My wife and I both use Angwin Dental for all our dental needs, and have for many years. We find the staff to be attentive and excellent, with cleanings, scheduling, etc. Dr. Vandenhoven has a calm and engaging "chairside" manner, and when he fixes something, it tends to stay fixed. He also does the best shots (numbing) of any dentist I've ever used. I am needle phobic, and I don't dread the rare occasions when I need to be numbed, because he does such a painless job. Just completely screwed me over on a crown that needed some help from the lab. Didn't listen, didn't work with the lab, didn't double check or fix the work. The staff is super friendly, very accommodating, and very experienced in what they do. They are very willing to wait and work with insurance to make sure that everything is taken care of. Dr V is one of the best dentists I have ever been to. He is very gentle and literally numbs your mouth before he gives you the novocaine. He is very kind and explains everything as he is doing it. Makes sure you know what's going on. My hygienist was also very great. Made a bit of conversation as she cleaned my teeth. She was great. Dr. VandenHoven is the ABSOLUTE BEST!! Let's not forget his excellent staff as well. I have never ever liked going to the dentist (and for that I've got a lot of tooth issues) and I honestly have to say that I am now excited to go see the dentist! Everything about his technique is amazing, he is very gentle, painless, he has a great personality has a a very calming voice and answers all your questions very thoroughly. Woke up one morning with a chip on one of my veneers, and as a last minuet referral I went to see Dr. Williams...his staff was very accommodating and understanding of my dilemma, and scheduled me the same day! Dr. Williams was able to take care of my dental drama that very day without needing a complete replacement and was very patient with with me (anxious new patient). All my thanks to Dr. VandenHoven for being especially careful to make certain I felt NO pain during some extended work I had done recently. He took an extended amount of time to make certain I was comfortable, checking in throughout the process to ensure all was good. He is that wonderful type of dentist who is uber-attentive and caring to his patients -- and does beautiful, functional and lasting dental work! I saw a hatchet job review on here about one of the hygienists. My husband and I have been going to this practice for more than a decade, with cleanings twice a year, every year. The hygienists at this practice are VERY experienced and conscientious. For what it's worth, I'm not believing the angry chipped tooth story. Love this entire team. I went to this dentist and his hygienist chipped my tooth during a cleaning. I called to let them know they said come back in and we will fix it. There was no apology or anything. They fixed the tooth then sent me a bill for the damage their hygienist did. Very disappointed and feel they are dishonest to charge me and my insurance. I will never use them again! read more

I've been going here for quite some time, as they are in my network, which is somewhat limited, and they're closer than most others who are in network. The first or second visit, there was some sort of misunderstanding about the charges which I only vaguely recall being very pissed about. I was going through a difficult time in life, so was already on edge. I rather threw a hissy about the issue I was upset with, and Dr. Vandenhoven went ahead and did as I requested and ate the bill. I recall thinking it was the totally right thing for him to do, as I felt it was his office who messed it up. The people in the office continued to be really nice to me, despite my having been a b--ch, and many was the time I was very very late to my appointments, and they fit me in anyway because I have to drive 50 minutes to get there. The cleanings I couldn't call feeling the cleanest I'd ever gotten over several decades in two states with lots of different hygienists, but they were good enough, and better than lots, and they've kept my soft teeth in pretty good shape. There were a couple of times when Dr. had to send me to a specialist because he couldn't quite figure out the source of my pain or discomfort, as there were a couple of possible culprits, but I think it's good when one knows his limits. Once, not so long ago, he referred me to an endodontist, whom I asked to numb the tooth that I thought was the most likely culprit, as a means of diagnosing; absence of pain would mean we picked the correct tooth. The specialist did as I requested, I remember proposing that strategy to Dr. Vandenhoven, and he wouldn't do it, but, as I said, it's probably a good thing when a person knows he's out of his depth. I think Dr. is a very fair person, as I read about the lady with the chipped tooth, I can imagine that happening, but I'll bet you dollars to donuts that if she had expressed really strongly how she felt about it, Dr. Vandenhoven would've taken some responsibility for it, one way or another. They aren't high-brow, but I think Vandenhoven is a fair man and a decent person, and a decent dentist for the basic fillings and such, and one could do a real lot worse. I haven't been there in a few months because Blue Shield dropped me in January without ever sending me a notice. I've just happened onto Yelp now because I'm only just finding the time to re-enroll in some kind of coverage, and I'm happy to see that Angwin Dental is a preferred provider on my new plan. read more
