This salon is definitely not for everyone, and that is a compliment. Dave is the best for punk, alternative, rock styles and honestly you need to let him be creative because he makes hairstyling an art. I'm so happy with my hair, it came out amazing and it was worth the time he took on it for sure. And Dave himself is awesome, but again that comes from my personal preference in humans. David's cut and coloring skills are second to none. He is the best hair stylist I've found in my 46 years. Wish I found him years ago. He works with you intimately to understand exactly what you're looking for. He will make suggestions or recommendations (take them, he knows what he's doing) but he will ultimately leave it up to you. I've been to him five times now and have never been disappointed. My most recent cut and color is growing in beautifully and, even eight weeks later, I am continuing to get compliments. And bonus, his prices beat everyone else. The studio is definitely non-traditional: red walls, hard rock theme, hard rock on the speakers, and the coolest cat in the world who will curl up on your lap during your cut... It's a chill and fun environment. David himself is a whirlwind of a man, brimming with energy and personality and passion. He works fast and furious - the quintessential artist. And what he does IS indeed art. He'll ask you all about your life and share about his. He makes you feel like family. Another amazing appointment with Dave! I go in with no idea what I want and ALWAYS walk out feeling like a million dollars. He blends colors like an artist and my hair has depth and drama and looks absolutely fantastic. Awesome place! Dave makes everyone feel welcome, and his staff do a great job. It is a much more friendly atmosphere than your normal salon, which I loved. They did a great job with my hair each time I've been - Dave even offered, without my prompting, to redo my hair the first time because it didn't come out as bright as he felt it should have. They hold themselves to a very high standard and are incredibly customer-centric! Groupon was having some crazy good deals so I was tempted into buying some hair services. I normally cut my own hair when it's long because I'm cheap.. so I have not gone to a salon in the past 5 years. However, I wanted to go really short and there was no way I could do that myself. After much research, I went with The Angry Chair because it seemed much more chill than other salons and that they really wanted to understand what the customer wanted. Plus, I was hoping to go a little edgier than overly clean cut and they give off that vibe. It was easy to set up the appointment. Just a quick phone call to talk dates and times. When I arrived, there were a couple of people being worked on and the salon cat was oh-so handsome and friendly. There's no "front desk" person per se. One of the stylists asked me what time I had an appointment and who it was with but I didn't know. She said we'd figure it out. That was a little weird to me, but I guess they're pretty flexible? I had to wait for about 20 minutes but it looked like they were dealing with a difficult customer. Athina took me after she was done with the difficult customer. She asked me what I wanted and I showed her a couple photos. I really liked that she gave me her opinion - "yes, short will be cute on you" - "no, I think you should go shorter" - "one layer would be best". She really worked with me to give me loads of options on colors and types of highlights (a first for me). The process was generally easy, there was enough easy conversation and I enjoyed her interaction with Dave (the owner). The only constructive feedback I have is that I wish I knew more about the process as it was going on. I'm a color newbie so I wish the next step was more clear like "we're going to bleach your hair for about 45 minutes, I'll check it every 15 minutes." Sometimes it just felt like Athina walked away and I wasn't quite sure if I could get up, walk, or put my glasses on. I love the cut and she did a fantastic job on the highlights - great blending so it can grow out without being weird. The purple she put in was spot on with what I wanted - dark enough that it blends into my hair really well so it looks appropriate in my "professional workplace" but just enough fun to feel like I made an "edgy" change. Now I need to have someone who actually knows what their doing fix it. The owner cut my hair and seemed to have absolutely no idea what he was doing. I wanted to dye my hair for the first time but have it professionally done. I saw that The Angry Chair has great reviews so I quickly scheduled an appointment. My stylist was late to the appointment, the salon wasn't clean (hair clumps on the ground), when washing my hair there was product still left in it when I went home, the dye job was patchy AF, the stylist got bleach everywhere including my clothes, and to top it all off, they sent me home with my hair pretty wet. Let's just say I was sobbing by the time I got home. Bc of the bad dye job they offered me to come back and it was mostly fixed the next day, some patches are still weird if I wear my hair up. All in all, very disappointed in what was done to my hair, and a bad experience in totally. Idk why people like this place because it definitely wasn't for me and I think they need to get their license revoked, or go get better training. I've been going here for about four years now, and I won't go anywhere else now. Gabby has been cutting my hair since my very first visit to The Angry Chair, and I'm always extremely happy with her work. I've had a pretty decent variety of hairstyles since coming here, and I can always count on getting exactly what I want. She listens, takes her time, and I always leave incredibly happy with the results (which was never the case when I went to other places). I've since moved to New York City, but I still get my hair cut at The Angry Chair when I'm home visiting family. I don't trust anyone else to do such a great job-- not even in the city! Dave was amazing, and I was able to send him pictures of what I was thinking to inspire the look. The awesome thing about Dave is that he doesn't ask what cut you want... He wants to know what vibe you want to have! I've never done anything exciting with my hair, so this was a huge deal for me. The total time it took to get my hair from medium brown to white (!) to pink was EIGHT HOURS and Dave never once flagged or was inattentive! Full disclosure -- I came in from a Groupon. From the get go, I was impressed. The place is very comfortable, with a rock n roll flair, comfy couches to sit on. No weird smell, and no super long wait for the stylist to see me. Once I was seated my stylist took the time to listen to me, and engage me conversation so I could figure out exactly what I wanted with my cut and highlights. She was also very helpful in answering my questions about styling my hair on my own, tools, and techniques. I have already booked my second appointment and I cannot wait to go back. Not only did I drive an hour and half up there, they never called me ahead to tell me they were running behind. When I got there, I checked in (they didn't have a receptionist), still didn't tell me they were running behind, they avoided it and said "uhhh it will be a few minutes". The smell was unbearable and it took only a second to get a headache from my brain cells dying on the inside from the toxic smell. They had no air flow or windows open. And they didn't acknowledge how late they were. The man clearly knew I was about to I walked out and still didn't say anything. Didn't get a call until 1pm... so they were behind by half an hour?!? It's so unprofessional to not let a client know this and still not tell them when they got there. The girl who I was suppose to see was in be beginning process of the girls hair... I've been coming to see Dave for close to 7 years. No matter if I'm gettting my beard trimmed or dyed or my hair cut he always does me right. He listens to what I'm hoping for in a look and achieves it or better every time.
