat injured his jaw a couple days ago and his mouth is now crooked and drooling frequently. Urrgent care vets took xrays and said he had a type of fracture that they cannot do anything about. They suggested I call a vet dentist office to see if there might be something that he can do to help the fracture heal properly. I called this office and explained the situation and asked if the Dr can see my boy before the jaws starts to heal back improperly. Nope. Staff said before any diagnosis or advice can be given, I would need to have an appointment first. However, they are fully booked this month so it would have to be sometime next month. Sadly, by then the jaws would have healed back improperly on its own already. There's not many veterinarian dentists around, so I'm worried I won't be able to find anyone to help my boy. read more

Ignore the negative reviews you read about this dentist. Here is why: Our Bella cracked her tooth in half on a treat that was way to hard for her to chew on. So I called local vets in our home area by woodland hills, I learned by calling different vets that we needed a specialist dentist that was BOARD CERTIFIED BY AVDC (American Veterinary Dental College) , we learned there was only 2 that were within a 2 hour drive, one in Los Angeles and one in Tustin. We decided to go to Animal Dental services. We drove from West hills to Tustin at 6:30am and got to Tustin at 8:30am, traffic was horrible on a Monday morning, our appointment was at 9:30am. The 2 buildings have different vet specialties here, it's great to have these kind of services if we ever need them. We walked up to the counter for the dental office, and was greeted by Julie which is also the Dental technician for Dr. Van Nice. She is very very sweet. We waited for a few moments in the lobby, and they have a really nice coffee machine to make a fresh cup of coffee for you. And also a very very nice water dispenser. They want u to be as comfortable as possible. She took us to the consultation room to see Dr. Van Nice. The staff here is very very loving. They really do show the love they have for our furry loved ones. Dr. Van Nice came in and greeted us. He sat on the floor immediately to be at eye level with our Bella to make her not feel so worried. He is a really nice Dr. He discussed with us about the options we have for Bella's teeth, now we have brushed Bella's teeth everyday since she was a puppy, and even with daily brushing, we learned the tooth brush was unable to reach the very back of her teeth and she had some teeth that were not in good condition that had plaque and tarter on the rear teeth, so we asked him if he could do a deep cleaning, He said no problem and he also advised us AHEAD OF TIME, if he finds anything unusual that he would let us know to get our ok to do anything that would be recommended for Bella's health. We mainly came in there for the cracked tooth, but discovered that some of her teeth had some issues under the gum that we couldn't see that caused damage to her teeth. He gave us TWO estimates, one for just fixing that cracked tooth and the second estimate that shows fixing the cracked tooth along with a cleaning and possible extractions for the bad teeth in the back of her mouth if necessary. Dr van nice was very very thorough, he made sure to show us and tell us everything in detail, we even asked they only used a specific type of anesthesia and also specific type of warming application before and after the procedure and he was more then happy to accommodate us, we did not feel uncomfortable at all here. So, we left Bella there and about 2 hours later we get a call from Julie stating that during the deep cleaning he found that he recommends removing the teeth in the far back that tooth brushes can't reach because they were not able to be saved, now they made sure to get our consent first before moving on and they told us a new estimate. We agreed to the new higher estimate, I really appreciate that they called me and asked me First. Then she called me about 45 minutes later and told us Bella would be finished with the procedure at a certain time and that there were no issues during the procedure. We went to pick up Bella, Julie talked to us and explained all the medications and gels we needed to apply, she was very thorough and explained everything perfectly, we were anxious to see our baby. And she was so excited to see us. She could not move her mouth much, but she was so happy. The dr then came in and explained what he did and what he found, he also provided us images of her X-Rays and pictures of her teeth before the procedure. We asked him to save her teeth for us and he did. We are so happy we came here to do her procedure, we would recommend this dentist to anyone that wants to get any dental work done on their furry loved ones. 5 stars!! Please know that an estimate is an ESTIMATE, and if Dr Van Nice finds any issues, they will always call you first before doing more work to get your consent to do any additional work if u allow it. read more

Dr. Van Nice took good care of my Savannah Cat and repaired her chipped tooth without having to do anything invasive. He also cleaned her teeth and she came home looking great. Dr Van Nice is great! Brody is a 10 year old yellow lab and needed a deep cleaning. If you're reading this you're a "dog person" and it takes one to know one. Dr Van Nice, Rachelle and Julie are all very much dog people. Sometimes at a vet you can tell that that's just their job, not a calling or passion, just how they pay rent. Not the case here. At no time was I unclear about what was happening or uncomfortable in any way. When I picked Brody up the actual cost was 1/2 of what they quoted. My little guy's teeth were a little better than they had expected, which was great! The quote was for a worse case scenario. I was pleased to see it wasn't that bad. Nothing needed to be pulled, just cleaned. The entire experience was smooth and painless for both of us. You're in very good hands with these guys. read more

Kind of hard to rate this place. We only came here for a consult because our fur baby had a shattered tooth. My brother is a veterinary surgeon and he recommended this doctor to us in orange county. There are only a few doctors that are actually certified by AVDC (American Veterinary Dental College) and that's why he recommended this doctor to us. The doctor spent about 5 minutes with our pup with a consult charge around $100. Granted, the doctor stated that we can get our pup treated with our local vet and get the shattered tooth extracted and recommended this option as opposed to the more expensive option of the whole trying to save the tooth with a root canal, etc. He stated that if it was his own dog, he would probably get the tooth extracted with the local vet. I do appreciate the honesty (although very blunt and brief). However, customer service can probably be improved upon. I know the office probably gets inundated with crazy pet people like myself but please remember we are people that really love our pets. So Ms. Receptionist please be more helpful and a little bit kinder. read more

After a couple weeks of waiting for an appointment (i guess this is one of the few hospitals around with a board certified dental specialist) we finally got in here to get our dogs K-9 tooth repaired. The doctor went over every option in the book for her and informed us of what he felt was the best or our situation. We never felt rushed or pressured through the whole process. Luckily they were able to accommodate an evaluation and have the procedure done all in one day. All of the staff was extremely kind, courteous and informative. This place will only do evaluations of your dog between the hours of 8-9:30AM... This is not only off-putting, but also impractical and completely unprofessional. Unless, of course, you live next door and happen to be a lark. If you were to come from outside of Tustin, you will not make it in time: appointment or not. So, don't bother. Seeing that the next dental specialty clinic is in Culver City, it's no surprise that this place has designated its own take-it or leave-it scheduling. I'd like to start this review by saying that each pet, species, family and financial situation is unique. My primary vet (Dr. Shawn Camacho, VCA) explained that if it was feasible to do, she needed to have her teeth cleaned to diagnose and hopefully prevent any infection from going to her heart or becoming an emergency situation. The last time I had cleaned her teeth was at around age 10. To put a senior dog under anesthesia at 13 was anxiety inducing, but with the right vet and attention to blood work, I understood that the risk was minimal and the benefit maximum. My vet kept me posted on the day of her cleaning and informed that several of her teeth were bad and needed to be extracted. Unfortunately, some of those teeth were very complex and removing them could have significantly impacted her. My vet did the right thing by removing what he could safely, and referring me to ADS and Dr. Nice for "doggy dentistry". Given that her first cleaning went so well and she was acting great, I decided to wait and see. About a year later, here we are. Same situation a year later and my dog is now 14, again referred to Dr. Nice. This time I took the advice! Like other reviewers, a consult was mandatory and wasn't cheap - $97 for a trip to Tustin. That being said, Dr. Nice is a specialist for a reason. He came in, took the time to talk to and comfort my dog and went above and beyond explaining what he thought needed to be done. My quote was about $2150. A little sticker shock but the quote addressed a variety of situations and extractions along with the usual suspects (meds, anesthesia, after care... the non-negotiables). Getting the cleaning/surgery appointment was tough! They are really booked out. That being said, I spoke with Julie multiple times who was more than happy to check the schedule for me to see about cancellations. Lucky me, my pup got moved up a week. Yesterday was her surgery and Julie took her back as soon as I arrived. Like a nervous mom, I wanted to call and check in every hour. As promised though, Julie called to give me the update after x-rays and explained that she was doing fine under anesthesia. Not too long after, she called again with an update that my little girl had four extractions and nothing too complicated (lucky us). I was even able to pick her up earlier than expected. Speaking of the pick up, Rachelle was also outstanding at explaining my dog's after care, meds and answering all my questions and anomalies. She is truly excellent at her job and obviously has a passion for animals! I saw Dr. Nice again which made me feel even better about the $97 consultation fee. He went into depth, again, showing me my dog's x-rays and demonstrating on a plastic model. That really helped me to visualize where she would be experiencing pain. To top it all off, my final payment was significantly less than I was quoted. Why? Because Dr. Nice weighed the pros and cons of doing more invasive surgery for what was not likely an issue for my hound. Today, my girl is acting herself spry self again and is already eating and kissing! She took a long, long nap but I am grateful she is home. I'd like to end this review by saying that I am aware there are many people out there who simply cannot afford this type of care for their animals. It is a chunk of change and can also be very scary - surely feels better to avoid. That being said, I am thankful to ADS and Dr. Nice for making this whole experience a little bit easier for me and my best friend. You reassured me that age is not a disease and gave my dog back her comfort, which is priceless. read more

Fabulous experience. The vet was so nice- I was really impressed by how sweet and kind he was to my dog. He took the time to explain everything and let me know how my pet was doing. If you ever need any dental surgery completed on you pet this is the place to go. His front of staff could be a bit warmer- but don't let that dissuade you from trusting them with your loved furry friends. They are a very busy practice- and help so many animals. Dr. Van Nice is exactly the blend of compassionate & steaight forward that you would create in lab- for who's going to be a Vet. My 15 month old Malamute mix "Odin" chipped an upper-canine. Having experience with large breeds my entire life- I knew Odin's "adult" teeth although in- were not "mature"- and due to this, very comcerned about Odin's dental well being going forward. De. Van Nice took the time to completely explain what Odin's condition - with photo examples- my options & his recommendations- along with a firm quote for treatment (abscent complications of course) Odin will be going in next Wed for his first course of treatment. I am highly confident Dr. Van Nice will provide excellent treatment along with aftercare. I will post follow up reviews along the way- but anticipate excellence from Dr. Van Nice and the staff. Was referred to Dr. Nice by my own Vet, who highly recommended his facility. My cat had a broken front tooth. The initial consultation was so quick. No waiting around in this place. Straight to the point. We had a few options and chose to extract the tooth, for her own benefit. Julie at the front desk is awesome. Makes you feel like family. The surgery was pretty quick and they took such good care of my lil Sally. My cat is doing so well and I am so happy with the results. She is no longer in pain. This Vet's office is the most unprofessional and most non-understanding Vet's office Around. My girlfriend and I needed an appointment for our dog who was dying. They could not get in the same day. So We made an appointment for the following day. Our dogs condition worsened and had to be brought into to the ER Vet. My girlfriend called to cancel our appointment and this Vets office charged us $200 for cancellation. My girlfriend informed them that we had just spent over thousand dollars and that we could not afford to pay $200 dollars for canceling our appointment. The office did not care and did not work with us. I will never recommend this Vets office to anyone and would give it a 0 rating if I could. read more

i have a vet aggressive 140lb great dane with a fractured tooth that was given UNBELIEVABLE care today. the entire team at animal dental services were patient, kind and wonderful! My Maisy needed extra time to get comfortable before an exam could happen and she's NEVER liked a vet as much as she liked Eric. and the other staff were so nice to her too! i was neurotic about having her go under for this procedure and they were patient, reassuring and communicative with me, above and beyond. i cannot recommend this place enough! My Vet referred me to Animal Dental Services (ADS) after my dog broke a tooth while chewing on a bone. I called ADS and arranged an appointment for both a consultation and to have the procedure performed that same day. I was told that my dog would need a full blood test either prior to or the day of the procedure. The instructions given on the phone were not totally clear. I had the blood work performed by my Vet and forwarded to ADS. The tooth that my dog broke was 1 of the small teeth at the front of her mouth. After arriving at ADS my dog was seen by Dr. van Nice. I was told that what she needed was minimal: 1 tooth extracted; a check of her teeth and cleaning. This was to be performed under general and local anesthesia. She was checked in. ADS called me later to pick her up. When I came in to the office to pick up my dog after the procedure, the manager, Julie, explained to me the details about the recovery and administering the pain med, anti-inflammatory and anti-biotics. I did not fully understand the instructions so I asked for clarification. Julie was extremely impatient, rude, insensitive and condescending. It was apparent that she was upset that I was taking far too much of her time and it appeared that she didn't understand why I was bothering her with questions. I spoke to Dr. van Nice regarding administering the meds and whether there was some leeway on timing; Julie insisted on the meds being administered at precisely the exact time - i.e. 4AM in the morning, etc. and when I normally would be at work. Prior to bringing my dog in for the procedure, ADS had indicated to me that I should watch my dog after the procedure and I could return to work the next day. I told Dr. van Nice that I was having difficulty understanding and dealing with Julie and her extremely rigid instructions. Dr. van Nice stated that there was, in fact, some leeway. He then sent Julie back in to the room with me for some additional verbal abuse. When I had returned to pick my dog up, I left her collar, leash and harness in the car. I was told that after speaking to Dr. van Nice I would have time to go out to retrieve those items. Before I could go out to get those items, they brought my dog out, still groggy and obviously suffering the effects of the meds. No one at ADS tried to help me. I had to struggle to get her out to the car in her semi sedated state and with great difficulty get her harness on and lift her into the car. I related the story and associated charges by ADS to a friend who recently retired from many years managing a veterinary clinic. He told me that I was overcharged by approximately twice what should have been charged based upon what procedures were performed. I also discussed my experience with my referring veterinarian. The total charges added up to nearly $2,000 (to include the blood testing). She also felt that the charges were high and that she would not be taking her dog to Dr. van Nice. It is really sad and pathetic the way ADS treats client's and so unnecessary. read more

I hate to write a bad review without seeing the vet, but this is the only way I would be able to get through to him. Dr.Van Nice, After reading your reviews, I was hopeful of making an appointment with you, but your receptionist Julie out rightly asked me to see someone else. When I spoke with her, I informed Julie of our situation; I told her that our dog (11) has had all but 2 premolars and molars extracted and is showing the same symptoms that he did when the teeth were extracted previously. I told her that we will probably need to have the remaining 2 teeth cleaned or extracted as well. I asked Julie if I could get an estimate of how much it would cost me to get his teeth cleaned or extracted if they had to be. Her reply was "$600-$1200, but I'm not sure. We cannot say anything without the initial consultation". Okay, that's fair, since she is not a vet. I asked her if it would include the cost of anesthesia and blood work ? "I'm not sure, the doctor would need to look at it. But for 2 teeth, that is the range." I asked her if there was a way to speak with you during your free time to get a better idea of the cost, and she said that you "do not speak to clients". Between the conversation, she rebuffed my questions like they were silly. Now YOU tell ME doctor, is it true that you do not speak to clients ? Do you do the consultations behind the anonymity of a tablet or a computer screen using a webcam ? I told her that we had spoken to some other vets and they were able to give me an estimate for how much the anesthesia and blood work would cost. At this point, her reply was "So, you have other vets ?" At this point, I had enough. To explain my questions, you are a specialist and each specialist charges differently. We don't want to drive an hour and half to find out that you charge $2000 for basic procedure of cleaning and the estimate of $600-$1200 does not include those costs. Also, we live pretty far and it is not easy for us to drive our dog around for long periods. We need to make sure that we can utilize his energy which he doesn't have much of now a days. When people call doctors clinics, we don't have unrealistic expectations. We realize that an estimate is an estimate and we wont hold anyone against it if that changes after the consultations. (Btw, $600-$1200 is not an estimate, its a range and it is a pretty large range for the specifics of 2 teeth needing to be cleaned or extracted after anesthesia). If by some miracle, the teeth can be saved, it will still require anesthesia which in turn will warrant blood work, so those costs will not change. What we look for when we call a doctors clinic, is for is for someone who shows compassion, acknowledges that they understand the situation we are in and tries to help as much as possible. Your receptionist Julie displayed absolutely none of those. On the contrary she had demeaning tone. She showed all signs of not wanting to help or facilitate things. Before I hung up, I let her know that I was going to write a review about this on Yelp. It has been almost an hour since I hung up, and I have not received even a phone call asking me if the situation can be clarified. Clearly, no one cares. read more
