Been here multiple times because we loved it so much! This has been the most fun I've ever had doing an art class. Jen is great and the animals are so dang cute! I HIGHLY recommend joining for a class!!

Craft time with Farmer Jen!

Wow! We just had my daughter's seventh birthday at the Animal Art Farm and it was amazing! We had our family there, grandma and grandpa, and one friend and her mother. We did a birdhouse craft which Farmer Jen lead us through - giving us encouragement all the way through. Supplies are given individually, our temperatures checked at the door and plenty of access to hand sanitizer. There are about 21 goats on the property, a few alpacas, lots of chickens, ducks, a bunny, a horse, bearded dragon and I'm sure more I didn't see. Farmer Jen was very responsive setting up our private party details, and warm and friendly with the kids even though they were running around a bit excited from the animals. Highly recommend this wonderful establishment for your private party or to just visit on the weekend for a craft project and some animal time. We will be back! Thank you Farmer Jen!

Beautiful animals! They seem to be very well cared for and are happy and tame around people. I would use them again and again.

When my production company needed a variety of animals, I looked no further than Jen Van Deren and her Pony Up!

This farm even had trampolines and a swing set which brought out my inner child. I loved how we could really take our time and just hang out. I have been short-staffed, so I wasn't able to take time off but w/ my team slowly getting back one by one, I knew I needed some time w/ myself doing what brings me the most joy. Growing up we had dogs and cats. Now I have 8 cats and I feed a small stray population (all fixed) in me neighborhood. But the more I work inside the semiconductor industry, the more I want to get away from the noise, the people, and be w/ the animals. When animals are hungry, they eat. When animals are tired, they sleep. When there are conflicts, they fight. They have no hidden agenda. They will love you unconditionally no matter what you bring to the table. Booking the reservation was easy. You pay half of it first to secure the timeslot. At the time of your reservation, you will be asked to pay the remaining balance. Paying cash will give you 10% off. You can bring children and even your dogs! They have a small area for kids to play. You can bring fruits/vegetables or purchase food for $10. All of their animals (cows, chickens, alpacas, goats, rabbits, and dogs) are secured. You can feed them, take selfies w/ them, and pet them but you cannot be inside the enclosures. The cats are healthy and friendly, they roam the property. There wasn't a single area I saw that wasn't maintained. Every animal and every enclosure were clean and well taken care of. Jasmine and Andrew were personable, friendly, and you can see how much love and patience they radiate. I cannot wait to head back. This time I will bring Gavin. From that day on, I decided to stop consuming lamb, goat, and a day after turkey. i am not trying to be vegan or a vegetarian but I wanted to reduce my carbon footprint what w/ all the AI data centers and the artic no longer being protected, I just feel it's my duty to do my part in helping preserve this planet not just for my kids, but for all living beings on this planet - mainly the animals.

Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park - Fall things

Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park

(1.2k reviews)

For years, based on the promotional photos I saw, I avoided the Gilroy Gardens (GG) family theme…read morepark. I thought it would be tacky and hyper-commercialized. Curiosity, together with my wife's desire to see the place, finally got the better of me--and I discovered that I had been wrong. GG in my opinion manages to strike the best balance that any such theme park probably can in terms of appealing to the masses while at the same time avoiding the trap of being tacky or hyper-commercialized. The varied rides and exhibits are pleasant and well-maintained. Some are even quite artistic (like the totem poles, illustrated in the image attached here) and educational (like the ecologically oriented Green Barn). If you're already familiar with GG, you don't need me to tell you about it. If you're not, here are a few tips--which might not be obvious to the uninitiated--that might help you better enjoy it: * The lines for the rides can be very long at times. You might end up waiting for an hour before it's your turn. Best to be prepared for that and plan it into your itinerary. * We noticed a small number of people who avoided the lines for all rides, being let in through the back gate/exit. When we asked about this at the Welcome Center, we learned that GG sells yellow wristbands that allow people to skip the long lines and enter through the "back door" (exit). They cost something like $85 per person for the year or about $30 per visit, in addition to the membership fee. * Even with those wristbands, you'll need more than one visit to see and do everything here. Rushing around a lot will spoil the fun. * The food everywhere, as far as we could tell, is pretty bad. You'll be ahead of the game if you pack your own, which will also avoid your waiting in another line. * The big secret, so to speak, of GG is "hidden" in plain sight--in the second word of the name itself, "Gardens." Most visitors are so preoccupied with going on the rides that they miss out on the natural beauty of the gardens. We found Camellia Garden and Claudia's Garden, in particular, to be like sheltered oases of calm and natural beauty within the hustle and bustle of the park. In our opinion, the three most obvious ways in which GG could be improved are as follows: 1. Improve the quality of the food that's offered. With all the traffic the park gets, those concession stands must be worth a small fortune. Either get them to do better or replace them with businesses that will. 2. Design a more user-friendly map. Those who already know their way around don't need a map but for those who don't, the existing map is not sufficiently clear (hint: it probably needs to be larger). 3. Do a better job of training the staff, in terms of both knowledgeability and attitude. Some are quite good (a special shout out to Nina at the Welcome Center and Sean at the Garlic Twirl ride: they exuded both warmth and professionalism) but others, who shall remain nameless, need more training. Minus one star for those deficiencies, as well as for not making it sufficiently clear at the time of the 2026 premium membership purchase that the bring-a-friend tickets that came with the membership had to be picked up almost immediately or they would not be available.

Review update for the start of 2026 season:…read more I expected the park to be refreshed and in top top shape for the start of the season. They just opened for the season! Unfortunately, I didn't find that was the case. We went during spring break on a weekday, and found it was more packed than usual. With that, it's no surprise considering local schools were on break. What was surprising to me was how dirty some of the rides (the caterpillar is an example) were. I feel like all of the attractions need a good pressure washing and clean up before busy season starts. We were also surprised to learn that they're now a cashless park. I'm not sure when they stopped accepting cash ( I usually use a card ) but wanted to highlight it for visitors to plan accordingly! Will be updating this review later into the season. Fingers crossed they just haven't checked some of the cleaning off the to do list yet!

The bad: -Noise. The "baaa"-ing was one thing, but the guard dogs were pretty brutal through the night. We had some coyotes hanging around so there was lots of barking. The first time I called she was pleasant and helpful, it was on the 3 other occasions (I left a voice mail- she called me back) that led me to believe that she may not be the best to work with. She failed to recognize me after calling and leaving my information on four different occasions, and insisted on speaking to me like an idiot, or a child (I'd elaborate but this is already going to a long review). When we first spoke, she said there was a possibility she could waive the traveling fee of $75 because she'd be in the area, which was nice even though I was fine with paying it either way. Around the third time of speaking with her she said the charge would be a nonnegotiable $200 and that she won't be in the area at all. I don't know if she's forgetful or just disorganized. She told me she'd write down my information as a side note and sounded like I was crazy for saying "we've spoken before on several occasions." I wish good luck to anyone who wants to hire this organization for their party, seems like if you're not planning on paying thousands of dollars on her your business isn't wanted. I was so appalled at the way this woman did business that THIS is why I got a yelp account.
