This review is long overdue. I've been bringing my dog, Chelsea, to OC Veterinary for 10 years, ever since I moved her down from the Bay Area. Chelsea recently passed away at 17, almost 18. She had such a long, happy life because of the care she received here. Chelsea was my baby, and I know how hard it can be to find a good vet. Pets can't talk, but you can see when they are genuinely cared for--and Chelsea got the best care at OC Veterinary. From the receptionists to the doctors, she was loved by everyone, and I am so grateful for that. Chelsea saw both Dr. Horn and, mostly, Dr. Nikki--both are exceptional veterinarians. We saw Dr. Nikki the most, and we had a very special connection with her. After Chelsea passed, Dr. Nikki even reached out to check on us, which was incredibly kind. She is practical, compassionate, and everything you could want in a vet. Chelsea also saw the groomer, Heather, who was very gentle and careful with her. Chelsea had back issues and was an older little lady, so it was comforting to know she was in safe hands. Sandra and Steve also made a big impact on Chelsea's life, especially Steve. They cared for her like she was their own family. Steve even called to check on us after Chelsea passed, which meant so much. I'm sorry this review comes so late, but I feel Chelsea would have wanted me to write it, and I want to honor her memory. No one enjoys visiting the doctor, but I am so grateful that we found such a wonderful facility to care for Chelsea. I loved her with all my heart, and after our family, OC Veterinary loved her most. read more

Saying goodbye to Gyzmo was one of the hardest things we've had to do. The staff showed us kindness in the darkest moments. Dr. Horn was empathetic and helped us show our boy how much love was in the room as he crossed the rainbow bridge. They helped bring peace in a time where all we could feel was heartbreak. If you're comfortable paying premium prices, this may be the vet for you--but be prepared for some serious sticker shock. As a dog owner for over 40 years, I'm no stranger to the rising costs of veterinary care, but the level of overcharging here was beyond what I've experienced elsewhere. Every visit came to at least $600, often much more. At first, I justified the expense because my previous vet had long wait times. But the breaking point was being charged $63 just to ask a quick question on the phone about a medication my dog had already been prescribed--after I had already spent $1,200 on two visits. I ended up just going to Google for my answer about this medication. In my decades as a pet owner, I have never encountered such blatant price gouging. My question could have been answered in under two minutes, but instead, I was told I'd need to pay for the privilege. That's not just expensive--that's exploitative. Thankfully, there are many other excellent vets in the area who provide quality care without nickel-and-diming their clients. If you want to drain your wallet for every interaction, this clinic will gladly oblige. Personally, I'd rather entrust my pets to a veterinarian who shows compassion not only for the animals but also for the families who love them. read more

Took my recently adopted adult/senior dog Watson to OCVMC and have been incredibly impressed with the care, compassion, and professionalism I received from the entire staff. More specifically Dr. E took his time to explain the best plan of care/medication to address his symptoms, was gentle in handling him, and clear communication. Sandra as well was incredibly kind. She took her time explaining the invoice, options to save a bit of money, and was so sweet with Watson. Watson is resting a bit more comfortable because of them. read more

I have a hard time with this, but honestly I'm so tired of this place and let me start out by saying that the only reason we come back is for the grooming. Dog-labradoodle 28 pounds He has ear infections very frequently that he gets treated here, but they keep coming back. He eats human grade special diet food, still ear infections. Blamed the groomer so I started taking my dog to their groomer. Still getting ear infections. The point of this is that they are not very informative or helpful for his chronic ear infections, they just treat him and send him on his way. Oh and charge me 380 dollars each time. I decided to get his teeth cleaned here because they were advertising a discount for the month, biggest mistake. It cost me 1200 dollars to get my 2 year old healthy (besides his left ear) dogs teeth cleaned. When I picked him up, they said exact words "omg he did so great, there was no bleeding and no swelling he was incredible". I then was handed the receipt that said he was given a medication (88 dollars). I asked what this was and they told me the medication was to treat swelling in the gums. I said I thought you said he didn't have any? Literally nothing was said. Nothing. I was looked at like I was the worst person for questioning my dogs care. They didn't even call me to approve it. I've been going here since my dog was 8 weeks old. Have spent almost 10k in vet bills (I keep the receipts for insurance purposes) and the customer service is the worst. Like the front desk girls are so rude. Especially Chloe. Sorry Chloe but someone needs to tell you. It's bad. If I'm asking for an explanation in pricing please don't roll your eyes or act annoyed. It's every time. Alright! Well the doctors are alright. The real winner here is the groomer. Other than that don't waste your money. It's ridiculously expensive. Our visit was like Silence if the Lambs except the FBI agent didn't remember the victim she was conducting a coroner examination on. Dr. Elahi treated my dog like a dead specimen talking into a note recorder notating things he had already noted 2 months before not reviewing his notes. He didn't really listen to what I was saying except to answer questions for his coroner evaluation on my not so dead dog. I said my dog was either having seizures or sleep apnea and he never asked questions related to the latter. He did not use any common sense experience in his evaluation but instead resulted only in the science of his observations. You can't properly treat or diagnose animals like this. If an animal who is blind walks around the room, they aren't having neurological problems, they're learning their environment. So then he takes my dog to the back and claps to see if he can hear and says my dog didn't respond. Unfortunately, the doctor just failed to see my dog's response as he reacted as soon as my dog was brought back. Here's what I really don't like though. Don't keep an animal experiencing anxiety in the back barking for its owner while you try to get their owner to sign off on thousands in tests. I went here because they claimed they were holistic. That ended up to be just yelp paid advertising trying to redirect from the actual holistic vet down the street. Simply put. They failed to earn my trust! read more

My beloved 13 year old Bengal Luna became ill about 3 months ago. Dr Niki was recommended by a friend. She was kind, informative and honest as test results validated many health issues. Her plan provided Luna relief, she gained weight & my little girl was back for a while. Dr Niki handled end of life with compassion. My first time here. Nice and friendly staff, both on the phone and in person. I had to wait over 20 minutes to both of my appointments. Very pricey and my dog's ear infection was treated by just plugging the hair the first time and not packing his ear as with other vets. So for that it was an expensive visit. The follow up visit was also expensive because then, they packed his ear and again charged for test fee although it was the same infection and more of plugging hair. On the other hand, they recommended an allergy shot and that worked really well. My dog is licking his foot and belly less. read more

The first thing I'm going to say is that this Veterinary costs a premium for exams, medical work, prescriptions and etc. I'd advise that you get pet insurance to help with the costs as this is a premium place. I've been to 10+ vets, so I have a lot of experience with pricing. With that being said, their services are truly top notch. From the moment you walk in, to when you talk to the doctor, and even finish with payment. It is top notch customer service and everyone truly cares about your animal and you as a client. All the doctors take their sweet time with you and don't rush EVER. I spent 45 minutes to almost an hour with Dr Nikki and not once did she seem like she was trying to leave early. Dr. Nikki is probably the best vet I've had. Dr. Horn also spent his time with my pup and really showed genuine love for his craft. Additionally, this is the only vet that actually had a good solution to my dog's persistent paw licking, red feet and ear infections. We've been battling it for years and they got all the right medication first try. I love it. One thing I hate about vets is the paperwork and lack of organization. Well, that's a thing of the past with OC Veterinary Medical Center. All doctor's notes, treatment plans and full details are printed upon checking out. You literally have everything you need before leaving which is great for insurance and documentation purposes. It was always a chore to ask for notes at other veterinarian practices. Shot reminders and regular wellness medication emails are actually sent to you so that you don't forget... I absolutely love this service as I always forget about these things due to my busy life. The reminders for health check ups and appointments are fantastic. I even got a text confirming appointments which I've never had before. Lastly, when you call, someone always picks up and is prompt. Hell, they even took notes on when they attempted to call my last vet trying to get records but my last vet never followed up. This is peak organization and great service. They always take calls and help. All in all, this place does cost a premium, but you get a premium experience. Thats why I'm choosing to make this my primary veterinary moving forward. I've been going to OCVMC since 2011, obviously Dr. Horn has expanded and brought in some wonderful doctors to help run his practice! I've encountered all of them and they have his same mindset, they are all on the same page. Unfortunately, King Louie passed away 08/25/2021 very unexpectedly and fast. It happened at a different vet hospital but OCVMC was so comforting, they sent a touching condolence card that every staff member signed, I have it on my kitchen counter next to KL's urn. I didn't know if I would ever get another dog, and if I did, could I ever come back. The pain of losing a pet is so immense that going back to the same places you once brought them is very difficult. I'm sure many pet owners can relate to that. My sister bought me a new puppy last year and I didn't hesitate to bring Onyx here. Obviously, the first time I brought Onyx here I had a meltdown. The staff and Dr. Rodrigues were so understanding and comforting. They understood my pain and embraced Onyx the minute we brought him in. Onyx has been seen by all of the doctors but mainly under the care of Dr. Niki. He had his neutering done as well, all his shots, microchipping, etc. Onyx has started to develop skin and stomach issues the last few months, which has resulted in more frequent trips to the vet. His itching isn't under control yet, we are trying with Cytopoint and food. Dr. Niki did extensive bloodwork + imaging for his stomach to rule out pancreatitis & cushings disease. These diseases are prone to the schnauzer breed. Thank goodness he has neither but does have IBD with BVS {bilious vomiting syndrome} . It requires medication and a strict food regimen and thank goodness he hasn't thrown up in weeks! We are hoping at some point we can transition him back to some of his favorite treats and regular food! Your pup is in good hands when you bring them to OCVMC! ^__^ read more

They greet you upon arrival and you personally get to meet and have a detailed consultation with the doctor while they examine your pet. I absolutely love this veterinary center. We've been bringing our dogs here for over 10 years and love it. Our dogs usually see Dr. Rodrigues but have also seen Dr. Horn as well and we've had nothing but good experiences. They are always very upfront with what they recommend for our pets and explain what they recommend doing vs. what is just optional. They really care about your pets here and let you know the pros and cons of every medicine or procedure. The staff here are all wonderful, from the receptionists to the techs to the doctors. They also have an app you can download to help you keep track of upcoming vaccines and appointments. We have been able to easily request vaccine records and blood test results from the app and the staff always reply very quick! We will continue to bring our pets here for years to come! read more

The office is clean and beautiful all the texts are wonderful even the girls behind the counter. And my veterinarian Doctor Rodriguez. The moment we took our sweet sheep a doodle in for a check up he got down on the floor with her to bond... And that was the moment we both fell in love with our veterinarian Doctor Rodriguez is the sweetest kindest man and I don't trust lightly this is somebody who's going to take care of a family member. She gets so excited when Doctor Rodriguez walks into The waiting room And every time he gets on the floor with her To her not only to us. Dr Rodrigues was there for us in a very trying time - we were having to start making the decision to say goodbye to one dog while coaching another dog through early puppyhood. He treated us with empathy, kindness, and factuality for both of our dogs and their treatment plans. One thing I love about Dr Rodriguez is that he first defines what could potentially be wrong, then he gives different options for treatment. He's great at walking through what could happen, the different effects of different treatments, and helping set realistic expectations. He has never minimized or sugar coated any concerning results and he's never over exaggerated or made me panic about any of the more minor issues that weren't actually big deals. I've always felt that he has our pets best quality of life in mind, and I've felt that he respects us as the people who know what treatment option could be best. Brought her in a few weeks later to be groomed. They were offering a Yelp check instead deal at the time. (Check their page and see). They took her in and a few hours later I had her back smelling great with a nice cut for the summer heat. They have items for sale and a nice fish tank in the waiting room. My wife and I have been taking our two dogs here for the past 5 months or so. We have gone in for check ups, vaccines, and neutering. While all of the doctors here are very knowledgeable and helpful the front desk people are not. My wife called for an emergency for one of our dogs who was having a severe allergic reaction (an hour and a half before close). They brushed her off saying "I guess if you feel it's an emergency you can go to an emergency care" rather than allowing her to quickly come by the 4 doctor practice. They are also pretty rude every time I have called to set up an appointment and always make it difficult not being able to find me in the system. Unfortunately, with these issues we have decided to take our dogs somewhere else that can provide more personal treatment and care. read more

Took my doggie right at 7am when they opened because she's coughing up blood. Was hoping someone could see her but ALL of the front desk staff there didn't even look up at me or my doggie. Right after I said hello they right away proceeded to tell me my dog couldn't be seen without an appointment even though they saw how my dog was. In pain. No empathy, they didn't turn their eyes to look at her and wouldn't even offer to see her at a later time or date. They completely dismissed me like trash. I took my baby to another place in Fountain Valley (not ER) and they saw her within the hour. Safe to say I will not be taking any of my pets here even though they're down the street. I never left a review for this facility back when they treated my pet in 2017, so here it is now: I believe that Horn failed to diagnose my cat's urethral obstruction which resulted in me having to take my cat to an emergency pet clinic just 2 days after Horn said everything would be okay. I was also charged for a medication that was never provided, and as to another medication... the office instructed us to administer it to our cat in a manner that was prohibited by the medication manufacturer. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what went wrong. Horn finally admitted "I'm very sorry that we were not able to provide you with the level of customer service that I feel our clients deserve," but he never did anything to make it right. read more

My dog Lana absolutely lovessss her vet Dr. Nikki Hui. We've been coming here since she was a puppy. During her first appt with Dr. Nikki, Lana was so relaxed she fell asleep on the exam table! Never thought a pup could be so content at the vet's office. :) I've been to numerous vets throughout my life with other dogs, rabbits, hamsters, and a chinchilla. I've never had a vet who spends so much quality time with the patient (my pup) and with me and answering any questions I have. She's also very knowledgeable in large breed dogs which is perfect :) and exactly what we need. Dr. Nikki was great at communicating with me regarding Lana's condition(s) and making sure Lana continues to do well. I also really love that Dr. Nikki went above and beyond by reaching out to us via email since I didn't catch her when I called the office. Little details like this make a HUGE difference for worried parents! Lana is always excited to go see Dr. Nikki. I decided to start bringing my other pup here as well. Going to the vet's has become a fun road trip. As it should be :) The front office staff is always very helpful and answers questions. I really appreciate the help I get with weighing my pups (especially cause I have two). There's always smiles on their faces and the energy level has always been happy and positive. I don't recommend this place because a) the level and standard of care is seriously lacking and b) because they overcharge for services/price gouge and offer tests and procedures that are not needed so they can charge you more. We took our cat to see Dr. Nikki for a check up and blood work. She also had a tag on her skin that needed to be removed. They gave us a quote for the surgery totaling almost $3000!!!! The itemized charges included using lead strips for $60 and separate charges for plugs and connectors. Totally preposterous. We took her someplace else that charged $1000! I have had pets my whole life. I understand vet care is expensive but there is expensive and there is price gouging. And these people do the latter, shamelessly no less. As pet parents we love our babies and they know that and basically prey on that and charge the maximum they can, knowing that desperate pet parents would do anything. The other issue is that 2 days after our visit our cat started having liquid diarrhea and vomiting (her bloodwork showed everything was ok). The weekend was coming up and we know how dangerous fluid loss can be, so we drove over 45 minutes in Friday rush to get some medication to address her diarrhea. Dr. Nikki was not there and Dr. Horn refused to even speak to us. He instead prescribed us antiacid. Really? Antiacid to treat diarrhea? He should know better than that. He told his assistant that we can either take the antacid or leave it, but he would not prescribe anything else and not see us, end of story. They suggested that we could bring the cat back, wait around and then "maybe" someone can see her. Can you imagine being this uncaring and inconsiderate toward the well being of your patient to seriously ask us to drag a cat in distress and huge anxiety, possibly dehydrated and with nausea, all the way through weekend traffic to hang around the office? And to what end? SHE WAS JUST THERE TWO DAYS AGO! And you did bloodwork. What could you possibly determine via visual inspection that you didn't see TWO DAYS AGO? We went back home with a useless antacid that did nothing. Then Dr. Nikki emails us the next day sending a link (!) to a questionable "study" mostly focused on dogs, about how bad antibiotics (metronidazole) supposedly are because antibiotic resistance blah blah blah. She suggested we change her diet!! Here you have a cat that has acute symptoms including being nauseated so she doesn't even have an appetite and instead of addressing that urgent need first, her response is change her diet. She also recommended we bring her in for an ultrasound, but we have to do it at ANOTHER FACILITY and it could take "weeks" before we even get an appointment. Meanwhile, our cat is having diarrhea and losing fluids etc. Look, I get it, overuse of antibiotics is an issue, even for humans. But sometimes when the symptoms are severe, you triage and address the more urgent symptoms first before suggesting long term approaches. When you have a bleeding wound, you stop the bleeding first. You don't just let the patient bleed out suggesting they get an X-ray. After a week of back and forth, she begrudgingly prescribed the medication and sent me an email saying she was disappointed that WE were not happy with her approach to this (i.e. letting a cat just suffer from diarrhea and vomiting for a week, potentially being put in a life threatening situation). So no, I don't recommend this office. The price gouging is gross and the level and standard of care leave much to be desired. As a clinic, you should always have room for urgent cases; You also don't put the patient under more duress than you need to and you don't prescribe expensive testing without having explored simpler approaches first. And, when you got a patient with acute symptoms you address those first, then look at long term treatment. I saw the responses Dr. Horn gave to others here who have also complained about their lack of empathy and unethical pricing and him basically saying he basically has no choice but to nickel and dime and overcharge people because "we have families to take care of and it takes time to talk to you on the phone". GTFO. What decent doctor charges money to talk to patients on the phone? I email and text and call my vet, free of charge. Yes they do all this follow up stuff like sending emails but that's just frosting and in no way a substitute for quality care, not to mention empathy. They really have no regard for the financial impact of the unnecessary procedures and tests they prescribe, mistaking charging for caring. I don't like it when doctors act like sleazy car-salesmen instead of compassionate professionals. They didn't really care about our cat. She was just an itemized bill. That's not a place you want to entrust with the care of your pet. Trust me. read more

This place is fantastic. I highly recommend them for any pet. I have had three dogs and a cat seen here and everyone's visit was smooth sailing. Two of my dogs ended up with Cushing's disease. This is a very tricky disease and treating them required supervision. Any time I needed something, an answer was quickly provided. Dr. Horn, who is our vet, seems to have endless patience and worked hard to understand each of our pets. The bad reviews have no place here. I believe a lot of them come up because they bring their dog in without an appointment. It's not an urgent care center so they need to refer out. Existing clients who call for emergencies are told to drop their pet off by 8 and then are examined while the doctor has some time. I've had to do this several times and this allowance provides compassionate care without the waiting you'd see with traditional vets trying to work you into a tight schedule. There's no waiting here which I really love. They just call you when the dog is ready for pick-up and you're given a report of what they've done plus any recommendations or prescriptions. The reason why I switched to this practice is because another area vet missed my dog's diagnosis and I felt completely ignored when I kept calling for her to be seen as her symptoms got worse. I was able to schedule an appt right away at OC Vet and they diagnosed and started treating my pup the same day. read more

Wonderful staf who has the best intentions and knowledge for your fur babies. They are so helpful and will do what they can to remediate your circumstance. They will do their best to not run extra tests if not necessary as everything costs money. If necessary they will let you know from their perspective what is recommended. read more

I took my dog to OC Veterinary Medical Center for the first time today. I cannot begin to emphasize how wonderful the staff were at this veterinary office. everyone from the ladies at the reception desk, to the techs, and the doctor. Dr. Elahi was extremely kind and gentle with my dog and very thorough in his examination of him. he took the time to answer all my questions. I could not be more happy with him. I believe the vet tech that helped us was Derek, he too was extremely nice, friendly and welcoming. This clinic is a minimum 30 minute drive for me, but absolutely worth it. I highly recommend Dr Elahi and this facility. read more

Horrible facility. I don't recommend this place one bit. If I could give this facility negative stars I would. I brought my dog here for cyst and lumps around his body. They tested and charged me an arm and a leg to say everything is fine. And he passed away a month later. Also if you need your pets medical records they won't just give it to you because you requested it like other vets do. It's like they are trying to hide something. They need to get approval from the doctor to give you your own pets medical records. Even If your dog is sick and trying to see another doctor. They take hours just to send your pet's history over. I was waiting in the emergency room and the doctor kept asking me to send my pet's history over and I was getting so much anxiety waiting for this place just to email my dogs visit history over. I am incredibly thankful to have a vet like Dr. Nikki. She was so supportive and patient with me during the end of my pup Dexter's life. Dr. Nikki made time for me, answered all my questions and provided support through the difficult decision to put him down. Today I brought my new puppy in for her first appointment and I was happy to see her again. Dr. Nikki truly cares about her patients and takes time to explain all aspects of pet care. All the staff here are welcoming and friendly and I will continue bringing my pets here because I trust them 100%. read more
